Gurugram: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday said that the state government is implementing a Zero Drop Out policy to ensure that no child in the state remains out of school by next year.

“Taking this initiative ahead, about 48 lakh children in the age group of 6 to 18 years are being tracked to know the status of their education,” Khattar said while addressing the students, parents and teachers at the inaugural ceremony of Satya School in Sector 49, Gurugram.

He further said that under this scheme, two schools in each of the 135 blocks of the state i.e a total of 270 PM-SHRI schools will be opened by next year.

“Education will be imparted according to the National Education Policy in these schools. The government has set a target to implement National Education Policy across the country by 2030 but in Haryana, it will be fully implemented by 2025,” he said.

The Chief Minisyter said around 5.5 lakh digital tablets were distributed to the students of classes X to XII to connect the children of government schools with technology. On the other hand, education is being imparted through smart classrooms in government schools in Haryana, he added.

Rakesh Bharti Mittal, Chairman of Satya School said, “Our Children are the hope of a better, progressive and happy tomorrow. We believe that every child is a born star with infinite innate potential, and education is a means to unleash that potential. Aligned with the National Education Policy of India, our students will be nurtured in a holistic learning environment and equipped with skills to take on the challenges of the fast-changing world.”

Telangana: KTR slams BJP for Mehul Choksi’s name drop from Interpol list

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana IT minister KT Rama Rao on Tuesday hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party for the diamantaire Mehul Choksi’s removal from the Interpol database of Red Notices and asked if there was a ‘special exemption for fraudsters from Gujarat’.

He tweeted and said that “Modi hai toh mumkin hai” alleging that prime minister Narendra Modi was behind the letting off of Choksi.

Referring to a video clip where the prime minister was seen addressing Mehul Choksi as “Hamare Mehul Bhai”, the Telangana minister tweeted, “Mehul Choksi Bhai, Yet Another cousin of Raja Satya Harishchandra who only committed a small bank fraud of ₹13,500 Crore given an NoC allowing him to travel Scot-free”

In a major setback to Indian probe agencies, the Interpol removed fugitive Mehul Choksi, accused of committing an Rs 11,356.84 crore loan fraud case with the Punjab National Bank (PNB), from its ‘red’ notice list.

Choksi was added to the red notice list in December 2018. As per sources, authorities concerned with the Indian government objected to the move of Interpol but it didn’t budge on the decision.

‘Modani Model’: Cong slams Mehul Choksi’s name drop from Interpol list

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Congress on Tuesday hit out at the BJP-led government over fugitive diamantaire Mehul Choksi’s removal from the Interpol database of Red Notices, saying while the Opposition was being targeted by the Enforcement Directorate and CBI, its “friend” was being let off.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said talk of patriotism by those giving “protection” to such people is a “joke”.

In a tweet, former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi said, “‘Vipaksh ko ED, CBI, Mitr ko rihaai’ (ED, CBI for the Opposition, let off for friend).”

“‘Modani’ model matlab pehle looto, phir bin sazaa ke chooto’ (Modani model means first loot and then go scott-free without punishment),” he said.

Speaking with reporters before leaving for Parliament, Kharge said, “They are doing things to divert attention from real issues. Our embassies are being attacked. People who have run away with money from banks, Mehul Choksi, those giving protection to such people talk about patriotism, it is a joke.” the Congress president told reporters before leaving for Parliament.

“We will ask the government to clarify on this,” he said.

Choksi, wanted in a Rs 13,000-crore scam in the Punjab National Bank, is understood to have been removed from the Interpol database of Red Notices on the basis of his plea to the Lyon-headquartered agency, people in the know of the development had said.

Earlier in a tweet in Hindi, Kharge said, “ED-CBI for opposition leaders but release from Interpol for ‘our Mehul bhai’ of Modi ji. When Parliament can be stalled for ‘best friend’, then how can help for the ‘old friend ‘ be denied who absconded five years ago”.

“Thousands of crores of the country were lost and ‘Na khaane doonga’ became another ‘jumla’,” the Congress chief also said.

On the BJP’s attack on Rahul Gandhi, Kharge told reporters that the question of an apology doesn’t arise.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday charged that Gandhi is the present day Mir Jafar of Indian polity.

“It would not be an aberration to say that Rahul Gandhi is a present day Mir Jafar of Indian polity. What he has done in London is the same thing that Mir Jafar did,” BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra told a press conference

Parliament has remained paralysed due to protests from rival sides.

While the BJP has demanded an “unambiguous apology” from Gandhi for his remarks in the UK that democracy in India is “under attack”, several opposition parties have accused the government that it does not want Parliament to function and is finding ways to divert attention from their demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe (JPC) into allegations against the Adani Group.

  • Backlash hits Audubon after refusal to drop slave-holder’s name

Backlash hits Audubon after refusal to drop slave-holder’s name

    [ad_1]

Tan, Fuentes and Giese did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Tan is a partner at the Seattle-based law firm Cascadia Law Group, Fuentes is vice president of government affairs for the nonprofit Transportation Institute, and Giese works at the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay’s Cofrin Center for Biodiversity, according to their profiles on Audubon’s website.

Tan was the leader of a task force commissioned by the Audubon board to consider whether to rename the group, according to the person who was informed about their resignations. Fuentes was a member of that task force.

Audubon Chief Marketing and Communications Officer Betty Su declined to say which three of the 26 board members resigned yesterday, citing “respect for board members who have not announced their decision publicly” in a statement.

“While the Board is disappointed to lose these Directors and the wisdom and dedication they brought to the Board, we respect their decision,” Susan Bell, the chair of the National Audubon Society’s board, said in a statement. “We also value tremendously the many diverse and reasoned perspectives that these Directors — and others — have brought to this difficult conversation for our organization.”

Some Audubon staffers, who had been waiting to hear about a decision about the group’s name, were frustrated to learn about the outcome from news reports prior to hearing from leadership. Audubon’s leadership alerted staff to the decision in a 9 a.m. email Wednesday, at the same time The Washington Post released a story including interviews with Audubon’s leaders.

Bell and Audubon CEO Elizabeth Gray hosted a tense all-staff Zoom meeting in the afternoon, where they defended the decision to keep the name and fielded questions from frustrated staffers.

“It was a rough all-staff,” said one Audubon employee who was granted anonymity to discuss the internal conversation. That person said the leadership began the meeting with statements that felt “pretty canned” before opening up the discussion to questions.

“There was no shortage of people questioning the rationale, questioning how Audubon can claim to be anti-racist while retaining the name of a white supremacist slave owner,” that employee said.

“It was jarring to hear the defense for this decision,” said Shyamlee Patel, an Audubon employee and member of the organization’s staff union.

Audubon announced this week that the board made its decision after an evaluation process that spanned more than a year and included input from more than 2,300 people from Audubon’s network and beyond. The organization said it commissioned “historical research that examined John James Audubon’s life, views, and how they did — and did not — reflect his time.”

Ultimately, the group’s leaders said, the board determined that keeping the name was the best way to fulfill its mission to protect birds and the places they need.

“Based on the critical threats to birds that Audubon must urgently address and the need to remain a non-partisan force for conservation, the Board determined that retaining the name would enable [the National Audubon Society] to direct key resources and focus towards enacting the organization’s mission,” the organization said in an explainer posted on its website.

“The Board’s decision enables the organization to focus its time, resources, and capacity on the organization’s new Strategic Plan and putting its equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging (EDIB) commitments into action,” the explainer said.

Also Wednesday, Audubon announced plans to devote $25 million over five years to fund equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging work both internally and through conservation programs.

Audubon has experienced turnover within its diversity office in recent years.

Andrés Villalon, resigned from the organization in December after leading Audubon’s office of equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging. Villalon wrote to colleagues in a farewell email that the organization at times failed to live up to its stated values.

“I want to know who is actually going to be in charge of spending that money and where does it go?” Patel said Thursday of the $25 million commitment. “I see this as honestly trying to buy us off.”

Audubon employees are also frustrated that the organization won’t release the data it compiled while making its decision to keep its current name.

Leadership wouldn’t answer questions during the all-staff call about how the information was considered, Patel said. “Did they weigh certain members more? I don’t know.”

“The Board will not be sharing the research, as they are less indicative without important context and knowledge that factored into the Board’s decision,” Bell said in a statement.

Staffers were also concerned that the Audubon board did not reach out directly to Audubon’s affinity group for Black employees prior to making its decision.

Bell said in a statement, “All Audubon staff members were invited to share their perspectives with the Board through a survey. Individual members of Audubon’s Executive Team were also invited to meet with the Task Force to represent the views of their teams and constituents — this included the head of the EDIB (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging) team who presented EDIB perspectives.”

The announcement is taking a toll on morale in an organization that has already had a tumultuous few years, employees said.

“This makes my work harder,” said the employee who was granted anonymity. That person criticized the group’s leaders of “doubling down on being named after a racist slaveholder.”

Drones Used To Drop Weapons, Money And Narcotics In Jk: DGP Singh

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir’s Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh on Friday said that weapons and narcotics are being air-dropped through drones in border villages of Jammu to revive and fuel militancy in the UT where “a peaceful atmosphere is prevailing at present.”

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a Jammu Marathon organized by the police, DGP Singh said that at present peace is prevailing in JK and militancy is at its lowest ebb.

However, weapons fitted with drones along with huge consignments of narcotics are being air-dropped in border villages of Jammu.

“We have foiled many such bids and seized huge consignments of narcotics. Recently narcotics worth Rs 2 crore were seized,” the DGP said, adding that weapons are meant to be handed over to militants while narcotics is sold and money earned is being distributed among militants.

“Some part of the amount is sent back to the mentors sitting across who give the same to militants infiltrating into this side to carry out IED and other attacks. The links of narco-terror have been found in Punjab also,” the DGP said.

DGP said, “G20 events are being organised in Jammu and Kashmir, and we are making all possible security arrangements for the smooth conduct of these events.”

Earlier on Saturday Indian Army said that troops have recovered Indian and foreign currency worth over Rs 2 crores & around 7kg of narcotics from the residence of one Mohd Rafique in the Poonch sector. (KNO)

  • Media drop Dilbert after creator’s Black ‘hate group’ remark

Media drop Dilbert after creator’s Black ‘hate group’ remark

    [ad_1]

Dilbert is a long-running comic that pokes fun at office-place culture.

The backlash began following an episode this past week of the YouTube show called “Real Coffee with Scott Adams.” Among other topics, Adams referenced a Rasmussen Reports survey that had asked whether people agreed with the statement “It’s OK to be white.”

Most agreed, but Adams noted that 26% of Black respondents disagreed and others weren’t sure.

The Anti-Defamation League says the phrase was popularized in 2017 as a trolling campaign by members of the discussion forum 4chan but then began being used by some white supremacists.

Adams, who is white, repeatedly referred to people who are Black as members of a “hate group” or a “racist hate group” and said he would no longer “help Black Americans.”

“Based on the current way things are going, the best advice I would give to white people is to get the hell away from Black people,” Adams said on his Wednesday show.

In another episode of his online show Saturday, Adams said he had been making a point that “everyone should be treated as an individual” without discrimination.

“But you should also avoid any group that doesn’t respect you, even if there are people within the group who are fine,” Adams said.

The Los Angeles Times cited Adams’ “racist comments” while announcing Saturday that Dilbert will be discontinued Monday in most editions and that its final run in the Sunday comics — which are printed in advance — will be March 12.

The San Antonio Express-News, which is part of Hearst Newspapers, said Saturday that it will drop the Dilbert comic strip, effective Monday, “because of hateful and discriminatory public comments by its creator.”

The USA Today Network tweeted Friday that it also will stop publishing Dilbert “due to recent discriminatory comments by its creator.”

The Plain Dealer in Cleveland and other publications that are part of Advance Local media also announced that they are dropping Dilbert.

“This is a decision based on the principles of this news organization and the community we serve,” wrote Chris Quinn, editor of The Plain Dealer. ”We are not a home for those who espouse racism. We certainly do not want to provide them with financial support.”

Christopher Kelly, vice president of content for NJ Advance Media, wrote that the news organization believes in “the free and fair exchange of ideas.”

“But when those ideas cross into hate speech, a line must be drawn,” Kelly wrote.
