Speaking on the occasion, senior Congress leader Jai Ram Ramesh said that Rahulw as supposed to walk 16 kms today but he could walk only 4 kms due to breach of security. He said that administration must ensure proper security for the Bharat Jodo Yatra in the days ahead especially when it reaches Srinagar.

He said due to the wrong policies of BJP and RSS, India as a nation is falling apart and the Yatra is an effort to bring the folks together. Ramesh said that BJY has nothing to do with the election politics as of now. “We keep on stating that there are two ways: one that of BJP and RSS and another that of Congress which is the Gandhian way.”

‘Truth always comes out’: Rahul Gandhi on BBC documentary ban

    [ad_1]

Jammu: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday slammed the Centre over the BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that banning the Press cannot “suppress” the truth from coming out.

Gandhi’s remarks came after the Centre banned the BBC documentary on PM Modi describing it as a ‘propaganda piece’ designed to push a discredited narrative.

“The truth always comes out. No amount of banning the Press and using institutions like ED and CBI against people can suppress the truth from coming out,” Gandhi said.

Last week, India denounced the controversial BBC documentary series on Prime Minister Modi.

“We think this is a propaganda piece designed to push a particular discredited narrative. The bias, lack of objectivity, and frankly continuing colonial mindset are blatantly visible,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said during a weekly media briefing on January 19.

The MEA spokesperson added that the documentary is a reflection of individuals who are peddling this narrative again.
Meanwhile, in a strong response to the BBC documentary on Saturday, more than 300 eminent Indians, including retired judges, bureaucrats, and armed forces veterans signed a statement slamming the British national broadcaster for showing “unrelenting prejudice” towards India and its leader.

Earlier today, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju made a scathing attack apparently on a BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi which has sparked controversy since its release, and said some people have still not gotten over their “colonial intoxication” and for them “whites” are still their “rulers”.

“For some people, the white rulers are still the masters whose decision on India is final and not the decision of the Supreme Court of India or the will of the people of India,” Rijiju tweeted in Hindi tagging his earlier tweet on the minority in the country, who he claimed were moving forward with positivity.

BJY Largely Succeeded In Fighting Narrative Of Hatred In Country: Rahul Gandhi

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR:  Congress leader and Member Parliament Rahul Gandhi Tuesday said that Bharat Jodo Yatra (BJY) has largely succeeded to fight against the narrative of hatred spread across the country and bring the folks together yet again.

“Let me tell you that we have been able to bring the people across the country together yet again through BJY. There were a lot of lessons for us in the Yatra and we have learnt a lot after meeting people of various shades during our journey,” news agency KNO quoted Rahul as having said.

He said that there is no scope for hatred in the country as Congress believes in spreading the message of love. “Our endeavour is to open the shops of love across J&K that has been made a scapegoat of politics,” Rahul said. “Through BJY we have largely been able to fight the disastrous narrative of hatred spread by the BJP in the country.”

He said that primary focus of Congress is to get Statehood and Assembly restored in J&K. Asked if BJY was apolitical, why he was continuously targeting BJP, Rahul said that since Congress is the grand old political party, there will surely be a bit of politics in his speeches during the Yatra. “When KPs, farmers and unemployed youth would meet me during the Yatra and hope that I will definitely rake up their issues, there would obviously be a problem for me if I don’t talk about them,” the Congress leader said. He said there was not even a tinge of hatred for anybody including PM Narendera Modi. “I am not afraid of anybody so why should I have hatred for anyone,” he asid.

He said J&K youth are suffering from depression and discomfort. “We are here to listen to them and understand their issue,” he said, adding that media too has been suppressed to an extent as if Yatra is not happening at all.

To a query about Lal Singh, Rahul said that Singh supported Yatra and Congress appreciates that. “As far as Ghulam Nabi Azad, 90 per cent of his supporters and party men were on our stage. I would like to tender my apology if we have hurt Azad or Lal Singh,” Rahul said. On there are reports that crores are being spent for his BJY, Rahul said that to tarnish his image, BJP and RSS spent thousands of crores and yet didn’t succeed. “I want to tell BJP that money can’t burry the truth which has a nasty habit of come out. BJP has started to understand this reality gradually,” he said. Pertinently, Rahul led BJY will enter Srinagar on January 30.

In Jammu, Rahul Gandhi promises restoration of J&K’s statehood

    [ad_1]

Jammu, Jan 23: On the 129th day of Bharat Jodo Yatra, Congress leader and Member Parliament Rahul Gandhi Monday said that demand for statehood is Jammu and Kashmir’s biggest issue and the Congress party will use “full power” to get it restored.

“I have covered more than 3000 kilometers. During the yatra in Jammu and Kashmir, I have met a cross section of people from the last few days and let me tell you that during my conversation with them, I was informed that statehood for J&K is the biggest issue along with the highest level of unemployment in the country,” Rahul said, addressing a gathering at Satwari Chowk in Jammu, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). He told the gathering that Congress party will fully support “you and your statehood demand.”

“To restore the statehood, we (Congress) will use our full power to get back the statehood as soon as possible,” Rahul said. “Statehood is your (people of J&K) biggest issue. There is no big issue as big as statehood. Your right has been snatched. Cross section of people from J&K during this yatra raised their concerns.”

Rahul said: “People told me, which I am sharing with you, that their voices are not being heard by the administration. Earlier native people have say in administration and trader but now entire trade is being run by outsiders and people of J&K watch them sitting haplessly.”

He further said that Jammu and Kashmir has the highest level of unemployment in the country.

“Youngsters aspire to become engineers, doctors and lawyers but they find they cannot because of lack of opportunities,” he said.

    On unemployment:

Youth of the country looked towards the Army for serving the nation as well a great source of employment but BJP came with Agniveer trying to destroy “this intuition.”

He said: “People need at least 7-8 years to learn and expertise in any trade or skill. It also applies to the army too, but BJP people don’t understand the ethos of the army.”

Rahul said: “Training of soldiers is a lifelong process but they (BJP) thinks that in six months they will train a soldier. Agniveer would weaken the forces but unfortunately BJP doesn’t understand this.”

He said the doors of recruitment in the army are almost closed, earlier for 15 years of service, the country assured soldiers for good rehabilitation with pension and other benefits but now for four year service with no provision of pension is there for Agniveers.

Rahul further said that the government is working for 2-3 big industrialists and trying to destroy Small and Medium Scale Business, which is the backbone of a country’s economic growth.

“Nation’s wealth is going to 3-4 big business units and leftover citizens are experiencing the brunt of unemployment and inflation,” he said, “The wrong implementation of GST, demonetization is worsening the condition of small scale traders”.

He said that, “Earlier petrol price was around Rs 50 but now it touching Rs 100, similar to a gas cylinder and these extra bucks are going to 2-3 big industrialists.”

    On Kashmir Pandits

Rahul Gandhi said that Pandits are facing injustice at the hands of the government and asked Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to apologise to the community for telling the prime minister’s package employees that they should not seek alms.

He said that a Kashmiri Pandit delegation called on him during his Bharat Jodo Yatra in Samba district earlier in the day and briefed him about their various issues including “targeted killings” by terrorists and the resultant protest by those employed under the prime minister’s package.

“Injustice is being meted to Kashmir Pandits by this government…this morning, a delegation of Kashmiri Pandits met me and briefed me about their issues. I was surprised to know that their delegation was told by the lieutenant governor that they should not seek alms.”

Rahul said he wanted to tell the lieutenant governor that they are not demanding alms but are seeking their rights. “You (LG) should seek forgiveness from them (Pandits).”

Earlier, Rahul said that yatra has been started from Kanyakumari and “we learned a lot during this period. Every state teaches us a lot and it.”

“We tried to raise issues of demonization, wrong GST, farmer bills, China’s incursion, unemployment in the parliament but we were not allowed and our mikes were turned off, it’s now only us but media should also contribute in protecting democracy,” he said, adding, “I wish in-stead of talking about bollywood stars they should raise issues of unemployment, price rise etc, which is affecting the poor population of nation.”—(KNO)

PDP delegation joins Rahul Gandhi in BJY in Jammu; highlights public issues

    [ad_1]

Jammu: A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) delegation on Monday joined Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Yatra here and discussed various issues including the government’s eviction drive as well as demands of Kashmiri Pandit employees with him, a party leader said.

The PDP delegation, comprising several senior leaders, joined the foot march at Kunjwani bypass, shortly after the marchers led by Gandhi entered Jammu from adjoining Samba district in the afternoon, the leader said.

PDP’s provincial president, youth wing, Pervez Waffa and additional general secretary Rajinder Manhas walked alongside Gandhi towards Satwari chowk for 15 minutes and briefed him about various issues concerning the common people, he said.

He said they informed Gandhi about the eviction drive launched by the J-K administration to “snatch” the land from the people despite the fact that they are holding the property for generations.

The delegation also informed the Congress leader about the Prime Minister package Kashmiri pandit employees and Dogra employees who have been on strike in Jammu for the past over six months, seeking their relocation outside Kashmir following targeted killings.

Growing unemployment in J-K, inflation and economic distress also came up for discussion during the interaction, the PDP said leader.

Congress Will Use All Its Might To Restore J&K’s Statehood: Rahul Gandhi

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday said his party will put all its force into the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s (J&K) statehood.

“There is no bigger issue than your statehood. Your right has been snatched by the Centre and Congress will use all its might to restore it,” said Gandhi while addressing a gathering in the Satwari area of Jammu.

Jammu and Kashmir lost its statehood on August 5, 2019, when the Centre scrapped its special status under Article 370 of the Constitution and split the state into two Union Territories.

Gandhi also accused the government of doing injustice to Kashmiri Pandits in the Union Territory and asked Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to apologise to the community for alms remarks.

“Today I met a delegation of Kashmiri Pandits who briefed me about various issues. They told me that when they went to meet LG, they were told not to seek alms. LG must realise, these people are seeking their rights, and apologise to the community,” Gandhi stated.

Many Kashmiri Pandit employees working under the prime minister’s package announced in 2008 are on strike in Jammu, demanding their relocation out of the Valley against the backdrop of targeted killings.

The former Congress president also said that during his Yatra in Jammu region, he met many people who told him that outsiders are being benefited by the government and locals have been deprived.

“Jammu and Kashmir is facing the highest percentage of unemployment in India. Educated people don’t have employment opportunities. Earlier, they had the option of joining the Indian Army, but now the BJP has brought the Agniveer scheme,” said Rahul Gandhi.

He said that the Agniveer scheme is weakening the Indian Army and Army personnel are against it.

“The unemployment is rising because the government is working only to benefit 2-3 industrialists,” he alleged.

On January 23, Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra started from Samba district’s Vijaypur and reached Jammu district in the afternoon where he was received by senior party leaders.

The Bharat Jodo Yatra will culminate in the Valley on January 30 with a mega public rally.
