Washington: Met Gala, one of the biggest fashion nights, was held in New York City on Monday.
This year’s theme was “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” based on the new Costume Institute exhibition exploring the work of the iconic designer. Lagerfeld, who died in 2019 at the age of 85, spent decades creating clothes for Balmain, Patou, Chloe, Fendi and Chanel in addition to his own namesake label, Page Six reported.
But did you know that apart from the Indian celebs who walked the red carpet at the event, this year’s Gala night had another big Indian connection?
The beautiful red carpet on which the celebs walked was actually “made in India”. Yes, you read that right.
The carpet, not exactly red, was beige with a smattering of red and blue lines on it and was designed by an Indian design house based by Neytt by Extraweave, a design house based in Kerala.
Taking to Instagram, Neytt shared the news on their official Instagram handle and captioned it, “A proud moment for our team to provide carpets to the Met Gala for the second time in a row. Contemporary design, woven with love, rooted in Kerala. Made in India,” they wrote along with a picture of the carpet at the gala.
Reportedly, the carpet for the 2023 Met Gala took 60 days to make. The 6960 square metre carpet was made out of 58 30×4 metre rolls.
Several big celebs like Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, Karlie Kloss, Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie, Kylie Jenner, Isha Ambani, Jennifer Lopez, Robert Pattinson, Jared Letto, Zendaya, Rihanna. Kim Kardashian and Gigi Hadid among others marked their presence at the Gala. (
Washington: Alia Bhatt, who made her debut at the Met Gala 2023 in New York, was called Aishwarya (Rai Bachchan) by the paps on the red carpet.
The ‘Raazi’ star won the hearts of millions with her sartorial choices at Met Gala. Alia opted for a pristine white gown with a billowing silhouette from the shelves of Prabal Gurung.
Prabal has shared many pictures and videos of Alia on his Instagram account. Among those, there’s a video, in which, Alia was called by a paparazzo as ‘Aishwarya this way’. However, Alia posed for the paps, smiled at them, and walked off. Prabal also helped her with her gown on the stairs of the red carpet.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is a well-known name at international podiums. But she is a more familiar face at the Cannes than at Met Gala.
After walking the red carpet, Alia shared pictures of her Met Gala look on Instagram and revealed that her royal ensemble was made using one lakh pearls.
“Met Gala — Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty…I have always been fascinated by the iconic Chanel brides. Season after season, the genius of Karl Lagerfeld shone through in the most innovative and awe-inspiring couture. My look tonight was inspired from this and in particular by supermodel Claudia Schiffer’s 1992 Chanel bridal look.. I wanted to do something that felt authentic (hello, pearls!) and proudly made in India. The embroidery, made with a 100,000 pearls is a labour of love by @prabalgurung. I’m so proud to wear you for my first Met,” she shared.
“A girl can never have too many pearls… and the right accessories to complement the look which in our case translated to the bow of pearls on my hair. Oh, and it’s white, for my Choup-ED,” Alia added.
Mumbai: Priyanka Chopra is well-known for her impeccable sense of style, but her latest accessory at the 2023 Met Gala took things to a whole new level. The Bollywood sensation wore a Bulgari 11.6-carat diamond necklace, which left everyone speechless.
The lovely piece that everyone has been talking about is estimated to have a whopping price of (USD 25 million) approximately Rs 204 crores! Yes, you read that correctly. The price of Priyanka’s neckpiece would make anyone’s jaw drop.
What’s more, there’s a viral tweet about it going around. “Her USD 25 million @Bulgariofficial necklace will be auctioned off after the Met Gala @priyankachopra,” the tweet says.
The diamond necklace is expected to be auctioned off following the Met Gala, and we can only imagine how much fuss it will cause among jewellery collectors and enthusiasts. The Bulgari necklace was the ideal complement to Priyanka’s Valentino-designed black gown with a thigh-high slit. The actress walked the red-carpet hand in hand with her husband, Nick Jonas, who looked equally dashing in his suit.

For her Met Gala debut, Alia opted for a pristine white gown with a billowing silhouette from the shelves of Prabal Gurung.
This time the Met Gala theme paid homage to the late designer Karl Lagerfeld and our Bollywood diva followed it in the most elegant way. The new mother of one perfectly delivered on the theme in the pure white princess gown that had a long train, with every inch of its bodice drenched in pearls.
Also, her white outfit channelled a 1992 bridal look created for Chanel by Karl Lagerfeld and modelled by Claudia Schiffer.

Alia teamed the gown with embellished gloves, matching diamond earrings and rings. For the glam, she opted for centre-parted half-tied ponytail, high heels, subtle smoky eye shadow, kohl-lined eyes, nude lip shade, and a dewy base.

As our Indian brides always wear flowers in their hair, delicate hand strung jasmine buds, so today we created these with pearls and a few spikes to add the right amount of danger and sweetness in a bow! This appearance of Alia will precede her Hollywood debut in Heart of Stone. Helmed by Tom Harper, Heart of Stone is intended to be the first installment in a series akin to Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible.

Taking to Instagram story, Alia shared a couple of pictures with her cat.
In the first picture, she can be seen facing her back towards the camera while dressed in a black strapless gown and holding her cat.
She wrote, “Prepping for the Met…”
And in the next actor can be seen showering love and kisses on Edward and captioning it, “with my own Coup-Ed.”
On Sunday, Alia also shared a photo from her room in New York and captioned it “New York- You were missed.”
Before Alia, a few Indian celebrities have walked the red carpet at Met Gala. It was 2017 when the global icon Priyanka Chopra walked the red carpet in a thigh-high slit gown with a popped collar, which came with a never-ending trail that became a highlight of her look. Her last appearance at the Met Gala was in 2019.
Deepika Padukone attended the Met Gala event several times. Her last appearance was in 2019.
And fans are excited to see Alia’s Met Gala look. If reports are to be believed, she is expected to walk the red carpet in designer Prabal Gurung outfit.
The 2023 Met Gala will take place on May 1st in New York City. It celebrates the opening of the Costume Institute exhibition, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.”

Taking to Instagram, German blogger Caroline Daur shared a string of pictures and videos from the Gala night which she captioned, “deeply impressed by the extraordinary exhibition India in Fashion showcasing the fine craftsmanship and elaborately embroidered works celebrating the creatives and the heritage of India.”

In the second last video actors SRK, Ranveer Singh, and Varun Dhawan could be seen dancing to the song ‘Jhoome Jo Pathaan’ at the gala night.
In the last video, the German blogger could be seen enjoying paan next to King Khan.
The ‘Don’ actor could be seen wearing a black kurta.
Soon after she shared the post, SRK fans swamped the comment section and dropped red hearts and fire emoticons.
“Shah Rukh Khan, the king of Bollywood, just casually behind you eating from the buffet is the vibe I am living for,” a fan commented.
