Hyderabad: A woman in the Mancherial district was arrested by the police after she killed her friend and roommate when she refused to marry her.

P Malleshwari was arrested on Tuesday on charges of murdering her friend Salluri Anjali, 21, in the Ramakrishnapur forest area of the district on March 16.

According to the police, Anjali was found dead with her throat slit and wounds on her stomach in the forest.

However, Malleshwari during interrogation, confessed to her crime as she nursed a grudge against Anjali for turning down her proposal to marry her and meeting men against her will.

She said she took Anjali to the forests under the pretext of discussing their friendship and stabbed her and slit her throat following an argument.

The accused even tried to mislead the police by calling their friend Srinivas and claiming that she and Anjali attempted to kill themselves using a knife.

Srinivas immediately shifted Anjali to a hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

Following a complaint from Anjali’s mother, a case was booked against Malleshwari, who sustained minor injuries in the scuffle.

She was taken into custody after she was relieved from the hospital.

Tehran: One of Iran’s prominent women activist and journalists Sepideh Qolian, was rearrested a few hours after her release from Evin prison, Iranian media reported.

28-year-old Sepideh Qolian, was released on Wednesday, March 15, after serving four-years and seven months in prison.

After her release on March 15, Qolian posted on social media platforms a video of herself without the headscarf shouting slogans against Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei outside Tehran’s Evin prison.

“Khamenei the Zahhak! We’ll take you down into grave,” she shouted.

“After four years and seven months, I was released from the Haftepe case. This time I came out hoping for the freedom of Iran! Hoping for the release of my dear ones Sepideh Kashani, Nilofar Bayani, Zahra Zahtabchi, Bahare Hedayat, Golrokh Iraei, Nahid Taqavi and all political prisoners, especially women prisoners. #Zhen_Zhian_Ezadi,” Qolian tweeted.

Five hours later, Qolian was arrested on one of the highways while she and her family were traveling to their hometown of Dezful in the southwest of Khuzestan in three cars.

Qolian was arrested in 2018 and convicted of working “against national security” for supporting a strike and protest by workers at a sugar factory in Iran’s Khuzestan province.

She was initially sentenced to 19 years and six months in prison, but this sentence was reduced to five years in the appeal court.

In an open letter in January 2023, she pointed the torture in prison against the detainees of the recent nationwide protests, along with six other female prisoners, she protested against the “issue of death sentence” against the prisoners.

  • Saudi: Over 80 female cab drivers to be employed in four airports

Saudi: Over 80 female cab drivers to be employed in four airports

    [ad_1]

Riyadh: Over 80 female cab drivers will be hired soon in the four airports of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), local media reported.

The move is a part of the first phase of an initiative called Women’s Track meant to empower women in various fields of transportation. It was launched by the Transport General Authority (TGA) on Sunday in cooperation with the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development.

Under this phase, three agreements will be signed with major companies licensed to operate airport cabs. More than 80 female drivers will be hired starting from four airports.

    Four airports

    • King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh
    • King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah
    • King Fahd International Airport in Dammam
    • Prince Muhammad International Airport in Madinah

As per a report by Arabic daily Al-Watan, a comprehensive training program will be provided to acquire basic driving skills in addition to lessons in decoration, customer service, first aid and proficiency in the English language.

TGA said the women’s track initiative will contribute to improving and developing the experience of transportation services, in line with the authority’s keenness to support job creation, increase local content, and increase women’s role actively.

In the second phase of this initiative, women cab drivers will be employed in all other airports of the Kingdom.

The second edition of the Tawteen program is expected to create 1,70,000 jobs, including 25,000 in the industrial sector, 30,000 in tourism, and 20,000 in the health, transportation and logistics, real estate, and construction sectors.

This edition of the Tawteen program also aims to create 15,000 jobs in the business sector and another 40,000 jobs in other economic sectors.

This comes as the Kingdom continues its social reforms aimed at reducing the gender gap in line with the goals outlined in Vision 2030.

In a move to support the growing role of women in the national economy, the Kingdom has already announced it will include private female drivers as part of its new jobs under a supportive employment program.

Once infamous for female foeticide, Haryana celebrates birth of every girl child now: Khattar

    [ad_1]

Chandigarh: Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday said that Haryana, which was once infamous for female foeticide, is now celebrating the birth of every girl child and today, there are 923 girls for every 1,000 boys in the state.

All this has become possible because of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign which was launched in Panipat on January 22, 2015, he said.

“The state government, social organisations, khap panchayats, NGOs, and Education, Women and Child Development and Health departments have made tireless efforts to improve the sex ratio in Haryana. Besides, police ensured strict action against those involved in female foeticide.

“It is only because of these dedicated efforts that today there are 923 girls for every 1,000 boys in Haryana. In 2014, there were 871 girls for every 1,000 boys,” Khattar said.

Haryana, which was once infamous for female foeticide, is now celebrating the birth of every girl child, he said.

Speaking at a state-level ‘Samman Samaroh’ in Karnal, the chief minister honoured women who have made remarkable contributions in various fields like education, culture, defence, singing, medicine, social welfare, sports, aviation and mountaineering.

He honoured some women with the Sushma Swaraj Award, the Indira Gandhi Mahila Shakti Award and the Kalpana Chawla Shaurya Puraskar.

He also awarded cash prizes to the deputy commissioners of Fatehabad, Ambala, and Jind for the improvement of sex ratio in their districts, according to an official statement.

The representation of women in police has increased from 6 per cent in 2014 to 10 per cent today. The target is to take it to 15 per cent in the coming years, Khattar said.

“They say that behind every successful man, there is a woman. My mother has played a big role in my success,” he said.

He said after he cleared his matriculation exams and wanted to study further, his father did not support him but his mother gave him Rs 300 for his college admission.

“I dedicate my success to my mother. If she had not given me the money for further studies, then I might have not reached this position,” he added.

The chief minister also said that International Women’s Day should be celebrated as ‘Mahila Samman Diwas’.
