  • G-20 Summit: Farooq Abdullah Alleges ‘Jammu Being Ignored’

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: National Conference president and Member Parliament from Srinagar Dr Farooq Abdullah on Monday said it is unfortunate that G20 meetings are being conducted in Kashmir and Ladakh and not in Jammu.

Abdullah lashed out at the government for ignoring Jammu in the upcoming G-20 event.

“Centre has avoided Jammu and I am surprised that none of the leaders from BJP is speaking about it. Is Jammu being taken for granted or do they think that it is in their pocket? Even those who chanted ‘Jammu and Dodra’ raised voices on not holding meeting in Jammu,” he said.

Asked about the residential facilities for non-locals in Jammu, the NC president termed it “an effort to end the Dogra language and culture”.

“If outsiders are settled here, identity of dogras will vanish. People from outside will take our jobs and land,” he added.

Speaking to the media persons in Jammu, Abdullah further said the party would neither skip any of the elections nor beg for holding the exercise in J&K. He was responding to a question on the speculations on holding Panchayat elections in the Union Territory.

“It is good if panchayat elections will take place; that is the basic democracy,” Farooq said, adding, “Whether it is panchayat or DDC elections, we will contest all and won’t skip any; but we also won’t beg for holding the polls.”

Speaking about the joint opposition platform against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Farooq Abdullah said, “I have no magical lamp to predict opposition unity ahead of 2024 polls, but we are trying”.

Reacting over former J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik’s support for the abrogation of Article 370 and his remarks on the Pulwama attack, Abdullah said, “Satya Pal Malik himself acknowledged that the Pulwama incident was their mistake and that they did not provide five aircraft for the transportation of force personnel.”

On the recent Poonch attack, he said that even after the abrogation of Article 370, “terrorism” has not ended.

Protect secular countenance from dangers of communalism: Farooq Abdullah to J-K people

    [ad_1]

Jammu: National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah on Sunday asked people of Jammu and Kashmir to protect the country’s secular countenance from the dangers of “communalism and hate politics”.

“Secularism is one of the philosophical pillars of our party and in contemporary times the idea of secularism is of utmost relevance as new clouds of fears, apprehensions and uncertainties are gathering over the nation’s social horizon.

“I see no way of achieving anything in J-K without a lasting unity between different sections of our society,” Abdullah said.

The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister was speaking at the 31st annual Gurmat Samagam near Peer Baba here.

Appreciating Sevak Paramjit Singh Wazir and the entire Gurmat Samagam organizing body for their efforts towards fostering unity and amity among people, he said communal frenzy has no place in this globalized world.

“Societies which are infested with communalism cannot grow. People have to keep guard against attempts at inciting passions on religious issues, especially in the run-up to elections,” the Lok Sabha MP from Srinagar said.

Abdullah said people of Jammu and Kashmir have to forge solidarities, irrespective of their caste, creed, religion and region to undo injustices perpetrated on them.

“The people of J-K are facing similar issues in the form of unemployment, inflation, and poverty. These formidable challenges require us to work together in the right direction,” the NC leader said.

Extolling people of the Union territory for their secular legacy, Abdullah said “the need of the hour is to strengthen this heirloom of brotherhood and unity which we have inherited from our ancestors.”

  • JK Must Unite Against Forces Working To Undermine Its Interests, Says Farooq Abdullah

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: Dr Farooq Abdullah, the National Conference (NC) President and Srinagar MP, addressed party members at the Nawa-e-Subha party headquarters in Srinagar on Saturday. He cautioned the public against the efforts of those working to weaken Jammu and Kashmir from within. In attendance were several NC figures, including General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, Addl General Secretary Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal among others.

In a statement issued, Dr. Farooq Abdullah cautioned the functionaries about the forces that are working against the interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He said, “It is up to us to understand the consequences of dividing our voices. Any misstep at this juncture would have far-reaching consequences. They do not want the genuine representative voices of J&K to be heard. Having real and representative voices in place makes it more difficult for them to pursue reckless experimentation in the region.”

Dr Farooq called for increasing the party’s outreach to the people and stated, “Our workers should knock on every door and make people aware of the challenges facing the region. The party’s vision and mission must reach every household. We currently see the emergence of political parties and leaders in every corner of Kashmir. However, the political vacuum created by the decisions of August 2019 cannot be filled by such airdropped leaders. Only a representative government can instill faith in the hearts of the people and meet this challenge.” (KNO)

Farooq Abdullah’s remarks on Poonch terror attack unacceptable: BJP

    [ad_1]

Jammu: A day after National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah asked security agencies not to harass innocents during their operation against the perpetrators of a recent terror attack in Poonch, the BJP on Sunday said the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister’s remarks are unacceptable as those could hamper the probe.

The saffron party also said people should also understand the “ill motives” of the NC leadership, which is trying to create a wedge between communities by misusing such critical situations.

“Abdullah accused investigation agencies of harassing common people in the name of the Poonch terror attack probe. He should not mislead people and rather ask them to join the probe to punish the culprits as soon as possible,” senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kavinder Gupta said here.

Five Army personnel were killed and one was seriously injured after their vehicle was attacked by terrorists in Poonch on Thursday. The soldiers were from a Rashtriya Rifles unit deployed for counter-terror operations.

“They (security agencies) have started operations in Pooch. They should not arrest innocent people. It was their mistake, they should not harass innocent people. It is wrong and it should be avoided,” Abdullah said on Saturday.

On Friday, the NC president had said the top security officials in Jammu and Kashmir should look into the lapses that led to the killing of the soldiers.

“The area (where the attack took place) is closer to the border. There must be a security issue which they need to check. There has been a mistake somewhere, they should look into it,” he had said.

Gupta said the NC leadership should ponder for a while that central agencies are probing the case of a terror attack in which five Army bravehearts have given the supreme sacrifice.

“The unfounded statements given by Abdullah in context of the Poonch attack are unacceptable as these could hamper the investigation and have the potential to alienate people from the mainstream,” he said.

The former Jammu and Kashmir deputy chief minister also said people should understand the “ill motives” of the NC leadership, which is trying to create a wedge between communities by misusing such critical situations.

“Those who have any knowledge about the terror strike in Poonch should come forward and become part of the probe as five countrymen have lost their precious lives while performing their duties,” he said.

Dr Farooq said, “I see no way of achieving anything in JK without a lasting unity between different sections of our society. • Reconsider Shifting Of DIET, NCERT Offices: Farooq Abdullah

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: National Conference President and Member of the Parliament from Srinagar, Dr Farooq Abdullah has asked the Lieutenant Governor administration to reconsider shifting of DIET and JK-NCERT offices to the Government Boys High School premises in Sonwar.

According to a press note, Consequent to meeting a delegation of aggrieved locals led by the In Charge Constituency, Lal Chowk Ahsan Pardesi, Dr Farooq Abdullah wrote to the LG Sinha, asking him to reconsider the decision in view of the searing resentment from the locals.

“The delegation of locals from Indiranagar, Sonwar and Batwara met me yesterday at our Party Headquarters in Srinagar. It was brought to my notice that the offices of DIET and J&K SCERT are being shifted by the Education Department to the Government Boys High School premises, Sonwar Srinagar. It was stated that shifting of the said offices will not only hamper the academic as well as extracurricular activities of the students there, but is also going to affect the upgradation of the school to the Higher Secondary level,” the letter reads.

He further noted, “In addition to the above, the main cause of resentment by the locals against this decision of the government seems their apprehension that the ground of the said school, which is being used as a play field by the youth of the area since last fifty years, will not be available to them anymore for sports activities.”

Seeking immediate intervention of the LG into the issue, he said that the decision if implemented will have a negative impact on the overall psyche of the youngsters.
