Unveiling the truth: A ‘Kerala Story’ rooted in facts

    [ad_1]

Kerala, the southernmost state of India, is currently in the headlines over the movie ‘The Kerala Story’ which made several controversial claims.

However, as per another ‘Kerala Story’ rooted in facts, the state has always been known for its high literacy rate, progressive outlook, and social indicators. In recent years, Kerala has emerged as a hub of non-resident Keralites (NRKs) who have been contributing significantly to the state’s economy.

Non-resident Keralites contribute 34 pc of all NRI remittances

In 2020, NRK remittances stood at 2.3 lakh crores, which is 34 percent of all NRI remittances.

    MS Education Academy

The per capita income of Kerala is 60 percent higher than the rest of India, and only 0.71 percent of Keralites are below the poverty line, whereas the national average is 22 percent.

Kerala’s literacy rate is 96 percent, which is much higher than the national average of 77 percent. Moreover, the infant mortality rate in Kerala is six, which is far less than BJP-ruled states such as Assam, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.

Claims by ‘The Kerala Story’ movie

The recently released movie, “The Kerala Story,” claimed that Kerala women are forced to convert to Islam and join ISIS. The original claim made by the movie’s trailer was that 32,000 Kerala women were forced to convert to Islam and join ISIS. However, as the controversy erupted over the claim, the number changed to three. Ever since the release of its trailer, ‘The Kerala Story’ has been in the news due to its alleged communal content.

The film, starring Adah Sharma, created a major controversy when it claimed that 32,000 women had left the state. As a result, a petition was filed before the Kerala High Court seeking a ban on the screening of the film.

Reviews of the movie have been overwhelmingly negative, with critics calling it “distorted,” “melodramatic and manipulative,” “ghastly,” “poorly made rant,” and “steeped in damned lies and comically exaggerated propaganda.”

  • India trashes USCIRF report, calls it misrepresentation of facts

India trashes USCIRF report, calls it misrepresentation of facts

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: India on Tuesday categorically trashed as “biased” and “motivated” a report by the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) that alleged “severe violations” of religious freedom in the country.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said the Commission continues to regurgitate such comments and India rejects the “misrepresentation of facts” which only serves to “discredit USCIRF itself”.

He also asked USCIRF to develop a better understanding of India, its plurality and its democratic ethos.

    MS Education Academy

“The US Commission on International Religious Freedom continues to regurgitate biased and motivated comments about India, this time in its 2023 annual report,” he said.

“We reject such misrepresentation of facts which only serves to discredit USCIRF itself,” Bagchi added.

“We would urge USCIRF to desist from such efforts and develop a better understanding of India, its plurality, its democratic ethos and its constitutional mechanisms,” he said.

In its annual report on religious freedom, the USCIRF asked the US State Department to designate India as a “country of particular concern” on the status of religious freedom along with several other nations.

The USCIRF has been making similar recommendations to the State Department since 2020, which have not been accepted.

The recommendations of USCIRF are not mandatory for the State Department.

In its India section of the latest report, the USCIRF alleged that in 2022, religious freedom conditions in India continued to worsen.

The US Commission also urged the Biden administration to impose targeted sanctions on Indian government agencies and officials responsible for “severe violations” of religious freedom in the country by freezing their assets.

It also recommended that Congress raise the issue of religious freedom during US-India bilateral meetings and hold hearings on it.

  • ‘CBI ignored key facts in Viveka murder case’, says Avinash Reddy

‘CBI ignored key facts in Viveka murder case’, says Avinash Reddy

    [ad_1]

Kadapa: Kadapa MP, Y.S. Avinash Reddy, whose father Y.S. Bhaskar Reddy was on Sunday arrested by the CBI in former minister Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy’s murder case, alleged that ignoring some key facts in the case, the CBI was projecting them as the accused.

He claimed that Vivekananda Reddy’s son-in-law knew about murder but he did not inform the police. The MP claimed that the CBI did not question the slain leader’s son-in-law about suppressing the information.

Avinash Reddy, who rushed to Kadapa from Hyderabad after learning about his father’s arrest, said the investigation should be based on facts and not to target individuals.

    MS Education Academy

He said the new investigating officials of the CBI were doing the same thing which earlier officers had done. He said they had already brought this to the notice of the higher-ups.

The YSR Congress Party MP, who is cousin of Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, said though Dastagiri (Shaik Dastagiri, one of the accused in the case) murdered Vivekananda Reddy, the CBI officials made him an approver and released him on bail.

The Lok Sabha member alleged that the CBI did not take into account the statement of Dastagiri or watchman Ranganna.

He said the CBI officials and Vivekananda Reddy’s daughter Suneetha were taking the probe into a particular direction.

“We will uphold the good and we will prove our innocence,” he said, adding that they are ready to face any probe.

The Kadapa MP said truth and justice should prevail in the case but unfortunately the CBI has stooped to this level by ignoring facts and giving importance to small things.

Avinash Reddy claimed that the CBI did not probe the disappearance of stamp paper from the house of Vivekananda Reddy and also did not take into consideration the letter written by the slain leader.

He reiterated that Vivekananda Reddy had changed his name to Sheikh Mohammed Akbar in 2010 to marry another woman and that he had a son Shaenshah from second wife. He claimed that Vivekananda Reddy wanted to give his property to second wife and that round seals and documents relating to this were found in his house. He wondered why the CBI was not probing the missing stamp papers.

  • Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Fan’ clocks 7 years, check out interesting facts about the film

Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Fan’ clocks 7 years, check out interesting facts about the film

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Superstar Shah Rukh Khan does not shy away from experimenting with roles. He began his tinsel-town journey with Deewana in 1992 and went on to portray a gamut of characters. He even tried his hand at playing a dual role in films and ‘Fan’ is one of them.

Helmed by Maneesh Sharma, ‘Fan’ came out in theatres in 2016.

The film did not work at the box office but the audience and critics laud the actor for bringing something different to the table.

SRK plays two roles in Fan, one enabled by the use of makeup and CGI. The story follows Gaurav (Shah Rukh), a young man whose world revolves around the mega movie star Aryan Khanna (also Shah Rukh) or God as he refers to him. From Delhi, young Gaurav embarks on a journey to the city of dreams, Mumbai, in order to wish his God a happy birthday. When things don’t go according to plan, Gaurav’s love and passion for Khanna become a dangerous obsession.

As ‘Fan’ completed seven years since it was released, let’s revisit some interesting facts about the film.

The film’s logo was made up of 100 pictures of real-life fans of Shah Rukh. Basically, it comprises profile photos of over 100 lucky fans, who won a contest that the entire team had run before the release of the film.

The film had no songs. The team only made one promotional song called ‘Jabra Fan’
If you are an SRK fan, then don’t forget to do Jabra hook step on the completion of the film’s seven years.

    ANI 20230415044009

The Mannat you see in the movie is not, in reality, SRK’s house. The makers wanted to feature SRK’s mansion Mannat in the film but due to security reasons, the mansion was recreated in Film City.

If reports are to be believed, Fan is the first ever Bollywood film to be shot in Madame Tussauds Museum, London.

    ANI 20230415044211

It was not easy to get the look of Gaurav, a man in his 20s. Apparently, he had to undergo 3D scanning in the US. International make-up artist Greg Cannom created the desired look of Gaurav in the film.

    ANI 20230415043949

Some scenes for the film included real footage that was shot for SRK’s birthday in 2014 and 2015.

    ANI 20230415044246

Prior to ‘Fan’, SRK played a double role in ‘Duplicate’, ‘Paheli’ and ‘Don’ among others.
In the upcoming months, the superstar, who is basking in the success of Pathaan’, will be seen in ‘Jawan’ and ‘Dunki’.

Hyderabad: In a major development, the inquiry committee of the Board of Intermediate Education has revealed disturbing facts in the sensational issue of the suicide of Intermediate first-year student Sathvik in his classroom at Sri Chaitanya junior college’s Narsingi branch a couple of days back.

It was found that Sathvik was not a student of the Narsingi branch of the Sri Chaitanya junior college. The office of New York Attorney General Letitia James says former President Donald Trump and three of his adult children lied in the answers they submitted to the court in response to James’ $250 million lawsuit accusing them and the Trump Organization of large-scale financial fraud.

Both the former president his children “falsely deny facts they have admitted in other proceedings,” deny knowing things “ that are plainly within their knowledge,” and use defenses “repeatedly rejected by this Court as frivolous and without merit,” Kevin Wallace, senior enforcement counsel in the Attorney General’s office, said in a letter to New York Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron.

James’ office is seeking a pre-trial conference to work out fact from fiction and to “sanction Defendants and their counsel,” for the false claims, according to the letter.
