Ramzan 2023: UAE announces remote work on Fridays for public sector employees

    [ad_1]

Abu Dhabi: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday approved remote working for federal government employees on Fridays during the holy month of Ramzan.

The new directive approved by the UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan will see 70 percent of federal government employees working remotely on Fridays.

The remaining 30 percent will still be required to go to the office on Fridays, although all employees will work reduced hours during Ramzan in the UAE.

As per the same announcement, students at universities and public schools must also attend their classes remotely on Fridays, subject to physical exams that are scheduled for certain dates.

This step comes within the framework of ensuring more flexibility in official working hours, taking into account the social dimension during the holy month.

This year, Ramzan is expected to begin in the UAE on March 23, but the exact date is likely to be announced on the night of March 22 by the moon-sighting committee.

  • Ajas Residents Aghast Over ‘Casual Approach of Employees’ At Local J&K Bank Unit

    [ad_1]

    Babar Rather

Srinagar, Mar 15 (GNS): Residents of Ajas in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district are aghast over alleged lackadaisical approach of employees towards account-holders at locally setup branch of Jammu and Kashmir Bank.

A delegation of aggrieved account holders told GNS that the staff has been taking them on a ride and playing down their genuine issues.

“The bank staff is acting indifferent towards our genuine issues, be it regarding cash transactions, sanctioning of loan or any other trivial matter”, they alleged adding the bank has been instead entertaining cases of a selected group of people who act as sort of touts and thereby put the commoners into jeopardy.

Despite moving multiple representations before the authorities, we are yet to see any respite, they further said.

Despite repeated attempts, Zonal Head (Sopore) didn’t attend to any of the calls.

When contacted, PRO J&K Bank Ajaz Zargar told GNS that the people from the area should come with a formal representation to them. “We assure the grievances would be done away with at an earliest”, the official said. (GNS)

Ramzan 2023: Saudi announces working hours for govt sector employees

    [ad_1]

Riyadh: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) on Tuesday announced the Ramzan working hours for government sector employees throughout the holy month of Ramzan 2023-1444, local media reported.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD) said that Ramzan working hours should not be more than five hours.

According to Arabic daily Okaz, the ministry stated that working hours during the holy month should be from 10 am to 3 pm.

However, the ministry advised that government agencies can be flexible depending on business needs.

A two-hour window is provided in which agencies can start earlier or later than the recommended start times.

The regulations set by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development state that any government agency seeking to change the 10 am to 3 pm guidelines must notify employees of expected Ramzan work hours by March 19.

This year, Ramzan is expected to begin in the UAE on March 23, but the exact date is likely to be announced on the night of March 22 by the moon-sighting committee.

  • Meta CEO fires 10K more employees, shuts 5K additional open roles

Meta CEO fires 10K more employees, shuts 5K additional open roles

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Meta Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Tuesday announced to sack an additional 10,000 employees via several job cut rounds in the coming months.

In a Facebook post, Zuckerberg said overall, “we expect to reduce our team size by around 10,000 people and to close around 5,000 additional open roles that we haven’t yet hired” in the company’s “year of efficiency”.

In a separate filing with the US SEC, Meta said the new job cuts will lower the high end of its expense guidance for the year by $3 billion.

Over the next couple of months, organisation leaders will announce restructuring plans focused on flattening the organisations, cancelling lower priority projects, and reducing hiring rates.

“We will let recruiting team members know tomorrow whether they’re impacted. We expect to announce restructurings and layoffs in our tech groups in late April, and then our business groups in late May,” the Meta CEO said.

In a small number of cases, it may take through the end of the year to complete these changes, he added.

“Our timelines for international teams will also look different, and local leaders will follow up with more details,” said Zuckerberg.

The fresh cuts come just four months after he laid off 11,000 employees, or 13 per cent of the company, in November last year.

Zuckerberg said that after restructuring, Meta plans to lift hiring and transfer freezes in each group.

“Other relevant efficiency timelines include targeting this summer to complete our analysis from our hybrid work year of learning so we can further refine our distributed work model. We also aim to have a steady stream of developer productivity enhancements and process improvements throughout the year,” he added.

In its ‘Year of Efficiency’, Meta will make the organisation flatter by removing multiple layers of management.

“As part of this, we will ask many managers to become individual contributors. We’ll also have individual contributors report into almost every level — not just the bottom — so information flow between people doing the work and management will be faster,” Zuckerberg noted.

  • Shinde govt rattled as 1.8 mn govt employees strike for Old Pension Scheme

Shinde govt rattled as 1.8 mn govt employees strike for Old Pension Scheme

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Around 1.8 million Maharashtra government employees in various departments, schools, colleges, hospitals and other sectors on Tuesday started an indefinite strike to press for a return of the Old Pension Scheme.

Facing its biggest challenge, the 9-month old government of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis has warned of action against the striking employees while offering an olive branch to discuss and consider their demand after taking into account the financial implications.

However, the striking unions are adamant and declared that they want an immediate announcement on OPS – which was discontinued in 2005.

“We are collecting the figures, but a majority of the state government employees across departments have joined the strike and will continue till we succeed,” Government Employees Unions Steering Committee Convenor Vishwas Katkar told media persons.

The OPS was replaced by a new pension scheme in which the pension amount was deducted from the employees’ salaries, unlike the previous version.

Explaining the effect, Katkar said that in OPS, the employees use to get 50 per cent of the basic salary as pension, but in the new scheme, the amount is barely 25 per cent of the basic pay.

As the Class I and II employees are not part of the strike, there is only a partial impact on the normal working of various departments.

However, the strike has hit various government schools, colleges with teaching and non-teaching staff staying away, paramedics and nurses in hospitals, plus Class III and IV cadres remained off work.

The working was also affected in government offices in urban and rural centres and districts as a majority of the civic employees are also joining the agitation for OPS.

Nevertheless, in certain major cities like Mumbai, where the civic employees are keeping off the strike, the impact would be minimal, though they have expressed solidarity with their striking fraternity.

Chief Secretary M.K. Srivastava on Monday directed all Divisional Commissioners and Collectors to take appropriate measures to avoid any inconvenience to the common people.

Shinde said that the government will constitute an administrative committee of top officers to study the OPS demands and it would submit its report within a given time-frame, but the employees unions insist it should be accepted as a policy.

The clamour for the OPS started ahead of the state budget session with a series of protests, processions, marches across the state to revert to the previous scheme.

The move gained momentum after at least half a dozen states – Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and Punjab – announced their plans to revert to the OPS last month.

Rebutting the state government’s arguments that it would hit the state’s already stressed financial situation, Katkar and other leaders said that if it is not affecting the economy of other states, then how could it affect Maharashtra.

He argued that since most employees shall retire only after another 10-12 years, the state government can systematically plan the OPS implementation without any adverse financial impact.
