8-yr-old boy murdered in Hyderabad, family suspect human sacrifice

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: An eight-year-old boy was brutally murdered in Hyderabad in what his family has suspected to be a case of human sacrifice. But the police said they have no evidence of it.

The body of Abdul Wahid was found in a drain in Moosapet early Friday.

The boy went missing on Thursday from his house in Allauddin Koti area of Sanath Nagar and his family had lodged a complaint with the police.

    MS Education Academy

Police have arrested Imran, a transgender, and four others for the murder. The victim’s family ransacked his house and claimed to have found indications of a human sacrifice.

However, the police said the boy was murdered over a financial dispute between Imran and the boy’s father Waseem Khan, who runs a business of readymade garments.

After the boy went missing on Thursday evening, his father had lodged a complaint with the police. Based on CCTV footage in the area, police arrested Imran, who confessed to killing the boy and throwing the body in a drain.

According to the victim’s family, Imran had asked the boy to fetch ORS. When the boy, who was fasting, went to Imran’s house to give the ORS packet, the latter caught hold of him.

The accused strangled him to death by forcibly dipping his head in the bucket filled with water. After confirming the child had died, Imran, with the help of an auto-rickshaw driver, stuffed the body in the water bucket and a bag and threw it in the drain.

The murder led to high tension in the area.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Srinivas Rao said dispute over financial matters led to the murder. He, however, said if the victim’s family suspects it to be a case of human sacrifice, they will probe the case from that angle as well.

Minister for animal husbandry T. Srinivas Yadav visited the areas.

He clarified that it was not a case of human sacrifice but assured the victim’s family that culprits will not be spared.

He said a fast track court will be constituted to ensure speedy trial and punishment.

  • HC allows family to alienate property already notified, to treat terminally ill members

HC allows family to alienate property already notified, to treat terminally ill members

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: A family living in the city has been allowed by the High Court of Bengaluru to alienate a part of their property even though it has already been notified for acquisition.

The Court’s exceptional order came as three of the family members are cancer patients who need timely treatment.

Justice Krishna S Dixit in his judgement on March 27 said, “In the exceptional circumstances of this case, denying relief to terminally ailing citizens, especially when their property in question is the only means of holding the body and soul together by securing medical treatment, would render the constitutional guarantee to life a mere farce.

    MS Education Academy

“To put it in the words of late Antonin Scalia of the US Supreme Court, the Constitution will be nothing more than a ‘parchment guarantee’. Therefore, petitioners need to be permitted to alienate or encumber a reasonable portion of the property that is still in the initial process of acquisition so that they can keep their life boat afloat.”

Allowing the family to alienate 50 percent of the property, the HC in its judgment said, “If the petitioners are not permitted to encumber or alienate the subject property which is their only source of income, from which the required medical treatment can be hopefully bought, they may fall prey to the predatory disease of the kind; thus, the long pendency of acquisition process itself would imperil their life unless some ‘exit strategy’ is worked out within the framework of the law consistent with the requirement of justice of the times, in which petitioners are placed by the conspiracy of circumstances beyond their control.”

Five members of the family had approached the HC seeking permission to alienate their property of 2 acres and 3 guntas of land which was notified for acquisition under the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Act.

The petition was filed “since the funds are urgently needed for the medical treatment of some of them who are suffering from the hereditary terminal disease i.e., cancer of varying stages.”

Ruling in their favour, the HC said, “Where the life of a citizen depends upon a certain property and the same is being taken away in an acquisition process, though lawfully launched, the delayed accomplishment of the said process and the delay that would eventually be brooked in the payment of compensation till such accomplishment happens, in the given circumstances of the case, would metaphorically amount to taking away the ‘oxygen mask’ from the gasping patient in the Intensive Care Unit.”

The five people who approached the court seeking relief are a 72-year-old woman and her four children. The woman and her two sons are suffering from cancer.

The only daughter is taking care of them, and the 2 acre 3 guntas of property was the only source of income for the family.

The counsel for Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) informed the court that the acquisition process was delayed due to disputes with other property owners and could not be speeded up.

The buyers of the property would have the right to claim compensation from KIADB when the acquisiton is complete.

“The buyers/mortgagees shall have right to claim compensation or its enhancement, should acquisition of the property be accomplished in due course and in the case of delayed acquisition, to lay a claim for interest,” the HC said.

  • I’m reduced to dust, spare my family, pleads gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad

I’m reduced to dust, spare my family, pleads gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: “I am totally reduced to dust, but please don’t trouble the women and children of my family now,” gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad told reporters from inside a police van on Wednesday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s “mafiaaon ko mitti me mila denge” warning probably playing on his mind.

The 60-year-old former Samajwadi Party MLA, who faces more than 100 cases in Uttar Pradesh, was taken from the Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad to a prison in Prayagraj, more than 1000 kms away, by road in connection with the Umesh Pal murder case.

The police convoy taking Ahmad to Prayagraj left the Sabarmati Jail on Tuesday evening and entered into the Uttar Pradesh border from Jhansi at around 8.45 am. The convoy reached the Naini Central Jail in Prayagraj around 6 pm.

    MS Education Academy

While he was on the way, he spoke to the mediapersons from inside the police van. He pleaded the government to spare his family members, who are co-accused in several cases.

“Hum aapke jariye government se kehna chahte hain, bulkul mitti me mil gaye hain ab hamari auraoton aur bachchon ko pareshan na karein. (I want to tell the government through you (the media) that I am totally reduced to dust, but please don’t trouble the women and children of my family now,” Ahmad told a news channel from inside his police van between Jhansi and Prayagraj.

He will be produced before a court in Prayagraj on Thursday in the Umesh Pal murder case.

After Umesh Pal, a key witness in the 2005 murder of former BSP MLA Raju Pal in which Ahmad is an accused, was shot dead outside his residence in Prayagraj on February 24 this year Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had said “mafiaaon ko mitti me mila denge (will reduce the mafia to dust)”.

“Mafiagiri toh pahle hi samapth ho gyi, ab toh ragada ja raha hai. Mafia-giri has already ended, now I am being hounded,” Ahmad said, when asked about his criminal acts.

Ahmad last month moved the Supreme Court for protection, claiming he and his family have been falsely implicated as accused in the Umesh Pal murder case in Prayagraj and he may be killed in a fake encounter by the Uttar Pradesh Police.

Asked about his son Asad, who is also wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case, Ahmad said, “How would I know, I am in jail.”

Earlier, when his convoy was in Madhya Pradesh, Ahmad claimed he was being harassed in the Sabarmati Central Jail in Gujarat.

“My family is ruined. I am safe because of you,” he told the member of the press.

“I have not telephoned anyone from there (inside the jail) as jammers were installed there. I have not hatched any conspiracy and am behind bars for the last six years,” he said.

After Umesh Pal and his two police security guards were killed, his wife Jaya Pal filed a complaint against Ahmad, his brother Ashraf, wife Shaista Parveen, two sons, aides Guddu Muslim and Ghulam, and nine others.

The Uttar Pradesh Police had on March 26 also taken Ahmad from the Sabarmati jail to Prayagraj to produce him in a court. On March 28, the court there had sentenced Ahmad and two others to life imprisonment in the 2006 Umesh Pal kidnapping case.

Ahmad was brought back to the high-security jail in Gujarat in a UP police van on March 29, after a nearly 24-hour-long road journey from Prayagraj.

In 2006, Atiq Ahmad and his aides abducted Umesh Pal and forced him to give a statement in court in their favour. Umesh Pal had registered a complaint in this regard.

The Supreme Court had in April 2019 directed that Ahmad be shifted to a high-security jail in Gujarat after he was accused of orchestrating the kidnapping and assault of a real estate businessman Mohit Jaiswal while in jail.

  • Antilia case: Threatening ‘most strongly guarded family’ unthinkable, says Waze

Antilia case: Threatening ‘most strongly guarded family’ unthinkable, says Waze

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Industrialist Mukesh Ambani and his kin are the “most strongly guarded private family of India” and “threatening” them with “unexplodable” explosives is one of the “silliest” things to do and under no circumstance he can think of committing such a crime, former policeman Sachin Waze has said in his fresh bail plea filed before a Mumbai court in the Antilia bomb scare case.

Waze, currently lodged in jail, is a key accused in the case of recovery of an explosives -laden SUV from near Ambani’s house, Antilia, in February 2021, and the subsequent murder of Thane businessman Mansukh Hiran, whose vehicle was used in the crime.

He has moved the bail application before a special NIA (National Investigation Agency) court, saying the entire case against him “is based on bald allegations with inadmissible material” that cannot be relied upon at any stage to prosecute him.

    MS Education Academy

The court asked the prosecution to file its reply on Waze’s plea and adjourned the matter to April 26.

His plea said as a citizen of India, Waze has the highest regards for Ambani and his family members for their contribution in growth of the Indian economy.

As a police officer, the applicant (Waze) is fully aware that the Ambanis are the “most strongly guarded private family” of India, thus “threatening” them that, too, with certain “unexplodable” low-quality explosives coupled with irrelevant anonymous note is one of the most silly things one could ever do, the bail plea said.

Under no circumstances the applicant could even think of committing such a “silly” crime, it added.

There was no material on record in form of statement to suggest anyone, including the Ambani family members, was in fear of death as alleged by the prosecution, said the former assistant police inspector (API), who was dismissed from service in May 2021 after his arrest.

Even if the prosecution’s case is assumed to be true without admitting the same, such an activity would not amount to an “act of terror” as contemplated under the UAPA (Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act), Waze’s application claimed.

The former API is currently in judicial custody and lodged at Taloja jail in neighbouring Navi Mumbai.

On February 25, 2021, an explosives-laden SUV was found near industrialist Ambani’s residence in south Mumbai. Hiran, who had said he was in possession of the SUV before it was allegedly stolen, was found dead in a creek in neighbouring Thane on March 5, 2021.

Besides Waze, a few more police officials and some private individuals are named as accused in the high-profile case.

  • Sunil Gavaskar’s bravery against a lynch mob helped save lives of taxi driver and his family

Sunil Gavaskar’s bravery against a lynch mob helped save lives of taxi driver and his family

    [ad_1]

Sunil Gavaskar used to be called the Little Master during his playing days and could face bouncers from dreaded fast bowlers like Andy Roberts, Michael Holding, Dennis Lillee and many others without flinching. During the communal riots in Mumbai in 1992-93 he showed his courage in a different way outside the cricket field. Following the demolition of the Babri Masjid, the entire city was engulfed in flames of communal carnage.

One day the former India captain witnessed an act of violence against a hapless taxi driver and his family. The family belonging to the minority community was travelling along the road when their vehicle was stopped by a murderous mob. They beat up the driver and were preparing to lynch all the family members including children. Gavaskar was standing on the balcony of his building when he saw what was happening on the street below.

He shouted to his wife to inform the police and then rushed downstairs without any weapon in his hands except his raw courage. His wife not only told the police but also informed other residents of the building that her husband had gone out to save innocent lives. She asked them to also go and help out. A few of them showed the courage to follow Gavaskar’s example and rushed downstairs.

    MS Education Academy

But Gavaskar was the first to arrive at the scene. He told the rioters: “Whatever you are thinking of doing to this man and his family, you must do it to me first. I will not step out of the way.” The violent mob knew who Gavaskar was. The Indian captain was too famous a personality to go unrecognised. Seeing the cricketer’s determination they hesitated. They could not muster the courage to fight with a world famous cricket player.

When a few other residents of the building also arrived and took their positions beside Gavaskar, the would-be murderers realised that things would not go their way. After venting their frustration by shouting abuse at the taxi driver and his family members, they melted away and left the scene. The driver was clearly overwhelmed at this close shave and thanked Gavaskar and his neighbours profusely. Finally Gavaskar himself advised the man to leave the scene at once and reach his home safely.

Sunil Gavaskar never mentioned the incident thereafter to anyone. But his son Rohan, who was also a good cricketer, related the tale at an awards function which had been arranged by the Sports Journalists Association of Mumbai. Heaping praise on his father’s batting skills and determination on the cricket field, Rohan Gavaskar also told the gathering about his father’s bravery and what had transpired during the riots.

Between December 1992 and January 1993, it is estimated that more than 900 people lost their lives in Mumbai. This country needs more eminent people who have the courage and commitment towards peace that Sunil Gavaskar displayed that day. If our celebrities show this kind of fearlessness then many others will follow their example and plenty of innocent lives will be saved whenever such conflicts arise.
