Blue badges still remain for legacy Twitter users as April Fool’s Day passes

New York: As April Fool’s Day came and passed, the blue check marks on Twitter remained for legacy verified accounts and Elon Musk was yet to remove them and make those users pay $8 (Rs 900 a month in India) to remain verified.

Almost all legacy Blue check marks were intact on Monday, two days after the Musk deadline.

A new verified tagline for legacy Blue users now reads: “This account is verified because it is subscribed to Twitter Blue or is a legacy verified account”.

Twitter CEO on Sunday said that verification of accounts will help a lot.

“We are adding the date of verification to the profile. Note, only date since paid verification counts, since there was so much corruption in the past with legacy checkmarks,” he tweeted.

Musk has removed just one blue badge – that for the account of the New York Times which posted that it will not pay $8 for the verified Blue service with verification.

“Oh ok, we’ll take it off then,” the Twitter CEO posted.

However, Twitter can still remove legacy Blue check marks (unless it was indeed an April Fool’s Day prank).

According to Musk, only verified accounts will be allowed to appear in ‘For You recommendations’, starting April 15.

“Starting April 15, only verified accounts will be eligible to be in For You recommendations. This is the only realistic way to address advanced AI bot swarms taking over. It is otherwise a hopeless losing battle. Voting in polls will require verification for the same reason, he said last week.

“That said, it’s ok to have verified bot accounts if they follow terms of service and don’t impersonate a human,” Musk added.

Meanwhile, a report recently revealed that half of Blue service subscribers have less than 1,000 followers on the platform.

Twitter is also reportedly planning to give a $1,000 checkmark free to the top 10,000 organisations by follower count.

Akshay Kumar uses his own meme for ‘prank’ video on All Fools Day

Mumbai: Bollywood‘s Khiladi star Akshay Kumar is known for his prank and this time he took it a notch higher by using his own meme for a prank video on April Fool’s Day.

Akshay took to Instagram to share a hilarious video of pranking his clothing brand FORCE IX’s co-founder Manish Mandhana. However, what caught the eye was the ending of the clip, where he shared a glimpse of his character Bunty from the film ‘Bhagam Bhag’.

The video, which seems to have been shot inside a studio, shows Akshay and the crew members of his clothing brand. In the clip, Akshay lifts up Mandhana with his arms, however, the impossible task is done by help, which the co-founder is not aware of.

Akshay then asked Manish to lift him in the same manner, asking him to take all the weight on his arms. When Manish failed to do so and said it was difficult, Akshay did the task twice and Mandhana was impressed with Akshay’s “impossible” strength.

The entire unit was seen chuckling as Mandhana seemed confused.

Akshay captioned the clip: “Here’s some prank inspo for you all to try today. Tell me how it went. April Fool’s Day.”

On the work front, Akshay will next be seen in ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. He also has ‘OMG 2’, Hindi remake of ‘Soorarai Pottru’, ‘Capsule Gill’ and ‘Hera Pheri 3’.

April fools? The Twitter blue check apocalypse that wasn’t

Without any weight behind the symbol of authentication that the blue check mark provided, any Twitter user could hypothetically pay to impersonate a public figure or company.

In the days leading up to Saturday’s supposed blue check apocalypse, legacy verified accounts from LeBron James to Monica Lewinsky tweeted out against the new policy.

Major news organizations, including the New York Times, Washington Post and CNN, announced this week that they would not pay for staff members to maintain a blue check status. The White House sent an email to staffers informing them that it would not pay for Twitter Blue.

Former vice president of global commerce and media at Twitter, Nathan Hubbard, tweeted on Friday that phasing out verification was a “risky” policy change and that, “If most OG blue checks stop tweeting in protest of being asked to pay to create the content that Twitter lives by…Twitter dies.”

After previously tweeting that “paid account social media will be the only social media that matters,” Musk was noticeably silent Saturday on the lack of discernible change in the app’s interface, only retweeting an advertisement first posted by Tesla’s company account and an old photograph of himself with the caption, “Me after 1 day of not eating sugar.”

Twitter’s communications office was unreachable for comment.

And as of noon on April Fools’ Day, the previously verified blue checks remained.

On April Fools’ Day, Bandi Sanjay mocks KCR’s unemployment allowance promise

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: On April Fools’ Day, Bandi Sanjay, the Telangana BJP president, took a dig at Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s unemployment allowance promise. Sanjay shared KCR’s photograph and sarcastically wrote, “Unemployed youth will be given ₹3016 allowance – CM KCR. If you believed that, Happy April Fools Day!”

This statement comes at a time when the BJP is leaving no stone unturned to target KCR ahead of the upcoming assembly polls in Telangana.

    Telangana unemployment allowance

The unemployment allowance scheme was promised by KCR during the 2018 assembly polls when he sought a second term for the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).

The scheme aims to provide Rs 3,016 per month to unemployed youths across the state.

BJP aims to win maximum seats in Assembly polls in Telangana

The BJP is leaving no stone unturned to win a maximum number of seats in the upcoming assembly polls in Telangana.

In the last assembly polls in 2018, the TRS won a resounding mandate, winning 88 out of 119 seats, while the Congress had to settle for just 19. The BJP could only manage to win a single seat.

However, their hopes increased after their performance in the GHMC elections.

The BJP’s constant targeting of KCR’s promises, including the unemployment allowance scheme, seems to be a part of their strategy to gain more votes in the upcoming polls.

  • ‘Don’t think Biharis as fools’, Tejashwi targets BJP at mega rally

‘Don’t think Biharis as fools’, Tejashwi targets BJP at mega rally

    [ad_1]

Patna: The Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav, on Saturday targeted the BJP during a mega rally of the Mahagathbandhan in Purnia.

“We are Biharis and don’t think of us as fools (Ham Log Bihari Hai, Hamko Burbak Mat Samjhiye),” Tejashwi said while taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the promises he had made before the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

It was a show of strength for the Mahagathbandhan on Saturday as each and every MLA, MP and minister were present at the rally.

“During a rally at this same venue in 2014, Narendra Modi had promised to give special status to Bihar. But it turned into a ‘jumla’. Don’t assume that we Biharis are fools. We understand everything. The Centre had said that the income of the farmers would double by 2022, but what happened to that promise? What happened to the promise of concrete houses for every countryman? Please tell us one promise made by the Centre which has been fulfilled,” Tejashwi said.

“What was there for Bihar in the Union Budget this year? Zero. It is Chief Minister Nitish Kumar who is developing Bihar in his own capacity,” the RJD leader said.

“BJP does not have any leader, all of them are dealers. They are only trying to divide the society on religious lines. I’m the son of Lalu Prasad, who never compromised with the communal forces in his entire life. I will not bend before these forces,” Tejashwi said.
