Ranbir Kapoor expresses wish to work with Kriti Sanon

Mumbai: Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor is keen on working opposite actress Kriti Sanon.
During the promotions of his recent film, ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar’, Ranbir Kapoor was questioned about which actor and actress he would like to work with next.
To this, the actor mentioned Kriti’s name as one actress he really wants to work with.
‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar’ is directed by Luv Ranjan. It stars Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in their first film together, with Anubhav Singh Bassi, Dimple Kapadia and Boney Kapoor in pivotal supporting roles.
The film was shot extensively in Delhi, Mumbai, Spain and Mauritius.
On the work front, Kriti is gearing up for two mega releases — ‘Adipurush’ opposite Prabhas and ‘Ganapath’ opposite Tiger Shroff. She also has ‘The Crew’ and an untitled film with Shahid Kapoor in the pipeline.

Air India CEO expresses concern over rising cases of unruly passenger behaviour

New Delhi: Expressing concern over the rising number of instances involving unruly behaviours by passengers, Air India CEO Campbell Wilson has called for concerted industry efforts to contain the problem.
Recently, Wilson had informed that incidents surrounding unruly behaviour by inebriated passengers are quite frequent, adding that the airline has now got strict and is reporting all such cases of unruly behaviours.
Wilson had said that the airline has learnt lessons and it could have reacted better to the issues surrounding the ‘peeing’ incident which occurred in November last year.
The Air India CEO said that the airline has realised the importance of reporting all such incidents. Stating that Air India is now investing more in technology, the CEO had told the media that there are many instances where the airline’s crew is at the receiving end when a drunk passenger misbehaves.
Talking to a news organisation, Wilson said that in the last six weeks alone, Air India had witnessed four incidents where people have either assaulted or threatened to physically assault its crew, and the airline is taking a zero-tolerance line on that.
He said that a rise in such cases globally had led even the industry body, International Air Transport Association (IATA), to take a serious view of the situation and call for industry-wide action to stem it.
In the instance of the ‘peeing’ incident onboard AI-102 operating between New York and Delhi on November 26, 2022, the concerned cabin crew and one pilot have been issued show-cause notices and were de-rostered pending investigation.
While addressing a virtual conference last week, the Air India CEO had said that the airline has enormous potential and efforts are on to make the group a significant international player.

Wilson said that Tata group-owned Air India’s order for a record 470 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing will be worth nearly $70 billion. The CEO also said that the process of integration of Vistara with Air India is underway and is now awaiting approval from the regulatory bodies.

Shah expresses displeasure over factionalism in Telangana BJP

Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah in a meeting held with BJP’s Telangana leaders and the national leaders associated with the state’s Assembly election campaign expressed strong displeasure over the ongoing factionalism in the state unit.
Leaders, including party’s national organisation Secretary B.L. Santhosh, General Secretary Sunil Bansal, who monitors and coordinates the work of the party in Telangana, state in-charge and national General Secretary Tarun Chugh, state chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, D.K. Aruna, national President of BJP OBC Morcha K. Laxman among others were present in the meeting held at party J.P. Nadda’s residence here on Tuesday.
Telangana is the second state after Karnataka in South India where the saffron party is confident of winning, due to which the BJP high command has been busy preparing extensively for the Legislative Assembly elections to be held later this year.
Sources said that Shah instructed state chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar to refrain from mutual factionalism and disputes and work together with all leaders through better coordination.
He asked that the leaders of Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS), who had joined the BJP, be included in the decisions and programmes of the party.
On behalf of the BJP high command, all the leaders of Telangana have been clearly asked to work under the collective leadership in the state by ending factionalism.
In order to establish better coordination among the leaders in the state, Kumar has also been instructed to hold coordination meetings.
The BJP has been engaged in inducting leaders from other parties, especially strong leaders of the ruling BRS, into its fold.

Stalin expresses disappointment over Gadkari’s ‘non-cooperation’ remarks

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Saturday wrote to Union Minister for Highways and Roads Nitin Gadkari, expressing disappointment on the BJP leader’s statement “for completion of road projects, the Central government requires the cooperation of the state government”.
“The stretch of the road in NH-4 from Chennai to Ranipet about which Dayanidhi Maran had asked a question, provides vital connectivity from Chennai ports to the industrial clusters in Kancheepuram, Vellore, Hosur, Ranipet and Krishnagiri,” Stalin said in his letter.
Gadkari’s statement “the Central government required the cooperation of the state governments to complete the projects”, was in response to a question raised in the Parliament by DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran.
“The road was very bad and that he had to plan recent visits to these towns by train.”
Stalin said: “The request from our MP was very pointed but your reply was very general and non-committal and we are disappointed at this reply.”
“The poor road conditions and the difficulties faced by road users have caused a major dent in the reputation of NHAI, which otherwise has been doing an excellent job in the state,” Stalin said and requested Gadkari, to issue instructions to the NHAI officials to expedite the six-lane work, and to maintain the road stretch in good condition.
He said that the NHAI was earlier doing excellent work in Tamil Nadu and presently a dent in the reputation has happened about NHAI among the people of the state.
The Chief Minister also said that it was unfortunate that the impression that the state government was not cooperating with NHAI has been specifically mentioned in the Minister’s reply in parliament.

Odisha CM expresses concern on reduction of MGNREGS, food security in Union Budget

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday expressed concern over reduction of funds for MGNREGS and food security scheme in the Union Budget for 2023-24.
Patnaik said the budget has some good aspects which needs to be appreciated and there are some concerns which need to be looked into, and addressed.
“I have concerns regarding the drastic reduction of funds for MGNREGS. This will hit the poor people. The reduction in food security budget along with reduction in procurement will hit the poor people as well as farmers,” he said.
About Rs 80,000 crores was spent on procurement in 2021-22 while only about Rs 60,000 crores is kept in this budget. This will cause serious problems in selling crops at Minimum Support Price (MSP), he said.
While in 2021-22 an amount of Rs 2 lakh crores was spent under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), in this budget only Rs 1.37 lakh crore is kept for this purpose, pointed out the CM.
Patnaik also said that there has been a decrease or no growth in health and education sectors.
He further said that the budget provision for Ayushman Bharat scheme is Rs 7,200 crore for the entire country while Odisha spends almost about Rs 2,400 crore on Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) in private facilities alone.
“If we include government facilities, it would be around Rs 6,000 crores annually under the BSKY. Health is an important priority for our state and we believe in investing and in sincere efforts,” he said.

Slamming the Odisha BJP leaders, who are pressing hard for implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in Odisha, Patnaik said he now hopes that the BJP state leadership will stop hoodwinking the people of Odisha.
Speaking about the good steps taken by the Centre in the Budget, he said the increased capital investment, support to drinking water initiatives, and increasing rural housing will accelerate growth as well as have social impact in rural areas.
He also welcomed the Prime Minister’s thrust on millets. Stating that Odisha Millet Mission is a pioneering initiative in the country, Patnaik said he feels happy that millets have been given importance in the budget.
“The focus on new world technologies like artificial intelligence, internet of things etc. is appreciable. These are some of the good aspects of the budget. The focus on primitive tribal groups is a welcome step,” he added.

IMF expresses concern over possibility of Pak opposition creating hurdles in govt’s hard economic decisions

Islamabad: The IMF has expressed concern that Pakistan’s opposition parties might create hurdles in the way of implementing the tough economic decisions of the cash-strapped Shehbaz Sharif-led government, media reports said on Wednesday.
The views of the global lender came as a high-level delegation led by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission Chief Nathan Porter on Tuesday met Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and other officials as part of the opening session of 10-day long talks for the completion of the much-delayed programme review for a bailout package.
Porter raised the question about the implication of the opposition’s role in difficult decisions that Pakistan would have to take to avoid the default, The Express Tribune newspaper reported.
“The fund had concerns that the opposition might create some problems in the way of rolling out additional taxation measures that the government was planning to impose to revive the talks,” it quoted Porter as saying.
However, Finance Minister Dar assured the IMF mission head that the government believed in political dialogue and there was nothing to worry about.
Dar stated that the government would try to enforce additional taxes in a manner that would avoid any untoward legal and political challenges, the report said, citing sources.
The government was planning to promulgate a presidential ordinance but in case the IMF concerns remained, it might bring an act of parliament. Parliament route would take at least 14 days before the new taxes were implemented, the report said.
Pakistan signed a USD 6 billion IMF programme during Imran Khan’s government in 2019, which was increased to USD 7 billion last year.

The programme’s ninth review is currently pending with talks being held between IMF officials and the government for the release of USD 1.18 billion.
But the IMF suspended disbursements in November last year due to Pakistan’s failure to make more progress on fiscal consolidation amidst the political turmoil in the country.
As part of the tough decisions, the Pakistani government on Tuesday hiked the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) by 30 per cent and finalised a minimum of Rs 6 per unit average increase in electricity rates between now and August, according to a report in the Dawn newspaper.
During the talks, Dar assured the IMF team that Pakistan would soon roll out a plan to reduce the gas sector’s circular debt by half to around Rs700 billion.
Dar, according to the finance ministry, said that reforms were being introduced in the power sector and a high-level committee had been formed for devising modalities to offset the menace of circular debt in the gas sector.

Lakhimpur Kheri: SKM expresses shock at Ashish Mishra’s bail

New Delhi: The Samyukt Kisan Morcha on Wednesday expressed shock at the eight-week interim bail granted to Union minister Ajay Kumar Mishra’s son Ashish in the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence which claimed eight lives, and said he could “divert” and “pervert” the course of justice.
A bench of Justices Surya Kant and J K Maheshwari directed that Ashish shall not stay in Uttar Pradesh or Delhi during the interim bail period.
“Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) expresses shock and dismay at the order of interim bail of eight weeks granted to Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister Ajay Mishra, who killed four farmers and one journalist in broad daylight by running them over with his vehicle at Lakhimpur Kheri of Uttar Pradesh,” the framers’ body said in a statement.
“It is little consolation that the order stipulates that Mishra has to leave UP within one week of his release and he cannot stay in UP or NCT of Delhi,” it said.
The SKM said Ashish Mishra is a powerful politician affiliated to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and “his release will greatly intimidate witnesses and jeopardise the trial”.
“It may be kept in mind that the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government was soft pedalling the arrest and charging of Ashish Mishra and ultimately the Supreme Court had to order independent investigation and action. It can only be imagined how Mishra on-the-loose will divert and pervert the course of justice,” it said.
The farmers’ body said it had demanded swift punishment of culprits of Lakhimpur Kheri and removal of Ajay Mishra Teni from the Cabinet, but they have remained “unfulfilled”.
“SKM will keep vigil to ensure that Ajay Mishra does not start another reign of terror and humbly submits that the Supreme Court should revoke the interim bail and in any event, not extend it any further. Ashish Mishra and his father Ajay Mishra are a threat to society and they cannot be allowed to play havoc in society,” they said.

The SKM said it was happy to note that innocent farmers who were languishing in jail on account of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident have been given interim bail.
“SKM demands grant of permanent bail to the farmers and withdrawal of fake cases against them,” it said.
On October 3, 2021, eight people were killed in Lakhimpur Kheri district’s Tikunia where violence erupted when farmers were protesting against the then deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya’s visit to the area.
According to the Uttar Pradesh Police’s FIR in the case, four farmers were mowed down by an SUV in which Ashish was seated.
Following the incident, the driver of the SUV and two BJP workers were allegedly lynched by angry farmers. A journalist also died in the violence.
The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court had on July 26 last year rejected Ashish Mishra’s bail plea. He had challenged the high court’s order in the apex court.
