It is recommended to complete all necessary departmental approvals for this new building, which will provide OP, IP, and emergency services in all three blocks, and commence the construction process, a press note from the health ministry said.

The Finance and Health minister held a review with senior officials of the Health Department at Dr. BR Ambedkar’s Telangana State Secretariat on Tuesday.

On this occasion, Minister Harish Rao mentioned that the new NIMS structure, built on eight floors, will increase the total number of beds from 1,500 to 3,500. He also stated that once the recently laid foundation stone for the super speciality MCH is completed, 200 more beds will be made available, bringing the total number of beds in NIMS alone to 3,700. This expansion will provide better access to health services to the people.

The NIMS MCH works should be expedited, and apart from this, the minister directed the completion of the 200-bed super specialty MCH being constructed at Gandhi Hospital by the end of this month. If completed, it will be the first super speciality MCH in the country, he said.

‘Wake-up call’: Top Republicans sound alarm over China’s nuclear expansion

    [ad_1]

    congress homeland security 81936

“We have no time to waste in adjusting our nuclear force posture to deter both Russia and China,” the lawmakers said. “This will have to mean higher numbers and new capabilities.”

Lamborn and Fischer are the top Republicans on the Armed Services subcommittees that oversee nuclear weapons programs.

The head of U.S. Strategic Command, Gen. Anthony Cotton, told lawmakers in a letter dated Jan. 26 that the U.S. retains a larger inventory of ICBMs and nuclear warheads, but that China has exceeded the U.S. in the number of fixed and mobile land-based launchers for those missiles. The Wall Street Journal first reported the letter.

The information came in response to a December letter from Republicans Rogers, Lamborn, Fischer and then-Senate Armed Services ranking member Jim Inhofe.

The revelation is likely to only further fuel uproar in Washington over Beijing, after a Chinese surveillance balloon traversed the U.S. before it was shot down last week.

Biden administration officials are set to brief the full Senate on the balloon on Thursday. The House is also likely to soon get briefed, leaders say. And House Republicans are weighing a resolution condemning China for the flap.

China’s military modernization, including its nuclear capabilities and a potential invasion of Taiwan, have been an early focus for Republicans.

House Armed Services held its first hearing Tuesday on the threat posed by China. During the session, Rogers broached the ICBM launcher news and warned of China’s nuclear expansion, urging the U.S. to act immediately to deter Beijing.

“The [Chinese Communist Party] is rapidly expanding its nuclear capability. They have doubled their number of warheads in just 2 years,” Rogers said at the outset of Tuesday’s hearing. “We estimated it would take them a decade to do that.”

The U.S. is undertaking a long-term overhaul of all three legs of its nuclear arsenal as well as fielding new weapons introduced under the Trump administration’s 2018 nuclear blueprint.

Low-yield warheads have been deployed aboard ballistic missile-carrying submarines. Congress has also preserved funding to develop a new sea-launched nuclear cruise missile that the Biden administration sought to cancel.

Nancy Vu contributed to this report.

  • Rs 2,500 crore for Metro rail expansion in Hyderabad

Rs 2,500 crore for Metro rail expansion in Hyderabad

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Monday allocated Rs 2,500 crore for the Metro Rail project in Hyderabad including for extending metro services to the old city and for metro connectivity to the airport.

In the Budget for 2023-24 presented in the State Assembly, Rs 1,500 crore has been allocated for Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR).

The government also allocated Rs 500 crore each for extending Metro Rail services to the old city and metro connectivity to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad.

State Finance minister T. Harish Rao, in his budget speech, only elaborated on the allocation made for metro connectivity to the airport.

He noted that the number of air travelers using the international airport has been increasing day by day. The expansion facilities at the airport at a cost of Rs 7,500 crore have been taken up to meet the requirements even if the air traffic goes up to 4 crore passengers per year. He said the expanded facilities will be completed by June.

The minister said with the objective of facilitating passengers to reach the airport in the shortest possible time from different areas, it has been envisaged to extend metro rail services to the airport. This metro line will commence from Raidurg and terminate at Shamshabad Airport covering a distance of 31 km.

Recently, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao laid the foundation for metro connectivity to the airport. This project will be taken up at a cost of Rs 6,250 crore with the own resources of the State government and will be completed within the next three years, he said.

Another Rs 500 crore has been allocated for extending Hyderabad Metro Rail services to the old city. An equal amount was allocated in the Budget for the previous year but the work was not taken up.

L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad (L&TMRH) has completed the first phase of the Metro Rail project across three corridors to a total length of 69.2 km. While L. B. Nagar to Miyapur and Nagole to Raidurg corridors have been completed, Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) to Falaknuma is yet to be completed. On the third corridor, connectivity has been provided from JBS to Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) also called Imlibun.

The developer has not taken up expansion in the old city due to lack of permission. Religious and heritage structures along the proposed route in the old city and financial losses suffered by the developer and operator due to Covid-19 pandemic are cited as the reasons for the delay in construction of Metro works on the 5.5 km stretch.

The state government has still not made clear if it will fund the work in the old city on its own. The concessionaire is unlikely to fund the works as the project cost has already escalated substantially for property acquisition, shift of utilities like electricity lines, water pipelines and the construction of elevated viaducts as well as stations.

In 2021, AL&TMRHL sought the state government’s help to overcome the losses it incurred due to the pandemic.

The 73-km elevated metro is the biggest metro project in the world in public private partnership (PPP) model built at a total cost of Rs 20,000 crore.

  • Akhilesh stems resentment in SP with expansion of national executive

Akhilesh stems resentment in SP with expansion of national executive

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav, in a swift decision, has managed to stem the brewing resentment in the party cadres by making some addition in the party’s newly-constituted national executive.

Akhilesh has added four upper caste members and another backward class (OBC) leader to its national executive.

The move comes amid purported talks in some sections of the party over “under-representation of upper castes in the executive”.

Those included in the national executive are Om Prakash Singh, Arvind Singh Gope, Vinay Tiwari, Neeraj Saxena and Ram Prasad Chaudhary.

While Chaudhary is a non-Yadav OBC, the others are upper caste Hindus.

This is the third expansion of the national executive since it was first announced on January 29 afternoon. Originally, the SP’s national body had 62 members.

The same day it increased to 64 members and the executive now has 69 members.

Originally, there were 11 Yadavs, 10 Muslims, 25 non-Yadav OBCs, nine upper castes, six Dalits, a scheduled tribe, and a Christian member. Now, the number of upper caste members in the national executive has gone up to 13. There are 26 non-Yadav OBC members after the expansion.

Veteran party leader Om Prakash Singh, soon after the announcement of the executive, had tweeted his resentment when he wrote, “Yeh alag baat hai ki maine kabhi jataya nahin/magar tu yeh na samajh ki tune dil dukhaya nahin.”

Singh is a normally reticent leader, not known to air his grievances openly. His tweet sent shockwaves within the party circles and the growing resentment was communicated to the SP President.

The amendment in the executive body has now pacified the cadres and party strategists feel that in the coming months, the party would adopt a more inclusive policy.
