New Delhi: India’s foreign exchange reserves fell by $8.3 billion to $566.95 billion in the week ended February 10 its biggest weekly fall in 11 months.

According to data released by RBI on Friday, the reserves are at their lowest level since January 6, 2023.

  • Global smartphone revenue fall by 9% in 2022: Report

Global smartphone revenue fall by 9% in 2022: Report

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The global smartphone revenue declined by 9 percent, amounting to $409 billion in 2022, the lowest since 2017, a new report has said.

According to Counterpoint Research, the global smartphone market declined by 18 percent (year-over-year) to reach 304 million units in Q4 2022.

“The smartphone market remained under pressure in the fourth quarter of 2022 as the cost-of-living crisis, shortage in the labor market, and a decline in consumers’ purchasing power resulted in double-digit declines in the shipments of each of the top five smartphone players,” said Senior Analyst Harmeet Singh Walia.

Moreover, Apple achieved an all-time high revenue share of 48 percent in 2022, and also captured the highest-ever operating profit share of 85 percent.

“Having proficiently managed its production problems, Apple was able to weather a year already marred by economic and geopolitical turmoil better than other major smartphone players,” said Research Director Jeff Fieldhack.

Chinese smartphone players suffered from domestic lockdowns for much of the year in addition to facing global economic and geopolitical difficulties, said the report.

As a result, the shipments of Xiaomi, OPPO, and Vivo fell by more than 20 percent each.

Despite offering premium phones at aggressive margins, Chinese brands have yet to break into the premium market and have been unable to fully capitalize on Huawei’s decline, the report added.

  • Share market crash almost led to the fall of Union govt: Mamata

Share market crash almost led to the fall of Union govt: Mamata

    [ad_1]

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday claimed that on the day of the Union Budget on Wednesday, the Union government virtually was on the verge of collapse because of the share market crash.

“The government was on the verge of collapse. Desperate calls were made to some parties to provide funds to that person whose share prices were going down fast,” the Chief Minister claimed at a public rally in East Burdwan district on Thursday.

However, she did not name anybody in this connection.

“I know exactly who all were approached for providing funds. But I do not want to take any names since that would make their lives miserable. At least six individuals were called up. Some were asked to pay around Rs 30,000 crore, some Rs 20,000 crore and some Rs 10,000 crore to that individual whose companies’ share prices fell. How will such a government, which does not have any planning, continue in the long run,” Banerjee asked.

The Chief Minister also termed the income tax relief proposed in the Union Budget 2023-24 as nothing but eye-wash.

“On one hand there were announcements for tax reliefs, and on the other hand the existing concessions on investments made were denied. This is like giving Rs 2 after deducting Rs 2.50,” Banerjee said.

Reacting to her comments, BJP’s national Vice-President and Lok Sabha MP Dilip Ghosh said that the popular Budget presented on Thursday has become a nightmare for the Chief Minister due to which she is making such ‘imaginary’ claims about the collapse of the Union government.

“But she will not be able to fool the people for a long time by making such claims. She is saying such things out of sheer anger and frustration,” Ghosh said.

Adani Green to be renamed to Adani Red after massive share price fall

    [ad_1]

Adani Enterprises has decided not to proceed with its fully subscribed Follow-on Public Offer (FPO), the conglomerate said in a statement late on Wednesday, hours after the shares of the firm nosedived 28.45% to close at 2,128.70 on the BSE. Adani Greens too witnessed over 30% price fall in its share price.

Sources suggest that in order to be transparent with its shareholder, Adani Group has decided to rename Adani Greens to Adani Red. “This will be morally incorrect to keep the name Adani Greens when it is all red. Once we are back in green we will rename it back to Adani Greens” said the CEO of Adani Greens (now Adani Red), Vineet Jain.

Finance Expert, Yogendra Yadav has suggested Gautam Adani to start fund raising activity with him and the collection can be shared equally as Yogendra Yadav can help him raising funds. Yogendra Yadav isn’t the first one to offer help to Gautam Adani, Saket Gokhale too has offered financial tips to Gautam Adani. Reportedly, Saket Gokhale has suggested Future and Options to Gautam Adani in Adani Group companies.

Adani stock fall: LIC, SBI ‘lost over Rs 78k cr’ in market cap, FM still on ‘mute mode’, says Cong

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Congress Saturday questioned the “silence” of the Union finance minister and probe agencies after LIC and SBI “lost over Rs 78,000 crore” in market capitalisation of their shares due to exposure in Adani Group.

LIC and SBI continue to invest in the Adani group even after the Hindenburg research report alleged share price manipulation and financial misappropriation by the group, Congress general secretary Randeep Surjewala claimed.

“LIC is public money! Post Hindenburg Report, the value of LIC investment in Adani Group shares have fallen from Rs 77,000 Crore to Rs 53,000 crore — loss of Rs 23,500 crore.

“Also, LIC shares have lost Rs 22,442 Crore. Why is LIC still investing Rs 300 crore in Adani Group,” Surjewala asked.

The Congress leader claimed that after the publication of the report, the SBI share’s market cap has declined by a whopping Rs 54,618 crore.

Also, the loan exposure of SBI and other banks to Adani Group is Rs 81,200 crore, he claimed.

“The question is, why are SBI Employees Pension Fund and SBI Life still investing Rs 225 crore in Adani Group,” Surjewala asked.

The Rajya Sabha MP also claimed that between January 24 and 27, the SBI and LIC lost a market cap of Rs 78,118 crore in value of their shares alone.

“The loan exposure of SBI and Invest Value decline of LIC in Adani Group is in addition thereto. Yet… RBI, SEBI, ED, SFIO, CBI, and the FM remain on ‘mute’ mode,” Surjewala said in a series of tweets.

The Congress leader has earlier said that elsewhere “the prime minister would be asked to explain, the finance minister would be sacked and a full investigation would have been ordered.”

The Hindenburg Report has pointed to the alleged manipulation of stock price by the Adani Group and alleged financial irregularities. The Adani Group has denied the allegations and termed it a campaign to defame the company ahead of its follow on a public issue.

Hamirpur: As many as 150 people in Rangas, Kandrola, and Jol-Sappad panchayats of the Nadaun sub-division of Hamirpur district fell ill allegedly after consuming contaminated water.

The drinking water was being supplied from a drinking water scheme from the nearby khads.

According to reports, people from a dozen villages, including Banh, Jandgi Gujran, Jandali Rajputan, Panyala, Pathiyalu, Niyati, Rangas Chowki Haar, Thain and Sankar have been affected by the outbreak of water-borne diseases and the number is expected to go up.

Patients from these villages were complaining of vomiting and diarrhoea for the last three days, alleging that consuming contaminated water led to the problem.

Patients are being treated and water samples have been collected and sent for examination. The reason behind the spread of diarrhoea will be known after the report comes in, he said.

Chief Medical Officer (Hamirpur) RK Agnihotri said that efforts are afoot to provide proper treatment to the people who have fallen ill.

District Health Officer Sanjay Jagota has advised the people to drink boiled water till the disease is controlled and said that Chlorine tablets were also being distributed to ensure the cleanliness of the water sources from where the water is supplied to these villages.

The Asha workers are also going door-to-door collecting details of the patients and instructing them to take precautions.

Ilam Din, a member of Rangas Panchayat, said that he started getting calls from villagers on Saturday morning and it seems that more than 150 people are suffering from stomach-related diseases.

Similar complaints are also being reported from the adjoining Kandrola panchayat.

Fandi Khan, former deputy head of Rangas gram panchayat, said the number of patients could be more. The condition of the elderly people there is bad and no team of the health department has reached the area.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who is also the MLA from Naudan, has directed the district administration and the health department to take proper care of the patients and ensure that there was no shortage of medicines and other items.
