Samsung Galaxy Watch’s Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification feature cleared by FDA

    [ad_1]

Seoul; Samsung has announced that the Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification (IHRN) feature of the Samsung Health Monitor app for Galaxy Watch has received FDA (Food and Drug Administration) clearance.

Together with the app’s existing on-demand Electrocardiogram (ECG) function, the IHRN feature proactively monitors heart rhythms suggestive of atrial fibrillation (AFib — a type of arrhythmia), right from the wrist.

“We’re excited to announce that Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification, designed to help millions of people around the world who may not be aware of a potential heart risk, has been cleared by the FDA,” Hon Pak, Vice President and Head of the Digital Health Team, MX Business at Samsung Electronics, said in a statement.

    MS Education Academy

As cardiovascular disease remains one of the world’s leading causes of death, the company said to help users better understand their heart health Galaxy Watch offers tools such as the Samsung BioActive Sensor, including on-demand ECG recording and HR Alert function that detects abnormally high or low heart rates.

The addition of the new IHRN feature enables Galaxy Watch users to monitor another aspect of their health.

Once activated in the Samsung Health Monitor app, the IHRN feature will check for irregular heart rhythms in the background via Galaxy Watch’s BioActive Sensor.

If a certain number of consecutive measurements are irregular, Galaxy Watch then alerts the user to possible AFib activity and prompts them to take an ECG with their watch for a more accurate measurement, according to the company.

The Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification feature will be available as part of the newly announced One UI 5 Watch, coming first to the upcoming Galaxy Watch devices later this year and later expanding to previous editions.

King Charles III’s coronation: Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs feature on Royal Mail stamp

    [ad_1]

London: A stamp depicting Sikhs, Hindus, Muslims and their places of worship feature on one of the four stamps issued by the Royal Mail to mark the coronation of King Charles III on May 6.

Captioned “Diversity and Community”, the stamp reflects a multi-faith community and the cultural diversity of contemporary British society, a news release stated.

The stamp features figures representing the Jewish, Islamic, Christian, Sikh, Hindu and Buddhist religions and is representative of all faiths and none.

    MS Education Academy

“The background shows aspects of both rural and urban Britain and includes some of the many different places of worship that are found around the United Kingdom,” the release noted.

Presented in a miniature sheet, the stamps illustrate the Coronation ceremony and the traditional street party, as well as some of the causes His Majesty has dedicated his years of public service to.

This includes cultural diversity and community, the global ties of the Commonwealth, which he now leads, and sustainability and biodiversity.

This is only the third time in history that Royal Mail has issued stamps to mark a Coronation. The previous two occasions were for King George VI in 1937 and Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.

“Royal Mail is proud to issue this set of commemorative stamps which celebrate the Coronation, and some of the causes which His Majesty has championed throughout his many years of public service,” Simon Thompson, Chief Executive of Royal Mail, said. “This is only the third time we have issued Coronation stamps and I am delighted that they mark the start of a new reign and a new chapter in our history,” Thompson added.

The stamps were designed by Atelier Works and feature newly commissioned wood engravings by British artist Andrew Davidson.

Royal Mail will also be applying a special postmark to stamped mail to mark the event. The postmark will run from April 28 until May 10.

Snapchat sees rise in negative reviews as users slam My AI feature

    [ad_1]

San Francisco: Snapchat’s AI chatbot — ‘My AI’, which is powered by OpenAI’s GPT technology, has received negative user reviews since its global launch last week.

Initially available only to subscribers, the AI chatbot is now prominently placed at the top of the app’s Chat tab, allowing users to ask it questions and receive immediate responses. However, the feature’s performance has failed to impress users worldwide, as evidenced by their critical feedback, reports TechCrunch.

According to data from app intelligence firm Sensor Tower, the average App Store review in the US was 1.67, with 75 per cent of reviews being one-star.

    MS Education Academy

In comparison, the average US App Store review for Snapchat in Q1 2023 was 3.05, with only 35 per cent of reviews being one star.

Moreover, the report said that the number of daily reviews has also increased by five times over the last week.

Apptopia, another app data provider, reports a similar trend.

Its findings revealed that ‘AI’ was the top keyword in Snapchat’s App Store reviews over the previous seven days, with 2,973 mentions.

The firm has assigned the term an ‘Impact Score’ of -9.2. This Impact Score is a weighted index that ranges from -10 to +10 and measures the impact of a term on sentiment, the report mentioned.

According to Apptopia, Snapchat received approximately three times the number of one-star ratings than its usual amount on April 20, 2023, the day after the global release of My AI was announced.

WhatsApp’s new feature allows adding descriptions to forwarded messages

    [ad_1]

San Francisco: Meta-owned WhatsApp has released a new feature, allowing users to add descriptions to forwarded images, videos, GIFs, and documents on Android, which is currently available to some beta testers.

According to WABetaInfo, this feature can come in handy if the current caption doesn’t accurately describe the image or if you want to add a different description.

By removing the existing caption and replacing it with your own, the new description will be sent as a separate message. This will help ensure that the recipients know that it doesn’t belong to the original message.

    MS Education Academy

Users now will be able to add more context to the forwarded media they send, as this will enable them to provide a brief explanation of why they forwarded the media, and also share their thoughts, opinions, or feelings about the content.

Moreover, the report said that after installing this update, some users may experience issues when viewing status updates and downloading videos.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp has rolled out the “companion mode” feature to all beta testers in its latest update on Android.

Earlier, the companion mode was only available to a select group of beta testers.

This feature, an extension of multi-device support, has been designed to allow users to link their existing WhatsApp account to another mobile phone.

  • Full strength SC should not be aberration but regular feature: CJI Chandrachud

Full strength SC should not be aberration but regular feature: CJI Chandrachud

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Chief Justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud has said a Supreme Court functioning at its full strength should not be an “aberration” but a “regular feature” and asked the in-house think tank –Center for Research and Planning (CRP)– to collect data of top 50 judges in the country for selection as future apex court judges.

With the swearing-in of Justices Rajesh Bindal and Aravind Kumar, on February 13, this year, the top court got the full strength of 34 judges including the CJI.

The CRP was set up in 2018 by the then CJI, Ranjan Gogoi, to strengthen the knowledge infrastructure of Supreme Court and, apart from research, the think tank is mandated to focus on outreach that includes explaining key decisions of the SC as well as its contribution to law and justice, besides the working of courts.

    MS Education Academy

The CJI was speaking at a function organised by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on Tuesday to felicitate justices Dipankar Datta, Pankaj Mithal, Sanjay Karol, Sanjay Kumar, Ahsanuddin Amanullah, Manoj Mishra, Rajesh Bindal and Aravind Kumar for their recent induction as apex court judges.

The top court faces the prospect of six judges retiring this year.

“One of my missions has been to ensure that a full-strength Supreme Court is not an aberration but a regular feature of the Supreme Court. There is absolutely no justification or reason for the Collegium to keep even a single vacancy unfilled in the Supreme Court and that will be my mission for the future as well,” the CJI said.

He also said that CRP has been directed to collect data of the top 50 judges in the country for selection as future Supreme Court judges and this will assist the Permanent Secretariat of the collegium which deals with judicial appointments.

“The CRP has some extraordinarily talented young people including young judicial officers who I have recruited. It is headed by an officer from the Punjab and Haryana High Court, a young dalit student…,” he said.

This collection of data was never done, he said, adding the collegiums will now have the judgements and their numbers.

“The idea is to promote a sense of objectivity in the work which the Collegium does. So the CRP will now merge its activities with the permanent Secretariat of the CJI,” he said.

He said, as of today, all apex court judges have been appointed between 2006 and 2011 as judges of the High Courts, and the sum total of their cumulative experience as judges works to about 121 years.

“121 years, 13 states, one of the union territories. So this gives you an idea of the diversity and the depth of the experience which our colleagues bring to the bench,” Justice Chandrachud said.

  • WhatsApp’s new feature to add, edit contacts within app on Android

WhatsApp’s new feature to add, edit contacts within app on Android

    [ad_1]

San Francisco: Meta-owned Whatsapp has introduced a new feature – “manage contacts within the app”, allowing users to add and edit contacts without leaving the app on Android.

The ability to add and edit contacts within WhatsApp for Android is now available for some beta testers using the latest beta version, and it will roll out to even more users in the coming days, according to WABetaInfo.

Users can check the availability of the feature on their devices by opening the contact list within WhatsApp and selecting the “New Contact” option.

    MS Education Academy

If the “New contact” option is available, it means the feature is available and they can add contacts without leaving WhatsApp.

Moreover, users can also add unknown numbers to their contacts list when they reach others on WhatsApp, without switching to the contacts app, said the report.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new feature, which will allow users to share their status updates to Facebook stories without leaving the app.

Earlier, users could share status updates to Facebook stories, but they had to go through the extra step of manually sharing the update each time they posted something new.

But now, due to this new feature, the process may be automatic for certain status updates users choose, when the option is enabled.

Microsoft adds green screen feature in teams

    [ad_1]

San Francisco: Microsoft has added a green screen feature in Teams, which will provide an enhanced virtual background effect during meetings.

“Microsoft Teams now supports a green screen feature which provides an enhanced virtual background effect. Green screen improves the sharpness and definition of the virtual background effect around your face, head, ears, and hair. It also allows you to show a prop or other object in your hand to be more visible to other meeting participants,” Jan Steberl, Microsoft Teams program manager, said in a blogpost.

Moreover, the company said that the green screen will require a solid colour screen or a background wall behind users.A

    MS Education Academy

“The screen or background wall must be flat without stains or other irregularities. Users must apply a background effect in Teams meetings to enable the green screen effect and should carefully select the backdrop colour so that the effect is applied correctly and better quality is achieved,” Microsoft said.

The green screen feature is available now for everyone in the public preview channel of Microsoft Teams.

The company also mentioned that the feature is only supported on Windows and macOS devices with Intel chips.

Meanwhile, Microsoft has rolled out ‘Avatars’ in a public preview in Teams.

“Avatars for Microsoft Teams offers an alternative to the current binary option of video or no video,” the tech giant said in a blogpost.

  • iPhone 17 Pro may feature under-display Face ID tech

iPhone 17 Pro may feature under-display Face ID tech

    [ad_1]

San Francisco: The under-display Face ID technology will reportedly debut on Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro, which will become the first iPhone to feature such technology.

According to display analyst Ross Young, the under-display ‘Face ID’ technology will still be accompanied by a circular cutout for the front-facing camera, reports MacRumors.

This implementation is anticipated to last until 2027’s ‘Pro’ iPhone models, which will also integrate the camera under the display for a true ‘all-screen’ experience.

    MS Education Academy

Moreover, the report said that Young’s original roadmap, published in May 2022, differs from this forecast.

Earlier, he predicted that the iPhone 16 Pro versions released in 2024 would be the first to include under-panel Face ID technology.

Last month, Young said that this one-year delay was due to “sensor issues”.

The two display cutouts that presently comprise the Dynamic Island will apparently remain unchanged across three successive ‘Pro’ iPhone generations.

Young also stated that the standard iPhone 17 models will include ProMotion, which is presently only available on Apple’s high-end devices, according to the report.

Meanwhile, Apple is reportedly working on a MacBook Air model which will feature a 13.4-inch OLED display.

Ross Young claimed that the new model will come with a slightly smaller display as compared to the existing MacBook Air with a 13.6-inch LCD panel.
