House Dem laments ‘friendly fire’ after losing a plum panel seat

A Jeffries spokesperson noted that Quigley had already served for four full terms on the Intelligence Committee, but otherwise declined to comment.

The Intelligence Committee limits members to four terms on the panel, though members can receive waivers. Chairs and ranking members are exempt from the term limit.

Quigley’s exit also follows that of several other senior Intelligence Committee Democrats due to retirement or election to higher office, such as Reps. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) and Jackie Speier (D-Calif.). That turnover is leading some Democrats to worry about a loss of expertise — among them former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), spotted speaking to Jeffries on the House floor Wednesday evening about the need to maintain institutional knowledge on the panel through its longer-serving members like Quigley.

Asked Wednesday about Quigley, Pelosi said she “thought there was still an opportunity” for him to serve on the panel.

Another wrinkle to Quigley’s intelligence panel departure stems from Jeffries’ ascension atop the caucus. Quigley had privately backed Schiff when he was sounding out a potential leadership bid that would have pitted him against Jeffries, prompting some Democrats to theorize that Quigley’s removal from the committee was linked to leadership maneuvering. Schiff ultimately decided against running for leadership in favor of pursuing a Senate bid, and Jeffries ran unopposed for minority leader.

As the minority party, Democrats’ allotted number of seats on the committee shrank, forcing tough choices about appointments to the sought-after panel. To replace departing members, a half-dozen Democrats were added to the Intelligence Committee, including Reps. Ami Bera of California, Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey and Abigail Spanberger of Virginia, though several members of the panel who’d served on it in previous Congresses returned, including Reps. Andre Carson of Indiana and Joaquin Castro of Texas.

  • Hyderabad: Secundrabad building gutted in fire being razed at brisk pace

Hyderabad: Secundrabad building gutted in fire being razed at brisk pace

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Around 10 to 15 percent of the commercial building at Secundrabad that was gutted in fire on January 19, was reportedly brought down with the help of a long breaker hydraulic crane by evening on Friday.

With the demolishing team working at a brisk pace since Thursday, the process is expected to be completed within five to six more days.

The work started from the top floors with around 15 workers employed for the task.

A hydraulic crane with a diamond cutter, equipped with a water sprinkler facility, is being used to demolish the building.

The Deccan Knitwear Sports Accessories complex is being pulled down without much human interference, with a foolproof plan with none from the demolition team stepping afoot the building.

Since the corners and joints of the complex building were gutted completely in the fire mishap, they were the first to be pulled down.

Later, cranes started pulling down columns and beams of the structure.

The main roads which lead to the complex were also closed to traffic, as a precautionary measure.

No person was allowed near the demolition site, and other commercial establishments located nearby have been cordoned off for safety.

    Massive fire story

A massive fire broke out on January 19 in the building housing the garment store at Nallagutta on Minister Road in Secunderabad.

Two fire service officers were injured while trying to douse the fire, which raged for almost two days.

Three workers Waseem, Zaheer and Junaid were reported missing after a huge fire broke out in the building. Some survivors said the three persons had gone to collect their belongings but were trapped.

Nearly a week after the fire incident, the rescue workers continued to look for remains of the missing persons in the huge rubble.

The skeletal remains of one person were found on January 21 and the same were preserved at Gandhi Hospital for DNA analysis.

Israel launches air strikes on Gaza Strip in response to rocket fire

    [ad_1]

Tel Aviv: Israel launched a series of bombing raids in the central Gaza Strip in response to rocket attacks from Gazan terrorists, and said that the raids will lead to “significant harm to Hamas efforts” in building up its arms, The Times of Israel reported on Friday.

The Israel Defence Force (IDF) said that they targeted Bottom of Form, an underground facility where rockets are manufactured in the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza.

“The attack will lead to significant harm to Hamas’ efforts to build up its arms,” the IDF said in a statement, according to The Times of Israel.

Footage published on social media showed several large explosions from the airstrikes in Gaza.

Nine Palestinians, including several members of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) cell, other gunmen, and at least one uninvolved civilian, were killed, and another 20 were wounded in the clashes, reported The Times of Israel..

Israel says it holds Hamas responsible for all violence emanating from the Gaza Strip and generally responds to rocket fire with airstrikes against the group regardless of who launched the attack.

According to Israeli officials, the IDF had foiled a “ticking time bomb” in Jenin on Thursday after receiving “accurate intelligence” from the Shin Bet security agency about the PIJ cell’s hideout apartment in the camp, reported The Times of Israel.

As tit-for-tat continues, Israel and Gazan terrorists continued launching their rockets against each other. After Israel launched rockets, on Friday morning Ghaza launched several rockets toward southern Israel.

At least three rockets were fired from Gaza at around 3:30 am Friday, Israeli jets bombed sites said to belong to the Hamas terror group in retaliation for a rocket attack hours earlier.

One of the rockets was intercepted by the Iron Dome anti-missile system, another landed in an open field and a third fell short of the border, the army said, after alarms sounded in the towns of Nir Oz, Ein Habesor, and Magen.

Separately on Thursday afternoon, a Palestinian man was killed in clashes with Israeli troops in the town of a-Ram, north of Jerusalem, the PA Health Ministry said.

Tensions have recently soared in the West Bank as the Israel Defence Force presses on with an anti-terror offensive mostly focused on the northern West Bank to deal with a series of attacks that have left 31 people in Israel dead in 2022, as per The Times of Israel report.
