  • Video: Woman with national flag painted on face denied entry into Golden Temple

Video: Woman with national flag painted on face denied entry into Golden Temple

    [ad_1]

Amritsar: A video has gone viral showing a Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) employee stopping a woman tourist with the national flag tattoo painted on her face from entering the Golden Temple, also known as the Harmandir Sahib.

She claimed that she was denied entry over the tricolour row.

The sewadar, an SGPC employee, who denied her entry, was heard purportedly saying “This is Punjab, not India” when the woman said this was the Indian flag.

    MS Education Academy

In the 40-second video clip, two people accompanying the woman were heard asking the guard “Is the Golden Temple not in India?” On being asked why the woman was not allowed to enter the holy shrine, he pointed out the flag painted on the woman’s face.

The guard also tried to stop the woman and the man accompanying her from capturing the incident on their phone.

Apologising for misbehaviour by its employees towards the visitors, SGPC General Secretary Gurcharan Grewal told the media that this is a Sikh shrine. Every religious place has its own decorum.

“We welcome everyone. We apologise if an official misbehaved. The flag on her face was not our national flag as it didn’t have Ashoka Chakra. It could have been a political flag.”

Slamming the people for criticising the SGPC on the social media, he said, “Don’t these people know that Sikhs have played a great part in India’s Independence? Will anyone tweet about who sacrificed 90 out of 100 heads for the national flag? The Sikhs are being defamed intentionally.”

  • LU student calls police after being denied entry in class for coming late

LU student calls police after being denied entry in class for coming late

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: A woman student of MA (Arabic) first year created a furore in Lucknow University (LU) when she called the police after a teacher denied her entry into the classroom for coming late.

According to reports, Prof Aslam Islahi was taking his class when the student turned up and entered the classroom in the middle of the lecture. The professor asked her to leave as he does with other students who come late to class or resort to indiscipline.

However, the woman started arguing with the teacher and later called police dialling 112, alleging that she was being harassed.

    MS Education Academy

She told police that the teacher has always been biased towards her as she belongs to a “different sect”.

This led to a heated conversation between the student and the teacher.

Hearing the commotion, students and teachers of other departments also gathered at the spot.

The police did not intervene in the matter because the student refused to give any written complaint against the teacher.

Later, the woman also left the place and refused to speak to the media persons present on the spot.

However, teachers of the Arabic department have collectively lodged a complaint at the proctor office against the student claiming that she had been giving a tough time to the faculty members with her attitude.

“We expect that the university administration will take some action against her for indiscipline,” said Islahi.

Another teacher said the student addresses teachers and officials disrespectfully and keeps pointing out flaws in everything in the department, including washrooms, syllabus and lectures.

“She even takes teachers to task if they are late for a class by a few minutes,” he added.

Proctor Rakesh Dwivedi said. “It is a sensitive matter and the said student seems to need counselling. Hence, we have requested the psychology department to extend help to her.”

  • Women not wearing hijab will be refused entry to Tehran Metro

Women not wearing hijab will be refused entry to Tehran Metro

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Hijab enforcement groups will be set up on the Tehran Metro and those not wearing hijab will be refused entry, in effect banning some women from work, as per Iranian state TV, a media report said.

The move appears to be part of a pattern of government efforts to force Iranian public bodies to take greater responsibility for enforcing the hijab, The Guardian reported.

Many Iranian women, especially in urban centres, have refused to comply with the hijab rule, in a sign that the “women, life, freedom” protests that began in September last year continue in a more individualised form, the report said.

    MS Education Academy

The latest threatening clampdown comes as girls in secondary schools in Tehran, Karaj and other cities continue to report poison attacks. At least nine schools were reported to have been attacked on Sunday. According to Iranian MP Mohammad Hassan Asefari, a government fact-finding committee said the security agencies had been unable to identify the perpetrators, while the Ministry of Health is yet to determine the nature of the poison being used.

The contrast between the urgency of the efforts to enforce the hijab and the inability of the investigators to use CCTV to identify those behind the poison attacks has infuriated opponents of the government.

The Tehran Metro Company had already announced that “in line with the demands of the noble people of Iran on the issue of hijab”, it was launching a verbal reminder project in Tehran and suburban Metro stations. But the latest pictures on Iran state TV show Metro staff barring women trying to pass through the ticket barrier without a hijab, The Guardian reported.

Masoud Darshti, the Chief Executive of Tehran and Suburbs Metro Operation Company, had announced the establishment of a chastity and hijab headquarters to issue reminders. He said his staff would be required to implement any police order, but added that he had not yet personally received the instruction formally.

Deliberate entry of Ram Navami processions in minority areas without permission: Mamata

    [ad_1]

Khejuri: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday alleged that the BJP was deliberately taking out rallies in minority areas of the state without permission.

Banerjee’s comments come a day after clashes broke out between two groups during a Ram Navami procession in Rishra and Serampore in Hooghly district.

“Why will there be Ram Navami processions for five days? You can organise several such rallies on the day it is celebrated. We will have no objection… But, do not carry arms with you,” Banerjee said at a public distribution program here at Thakurnagar Ground.

    MS Education Academy

“They (BJP) are deliberately entering minority areas with such processions without permission. Yesterday in Rishra, too, they took out rallies in which people were seen with arms,” she claimed.

Violence during Ram Navami celebrations also rocked parts of the Howrah district on Thursday and Friday, leading to the arrest of 45 people.

Tribal family denied entry at Chennai theatre; slammed online

    [ad_1]

Chaos prevailed at a popular cinema hall in Chennai, Tamil Nadu after its staff allegedly stopped a tribal family from entering its premises.

In a viral video that is being shared across social media platforms, the family, belonging to the indigenous Narikuravar community (Scheduled Tribe), was stopped at the gates by a staff member of Rohini Silver Screens even after purchasing a ticket.

They had come to watch the Silambarasan starrer Pathu Thala.

People gathered around and questioned the staff on the treatment of the family. However, the staff did not let them in.

The video soon went viral on Twitter evoking strong reactions and a call to boycott the theatre. Owing to the pressure, the theatre management issued a statement clarifying the incident.

“A woman along with children who had come with valid tickets sought entry to the cinema to watch Pathu Thala movie. As we know the movie is censored U/A by the authorities,” the statement reads.

The statement mentioned that since the children were below 12 years, the family was not permitted.

“Our ticket checking staff has denied entry on this basis to the family which had come with children aged 2,6,8 and 10 years,” the statement read.

“However, since the audience gathered turned into a frenzy and took a different perspective of the situation without full understanding, to avert any law and order problem and the same family was allowed entry to watch the movie on time,” the statement said.

Later, the theatre management released a video of the family enjoying the action flick.
