Kerala: Complaint against Christian group for event on love, narcotic ‘jihad’

    [ad_1]

A complaint has been filed by the Student Islamic Organization (SIO) against Christian Association and Alliance for Social Action (CASA) for discussing topics that evoked hatred against the Muslim community in Kerala.

On February 26, CASA organised an awareness event in Pulpally, Wayanad district that spoke about ‘Love Jihad’, ‘Narcotic Jihad’ and child abuse. The audience attendance included school-going children.

Wayanad district officials Jyotish P T and A B Joy conducted the session. It shared the details of the events on its official Facebook page. It has several other posters and photos that feature campaigns against the Muslim community.

The complaint was filed by SIO Wayanad district president Muneeb N A Pulpally, who demanded strict action against those spreading communal hatred in the society.

Meanwhile, CASA Kasargod, on its official Instagram page has posted a reel that stated it will bring more ‘awareness’ towards ‘Love Jihad’, ‘Narcotic Jihad’ and child abuse and no one can stop them.

“We know what to teach our children. A Muslim Islamic organisation need not interfere. At least, we do not teach them how to cut a hand or behead a person. We will continue teaching or bringing awareness to subjects such as Love Jihad, Narcotic Jihad and child abuse around Kerala whenever we are given permission. No SIO can stop us from doing so,” CASA Kasargod stated.

  • Longtime Trump backers flock to DeSantis event

Longtime Trump backers flock to DeSantis event

A Johnson spokesperson, however, said Johnson did not intend to endorse in the primary.

“Sen. Johnson historically does not endorse in primaries and plans to continue this trend and remain impartial in 2024,” said Corinne Day, a Johnson spokesperson.

Also seen was Arizona Republican Jim Lamon, a solar energy executive and Trump donor who aggressively aligned himself with the former president during his unsuccessful 2022 Senate bid. Lamon was also involved in efforts to overturn the 2020 election results showing President Joe Biden defeated Trump. Lamon was one of 11 GOP electors who signed a document claiming to be Arizona’s legitimate electors, which was mailed to the Senate and the National Archives.

Another attendee is Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton, who was once seen as a potential Trump pick to be CIA director. Cotton, who passed on a 2024 presidential bid after laying the groundwork for a prospective campaign, on Saturday evening appeared on a DeSantis-moderated panel with conservative commentator Ann Coulter and Texas Rep. Chip Roy. Cotton, who like DeSantis entered Congress in 2013, long allied himself with Trump but broke with him when he voted to certify the 2020 election.

Mick Mulvaney, who was Trump’s acting White House chief of staff, was also seen at the DeSantis retreat. Mulvaney left the administration following the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, and he has harshly criticized the former president over his decision to wage a 2024 comeback, saying Trump is “the only Republican who could lose” the election.

And among the major figures in the Republican donor world who attended DeSantis’ event: Roy Bailey, a longtime Texas fundraiser who helped lead Trump’s campaign finance committee. The event also included several of DeSantis’ fellow governors, including Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt, who benefited from a Trump-hosted fundraiser during his reelection bid last year, and Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee, who was also backed by Trump in his 2022 reelection campaign.

“Gov. Stitt believes Ron DeSantis has done an excellent job leading as Florida’s governor, especially through COVID, supporting law enforcement, reforming education and supporting parental rights,” said Carly Atchison, a spokesperson for Stitt, who met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago last year.

The retreat comes as DeSantis is increasing his national profile. The governor is set to publish a new book on Tuesday, and this past week, he appeared before law enforcement officers in Philadelphia, New York City and Chicago. DeSantis is also benefiting from a newly launched nonprofit group that could promote his policies. Those present at the conference said DeSantis made no mention of whether he planned to run for president, though many of those in attendance said they were eager to see him do so.

On Saturday, DeSantis is to hold another panel discussion with Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, whose home state hosts the GOP’s first presidential nominating contest. A person close to Reynolds, however, said the governor did not plan to endorse in the primary. Reynolds, who chairs the Republican Governors Association, has also appeared with former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley and South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott in Iowa.

Other attendees spotted in the crowd included Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie, Utah Sen. Mike Lee and 2022 Nevada Senate candidate Adam Laxalt, a longtime DeSantis friend. Conservative commentators Coulter and Dana Loesch were also present.

The retreat caps off a major week in the Republican donor world. On Thursday evening, Trump hosted a fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago, and on Friday, several prospective presidential candidates gathered in Austin, Texas, for a donor conference organized by longtime GOP strategist Karl Rove.

  • Tennis legend Bjorn Borg leaves event after Karnataka CM runs late

Tennis legend Bjorn Borg leaves event after Karnataka CM runs late

    [ad_1]

A frustrated and irate tennis legend Bjorn Borg left India after Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai arrived nearly two hours late at an event in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

According to several media reports, the program was to honour Borg at the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSLTA) stadium.

Along with Borg, Indian tennis star Vijay Amritraj was also set to be honoured. However, the ceremony was canceled as Amritraj felt it would be ‘inappropriate’ for him to be honoured alone, the source was quoted by the Deccan Herald.

Both of them will be honoured at the CM’s office tomorrow or the day after, the report further quoted the source.

After Bommai arrived, he sat for 20 minutes to watch a match between Borg’s son Leo Borg and Taiwanese tennis player Hsu Yu-hsiou.

    Who is Bjorn Borg

Bjorn Borg is a legendary Swedish tennis player who played from 1970-1983. A teenage sensation, he became the first man in the Open Era to win 11 Grand Slam singles titles with six at the French Open and five consecutively at Wimbledon. He is the only man to achieve the Channel Slam three times.

However, he never won the US Open despite four runner-up finishes.

His rivalry with another legend John McEnroe is considered one of the best in the sport’s history. Their match at the 1980 Wimbledon final is considered one of the greatest matches ever played.

At the age of 26 Borg announced his retirement from international tennis, shocking the world. He is currently the owner of the Björn Borg fashion label and is considered second best to Calvin Klein.

Ahead of potential presidential bid, DeSantis heads to New York for law enforcement event

    [ad_1]

NEW YORK — Florida governor and potential Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis plans to travel to New York City for a law enforcement event Monday, according to a copy of an invitation obtained by POLITICO.

DeSantis, who is expected to declare his candidacy in the spring, is listed as a “special guest for a discussion on protecting Law and Order in New York,” according to the email. The event will take place early Monday morning, coinciding with the federal Presidents Day holiday.

Doors will open at 7:30 a.m. at the Privé catering hall on the South Shore of Staten Island — one of the few Republican bastions in the otherwise Democratic stronghold of New York City. Staten Island is the only one of the city’s five boroughs to support former President Donald Trump in both 2016 and 2020. It is a suburban enclave in a city of mass transit, congestion and skyscrapers, and is home to many police officers and firefighters who tend to back GOP candidates.

Reporter arrested during news event on Ohio train derailment

    [ad_1]

    train derailment ohio 71021

“I’m doing fine right now. It’s been an extremely long day,” Lambert said after his release. “No journalist expects to be arrested when you’re doing your job, and I think that’s really important that that doesn’t happen in our country.”

At the end of his news conference, DeWine said he didn’t authorize the arrest and reporters have “every right” to report during briefings.

“If someone was stopped from doing that, or told they could not do that, that was wrong,” DeWine said.

A following statement from the governor’s office said DeWine didn’t see the incident because a bank of cameras blocked his view but he did hear a “disagreement toward the back of the gymnasium.”

DeWine “has always respected the media’s right to report live before, during, and after his press briefings” the statement said.

Mike Viqueira, NewsNation’s Washington Bureau chief, called the arrest an infuriating violation of the First Amendment.

The Washington, D.C.-based Lambert could still face charges of disorderly conduct and criminal trespassing, NewsNation said.

The Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office administration said the arrest was made by officers from the East Palestine Police Department. A message seeking comment from the department was not immediately returned.

About 50 train cars, including 10 carrying hazardous materials, derailed in a fiery crash Friday night on the edge of East Palestine. Federal investigators say a mechanical issue with a rail car axle caused the derailment.

Nearby residents in Ohio and neighboring Pennsylvania were ordered to evacuate when authorities decided on Monday to release and burn chemicals from five tankers filled with vinyl chloride, sending hydrogen chloride and the toxic gas phosgene into the air.

At the news conference, authorities said sampling had shown air quality in the area was safe and residents could return home, although DeWine said some residents may want to wait until the air inside their homes is checked.

The news conference started more than two hours late and DeWine started speaking at the same instant Lambert had to do a live broadcast from the back of the gym, Preston Swigart, a photographer who was with Lambert, told NewsNation.

Swigart said police officers approached Lambert and asked him to stop talking. Lambert finished the live report but was then asked to leave by authorities, who tried to forcibly remove him from the event, NewsNation reported.

“From their standpoint, he didn’t obey orders,” Swigart said. “Gymnasiums are echoey and loud and sound kind of carries, so I’m guessing that they just didn’t like the fact that there was sound competing with the governor speaking, even though it was all the way at the other end of the room.”

The anchor handling the report said she heard the reporter saying, “The governor has just started speaking. I’m being told that I have to quit my report” before it was cut short.

Video captured by NewsNation affiliate WKBN-TV showed Lambert on his face on the ground being handcuffed. He was then taken outside and placed in the back of a sheriff’s patrol car.

  • John Abraham gives witty reply to fan chanting ‘SRK is back’ at Pathaan event

John Abraham gives witty reply to fan chanting ‘SRK is back’ at Pathaan event

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Actor John Abraham, who stars as the antagonist in Shah Rukh Khan’s box office blockbuster ‘Pathaan’, recently during the film’s success event wittily corrected a fan who was cheering “Shah Rukh Khan is back.”

Shah Rukh’s latest release ‘Pathaan’ has concluded the Bollywood superstar’s 4-year long hiatus and has proved to be a box-office breaker.

During the event, when one of the fans shouted ” Shah Rukh is back,” to which John gave a witty reply. He said, “Just one correction. Shah Rukh Khan isn’t back. He had just gone for a loo break.”

SRK also revealed the story behind taking a break for 4 long years to do a film.

He said, “The four, actually 2 years have some good parts and some bad parts like in all our lives because of Covid. This is exactly the same for me. I didn’t work, I wanted to be with the children. The good thing was for the first time I could see my children grow, Aryan, Suhana and AbRam. I could spend time with my family and friends. The second good thing was my last film didn’t work and people started saying that now my films.

He jokingly said “I thought of an alternative business. And thought of opening a restaurant and for that started cooking. I started cooking to open a restaurant. And thought to name it Red Chillies food eatery. Then I learned to cook Italian cuisine and that went well.”

He added, “Siddharth who loves to eat and for 10 days I made him ear pizza as he was not happy with my work. The good thing was that also when I came to know that John is doing Pathaan with me. I have never worked with him. We have done small endorsements together. John is a very old friend of mine, when I came to Mumbai we got to know each other but unfortunately we have not worked together.”

Shah Rukh continued, “Its nice to be back. I am not in a hurry to finish the film. Its always been my desire to spread happiness among people and make films to entertain. Whenever I fail to do so, nobody feels as bad as me. I am very happy that I was able to spread the happiness and especially to those who are close to my heart – Aditya Chopra and Siddharth. And those who gave me the opportunity as you will notice the film is a very big film, it will be an expensive film. But to get me and give me a chance to come at the time I was not working and allow me to be a part of this film. I will ever ever be grateful to Aditya Chopra and Siddharth. And also to Deepika. I have forgotten those 4 years in these 4 days.”

John also shared his experience working with Shah Rukh. He said, “I got to work with Shah Rukh for the first time. I don’t think he is an actor anymore he is an emotion. It is wonderful to have Shah Rukh back like this after 4 years. Earlier I felt like I was an action hero, but I think Shah Rukh Khan today is the number 1 action hero of the country. It’s going to be my biggest hit for a long time.”

John received a lot of appreciation for his negative portrayal in the film. During the event, SRK mentioned John as the backbone of the film and appreciated his work.

‘Pathaan’ is on a record-breaking run at the domestic and overseas box office as it collected Rs 542 crore gross worldwide in just 5 days.

Helmed by Siddharth Anand, ‘Pathaan’, which was released on January 25, also stars Deepika Padukone and John Abraham in the lead roles. Apart from “seeti maar” dialogues and high-octane action scenes, it’s Salman Khan’s extended cameo as Tiger that has made the film more special.

It is the fourth instalment in the YRF Spy Universe and is SRK’s comeback film after Zero (2018). The film has created history as it has overtaken SS Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali 2’ and Yash-starrer ‘KGF 2’ to become the fastest film to enter Rs 200 crore club. It collected Rs 429 crore gross worldwide in four days, said production banner Yash Raj Films (YRF) on Sunday.

Telangana HC asks state govt to conduct Republic day event at Parade grounds

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: As a pushback to the Telangana government’s call to not celebrate Republic day at Parade grounds, the state High Court on Wednesday asked the government to adhere to the Defence ministry’s formulations for the Republic day at Parade grounds.

The state government reportedly has told Raj Bhavan that it may organise the R-Day celebration separately, breaking with tradition for the second year in a row by not holding a unified formal ceremony at Secunderabad’s Parade Ground.

In 2022, owing to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, KCR decided not to hold any Republic Day celebrations at the Parade Grounds in Secunderabad.

On Thursday, Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan said that her office did not receive any communication from the government on conducting the upcoming Republic Day event.

The rift between the Telangana Governor and the KCR government has deepened over the last two years. KCR is visibly upset about the Governor delaying the passing of 8 legislative bills in the assembly.

Soundararajan, a former Tamil Nadu BJP chief, took over as Telangana governor in 2019, but her relationship with the KCR government soured within a year. BRS leaders chastised her for acting like a ‘BJP agent,’ while the governor claimed Raj Bhavan personnel were being humiliated.

(This is a breaking story. Keep refreshing for newer updates).
