    SRINAGAR: Locals in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday afternoon timely intervened to prevent a girl from committing suicide.

    Locals of the area said that a girl was spotted by locals attempting to jump into the river Jhelum at cement-bridge in Baramulla. On noticing her doubtful movements, locals rushed towards her and foiled her attempt to jump into the water body.

    Confirming it, a police officer said that they are looking to ascertain under what circumstances the girl tried to end her life. (GNS)

    SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has taken up the matter of a Kashmiri student with Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinay Saxenas’ office and requested them to look into the matter.

    A student from Kashmir, who is pursuing a medical degree from a Private institution namely Holy Family college of Nursing in New Delhi, was attacked by auto driver with sharp object near NFC Delhi.

    As per a statement issued to the news agency KNO, National Convener of Association, Nasir Khuehami took up the matter with Rakesh Ranjan, Media Advisor to Delhi Lieutenant Governor and Secretary to Lieutenant Governor Abhijeet Rai and urged them to intervene in this matter & take cognizance of such a gory incident that happened near New Friends Colony in New Delhi.

    The association also demanded immediate action against the culprit.

    They informed Khuehami that Lieutenant Governors’ Office will look into the matter immediately and will direct the concerned DCP to take strict and immediate action against the accused Auto driver.

    Khuehami also spoke to DCP South East Rajesh Deo and urged him to take strict action against the accused.

    The DCP informed him that the matter is being dealt with as per the law.

    As per the statement, the student hired an auto rickshaw from her residence to the NFC market. “After reaching CC Market NFC, an altercation took place between her and auto driver over issue of fare. The auto driver infuriated and attacked her with a sharp object and she received injuries at her lower abdomen at right side. FIR 96/23 has been registered under the Indian penal code sections 324/506 at Police Station NFC New Delhi and further investigation is underway. Efforts are being made to nab the auto driver,” Khuehami added while quoting DCP South East.

    Association North India Vice President Sheikh Azhar expressed deep concern over the incident and demanded swift action from the Delhi Police to ensure justice to the victim.

    The J&K Students Association has called for the formation of a special task force to deal with such incidents and provide a sense of security to the students.

    The association has also appealed to civil society to come forward and condemn such acts of violence against Kashmiri students.

    The incident highlights the need for better sensitization and awareness among people about the diversity of the country and the need for a more inclusive society. It is important to create an environment where people from all parts of the country feel safe and secure. This incident serves as a reminder of the need for better safety measures and awareness of diversity in our society, Azhar added.

    Meanwhile, the association urged Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinay Saxena to take appropriate measures for instilling a sense of security among the students studying in the NCT and ensured that no student is harmed or harassed.

    The association hoped that, Delhi Police will take swift action to nab the culprit and ensure justice to the victim—(KNO)

    Ramban Landslide: One dead, Several Injured

    SRINAGAR: One person died and six others were injured after a massive landslide occurred on Srinagar-Jammu highway near Seri area of Ramban district on Tuesday, police said.

    ‘Huge slide at Seri. Rescue operation underway. 7 injured so far. More might be trapped. Being shifted to District Hospital. NH closed for traffic,” said SSP Traffic NH, Mohita Sharma on Twitter.

    In the incident one person died while six others were injured and they were being shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment., official said.

    The deceased has been identified as Surjeet Singh son of Sher Singh of Sumber.

    Meanwhile, the highway has been closed for traffic as a precautionary measure.

    SRINAGAR: In a virtual address on Tuesday, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha addressed the 5th Jan Aushadhi Diwas celebrations at GMC Jammu, under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana.

    During his speech, he praised the stakeholders and urged for collective efforts to promote the use of generic medicines and expand the reach of the program to every part of Jammu and Kashmir UT.

    During his address, the Lt Governor emphasized that the scheme not only offers affordable and quality generic medicines to the public, but also provides an opportunity for self-employment to women and youth. He also highlighted the healthcare reforms implemented to ensure accessible and affordable healthcare for the people of Jammu Kashmir. The Lt Governor credited PM Narendra Modi for guiding the strengthening of the health sector to prioritize citizen’s well-being. Additionally, he mentioned that around 350 modern health infrastructure projects are underway in the UT to promote a resilient health system and strong socio-economic growth.

    “Along with conventional economic metrics like GDP, we should also focus on the Gross Health & Happiness of people. A healthy and happy society can enable economic benefits and all-around development.” Lt Governor said.

    He said affordable medicines from Jan Aushadhi Kendras have resulted in saving of huge sums for families across the country. Approximately 32,000 patients are visiting 227 Kendras every day in J&K UT, the Lt Governor said.

    “We endeavor to start 75 Jan Aushadhi Kendras in every district to mark Amrit Kaal”, the Lt Governor noted.

    Week-long events have been organized across J&K to commemorate the Jan Aushadhi Diwas.

    Jan Aushadhi Kendra and other stakeholders were felicitated for their contribution to promoting generic medicines and menstrual health & hygiene.

    Sh. Bhupinder Kumar, Administrative Secretary, Health and Medical Education Department; Dr. Shashi Sudan Sharma, Principal, GMC Jammu; Nodal Officer of PMBJP and other senior officials were present on the occasion.

    SRINAGAR:  At least seven persons, two of whom are children, have been rescued after an alto car they were travelling came under a major landslide in Seeri area in Ramban.

    Quoting an official, news agency GNS reported  that soon after the incident a major rescue was launched at the site, which led to the timely rescue of seven car occupants.

    The injured persons, among whom two are minors, are being taken to a nearby health facility for immediate treatment.

    A JCB operator, who happened to be around the site, had a narrow escape even as the machine he was on got damaged by the landslide, the official said.

    Meanwhile, it has been learnt that the affected road remains closed for all sorts of vehicular traffic due to amassing of huge mounds of debris.

    SRINAGAR: The commuters are all set to have a safe journey along Srinagar-Jammu highway by the end of March month as the authorities here have said that the two important tunnels and a bridge in Ramban district of Jammu region will be made functional this month.

    Jammu-Srinagar national highway is the only all-weather road linking Kashmir with the rest of the country.

    Quoting officials, news agency KNO reported that work on several projects in Ramban district is in progress.

    “800-metre-long T5 tunnel on Panthyal stretch of the highway is set to be thrown open by March 15 while Jaiswal bridge on Udhampur-Ramban section to be made operational by March 20 and Kunfer tunnel is also expected to be completed by March 31, besides double lane of Ramban flyover and Banihal bypass to be completed by April 15 this year,” they said.

    Two tunnels, having a total length of 1,680 meters, would put an end to the ‘phantom of shooting stones’ and traffic disruptions along the stretch, officials said.

    The twin tunnels will not only reduce the travel time of commuters, but will also completely bypass the difficult landslides and shooting stone prone areas along the stretch, officials said.

    Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, Mussarat Islam said all the projects on Jammu Srinagar national highway will be completed by stipulated time frame. “Work on the 800-meter T-5 Tunnel to bypass Panthyal stretch, which is vulnerable to shooting stones on highway, has been accelerated so that it becomes operational by March 15, 2023”, he said.

    Mussarat said work is also in progress for double laning of Ramban flyover and Banihal bypass which will be completed by April 15 this year. After the competition of these projects, people travelling on Jammu-Srinagar highway would be able have a safe journey, he added.

    SRINAGAR: A massive fire broke out in a commercial cum residential building in Sopore village in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday afternoon.

    An official said that the fire erupted this afternoon in a commercial cum residential building of Abdul Majeed Banday at Dangerpora village, following which fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

    After hectic efforts by locals and the fire service department, the fire was put under control and prevented from spreading, as the area is congested, the official added.

    The cause of the fire was not known immediately, but is said to be a short circuit. (GNS)

    SRINAGAR: Issuing two separate orders, Government on Monday promoted 21 Inspectors of Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) as Deputy Superintendents of Police, with immediate effect.

    According to first government Order No.118, Government has accorded sanction to the promotion of five Inspectors (Steno) as Deputy Superintendents of Police (Steno)-Private Secretary, Level -8.

    The officers that have been promoted are Mohammad Latief, Bilal Ahmad Ganaie, Mushtaq Ahmad, Trilok Singh and Girdhari Lal.

    As per second government Order No.119, 16 Inspectors (Ministerial) have been promoted as Deputy Superintendents of Police (Ministerial)-Administrative officer, Level-8. They are Nassrullah Khan, Neeru Bakshi, Iqbal Singh, Ajay Kumar Sharma, Rakesh Sharma, Manzoor Ahmed, Fayaz Ahmad, Mubark Tamkeen, Ghulam Jeelani, Ashwani Kumar, Firdousa Mufti, Shakeel Ahmad, Mohammad Shafi, Samima Aijaz, Nazir Ahmed Yatoo and Nazir Ahmad Wani.
