  • Madrassa Plus project to impart modern education to ‘Huffaz’

Madrassa Plus project to impart modern education to ‘Huffaz’

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Imparting modern education to madrassa students is nothing new. The concept is now being sought to be implemented in a different way to make it more effective and popular. The Shaheen Group of Schools along with the Sahitiya Trust, Safa Baitul Maal and other organisations, have decided to educate 5000 ‘huffaz’ (Quran memorisers) in the modern subjects right at their madrassa. Billed as the ‘Madrassa Plus’ programme, it will be implemented in a mission mode method to ensure that the madrassa students are in a position to appear for the tenth class examination in just 18 months flat.

Beginning May 2, Madrassa Plus will be introduced for 100 students in 50 selected seminaries across the country.  Through a bridge course, the students will be taught the basics of mathematics, science and English in the first three months. Thereafter they will be imparted government schools syllabus so that they could write the tenth exam in 18 months through the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS).

Giving details of the programme, Dr. M.A. Qadeer (Shaheen Schools), Syed Aneesuddin (Sahatiya Trust), Prof. Amirullah Khan (Economist), Maulana Ghyas Rashadi (Safa Baitul Maal) told press persons here on Monday that 50 madrassa, mostly in UP, Bihar, Rajasthan and Assam, have been chosen for execution of the programme. Huffaz in the age group of 14 to 18 years will be coached in the modern subjects. In the coming years more madrassas would be brought under the ambit of Madrassa Plus, said Dr. Qadeer who has successfully tried the Hafiz Plus programme for the Shaheen group of schools.

For the madrassa students the whole thing will be free of cost. Food, accommodation and examination fee will be taken care of with the help of NGOs. The idea is to improve the economic status of madrassa students, who mostly remain unemployed or underemployed. “This project was actually visualised by eminent scholar, Maulana Abul Hasan Nadvi,” Maulana Rashadi said and denied that it would deprive madrassas and mosques of religious scholars.

Presently the madrassa system of education is under threat in parts of the country. The Madrassa Plus project is intended to protect the seminaries and also provide the students there best of education on all fronts of life, Prof. Amirullah Khan said.

New Delhi: Bihar has the lowest literacy rate in the country followed by Arunachal Pradesh and Rajasthan, according to Ministry of Education.

The literacy rate in rural India is 67.77 per cent as compared to 84.11 per cent in urban India, it said.

The information was shared by Union Minister of State for Education, Annapurna Devi in response to a written question in Lok Sabha.

“Samagra Shiksha scheme envisages the school as a continuum from pre-school, primary, upper primary, secondary to senior secondary levels.

“The states and UTs are assisted by the central government to implement the Samagra Shiksha as a programme for providing universal access and retention, bridging the gender and social category gaps in education and enhancement of learning level of children at all levels of school education,” Devi said.

According to the data shared by the Ministry of Education, Bihar (61.8 pc) has the lowest literacy, followed by Arunachal Pradesh (65.3 pc) and Rajasthan (66.1 pc).

Kerala has the highest literacy rate (94 pc) followed by Lakshadweep (91.85) and Mizoram (91.33 pc), it said.

The ministry said to improve the literacy rate among adults in the country, a centrally sponsored scheme of Adult Education Saakshar Bharat.

It said the scheme was implemented in the rural areas of 404 districts in 26 states and one Union Territory, that had adult female literacy rate of 50 per cent and below as per Census 2001, including left wing extremism affected districts…, the ministry informed the House.

“The target was to raise the overall literacy rate of the country to 80 per cent and reduce gender gap to 10 per cent point by the end of XII five year plan.

“The scheme was extended up to March 31, 2018. • Telangana education council to introduce cyber security course for UGs

Telangana education council to introduce cyber security course for UGs

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) has announced that all the universities in the state offering undergraduate courses will also be incorporating cyber security courses from the next academic year.

Designed and developed by experts from Osmania University and NALSAR University of Law, the course will be availed by the students while they pursue BSc or BA.

TSCHE chairman Prof. R Limbadri chaired a meeting with the revenue principal, commissioner of technical and collegiate education Navin Mittal and vice chancellors of six conventional universities on Thursday.

Convening the meeting, Prof. Limbadri said, “Not just creating awareness on the cybercrimes, the new cyber security course will help students with employability opportunities.”

Apart from cyber security, the university will also be offering BSc (Honours) in Computer Science as a major and artificial intelligence and machine learning as minor subjects from the next academic year.

Another decision was that private affiliated degree colleges will be granted generic affiliation instead of course-wise affiliation from the next academic year.

This meant all the BSc Life Sciences or Physical Sciences will be given a single affiliation instead of course-wise as is being done now. The affiliation process will be through the university management system.

During the meeting, officials reviewed the bucket system that enables students to choose their subject as per their interest.

TSCHE encourages NAAC grading in UG institutions

TSCHE on Thursday further decided to encourage all higher educational institutions to go for National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) grading.

A seed fund of Rs 1 lakh to the college desirous, will be provided by the council to go for the grading.

To implement the new initiative, the council will reportedly hold workshops and seminars with resource persons from the NAAC Bangalore on creating awareness of the grading system.

‘Politics of education’ will defeat BJP’s ‘Politics of jail’ : Sisodia in open letter

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Thursday penned an open letter on ‘Politics of Education’ vs ‘Politics of Jail’ while in custody alleging that BJP’s problem with politics of education is that it “builds nations, not leaders.”

He wrote, “It is much easier to throw political opponents in jail than giving quality education to children. BJP’s real problem with politics of education is that it builds nations, not leaders.”

“Politics of education is not an easy task and definitely not a recipe for political success. Today, politics of jail might be winning under the rule of the BJP, but the future belongs to politics of education,” he wrote.

After CBI, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested the Aam Aadmi Party leader on money laundering charges in connection with alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy, official sources said.

The 51-year-old former Delhi education minister was arrested under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) following his second round of questioning at the Tihar jail, they said.

Sisodia has been in judicial custody since the CBI arrested him on February 26 in connection with alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped Delhi liquor or excise policy for 2021-22.

The first round of Sisodia’s questioning by the ED took place on March 7.
