Inflation: It is an important factor in the exchange rate calculation. As higher the inflation, the lower the currency value, rupee depreciates with the rise in inflation. Rupee appreciates in case of a fall in inflation.
Interest rate: As global investors who look for fixed income will always get attracted to countries that offer higher interest rates, which contributes to the appreciation/depreciation of the Indian rupee.
Flow of capital: As the inflow of capital will result in a rise in demand for the rupee value, it appreciates the rupee. The opposite happens when there is a rise in the outflow of capital.
Liquidity: It is the money supply in the market. With the rise in the money supply, the rupee loses its value and it results in the depreciation of the currency. If the money supply in the market decreases, the rupee appreciates.

Current Account Deficits: It represents that a country is importing goods valued more that the goods it is exporting. This imbalance results in a fall in the value of the currency.
CAD depreciates the currency whereas, Current Account Surplus appreciates the currency.

Shopian Gunfight: Militants Escape After Brief Exchange Of Fire

SRINAGAR: After brief gunfight on Wednesday, militants managed to give slip to security forces in Chakoora area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
A top police officer said that there was a brief exchange of firing between militants and security forces.
As the firing stopped, searches were intensified at the suspected spot, where no militant was found. They might have escaped taking advantage of darkness, the officer added.
Earlier police in a tweet reported a gunfight between militants and security forces in Chakoora area of Shopian.(GNS)

2 Palestinians killed in exchange of fire with Israeli soldiers in West Bank

Ramallah: Two Palestinian militants were killed on Tuesday in an exchange of fire near an Israeli settlement northeast of the West Bank city of Nablus, Palestinian and Israeli sources said.
Palestinian sources said that the two Palestinians were identified as Saud Al-Titi, an officer with the Palestinian Authority security forces, and Mohammed Al-Bouf, who had respectively spent 14 years and seven years in Israeli prisons, Xinhua news agency reported.
The Israeli army said in a statement that two Palestinians were killed by Israeli soldiers near the village of Deir al-Khatb, northeast of Nablus, after they opened fire at the settlement of Elon Mora.

Meanwhile, two other Palestinians were injured by Israeli soldiers near the village, said Director of Ambulance and Emergency in the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Ahmed Jibril.
He said that one of them was injured in the shoulder and was taken to the hospital in Nablus, adding that the Israeli army forces prevented the PRCS ambulances from reaching the other casualty.
Israel Radio reported that the Israeli army ambushed an armed Palestinian group that opened fire toward the Elon Moreh settlement, and confiscated an M-16 firearm and a pistol from the possession of the two Palestinians who were “neutralized.”
According to official Palestinian figures, the tension between Israel and the Palestinians has killed 98 Palestinians since early January. Israeli sources said that 19 Israelis were killed in attacks carried out by Palestinians in Israel and the West Bank.

Iran, Saudi to exchange envoys after reopening embassies

Tehran: The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman has said that Iran and Saudi Arabia will exchange ambassadors after the reopening of their diplomatic missions.
Nasser Kanaani said on Monday that the Saudi team arrived in Iran on Saturday to lay the groundwork for the reopening of the kingdom’s embassy in Tehran and consulate general in the northeastern city of Mashhad, Xinhua news agency reported, citing a report by Iran’s official news agency IRNA.
He added that the Iranian delegation will soon travel to Saudi Arabia for the same purpose ahead of the scheduled reopening of Iran’s embassy in Riyadh and its consulate general and representative office to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Jeddah.

Following the signing of a joint statement by Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud in Beijing on Thursday, the two countries have practically resumed official diplomatic relations, Kanaani said.
Praising China for its “goodwill and positive approach” and “constructive role” in the normalisation of ties between Iran and Saudi Arabia, Kanaani said Beijing had helped complete the diplomatic process that started in Baghdad and Muscat, and bring about a “constructive transformation” in relations between Tehran and Riyadh.
During their meeting in Beijing on Thursday, the Iranian and Saudi foreign ministers agreed to lay the groundwork for the exchange of economic delegations from public and private sectors, and hold meetings between their joint economic commissions, according to Kanaani.
Saudi Arabia and Iran reached a deal in March to resume diplomatic relations and reopen embassies and missions in the two countries within two months.
Saudi Arabia cut diplomatic ties with Iran in 2016 in response to the attacks on Saudi diplomatic missions in Iran after the kingdom executed a Shiite cleric.

India’s foreign exchange reserves decline

Mumbai: India’s foreign exchange reserves fell to USD 578.45 billion as of March 31, down from USD 578.78 billion a week earlier, according to the Reserve Bank of India’s Weekly Statistical Supplement released on Friday.
During the prior week that ended on March 24, they rose sharply USD 5.977 billion to USD 578.778 billion, hitting an over eight-month high.
According to RBI’s latest data, India’s foreign currency assets, the biggest component of the forex reserves, fell by USD 4.38 billion to USD 509.691 billion.

Gold reserves during the latest week fell by USD 279 million to USD 45.200 billion.
At the beginning of 2022, the overall forex reserves were at about USD 633 billion. Much of the decline can be attributed to RBI’s recent intervention and a rise in the cost of imported goods.
In October 2021, the country’s foreign exchange reserves touched an all-time high of about USD 645 billion. Earlier, the forex reserves had been intermittently falling for months largely because of the RBI’s intervention in the market to defend the depreciating rupee against a surging US dollar.
Typically, the RBI, from time to time, intervenes in the market through liquidity management, including through the selling of dollars, with a view to preventing a steep depreciation in the rupee.
The RBI closely monitors the foreign exchange markets and intervenes only to maintain orderly market conditions by containing excessive volatility in the exchange rate, without reference to any pre-determined target level or band.
