Asad Ahmed’s encounter: BJP holds encounters in name of religion, says Owaisi

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi condemned Uttar Pradesh’s governing Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday after Asad Ahmad, an accused in the murder of Umesh Pal, whose father Atiq Ahmad is also mentioned in the case, died in a police encounter.

Speaking in Telangana’s Nizamabad, he questioned whether ‘the BJP (would) also shoot those who killed Junaid and Nasir’, referring to two men reportedly slain by cow vigilantes in February; their burnt remains were discovered in an SUV in Haryana.

“Will the BJP also shoot those who murdered Junaid and Nasir? Will the BJP also carry out encounter killings of individuals responsible for the deaths of Junaid and Nasir? No, because you (the BJP) conduct encounters in the name of religion,” an enraged Owaisi said.

  • 30 Years After Student’s Death in Fake Encounter, Court Hands Life Term to Retired Policeman – Kashmir News

    [ad_1]

30 Years After Student’s Death in Fake Encounter, Court Hands Life Term to Retired Policeman

Over three decades after the death of a 21-year-old man in a fake encounter here, a local court on Friday sentenced a retired sub inspector to life imprisonment. Additional Sessions Judge Pashupatinath Mishra on Wednesday held Yudhisther Singh, the then sub inspector, guilty of killing Mukesh Johri alias Lali, on July 23, 1992 in Bada Bazar area of the city.

The court awarded life imprisonment to Singh on Friday and also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on him, government counsel Ashutosh Dubey said.

It said the fine amount will be provided to relatives of the victim.

According to police, Singh, who was posted at Thana Kotwali, claimed to have killed Lali in an encounter in self-defence. The then SI had filed a case of robbery and murderous attack against the victim.

In a report submitted by Singh, he had alleged that while returning after buying household items from Bada Bazar on the fateful day, he saw three people having a dispute with a salesman of the Pink City Wine Shop and anticipating robbery, he challenged the accused and one of them opened fire on him, but he escaped narrowly.

The SI had said that if he had not fired, the miscreants would have killed him. He said he fired at one of them with his official revolver due to which he fell down bleeding.

Singh, however, was accused of killing Lali, a second-year BA student, by the victim’s family.

Chandra Johri, the mother of the deceased, had taken refuge in the Supreme Court to file a report against Singh and others, and later the investigation was handed over to the CB-CID. “In the inquiry, it was found that Singh was not on duty at the time of the incident and misused his official revolver. The then SI had said that Lali was shot from the front, but the post-mortem examination revealed that the bullet was found in the back,” Dubey said, adding that there was no encounter and Singh deliberately fired at the victim with the intention of killing him.

On November 20, 1997, an FIR for murder was registered against Singh on the complaint letter of Inspector Sheeshpal Singh of the CB-CID.

Shut up ya Kunal: KTR speaks about Disha encounter, AIMIM

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: In an exclusive interview with popular Hindi stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra, BRS working president and state minister KTR briefly highlighted his 17-year political journey. He expressed his views on various topics such as Disha encounter, 33 percent reservation for women, and friendship with AIMIM, among other issues.

KTR said that during the Telangana agitation, KCR resigned from his Lok Sabha membership when he was in the US and reached Hyderabad without informing anyone. He joined his father’s agitation in making the Telangana dream a success.

Kunal Kamra questioned KTR over Supreme Court’s order that adjudged the Disha encounter as fake and love the flak it faced by human rights organisations, to which KTR replied that if the commission has declared it wrong.

However, he questioned why human rights leaders do not talk about human beasts who rape minors in the most brutal ways. “We are only talking about one incident in 2019, but in the last nine years, we have also punished many criminals according to the law. Now the entire system has gone under the control of the Center,” KTR said in defence.

“People say they don’t even trust the judiciary anymore. Some judges are still working honestly and there is still some trust in the judiciary because of such people.”

KTR also acknowledged the shortage of women in the Telangana government and said that there are only two women in the cabinet of 17 ministers and only six women in the 119 MLAs. He stated that 50 percent of reservations have been allotted to women in zilla parishads, municipalities and panchayats.

He said that he also wants 33 percent reservation for women in the Assembly and if needed, he is ready to leave his assembly seat for a woman official.

Kamra also posed a question to KTR over the BRS’ friendship with the AIMIM and how they have been accused of indulging in communal politics similar to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

KTR said that every party has its policies. The BRS and the AIMIM have their own opinions. However, he disagrees that the AIMIM are instrumental in dividing Muslim votes.

  • Close aide of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed held after encounter in UP

Close aide of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed held after encounter in UP

    [ad_1]

Banda: A man wanted in many criminal cases and said to be a close aide of mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed was arrested after an encounter with police in the Mataundh area here on Thursday, officials said.

The man, identified as Waheed Ahmed, sustained a bullet injury in the gunfight and was admitted to a hospital, they said.

Superintendent of Police Abhinandan told reporters here that a joint team of Mataundh police station and Special Operations Group tried to nab Waheed Ahmed near Bhuragarh but he opened fire at the police.

In retaliatory firing, he was injured and subsequently arrested, the police officer said.

Waheed Ahmed is the uncle of Arbaaz, who worked as a shooter for Atiq Ahmed and was killed in an encounter with the police in Prayagraj earlier. Arbaaz was one of the alleged shooters in the murder of Umesh Pal, according to police.

Police said they are looking if Waheed Ahmed had any role in the murder of Pal.

The SP said Waheed Ahmed is a resident of Mardan Naka locality of Banda district and is said to be close to Atiq Ahmed.

Several cases of murder and extortion are registered against him and he carried a reward of RS 50,000 on his arrest, Abhinandan said.

A few days ago, Waheed Ahmed threatened a local businessman and demanded extortion, police said.

Atiq Ahmed is currently lodged in a Gujarat prison. He is the main accused in the 2005 murder case of the then BSP legislator Raju Pal. Atiq was also recently booked in connection with the killing of Umesh Pal, a key witness in the Raju Pal murder case.

  • Atiq Ahmed should be killed in police encounter: former BJP MP

Atiq Ahmed should be killed in police encounter: former BJP MP

    [ad_1]

Ballia (UP): Former BJP MP Harinarayan Rajbhar on Thursday said gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed should be brought out of jail and killed in an encounter, adding that the gates of heaven will open for the policeman who does so.

The provocative remark comes days after Ahmed’s two alleged aides, accused in the Umesh Pal murder, were killed in separate encounters with UP Police. Police say they fired in retaliation, but the opposition Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party have expressed disquiet.

The police encounters followed the gunning down of Umesh Pal, a key witness in the murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal in 2005, and two police personnel in Prayagraj last month.

Police said Ahmed, already lodged in a Gujarat jail in connection with another case, was involved in planning the attack.

“Atiq Ahmed conspired the murder while in jail. Atiq Ahmed has killed hundreds of people and forcibly occupied the land of the poor,” Rajbhar, who was elected to Parliament in 2014 from Ghosi in Mau district, told reporters.

“Atiq Ahmed fears being killed in an encounter. There should be an encounter of all the shooters involved in the Umesh Pal murder case. An encounter of Atiq Ahmed should be carried out after bringing him out of jail. The doors of heaven will open in the future for the officer who carries out Atiq’s encounter,” he said.

Ahmed recently moved the Supreme Court, saying he feared for his life.

In the petition, he expressed the apprehension that the Uttar Pradesh Police will seek his remand in connection with the Umesh Pal murder and then stage a fake encounter while bringing him from Ahmedabad prison to Prayagraj.

Along with Ahmed, police have named his family members in the Umesh Pal case.

Rajbhar was also asked about SP general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav’s remark that Ahmed’s son will be killed in a fake encounter in the coming days.

“Ram Gopal Yadav has given birth to these criminals while in government, taught them crime. He is still speaking in support of these criminals,” the BJP leader charged.

He said the Mulayam Singh Yadav family “promotes such elements” and accused SP leaders of being “merchants of death”.

Targeting Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party (SBSP) leader Om Prakash Rajbhar, the BJP leader called him an “accomplice of criminals” and said he should be in jail.

He alleged that the SBSP chief and his sons are extorting money from businessmen and doctors.

“They are committing these crimes under police protection. If the government does not pay attention now, there is a possibility that more Prayagraj-like incidents will take place in the near future,” he said.

The SBSP has quit its alliance with the SP and appears to be inching towards the ruling BJP.

SRINAGAR: Former JK Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday took to the microblogging site Twitter to welcome the life sentence recommended for an Army captain in connection with the killing of three civilians in a staged encounter in Amshipura, Shopian in July 2020.

“Recommended punishment of life imprisonment for Captain involved in Amshipora fake encounter is a welcome step towards creating accountability in such cases. Hope an impartial probe is also ordered in Lawapora & Hyderpora encounters to prevent repetition of such ghastly incidents,” PDP Chief tweeted.

Amshipora Encounter Was Fake, Captain Given Lifer By Court Martial

SRINAGAR: An army court has recommended a life sentence for Captain Bhupendra Singh for his involvement in the killing of three civilians in a staged encounter in Amshipura, Shopian, in July 2020. The court-martial proceedings, which found that Captain Singh exceeded his powers under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), were completed in less than a year.

LG JK Manoj Sinha paying his condolences to the families of three Rajouri labourers on October 8, 2020. The trio was killed in a fake encounter in Shopian on July 18, 2020.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Jammu and Kashmir Police charged three people, including Captain Singh, for “staging a fake encounter”. Reports suggest that higher army authorities will need to confirm the sentence.

The three youths, who came from the Rajouri district of Jammu, were killed in a remote hilly village in Shopian district on July 18, 2020, and were falsely labelled as “militants”. Social media raised concerns about the killings, leading to the army forming a Court of Inquiry that found evidence that the troops had exceeded their powers under AFSPA.

The JKP’s SIT charge sheet alleges that Captain Singh provided false information to his superiors and the police about the staged encounter. The three accused allegedly destroyed evidence and spread false information as part of a criminal conspiracy aimed at receiving cash rewards, the SIT that was investigating the case in a parallel investigation had stated. However, the army denied that Captain Singh staged the encounter for a cash reward, claiming no such system exists for any acts in combat situations or otherwise in the line of duty.

During the court martial proceedings, Mohammed Yusuf, Abrar Ahmed’s father, was called upon to provide a missing report about his son. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited the families in Rajouri and conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message that the government would support them. Through a DNA test, the three youths’ identities were confirmed, and their bodies were returned to their families and buried in their native village in Rajouri.

  • Life imprisonment for army captain involved in Amshipura ‘staged’ encounter; sentence awaits confirmation

    [ad_1]

New Delhi, Mar 5: Completing general court-martial proceedings in less than a year, an Army court has recommended life imprisonment for a captain in connection with the killing of three men in a “staged” encounter in Amshipura in south Kashmir in July 2020, officials said here on Sunday.

Captain Bhoopendra Singh was subjected to court martial after a Court of Inquiry and Summary of Evidence found that troops had “exceeded” powers vested under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), they said.

The life sentence is subject to confirmation by higher army authorities, the officials said.

Declining to comment, the army sources said the process involved in such matters is still on.

The three men hailing from Rajouri district of Jammu region – Imtiyaz Ahmed, Abrar Ahmed and Mohammed Ibrar – were killed in a remote hilly village in Shopian district on July 18, 2020 and labelled as “militants”.

However, as doubts were raised on social media over the killings, the Army promptly constituted a Court of Inquiry which found prima facie evidence that the troops had “exceeded” powers vested under AFSPA.

The Court of Inquiry was followed by the Summary of Evidence, which was completed in the last week of December 2020.

The Army had issued a statement saying “the process of recording the Summary of Evidence has been completed.

“The same is being examined by the authorities concerned in consultation with legal advisors for proceeding further.” “The Indian Army is committed to the ethical conduct of operations,” it had said.

The officials said the court martial proceedings were then initiated against Captain Singh for violating the powers vested under the AFSPA and for not following the dos and don’ts of the Army as approved by the Supreme Court.

The Army had also called Mohammed Yusuf, the father of Abrar Ahmed, from Rajouri for deposing in the court martial proceedings during which he was asked to provide a missing report about his son.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police had also constituted a Special Investigation Team which filed a charge sheet against three people, including Captain Singh, for “staging a fake encounter”.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had visited the families in Rajouri in 2020 and conveyed to them Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message that the government stood with the aggrieved families and they would be taken care of with all support from the government.

The identity of the three youths was subsequently confirmed through a DNA test. The bodies were handed over to their families in Baramulla in October 2020 and buried in their native village in Rajouri.

Yusuf told PTI from Rajouri that after the killing of his son, the family was in shambles.

“The compensation of Rs 5 lakh handed over by the government has been consumed in fighting the case.

“Now his child is also growing and the promise of the government to provide a job to one of the family members is still pending,” Yusuf said.

The SIT charge sheet alleged that Captain Singh provided wrong information to his superiors and the police about the recovery made during the staged encounter.

The other two named by the police in its charge sheet are Tabish Nazir and Bilal Ahmed Lone, both civilians.

“By staging the encounter,” the three accused “have purposefully destroyed evidence or real crime that they have committed and also have (been) purposefully projecting false information as part of a criminal conspiracy hatched between them with the motive to grab” cash rewards, it said.

The army had, however, denied that its captain staged the encounter for a cash reward, saying there was no such system for its personnel for any acts in combat situations or otherwise in the line of duty.–(PTI)

CRPF Showcases ‘CSRV Vehicle’ in Awantipora Encounter

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: The modern bullet and bomb-proof vehicle introduced by CRPF that was recently deployed during a gunfight between militants and army in the Awantipora area of Kashmir on Tuesday, came under spotlight after the photograph of one such vehicle during the operation was circulated on social media.

The Hindustan Times reported, the CSRV or Critical Situation Response Vehicle can accommodate at least three commandos and be raised to reach the upper floors of a building while shielding them from the bullets, in counter insurgency operations in Jammu & Kashmir’s urban areas.

Two CSRVs were designed and developed for counter-terror operations in urban or semi-urban areas during 2018-2020, The Hindustan Times reported.

CRPF officers have two CSRVs and one of them was used in Pulwama as the two militants refused to surrender and continued to fire indiscriminately at forces.

The hard armour at CSRV’s front can also be used to break walls and provide an entry into a building.

CSRVs came under the spotlight after the photograph of one of them at the scene of Tuesday’s operation in JK’s Awantipora was circulated on social media.

Pertinent to mention, the two militants Aqib Mushtaq Bhatt and Aijaz Ahmad Bhatt blamed for the killing of a Kashmiri Pandit days earlier were shot dead in the operation in Awantipora. An army man was also killed and another was injured in the operation.

The two were hiding in a mosque and were also allegedly involved in the killing of two migrant workers last year.
