Legal notice to Mamata Banerjee for comments on ‘The Kashmir Files’

    [ad_1]

Kolkata: Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri on Tuesday informed that he had sent a legal notice to the West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee for her alleged derogatory comments about the film ‘The Kashmir Files’ directed by him.

Agnihotri announced this through a Twitter message, where he has also uploaded a copy of the legal notice.

In his message, Agnihotri pointed out his objections to the chief minister’s announcing ban on the screening of ‘The Kerala Story’ in the state on Monday, where she claimed that films like ‘The Kashmir Files’ and ‘The Kerala Story’ were meant for humiliating a certain section of the society.

“I have, alongwith @AbhishekOfficl & Pallavi Joshi, sent a LEGAL NOTICE to the Chief Minister, Bengal @MamataOfficial for her false & highly defamatory statements made with malafide intention to defame us & our films #TheKashmirFiles & upcoming 2024 film #TheDelhiFiles,” Agnihotri said in his Twitter message.

“They are trying to create division among the people on the basis of religion and caste. That is why ‘The Kashmir Files’ was made just to malign the people of a particular community. And now we have ‘The Kerala Story’, which is yet another untrue story with distorted facts,” the chief minister said on Monday while announcing the ban on the screening of ‘The Kerala Story’.

The announcement of the ban has attracted scathing criticism from the opposition BJP, which is even planning to challenge it in the court.

  • Congress files complaint against Karnataka BJP candidate for ‘threat to kill Kharge’

Congress files complaint against Karnataka BJP candidate for ‘threat to kill Kharge’

    [ad_1]

Panaji: The Congress in Goa on Monday filed a complaint against BJP candidate Manikanta Rathod from Karnataka for the alleged plot to assassinate Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and his family.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Amit Patkar along with other office bearers filed the complaint at the Panaji police station.

Patkar speaking to reporters, alleged that a conspiracy to kill Kharge and his family was hatched by the BJP candidate from Chittapur seat Manikanta Rathod, who was heard purportedly saying so in Kannada in an audio clip.

    MS Education Academy

“The BJP leader has clearly said in the audio tape that he will kill Mallikarjun Kharge and his family. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, and Election Commission are mum on this issue. We have filed a complaint and have demanded to register a FIR and probe the case,” Patkar said.

Stating that the government has failed to take action against Rathod, Patkar questioned whether “we are in a democracy”.

“This is an open threat to our leader. There are several cases against Rathod. Such a person has been given a ticket by the BJP and despite his threat to our leader, no action has been taken against him,” Patkar said.

“The murder plot is very clear from the audio recording of BJP candidate from Chittapur, Shri Manikanta Rathod, who also happens to be the ‘Blue Eyed Boy’ of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Chief Minister of Karnataka Shri Basavaraj Bommai,” the complaint stated.

“There is a designed hatred, towards the tall leader of the country Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, on part of the BJP leadership, and that the BJP is unable to digest the fact, that having been born in a Dalit family to a factory labourer, Shri Mallikarjun Kharge has risen from the post of block Congress president to be the president of the Indian National Congress,” it said.

“The BJP leaders are openly plotting the assassination of Mallikarjun Kharge, his wife and the entire family, and that, the frustration and desperation of the BJP and its leadership has now reached dangerous proportions,” the complaint stated.

  • NIA files chargesheet in 2022 Coimbatore blast, says prime accused ‘inspired’ by ISIS

NIA files chargesheet in 2022 Coimbatore blast, says prime accused ‘inspired’ by ISIS

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The NIA on Thursday filed a chargesheet against six people in connection with the October 2022 Coimbatore car bomb blast, saying the prime accused of the terrorist attack was “inspired by ISIS ideology”.

The case pertains to an explosion that took place on October 23, 2022 at an ancient temple, “Arulmigu Kottai Sangameshwarar Thirukovil”, on Eswaran Kovil Street, Ukkadam in Coimbatore.

A vehicle-borne improvised explosives device (V-IED), driven by Jamesha Mubeen, had blown up in front of the temple. Mubeen was killed in the blast, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) said in a statement.

    MS Education Academy

“Mubeen was inspired by ISIS ideology to carry out this attack. He had also taken ‘bayath’ or oath of allegiance to its self-proclaimed Caliph Abu-al-Hasan al-Hashimi al-Qurashi,” it said.

While the charges against Mubeen were abated as he was killed, the agency charged his alleged associates Mohammed Asarutheen, Mohammed Thalha, Firos, Mohammed Riyas, Navas and Afsar Khan under various sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), IPC and the Explosives Substances Act.

Mubeen, the NIA said, was “aided and assisted” by the six in arranging logistics.

“Thalha had sourced the Maruti 800 blue colour car bearing registration number TN-01-F-6163 which was used in the explosion of vehicle-borne IED,” it said.

Firos, Riyas and Navas had loaded the explosives, gas cylinders, etc. in the car making it the potent weapon it became, while Asarutheen and Afsar, both cousins of Mubeen, procured, weighed, mixed and packed the chemical constituents used to manufacture the V-IED used in the attack, the statement said.

A pendrive was recovered from Mohammed Asarutheen and it “contained” video recordings of Jamesha Mubeen, where he had identified himself as a member of Daulat-e-Islamia (or Islamic state), the NIA said.

“He had spoken extensively on his intention to commit a suicide terror attack against the ‘kafirs’ (non-believers) and to become a martyr.

“Mubeen was inspired by the bayans (sermons) of Zahran Hashim, a radical Islamic cleric of Sri Lanka, who masterminded the Easter serial suicide bomb attacks in 2019 killing around 260 people. Mubeen wanted to orchestrate a similar kind of attack against the ‘kafirs’ in India,” it said.

The agency said it also recovered handwritten notes from Mubeen’s residence where criticism of the “existing” democratic system, which are not in tandem with Islamic laws, has been mentioned.

There is also a mention of ‘targets’, including government offices, district courts, public gathering places like parks, railway stations and a few other local temples, in these notes, the NIA claimed.

It said the Islamic State of Khorasan Province’s online magazine called ‘Voice of Khorasan’ corroborated this in an article titled, ‘A Message to the Inhabitants in the Land Occupied by Cow and Mice Worshipping Filths’, where the ISKP took responsibility for this attack.

“The article goes on to state that the attack was revenge to uphold the honour of their religion and to establish Allah’s deen and his law upon his land and to terrorize the ‘Kufr’ and its followers with the threat that it was just the beginning,” the NIA said.
