Andhra urges Centre to extend SC status to those converting to Christianity

    [ad_1]

Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh Assembly on Friday passed two resolutions, one urging the Centre to include the Boya/Valmiki community in the list of the Scheduled Tribes, and second to extend Scheduled Caste status to members of the community who converted to Christianity.

Earlier, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy assured the Assembly that the inclusion of the Boya/Valmiki community in the list of the Scheduled Tribes would not affect the STs living in the agency areas in the state.

He sought to allay the fears that the inclusion of the Boya/Valmiki community people living in the Kurnool, Kadapa, Anantapur, and Chittoor districts into the ST list will reduce the quota of the STs of the agency areas in government jobs or educational institutions as zoning system is in force as per the six-point formula.

The inclusion may have only negligible impact on the Group 1 jobs which come under the non-zoning category. It becomes negligible as only 386 Group 1 jobs were notified in the last 10 years and the 6 per cent reservation only amounts to a meager 21 or 22 posts, he said, adding it only means negligible.

The one-man Commission, headed by Samuel Anand Kumar, studied the social and economic conditions of the Boyas in the four districts and the ST Commission, also agreed with this assessment, said the Chief Minister.

Government jobs in the zoning system and districts constitute 99 per of the total jobs and the STs of the agency areas would suffer no loss because of the possible inclusion, he asserted, asking them not to believe the false propaganda being carried out in a section of the media on this.

He said the resolution was introduced in the House requesting the Centre to include the Boya/Valmiki community in the list of the Scheduled Tribes as per the promise given to the community during his Padayatra.

On another resolution that sought approval of the House to request the Centre to extend Scheduled Caste status to members of the Scheduled Caste community who converted to Christianity, the Chief Minister said that the economic and social status of the people doesn’t change automatically just because they convert to another religion.

Sharjah: Businesses must obtain special permits to extend working hours in Ramzan

    [ad_1]

Abu Dhabi: The Sharjah municipality on Tuesday announced the start of issuing permits to extend working hours after midnight during the holy month of Ramzan for commercial establishments, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.

The municipality provides these services as part of its preparations for the holy month and to facilitate these institutions by giving them the opportunity to carry out their business activities late at night.

Restaurants, bakeries and cafeterias are exempt from this requirement as they can extend their hours after midnight without a permit.

During the holy month of Ramzan, engineering contractors are not allowed to obtain work permits after midnight.

This permits can be obtained from dedicated service channels including Sharjah municipality website.

On March 9, Sharjah municipality announced new rules for the operation and supply of food during fasting days of delicatessens.

Telangana: Congress vows to extend govt benefits to tenant farmers

    [ad_1]

Karimnagar: The Congress on Friday promised to extend government benefits to tenant farmers in Telangana, besides setting up land tribunals in the state.

Speaking to reporters near Karimnagar, AICC General Secretary in-charge of communications Jairam Ramesh said about 15 lakh tenant farmers in the state are not getting government benefits like crop insurance.

“Congress says that all government programmes be implemented for tenant farmers also,” he told the media.

Ramesh, who listed out five principles for the benefit of farmers, said land tribunals would be set up in all 33 districts of the state.

Congress would also undertake land survey in the state in two years if it comes to power.

Observing that there are 125 laws related to land, he said Congress promises that one comprehensive law would be made related to lands.

  • Sensex, Nifty extend winning run to 3rd day as financial, energy shares advance

Sensex, Nifty extend winning run to 3rd day as financial, energy shares advance

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Benchmark Sensex and Nifty closed higher for a third session in a row on Wednesday as fag-end buying in banking, financial and oil stocks helped the indices rebound from early lows amid a bearish trend in global equity markets.

Covering-up of short positions by bears supported a late recovery in stocks and helped wipe off losses, traders said. However, a weak rupee against major rivals overseas weighed on market sentiment and restricted gains, they added.

In a largely subdued session, the 30-share BSE Sensex ended 123.63 points or 0.21 per cent higher at 60,348.09 as 17 of its constituents gained and 13 declined. The barometer opened lower and stayed negative for most part of the trading session due to losses in Asian markets.

Fag-end buying in select index heavyweights helped the index to pare all the losses and settle in the green. During the session, the index touched a high of 60,402.85.

The broader NSE Nifty settled higher by 42.95 points or 0.24 per cent at 17,754.40. Nifty made a negative start and fell by more than 100 points during the day to a low of 17,602.25.

IndusInd Bank was the biggest gainer on the Sensex chart, rising 4.75 per cent, followed by M&M, L&T, NTPC, ITC, Ultra Cement, Tata Steel, Maruti and SBI.

In contrast, Bajaj Finance, Tech Mahindra, Infosys and Sun Pharma were among the losers, shedding up to 2.30 per cent.

In the broader market, the BSE midcap gauge rose 0.61 per cent, and the smallcap index gained 0.28 per cent.

Among the sectoral indices, utilities rose 1.91 per cent, power gained 1.79 per cent, capital goods by 1.23 per cent, and auto by 0.95 per cent.

Realty, metal, consumer durable, IT and healthcare were among the laggards.

“Domestic equities opened gap down in line with global markets post the hawkish commentary from US Fed Chair Jerome Powell. But value buying at lower levels led the markets to reverse their losses and close in green,” Siddhartha Khemka, Head – Retail Research, at Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd said.

The Indian equities despite negative global sentiment witnessed a sharp rebound from the lower end. The Nifty index remains in a buy mode as long as it holds the support of 17,500 on the downside where fresh put writing has been observed, said Kunal Shah, Senior Technical & Derivative Analyst at LKP Securities.

“The global market has fallen back into the grip of uncertainty as the Fed chief signalled the possibility of a prolonged and faster rate hike, contradicting a dovish comment made by another Fed official last week.

“The market now anticipates a 50 bps rate hike, which has pushed the dollar index to a three-month high. However, a strong recovery was seen in the domestic market towards the end of the day, which kept the bulls on the move,” according to Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services.

Going ahead, the market is likely to continue with its volatility till the next US Fed interest rate decision outcome (due later this month), where investors are now building in expectation of a 50-bps rate hike.

As per the Fed Chair, the ultimate rate hike is likely to be higher than previously anticipated given the stubborn inflation. Till there is clarity on the interest rate front, the market is likely to be volatile in a broader range, Khemka said.

Elsewhere in Asia, markets in Shanghai, Seoul and Hong Kong ended with losses, while Tokyo settled in the green.

Equity exchanges in Europe were trading with losses in the afternoon session. The US markets had ended significantly lower in the overnight session.

The rupee slipped 13 paise to close at 82.05 (provisional) against the US dollar on Wednesday. International oil benchmark Brent crude was trading 0.16 per cent lower at USD 83.16 per barrel.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net buyers in capital markets as they bought shares worth Rs 3,671.56 crore on Monday, according to exchange data.

Govt to extend all cooperation to Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee: Khattar

    [ad_1]

Chandigarh: The Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee will manage the historic gurdwaras in the state and the government will extend all cooperation and assistance, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Wednesday.

“…If the Haryana Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee needs any cooperation from the (state) government, including construction of educational institutions and hospitals, it will be provided,” Khattar said.

Last year, the Supreme Court upheld the constitutional validity of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara (Management) Act, 2014, under which a separate committee was formed to manage gurdwaras in Haryana.

However, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee — the apex religious body of Sikhs — has rejected the committee.

Khattar was speaking after paying obeisance at Sri Thada Sahib Gurdwara in Yamunanagar, according to an official statement issued here.

Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee chief Baba Karmjit Singh felicitated Khattar with a ‘siropa (robe of honour)’.

During the occasion, Khattar also extended his greetings on International Women’s Day.

  • Named a way to extend the life of a million Muscovites

Named a way to extend the life of a million Muscovites

    [ad_1]

Rakova: a project of proactive dispensary dynamic observation was launched in Moscow

All adult polyclinics in Moscow have launched a unique project for proactive dispensary dynamic monitoring, which will help increase the life expectancy of Muscovites with chronic diseases and significantly improve its quality. Anastasia Rakova, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development, spoke about this.

Proactive dynamic monitoring implies monitoring the patient’s condition not from appointment to appointment, but constantly, in dynamics. If doctors see in the electronic medical record the fact of calling an ambulance or a doctor at home, they will immediately invite the patient to an appointment.

Specially trained medical assistants constantly keep in touch with Muscovites. They should engage people in their health care, promote responsible attitude to medical advice and prescriptions, and help with appointments and research.

In fact, we are creating a system of caring for the patient’s health, where the key links are the patient himself, the doctor and the doctor’s assistant. There are currently 400 Physician Assistants on staff, and if necessary, we will increase the number of such specialists to 600.

    Anastasia RakovaVice Mayor of Moscow

The vice-mayor emphasized that control over the condition, timely intake of drugs and the introduction of healthy habits allows a person to live a full life. Now about a million Muscovites with chronic diseases are under proactive dispensary follow-up for nine nosologies. They were determined on the basis of an analysis of the main causes of death at home. Thus, the program included such diseases as type II diabetes mellitus, hypercholesterolemia, arterial hypertension, coronary heart disease and myocardial infarction, atrial fibrillation and flutter, chronic heart failure and others. For patients with two or more chronic diseases, a unified dispensary observation program is provided with a mandatory consultation of narrow specialists.

As part of the project, each patient receives an individual monitoring program with scheduled dispensary appointments, mandatory examinations and consultations of narrow specialists. If necessary, the doctor can make his own adjustments. Before each appointment and examination, the patient receives an SMS notification. The Dispensary Observation digital service, which operates on the basis of EMIAS, helps doctors manage patients.

Everything is displayed in the new section of the electronic medical record “My dispensary observation”: from the name of the doctor to the appointments. Muscovites also have the opportunity to download their dispensary observation program in PDF format. Patients can also enter their health indicators into the electronic medical record.

“The electronic medical record and dispensary observation program allows doctors and nurses to have access to patient information in real time, which makes it possible to quickly respond to any changes in the patient’s health. The project has great potential and makes a significant contribution to improving the quality of care for patients with chronic diseases,” said Pavel Gulyaev, chief physician of Diagnostic Center No. 5.

Earlier, Vice Mayor Anastasia Rakova said that since 2023, dispensary observation is included in the list of free services under the CHI policy. For medical institutions, a separate tariff for comprehensive dispensary observation is introduced in addition to per capita funding, so that they are interested in managing patients with chronic diseases.

  • Bolsonaro wants to extend his stay in Florida

Bolsonaro wants to extend his stay in Florida

    [ad_1]

The Financial Times reports that Bolsonaro is on an A-1 diplomatic visa, which is reserved for diplomats and heads of state.

Bolsonaro left Brazil for Florida in late December after he lost reelection to leftist rival Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and has been staying at a home near Disney World in Orlando. Fans and supporters have frequently waited outside his Orlando-area residence to catch a glimpse or to greet him with food and words of praise. He was also spotted wandering around a local grocery store and eating at a KFC, sparking online jokes on Twitter.

But in early January, thousands of Bolsonaro supporters stormed government buildings in Brazil to protest the country’s October election results. The scene was eerily similar to the Jan. 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol.

In the aftermath of the Brazilian protests, lawmakers in the U.S. called for Bolsonaro’s ouster from America.

Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D.-N.Y.) and Joaquin Castro (D-Texas) both called on the Biden administration to kick Bolsonaro out of the country while Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) told POLITICO the U.S. should comply with any valid extradition request to return the former Brazilian president.

In a letter dated Jan. 12 to President Joe Biden, almost 50 U.S. House members called on the president to examine whether Bolsonaro can legitimately stay in the country. The lawmakers also asked Biden to prevent Bolsonaro from taking refuge here.

“His peddling of disinformation, his failure to call on supporters to accept the results of the election, and his active calls to mobilize against democratic institutions incited thousands of protestors to storm government buildings and to participate in the violent acts on January 8 against Brazil’s pillars of democracy,” the letter stated.
