It will be good if people respond positively to celebrate Feb 14 as ‘Cow Hug Day’: Rupala

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Union Minister Parshottam Rupala on Thursday said it will be good if people respond positively to the call given by the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) to celebrate February 14 as Cow Hug Day’.

Rupala, who is Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, said nothing much should be read into the choice of February 14 as a date for this purpose.

February 14 is observed as Valentine’s Day across the world.

“This country has an age-old tradition of worshipping the cow and it is a matter of great happiness that people embrace the cow It is good if people respond positively to our appeal,” the minister told reporters.

Since February 14 is a day of love, it is good if people remember and love the cow on that day. “And if someone taunts on this, then one should not feel angry but feel pity…,” he added.

It is for the first time, AWBI — a statutory advisory body on animal welfare laws, has appealed to cow lovers in the country to celebrate ‘Cow Hug day’.

The Board noted that the appeal has been made because the vedic traditions are almost on the “verge of extinction” due to the progress of western culture.

The Board, established in 1962 under Section 4 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, provides grants to animal welfare organisations and advises the Centre on animal welfare issues.

Shraddha Walkar murder: Delhi court takes cognisance of charge sheet, scrutiny on Feb 21

    [ad_1]

Delhi: A Delhi court on Tuesday took cognisance of the charge sheet filed by Delhi Police against Aaftab Amin Poonawala, accused of murdering his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar and then chopping her body into several pieces.

On January 24, the police had filed the charge sheet in the case which contains over 6,000 pages and the court had extended Poonawala’s custody for 14 days.

After taking cognisance of the charge sheet, the court posted the matter for its scrutiny on February 21.

According to sources, the charge sheet was prepared on the basis of forensic and electronic evidence, and has around 100 witnesses.

Poonawala has been accused of killing Walkar and then chopping her body into several pieces and storing them in a refrigerator before disposing of them in the Chhatarpur forest area over a period of three months.

During the last hearing when Poonawala was produced before the court through video conferencing before Metropolitan Magistrate Aviral Shukla, he had contended that he wanted to change his lawyer.

Poonawala had demanded law books to study. The court had also directed the prison authorities to provide him with warm clothes.

On January 6, Poonawala had moved an application in the court seeking release of his debit and credit cards, citing the need for funds to purchase day-to-day items, as well as warm clothes.

Poonawala’s application was moved through his advocate seeking to release funds from his bank account citing that he did not have enough warm clothes to counter the winter chill inside the prison.

  • Schumer: All senators to receive briefing on spy balloon Feb. 15

    [ad_1]

    correction us china balloon 12451

China tried to steer the balloon to leave the U.S. “as soon as they could” once information about the balloon was exposed to the public, a press release from Schumer’s office said.

At least three similar balloons went over “portions of the U.S.” during the Trump administration, the press release said, though there were conflicting reports Sunday as to whether that is true.

Schumer also praised the Biden administration’s choice to shoot down the balloon over water as both the safest option and “the one that maximized our intel gain.” The U.S. can now analyze the surviving military equipment in the balloon, Schumer said.

“Republican critics were breathless, political, and premature. President Biden and his team were calm, calculating and effective,” Schumer said.

Members of the GOP on Sunday jumped on Biden’s delay in shooting down the balloon as a sign of perceived weakness.
