MP: Trainee pilot, flight instructor killed as flight crashes in Balaghat

    [ad_1]

Balaghat: A trainer aircraft crashed on Saturday in the hilly region of Madhya Pradesh’s Naxalite-affected Balaghat district and caught fire, killing the flight instructor and the woman trainee pilot, officials said.

The aircraft belonged to the IGRAU (Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi) which was on a training sortie, and prima facie bad weather caused the crash, said an official from Gondia in neighbouring Maharashtra.

Balaghat Superintendent of Police Sameer Saurabh said two badly burnt bodies were recovered from the spot which falls under the Lanji police station.

He said the charred body of a man (believed to be that of pilot Mohit Thakur’s) was found on the hills of Lanji and Kirnapur areas, about 40 km from the Balaghat district headquarters, near the site of the crash.

“We received information at around 3:45 pm (about the crash). As the area falls under the Naxalite-infested belt, security forces were summoned. Other personnel reached the spot after the area was cordoned off. We have recovered the bodies of the flight instructor and the woman pilot which are badly burnt. The spot comes under the Lanji police station”, Saurabh added.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Anurag Sharma told PTI the trainer aircraft took off from the Birsi airstrip in Gondia district bordering Balaghat at 3.06 pm. It lost connection with the Air Traffic Control (ATC) at 3.11 pm.

“It is widely believed that the charred body was that of pilot Mohit Thakur’s (around 25 years),” he said and added the woman trainee pilot, Vrikshanka Maheshwari, (around 20 years) is missing.

“Prima facie, both of them perished in the crash,” he added.

The trainer aircraft belongs to IGRAU (Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi). It crashed at the hills near Bhukkutola village in Balaghat district at around 3:30 pm, killing a flight training captain and a female trainee, IGRAU Administrative Officer Satya Kumar told PTI in Gondia.

“The trainer aircraft with flight instructor captain Mohit took off from the Birsi airport on a routine sortie at around 3 PM. It reportedly crashed due to bad weather in the hills near Bhukkutola village,” he said.

“The aircraft caught fire in which bodies of captain Mohit and the trainee pilot were badly mutilated. After getting the information, a fire-fighting team and a rescue team from Birsi along with other officials concerned rushed to the spot,” he added.

The wreckage of the aircraft was traced on the hills, Kumar said, adding villagers were first to reach the spot.

Israel launches first direct flight route to Ireland

    [ad_1]

Jerusalem: The first direct flight route between Israel and Ireland was launched on Thursday, Israel’s Ministry of Transport and Road Safety said in a statement.

Israel’s flagship airline El Al inaugurated the route with a flight from Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport outside Tel Aviv to Dublin International Airport, Xinhua news agency reported.

Before takeoff, a ceremony was held at the Israeli airport with the participation of Israel’s Transport Minister Miri Regev, Irish Ambassador to Israel Kyle O’Sullivan, and other senior officials.

“The direct flights will contribute to strengthening the economic, cultural, tourism, and academic ties between the two nations, and to improving the relationship between the governments,” Regev said.

“Every new direct route connecting Israel to destinations around the world shortens flight times, saves fuel and carbon emissions, and contributes to competition between airlines,” she added.

O’Sullivan said that “the relationship between the two countries is very important. Many Israelis work in Ireland, and thanks to the new route, tourism will flourish.”

The new route, which includes three weekly flights, will shorten the travel time between Tel Aviv and Dublin from at least 8 hours with a stopover, to less than 5.5 hours.

New Delhi: Unruly behaviour by some passengers inside the flight has refused to cease. In a recent such instance, a man complained of a few drunk passengers who were allegedly harassing others, including some women in a Vistara flight.

“Today travelled with Vistara UK256. And faced one of the worst experiences. Few passengers were totally drunk and harassing Ladies and other people Still they gave more drink. Crew: Shreya, Chaitali, charles didn’t control and ignored the situation,” said a passenger on Twitter handle Bhavitals.

“Instead of teaching lessons to such passengers they were totally ignored. Vistara is famous for premium service but today I lost #vistara. And during offboarding instead of being serious about the situation, the crew were laughing and saying “uska(drunk)to pent nikal gaya tha,” the passenger tweeted on March 12.

Responding to the tweets, the airline said, “Our crew is trained to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone on board. This sounds like an unforeseen event. We do not condone such behaviour and absolutely give our best to provide a comfortable journey to our customers.”

In the last two years since 2021, including the current year, a total of 139 incidents of unruly behaviour were reported to DGCA by various airlines.

Air India cancels Chicago-Delhi flight after prolonged delay, passengers fume

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: A prolonged delay, and eventual cancellation, of the Air India flight from Chicago to Delhi left passengers fuming, as they complained that they were kept in the dark about the delays and the airline did not inform them about alternate arrangements to reach their destination till Wednesday evening.

AI 126 flight from Chicago to Delhi was scheduled to depart on March 14 at 1.30 p.m. (local time) and reach Delhi airport on 2.20 p.m. on March 15.

However, its nearly 300 passengers were waiting at the Chicago airport on Wednesday late evening and they were clueless about any alternate arrangement.

“The flight is over 22 hours late and we are still at the airport. There is nobody to guide us. The airline staff are hardly informing anything. We don’t know when we will be able to reach Delhi,” said Gopal Krishan Solanki who was waiting for information about the flight.

Sources claimed that amongst the passengers is a person who lost his mother and he was to arrive for the last rites.

Solanki said the air passengers were provided with a hotel, but it was arranged very late. “We had to wait here for a long time and there was no information about the fight and accommodation. We were told about the hotel very late,” he added.

Meanwhile, Air India has said that the flight has been cancelled due to technical reasons. “Air India flight AI 126 on March 14, 2023 had to be cancelled due to technical reasons. The affected passengers were offered all-round support and are being accommodated on alternate flights. We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers,” said a Air India spokesperson on Wednesday.

A total of 1,171 flights were cancelled during the year 2022 due to technical reasons, as against 931 in 2021 and 1,481 in 2020, the government told Parliament on Tuesday.

Hyderabad: Union Minister for Home Amit Shah who visited Hyderabad to attend the 54th annual Raising Day celebrations of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Sunday waited for almost three hours for his flight to Kochi as it was delayed due to a technical glitch in the aircraft.
