    SRINAGAR: Under the banner of KanHERsations, Kashmir Angel Network on Wednesday hosted a special event at its corporate headquarters in Srinagar. The event, held to celebrate International Women’s Day, brought together young businesswomen to discuss the challenges they face in establishing their companies and share the experiences that inspired them to become entrepreneurs. The event was attended by various women entrepreneurs, including the founders of Eco Kash, Mountain Soaps, and Pride by Mariya, Sweet Frosting Box, Elite training and placement, among others.

    March 8th marks the global celebration of International Women’s Day, a crucial day to honour and recognize the contributions and accomplishments of women while advocating for gender equality. It offers an opportunity to raise awareness and encourage women’s entrepreneurship not only in Kashmir but also around the world. Celebrating the triumphs of women entrepreneurs and inspiring future generations to follow their entrepreneurial aspirations is of paramount importance. Recognition and support for women in business and entrepreneurship are particularly vital.

    Women entrepreneurs face unique challenges and barriers, such as access to funding and networks, and it’s important to provide them with the resources and support they need to succeed. Celebrating International Women’s Day is a great way to raise awareness of these issues and promote women’s entrepreneurship in Kashmir and beyond. It’s also a chance to highlight the successes of women entrepreneurs and to inspire future generations of women to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams. Despite the difficulties they faced, the young women business owners were brimming with enthusiasm and determination. They discussed their goals for their companies as well as the communities in which they live, and their tenacity in the face of challenges was genuinely motivational.

    Seeing how these young women are challenging the status quo and breaking down boundaries in their respective fields was inspiring for the audience members who attended the event.

    SRINAGAR: Days after the famous Bollywood duo Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhat landed in the world-famous ski resort of Gulmarg to shoot one of the movie’s songs, filmmakers of Tamil industry – Kollywood, reached south Kashmir’s Pahalgam to shoot for their upcoming action movie.

    People with the knowhow of things said that two famous super-stars of the Tamil film industry, Vijay Chandrasekhar and Trisha Krishnan are shooting in the health resort Pahalgam for their upcoming movie “Leo” – a gangster action film directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.

    One of the crew members talking exclusively to GNS confirmed the shooting of the movie and praised the people of Kashmir, terming them hard-working, hospitable, loveable, and helpful.

    He said we struggled a bit while shooting in minus 13-14 degrees, but it was people of this area who cooperated with us in making our shoot smooth and now it is working all fine for us.

    “Each early morning, they join us”, he said, adding they are hard workers and we are happy to work with them.

    Terming Kashmir as the best location for shooting, he said that filmmakers across India should switch to this beautiful place to shoot their movies, songs, and other work as this place has all the potential one needs in the industry.

    In a message to filmmakers, he said, “The union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, with its breathtaking beauty and an incredible landscape dotted with meadows, valleys, high altitude passes, dense forests, lakes, apple orchards, and snow-capped peaks, provides just the picture-perfect setting for shooting a film.”(GNS)

  • JK’s Fight Against Medical Waste: Govt Forms Monitoring Panels

    SRINAGAR:  The government on Wednesday constituted Union territory Level Committee and District Level Committees for monitoring the implementation of Bio-Medical Waste (BMW) Rules, 2016 in Jammu and Kashmir.

    The Union Territory Level Committee comprises Administrative Secretary, Health and Medical Education Department as Chairman and its members include the Director, Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing, J&K, Representative of Housing and Urban Development Department (not below the rank of Additional Secretary), Representative of DMRRR (not below the rank of Additional Secretary)and Secretary, J&K Pollution Control Board.

    “The Member Secretary, J&K Pollution Control Board shall act as Nodal agency for coordination and compliance,” reads the order, a copy of which lies with GNS, adding, “The Committee shall be free to co-opt any other experts/agency for its assistance and shall meet within two weeks in the first instance and thereafter once in a month.”

    Similarly, the district-level committee (s) will be headed by Deputy Commissioners concerned and members include the Principal, Government Medical College or other reputed Medical College in the area, Representative of SSP concerned, Chief Medical Officer and Regional Officer, J&K Pollution Control Board, the order reads. The Regional Officer, J&K Pollution Control Board shall act as the Nodal agency for coordination and compliance. The Committees, it said, shall be free to co-opt any other experts/agency for its assistance. The Committees shall meet within two weeks in the first instance and thereafter once in a fortnight initially till the situation improves and at longer intervals thereafter as may be found necessary, the order added.     SRINAGAR: Shab-e-Baraat (Night of Absolution) was observed across the Kashmir valley with devotees thronging the major mosques and shrines of the valley on Friday to observe the auspicious night of  fortune and forgiveness.

    In Kashmir, the largest congregation was held at Dargah Hazratbal shrine Srinagar were thousands of men and women prayed seeking forgiveness for their sins.

    Shab-e-Baraat is observed by Muslims on the inrtervening night of 14th and 15th Shaban-the eighth month of the Islamic calendar which falls ahead of the month of Ramadan.

    With the fall of evening, every corner of the valley especially the religious places were lit up with candles and mosques and shrines were reverberating with Quran recitations and night long prayers.

    The major congregrational prayers were offered at Hazratbal shrine, Chrar-e-Sharif, Dastgir Saheb’s shrine at Khanyar, Khankahi-e-Maula and Sarai Payeen.

    People visited graveyards for Fateh-Khani and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls.

    SRINAGAR: Former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah on Wednesday came out in support of the protesting JKSSB aspirants and condemned the use of excessive force against them.

    Taking to microblogging site Twitter, Omar Abdullah wrote, “I condemn, in the strongest possible terms, the use of force & lathi charge against students & JKSSRB aspirants. These youngsters were exercising their democratic right to protest against the recent decision to engage a blacklisted firm #Aptech by JKSSRB.”

    “What is the point of black listing a company if they are going to be awarded plum contracts. This contract is even more dangerous because it puts at risk the future of scores of aspirants who rely on JKSSB to conduct recruitment exams,” Omar said.

    Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the foundation day event of Apni Party at Sanat Nagar, President of the party, Altaf Bukhari urged LG Administration to intervene and take immediate action the infamous agencies involved in various scams on Jammu and Kashmir.

    “I request LG Sinha to look into the concerns of protesting aspirants on the occasion of holi and fill their lives with colour and scrap the contract with the infamous Aptech immediately,” Bukhari said.

    PDP Chief, Mehbooba Mufti while taking a dig at CBI, expressed her astonishment over CBI’s message asking people not to pay any bribe to government employees.

    “Amusing to receive a message from CBI to report bribes. A blacklisted company like APTECH is given contracts repeatedly to wreak the future of JK youth. Hope CBI takes note of the APTECH recruitment scam. Lets see how many heads roll.” Mehbooba wrote on her Twitter handle.

    Notably, scores of JKSSB aspirants assembled at Press Enclave to register their protest against the purported grant of contract to APTECH Ltd. to conduct various exams in Jammu and Kashmir.

    SRINAGAR:  Sabkat Malik, a teenage girl from Vijjhara area of Bandipora district is all set to represent India in Ju-Jitsu International Federation’s World Championship scheduled in Mongolia this year.

    Maintaining that she had to face difficulities to emerge out in this male dominted martial arts game, Sabkat said that she was interested in martial arts since her childhood but she faced many challenges in order to achieve her dream.

    “I came to know about Ju-Jitsu in my locality around 11 years ago and started learning it with an aim to become a champion in Ju-Jitsu,” she said, adding that choosing a male dominated game at an early age and then practicing with negligible infrastructure wasn’t an easy thing.

    “However, I remained determined and worked very hard to leap the ladder of success starting from district, followed by State, National and now International,” she said.

    “Playing at international level and to become a champion in Ju-Jitsu martial arts is aim of my life,” teenager said.

    She said that he has been practicing continuously to achieve her goal of representing India in Ju-Jitsu International Federation’s World Championship scheduled in Mongolia this year.

    Muzaffar Ahmad, coach of Sabkat while expressing happiness over her selection said that she is very much talented and will definitely prove her mettle whenever she will get opportunity.

    “I am very happy that her determination and hard work has paid off and has inspired other girls to take part in martial arts,” he said. (KNO)

    SRINAGAR: Scores of Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) job aspirants gathered in press enclave on Wednesday to protest against the purported grant of contract to APTECH Ltd. for conduct of various exams in the UT.

    The protesting aspirants asked LG administration to look into the matter of frequent paper leaks and scam occurring in Kashmir.

    “All blacklisted companies should be banned in Jammu and Kashmir, until action not is taken against these blacklisted companies, no student will sit for any competitive exams,” the protestors opined.

    The protesters pointed out that APTECH Ltd. has been involved in numerous scams in other parts of the country including in Rajasthan, Leh, Ambala, and others. “Many national papers have also highlighted these scams, nothing significant is being done to allay the apprehensions of the job aspirants” they said.

    The protesters demanded that the Lieutenant Governor administration should rise to the occasion and take necessary measures for the larger benefit of the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.

    SRINAGAR: Medical superintendent of district hospital Shopian was on Tuesday attached for allegedly allowing the illegal running of a fair price medical shop running illegally in the hospital premises.

    According to an order issued by District Administration, the Deputy Commissioner Shopian attached the concerned MS with his office over his failure to act against the owner of fare price medical shop.

    Deputy commissioner Shopian also ordered constitution of 4-member committee headed by ADC Shopian with CMO, Accounts Officer DC office Shopian and district litigation officer as it members.

    The committee has been asked to submit the report within 15 days.

    The order said that a fair price shop was allotted to Amir Medical Store in 2012 for five years till 2017, and despite completion of contract term, the said medical superintendent nor his predecessors served a single eviction notice to the offender, butr allowed running of the shop illegally and unauthorisedly beyond expiry period.

    “The negligence of the officer in the management of the hospital resources has resulted in a significant financial loss to the state exchequer”, said the order.

    The order further said that the failure of the officer to meet the expectations of his role as MS had  been documented on several occasions, however, despite efforts, he failed to improve and this has had a negative impact on the quality of patient care and management of financial affairs of the institute.

    ” In the circumstantial background, due to his failure to perform duties, pending enquiry into the conduct and performance, MS Shopian Khalid Abass is hereby attached with this office,” it reads.

    The order states the deputy chief medical officer Shopian shall discharge the functions of Medical superintendent DH Shopian till further orders.

    SRINAGAR: The two-way traffic resumed on the 270-km-Jammu Srinagar national highway on Wednesday after the road was blocked by a massive landslide that hit seri area of Ramban District on Tuesday resulting in the death of one JCB operator and injuries to six commuters, officials said.

    The debris on the only all-weather road linking Kashmir with the rest of the country, were cleared by road clearance agencies late Tuesday night after nearly eight hours of hectic efforts.

    “After clearing hundreds of stranded vehicles on Tuesday night, fresh light motor vehicles (LMVs) were allowed from both Jammu and Srinagar, while heavy motor vehicles were only allowed from Jammu to Srinagar this morning,” a traffic department official said on Wednesday.

    He said the traffic was moving smoothly on the highway when last reports were received.

    The stranded vehicles were allowed to move towards their respective destinations around 10 pm on Tuesday after the clearance of the debris, the officials said.
