New Delhi: A youth was killed and his cousin seriously injured in a hit-and-run case in Delhi’s high-security VIP zone.

The incident, which was captured on video by a witness, took place at the intersection of New Delhi’s Kasturba Gandhi Marg and Tolstoy Marg on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Deepanshu Verma (30) while his cousin Mukul is undergoing treatment at a hospital where his condition is stated to be critical.

Verma, who was a jewellery shop owner, is survived by his parents and a sister.

According to the witness, a car rammed into a bike and due to the impact of the collision, Mukul got thrown several feet away, while Verma landed on the car’s roof.

Shockingly, the car driver did not stop to assess the situation but sped away with the injured man still on the roof.

The man even followed the fleeing car on his scooter while recording the incident. Despite honking and shouting, the car did not stop. After driving for about 3 kilometres, the suspects dumped the injured man off the car near Delhi Gate and fled.

Verma and Mukul were rushed to hospital where Verma succumbed to his injuries.

The Delhi Police have registered a case of murder and arrested the suspects. However, the police are yet to reveal their names.

    More details are awaited.

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Regional Passport Office (RPO), Hyderabad, has taken a significant step towards providing convenience to passport applicants by deciding to conduct special passport drives at five Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) in Telangana on Saturdays. This initiative is set to start on April 29, 2023.

Of the five PSKs, three are located in Hyderabad, namely, Begumpet, Ameerpet, and Tolichowki. The remaining two PSKs are situated in Karimnagar and Nizamabad. This move is expected to benefit a large number of applicants who have been facing difficulties in getting slots for passports and passport-related services due to the long waiting times and heavy rush at these centers.

To start with, the Hyderabad RPO has decided to release 3056 appointments under all categories, including Tatkal, normal, and PCC, for April 29, 2023.

    MS Education Academy

It has been reported that the appointments for the following Saturday will be released on the official website of the passport at 4 pm on Thursday. This means that applicants need to keep a watch on the website and book their appointments as soon as they are made available to avoid missing out on the chance.

This move comes as a relief to many who have been struggling to get an appointment at the PSKs due to the high demand for passport services.

Apart from the special passport drives, the Hyderabad RPO has also recently announced that the PSKs under its jurisdiction will release 500 additional appointments daily for two weeks, starting April 27, 2023. This decision has been taken to address the long waiting times and cater to the increasing demand for passport services.

Lauding the services rendered by the auto drivers, the minister addressed them as brand ambassadors of Siddipet as they carry out multiple tasks from taking tourists safely to their destinations, tour guiding them while they are on their way and also in many cases shifting injured passengers to hospitals before the ambulance arrives.

While addressing auto drivers and their family members to mark the fourth anniversary of the society, Harish Rao said that the society was increasing the credit limit to Rs 15,000 from the existing Rs 10,000, besides enhancing the marriage incentive to Rs 5,000 from the current Rs 3,500.

Harish Rao also declared setting up a petrol bunk for the auto drivers society so that they could get petrol at cheaper rates and assured them of a permanent building in addition to setting up an auto nagar.

He stated that auto drivers earlier blended money from private money lenders by paying a huge interest rate, until four years ago. The minister said that the society has helped the drivers consolidate financially in the last four years.

Harish Rao further promised prize money of Rs 25,000 for children of auto drivers if they scored 10 out of 10 GPA in the SSC examination.

69 super specialists to be recruited as patients flood medical college hospital in Nizamabad

Harish Rao on Sunday said that the Nizamabad Government Medical College will soon be allocated 29 senior doctors who will provide super speciality services to cater to the increasing number of patients in the district.

“Telangana government will recruit 40 specialised doctors to work in various departments in Mahabubnagar Government Medical College and Hospital, in view of the patient inflow increasing,” he said.

Remarking that patients were earlier forced to go to big cities for quality medical care, the mister said that with new medical colleges and super speciality hospital services made available for the people in every district, the issue has been tackled.

“As part of this endeavour, the state government will soon open nine more medical colleges this year, in addition to the 17 such existing colleges,” Harish said.

Emphasising the availability of seats to medical students, the minister said, “Telangana has become a role model for the country in the field of healthcare. Also, people’s trust in government hospitals has increased significantly.”

Zoology | Primates descend from the tree again like human trunks in the past – Warming drives the growths of the canopy t

    [ad_1]

Human strains once developed in Africa, when apes that lived in trees began to descend to the ground.

Other types of monkeys in Africa and Asia already got rid of their dependence on trees millions of years ago.

Climate change and the thinning of forests are currently leading to a similar development in both American monkeys and Madagascar proboscis monkeys, an international team of researchers found.

“The research started when many of us said they had noticed the same thing. Some populations of tree-dwelling primates have begun to spend more time on the ground, although the same species in more undisturbed areas may never descend to the ground,” describes the study in the bulletin American Timothy Eppley.

The study was published in the American Academy of Sciences In the Pnas science journal.

Team delved into the matter in more detail by collecting a total of approximately 15,000 hours of observations of 32 monkey species from various parts of South and Central America and 15 prosimian species throughout Madagascar.

On average, monkeys spent a couple of percent of their time on the ground, semi-monkeys about five. Differences were found between species and within the same species.

Primates seem to be attracted to the land by both the environmental conditions and the range of habits of each species, the researchers report in the Pnas magazine.

Moving in fragmented forests is difficult, unless you occasionally descend from a tree. As the climate warms, landing becomes more and more attractive.

In the tropics, the forest floor is cooler than the canopy, and there is water on the ground for drinking and bathing.

Nowadays, for example, brown lemurs from the hottest forests of Madagascar spend more time on the ground than their cooler congeners.

Most primates are kept in trees by eating fruit. The species that specialize in it, hunker down more reluctantly than the leaf eaters and omnivores, for whom new ground cover opens up.

To land also seems to be encouraged by the protection afforded by a large herd.

For example, spider monkeys in Brazil and bokombals in Madagascar hang out in larger groups in the forest than in the trees.

The spread of people may hinder development, as tree dwellers do not like to land near human settlements or roads.

  • J&K: Spare poor from encroachment drives, appeals Ghulam Nabi Azad

J&K: Spare poor from encroachment drives, appeals Ghulam Nabi Azad

    [ad_1]

Srinagar: Democratic Azad Party (DAP) chief Ghulam Nabi Azad Saturday demanded a formal order from the Raj Bhavan to spare the poor in the ongoing anti-encroachment drive.

He also announced his party was putting on hold its proposed UT-wide agitation against evictions as he has been given assurances the poor will not be evicted.

“I met Union Home minister Amit Shah and requested him that poor people should not be evicted from their houses, or poor shopkeepers from their shops through which they earn their livelihoods. The J-K LG has also given a statement that the poor will be spared. So, we have decided to postpone our agitation on their assurances,” Azad said, addressing his party workers at Sonwar here.

Since the eviction notice came, many political parties issued statements but none came out on the roads to protest. “I am proud of my party and my party colleagues that they protested across J-K.”

Earlier in the day, his party members took out a protest march from the party office at Sonwar and blocked the main road near Sonwar Chowk. They demanded a rollback of the eviction order.

Welcoming the statement by J-K LG, Azad said it cannot be any government’s policy to make its own people homeless. “Most of these people are poor. There are 50-60 lakh households, which is half of our population. It cannot be a policy of any government to make people homeless,” the former Congress general secretary said.

He said conflicting statements by the J-K administration have created confusion, and therefore the Raj Bhavan should issue a formal order making it clear that poor people and small shopkeepers will not be evicted.

“A written order from the Raj Bhavan should be issued which notifies how much land a person should have under his possession which can be spared. I think 99 percent of the people will come under that ambit,” he added.

He said lakhs of canals of land are illegally occupied in cities like Mumbai and Delhi, and the government provides them electricity, water, roads, schools, and hospitals.
Whichever party is in power be it Congress, or the BJP, or the AAP, their biggest poll promise is regularisation of such land, he said.

“If it can happen to the costliest land in the country, then why not in J-K, the former J-K chief minister said.

The DAP chairman said his party was not in favor of the illegal occupation of government land by rich and influential people. But there should not pick and choose while dealing with the big fishes, he said, adding, influential people from any political party, “even from mine”, should not be spared.

He said some people with as little as one or two marlas of land have also got notices. “Such people have small shops on that to sustain their life. They are not businessmen like Ambani or Adani.”

“I respect both of them as they have played a role in the country’s economy, in giving employment. I took their names only to make a point that there are no businessmen like them. We have very small businessmen who earn their livelihood for their sustenance,” he said.

He said this government has done a lot of good things, but “I do not understand, why they are trying to put water, through the land issue, over their good deeds”.

Asked about a reported J-K chief secretary directive to officers to check if anybody making negative statements on the anti-encroachment drive has himself or herself encroached upon government land, Azad said no one can be stopped from making any statements in a democracy.

“No one can suppress the voice of the people,” he added.
