    SRINAGAR: The School Education Department Tuesday sought list of all private schools functioning from government land and ordered its management to compulsorily provide free education to children from weaker and disadvantaged sections.

    Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK), in a communique has directed all the  Chief Education Officers (CEOs) of the region to implement the free and compulsory education to children from weaker and disadvantaged sections by private unaided schools under section 12 (1) C of RTE Act 2009.

    DSEK said that RTE, Act Section 12 (1) C envisages that all private unaided schools have the responsibility to dispense and provide free education to children from weaker and disadvantaged sections and admit at least one-fourth that is 25 percent of the total strength of class-I or pre-school education.

    It further said, “All those private schools which are functioning on state land shall compulsorily admit the 25 percent of students from weaker section of their catchment area by properly publicizing the admission.”

    The director of the region in this regard has requested all the CEOs to immediately furnish the list of all Private Schools functioning on the state land immediately.

    Pertinently, the section 12 (1) (c) of the RTE Act, 2009 fixes the responsibility of private unaided schools to provide free and compulsory education to children from weaker and disadvantaged sections by admitting at least one- fourth of the total strength of class I or pre-school education.     Russia, India negotiating on free trade agreement

    New Delhi: Visiting Russian Minister of Trade and Industry, Denis Manturov, said on Monday that India and Russia are deliberating on a free trade agreement (FTA), a move which could enhance commercial relations between the two nations.

    The talks between the two countries on a possible FTA are likely to further accelerate economic relations between both the nations, despite Europe and America urging India to distance itself from Russia due to the latter’s invasion of Ukraine in February last year.

    India’s imports from Russia have grown more than four times to $46.33 billion over the last fiscal, mainly due to oil purchases from that country.

    “We pay special attention to the issues of mutual access of production to the markets of our countries,” Manturov said during an industry event.

    He added that along with the Eurasian Economic Commission, Russia is looking forward to fast-track negotiations on a free trade agreement with India.

    External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who was also present at the event, said that the Covid-19 pandemic had disrupted discussions on an FTA between the two countries, but expressed hope that talks will resume on it soon.

    SRINAGAR: In a move towards making Srinagar city garbage and dumpster free, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has added 150 new collection and transportation  vehicles, and starts its path-breaking GIS based and real time GPS monitored 100% door to door Segregated Waste Collection system and

    The SMC has initiated removal of dumpsters to make city free of dumpsters and garbage.

    Commissioner SMC, Athar Aamir Khan has issued a revised area and ward wise deployment schedule of Garbage Collection Vehicles across the city to ensure 100% collection of segregated dry and wet waste.

    SMC has added more than 150 vehicles to its existing fleet including 100 new light motor vehicles for door to door primary collection and around 50 new heavy motor vehicles including modern compactors for secondary transportation.

    All vehicles have been enabled with GPS devices for real time monitoring. The GIS mapping and geo-fencing of all areas and wards up to lane level has been done to ensure efficient and timely waste collection. The areas and households to be serviced by each vehicle have been mapped.

    The Integrated Solid Waste Management IT System under Smart City project will enable comprehensive monitoring. It has been enabled with features including live location tracking, route & time deviation alerts, grievance redressal and quality assurance tools.

    The garbage collection vehicles will reach each and every household and every commercial establishment including shops in Srinagar City. People will have to necessarily hand over the segregated waste to SMC garbage collection vehicles.

    SMC is closing down all the garbage vulnerable points as well as the sites where dumpsters used to be located. It has been prohibited to deposit waste at such points now onwards. General public as well as commercial establishments shall handover the waste to SMC’s vehicles only and shall refrain from putting them at any other place.

    The notification issued by Commissioner SMC, Athar Aamir Khan also informs the general public that in case Garbage Collection vehicle doesn’t come to their house or establishment or is not on time, the local ward level officers shall be contacted or SMC’s control room shall be informed. The contact details of concerned ward level officials and details of vehicles deployed in each area have been shared in the public notification.

    The success of the initiative is heavily dependent on the participation and cooperation of the general public. Segregated waste collection will help SMC better manage the waste at the Achan site.

    SMC is also working on the project for removal of legacy waste and biomining and bioremediation of existing waste at its Achan Landfill site. The legal waste removal plan has been prepared in consultation with IIT Jammu and NIT Srinagar and has been projected for funding under SBM 2.0 (GNS)

    Srinagar, Apr 16 (GNS): Tiffin Aaw – a Srinagar-based food delivery start-up, has been distributing free food to the patients and their attendants in several city hospitals amid ongoing holy month of Ramadan.

    In a statement issued to GNS, the founder and owner of Tiffin Aaw, Rayees Ahmad Dar said that they have been distributing free meals since the first day of the holy month of Ramadan.

    “We have been serving the patients and attendants for the last 25 days during Iftar (break-fast) and Sehri (pre-dawn meals). We distribute the food in various hospitals including at Children Hospital, JVC Bemina and L D Hospital,” Rayees said.

    He said that this free meal initiative was all possible because of all those who contributed for it. “We only prepare and distribute it but the actual credit goes to those who contribute some money for these needy people and make this possible,” he said.

    “We are thankful to them for choosing us because they believe in our food quality. They are not only contributing but also empowering the new start-ups,” he added.

    Nida Rehman, the co-founder of ‘Tiffn Aaw’ and who is also Rayees’s wife, said that they have been mostly focusing on Children Hospital Bemina.

    “We distribute at least 400 food packets to the patients and attendants per day in this hospital. The hospital is located on the bypass road and lacks a proper market where people could buy food for Iftari and Sehri, even as many are too poor to buy the food,” she said.

    Muzaffar Ahmad, an attendant from south Kashmir’s Kulgam district who was at the Children Hospital said, “We appreciate the organizers for serving free food to patients. It completely feels homemade and is hygienic to eat.”

    Notably, ‘Tiffin Aaw’ distributed free meals to the COVID-19 patients at city hospitals 2020 and 2021, which garnered them love and appreciation from different sections of society. (GNS)
