“We are super excited if we get into that market as we are currently going through the regulatory normal process and as soon as that is closed we will be able to announce routes,” Johan Eidhagen told Khaleej Times.

Wizz Air Abu Dhabi is known for its discount ticket sales of 179 Dirhams (Rs 3,984). This airline will offer super cheap air fares and other massive discounts similar to India routes once it gets the green light to start operations.

In 2022, 1.2 million passengers travelled on Wizz Air Abu Dhabi.

The aim is to increase this to over two million passengers by 2023. Currently, Wizz Air operates Abu Dhabi service every three to four days. The company aims to bring this to every day of the week.

  • ‘It’s something I have to do’: pilots who fly abortion patients across state lines – video

    [ad_1]

Ben is one of hundreds of volunteer pilots in the US flying people across state lines in their small private planes so they can obtain abortion healthcare. He’s part of an Illinois-based group called Elevated Access that connects pilots with patients. Since the overturning of Roe v Wade in 2022 dismantled 50 years of legal protection around abortion access in the US, thousands of patients are now forced to travel to obtain the healthcare they need – which can be expensive, time consuming and risky

Culture | The flags fly in honor of the Kalevala and Finnish culture on Tuesday

    [ad_1]

The Kalevala Day was officially flagged in 1978.

Tuesday let’s celebrate Kalevala and Finnish culture day. It’s the official flag day, and the flags fly in secret from eight in the morning until sunset.

The author of Kalevala, or Finland’s national epic, was Elias lönnrot, who in the 19th century collected folk poems from Eastern Finland and Viena Karelia, among others. The Kalevala was completed in 1835, and Lönnrot wrote the preface to it just on February 28.

As the material accumulated, Lönnrot began working on a new, more extensive Kalevala, which appeared in 1849.

The Kalevala day has been marked on the Finnish calendar since 1950, and two years later, in the University of Helsinki’s almanac, the day was among the general flag days. The Kalevala Day was officially flagged in 1978.

  • Israeli carriers can fly directly to India with Oman opening its airspace: Netanyahu

Israeli carriers can fly directly to India with Oman opening its airspace: Netanyahu

    [ad_1]

Jerusalem: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday welcomed the authorisation for Israeli carriers to fly over Oman as a “great day” for the aviation industry as it will connect the country directly with India and also help establish Israel as the main transit point between Asia and Europe.

“The Far East is not so far away and the skies are no longer the limit”, Netanyahu said in a statement after receiving the Omani authorisation.

“This is a day of great news for Israeli aviation. Israel has, in effect, become the main transit point between Asia and Europe”, the Israeli prime minister added.

Israel received authorisation from Saudi Arabia and the Israeli leader said that he worked since his 2018 visit to Oman on getting permission for Israeli carriers to fly over its airspace so that they could go directly to India and onwards to Australia.

Oman and Israel do not have diplomatic ties.

“This was achieved today, after considerable effort, including in recent months. Here is good news Israel is opening up to the east on an unprecedented scale”, Netanyahu stressed.

Until now, Israeli airlines’ flights to East Asia, India and Thailand were forced to fly south to avoid the Arabian Peninsula a route that added two and a half hours and wasted expensive fuel, local media reported.

With the Omani announcement, Israeli flights can shave off two to four hours to popular destinations like India and Thailand.

The development could potentially reduce ticket prices as well, given that airlines would save money on fuel.

Air India has been flying from Tel Aviv to Delhi directly using Saudi and Omani airspace, which saves time and makes the flights much more cost-efficient.

Last year Saudi Arabia allowed Israeli airlines to use its airspace but because Omani airspace was closed, Israeli carriers could not use the route to fly to Asia. The Saudi Arabian decision came after United States President Joe Biden visited the region last year.

Brussels: Flags of the 30 NATO member states at the military alliance’s headquarters in Brussels flew at half-staff to honour the nearly 8,000 people who lost their lives in the devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria earlier this week.

In a Twitter post on Tuesday, the 30-member alliance, of which Turkey is a member, said: “All flags at NATO Headquarters are at half-mast today in solidarity with our ally Turkey.”

NATO also outlined its contributions to relief efforts.

“Over 1,400 emergency response personnel from more than twenty NATO allies and partners, including invitees Finland and Sweden, are deploying to Turkey, helping to respond to the devastating earthquakes which struck the country,” the post read.

On Monday, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg had said that he was in contact with Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, adding that “NATO allies are mobilising support now”.
