    Weight cuts
    Red Bull’s weight problems were talked about a lot last season. At the beginning of the year, when Ferrari had by all accounts the best car on the track, there was much concern within the Milton Keynes team about the excessive mass that the RB18 carried, learned during the Grands Prix. Speaking of this at the end of the season, Adrian Newey himself defined “embarassing” the difficulties that the Austrian team had encountered. However, it was difficult to imagine that in view of 2023 it was not only the car that was being put on a diet but also the team’s main driver: Max Verstappen. The two-time world champion, speaking to the site De Telegraphhas in fact revealed that he lost as much as ten kilos of body weight during the off-season. However, the story is more complicated than that and is also linked to the not always very healthy eating habits of the 25-year-old from Hasselt.

    Max’s diet
    In fact, the young Red Bull star revealed that he first put on a few extra pounds during the winter and then that he particularly tightened his belt to be in top form at the start of the new season, in which he will go in search of his third consecutive world title. “All year round I feel below what would be my normal weight – explained Verstappen, underlining how usually his weight gain during the winter break is around 5 kg – then I give myself a month to eat and drink what I want and have some fun“. To get back in perfect shape this year, the orange champion lost 10 kg in about six weeks before the tests.

    New motorhome
    The #1 of the Milton Keynes stable also explained that he doesn’t have particular difficulties in returning, even drastically, to his ‘race’ weight: “I like to hurt myself a little“, he joked. But the one indicated by the scales is not the only novelty that will accompany Verstappen in his 2023. In fact, the Dutchman has also revealed that this year he will use one of his motorhomes during the European Grands Prix. “So I can stay focused during the race weekends – has explained – and maybe even stay in bed a little longer in the morning. But above all it is a matter of privacy”he concluded.

    Surprise effect
    In Bahrain, in addition to the ‘usual’ three top teams – Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes – the green Aston Martin captured the attention of insiders.     Alonso workaholic
    During the tests, the bulk of the work was done by Fernando Alonso, who was able to enjoy four driving sessions, as opposed to the three reserved by the other teams for all his colleagues, due to the absence of Lance Stroll. The Canadian fractured his wrists during a training session on his bike and had to leave his car to third rider Felipe Drugovich, who he rode on Thursday and Saturday mornings and who will almost certainly be in the car also in the first GP of the season. One could imagine Alonso happy to have been able to ‘enjoy’ the new car for longer than his rivals, but that’s not the case. The two-time world champion, in fact, has rediscovered himself as a man-team and at the Spanish site AS he confided the only real regret of his tests.

    Stroll’s absence
    “More miles for me without Stroll? It’s actually worse – explained the veteran of Oviedo – worse because I hear things in the car, or transmit them to the engineers, that I don’t know if they are part of the Aston Martin philosophy or if they really derive from the physics of the car“. Stroll’s long militancy in the family team (his father Lawrence is the owner) would have helped to dispel some doubts: “Had there been the pilot who has been here every year – concluded Alonso – that would have been of great help.     The ordeal of Marc Marquez
    On July 19, 2020 the career of Marc Marquez he took an unexpected turn, with the disastrous crash in the Jerez de la Frontera escape route 4 laps from the end of the race, after an extraordinary comeback that had brought him behind Maverick Vinales. The response from the fracture of the humerus in his right arm then saw the Catalan Honda champion hasten the recovery process, even showing up after just a week astride his RC213V in the Andalusian GP trials. An error, paid for dearly by Marquez and which was associated with a worsening of the clinical picture, with two other operations that became necessary, also due to an infection that took over the fracture. In April 2021, the eight-time world champion returned to the track and, albeit visibly suffering and with incorrect posture, incredibly managed to win three races. Then diplopia was added, twice, and the need for a fourth surgery in mid-2022 to fix the over-rotation of the limb, the cause of the many pains of #93.
    And the last operation was a sort of last resort: Marquez in fact explained that, if it didn’t have positive results, he would never return to the track. Fortunately everything went smoothly and after six GPs, the Honda champion is back on track, finally without the excruciating pain he had had to live with in the last two years.

    The support of colleagues
    In his TV series called ‘All In’, Marquez told which riders supported him before and after his last surgery, a crucial point for the continuation of his career. “Aleix Espargarò was one of the few who came to see me, and Fabio Quartararo also stopped by“said the centaur from Cervera, pointing the finger at his former teammate: “For example pOl Espargarò didn’t come to find me, yet he was standing right next to me in the stall. Of course you don’t expect everyone to come, but for example Aleix I really didn’t expect it. But now I know who supports me and who doesn’t, who wishes me the best and who doesn’t.
