Anti-encroachment drive to recover state land will continue: LG

    [ad_1]

Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday said the drive to evict illegal occupants of state land in Jammu and Kashmir will be resumed and the recovered land used to fuel industrial revolution in the Union Territory.

“We took the lands. Let me make it clear that we will take back all state land. The state land must remain with the government,” Sinha said at the foundation-laying ceremony of first FDI project in Jammu and Kashmir at Sempora here.

The Union Territory administration launched the eviction drive in January this year but had to stop it following protests.

Sinha said the retrieved land will be used for driving industrial revolution and creating facilities for people.

“The big tracts of land will be given for setting up industry. The smaller plots will be used to create facilities like play fields. The small patches of land will be used as burial ground for poor people who don’t even get land for last rites,” the LG said.

Laying the foundation stone for Mall of Srinagar by Dubai’s EMAAR Group at Sempora, the Lt Governor congratulated the people of J&K on the historic occasion.

“This is a new dawn of limitless possibilities. We are taking forward PM Narendra Modi ji’s vision for development of J&K. Mall of Srinagar will have transformative impact on UT & boost infrastructure, employment generation and ease of living,” he said.

Sinha said the Mall of Srinagar and allied projects with Government of Dubai will fuel the economic growth of J&K and help in achieving the shared vision of strengthening bilateral trade and investment ties between India and the UAE.

“The credit for the strong ties between the UAE and India goes to the strenuous efforts of the Prime Minister,” he added.

The Lt Governor highlighted the reforms introduced to create a favourable environment for Industries and Business to flourish in J&K.

“Unprecedented industrial investment and economic growth of J&K is laying the foundation for a stronger and more prosperous future for the people of Union Territory,” he said.

“In the last three years, we have registered phenomenal growth in different sectors and in terms of knowledge, physical and digital connectivity, Jammu and Kashmir has performed exceptionally well in the entire country,” the LG added.

Delhi: BJP, VHP protest after temple demolished as part of DDA anti-encroachment drive

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) demolished a temple in the Rajender Nagar area on Thursday as part of its anti-encroachment drive, triggering a protest by the BJP and the Vishva Hindu Parishad.

An official of the DDA said, “For demolition of religious structures, the nod of the religious committee (formed by the government) is required. We sought the committee’s approval and following its go-ahead, the demolition was carried out.”

A senior police officer said that adequate security arrangements were made for the demolition exercise in the Rajender Nagar area of central Delhi.

“The demolition drive was carried out Thursday morning. Forty per cent of the structure was demolished and the process was conducted peacefully,” the police officer said.

Several BJP and Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) leaders and workers staged a sit-in at the temple in protest against the demolition exercise.

Former Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta alleged that the Arvind Kejriwal government was targeting temples in the city.

“We are protesting the action by DDA and I appeal to people to gather here and oppose the effort to demolish the temple,” Gupta said.

  • NIA Intensifies Drive Against Nexus of Militant-Gangster-Drug Smuggler

    [ad_1]

Five More Properties Attached in Delhi, Haryana

Srinagar, March 07(GNS): National Investigation Agency on Tuesday intensified its cracked down against Militant-Gangster-Drug Smuggler Networks across North India.

In a handout to GNS, the NIA said that following investigations in cases against 3 major Organised Crime Syndicates/gangs being operated by Pak based Harvinder Rinda, Lawrence Bishnoi and Bambiha group, the NIA has attached another 4 Properties in Haryana and 1 in Delhi owned by members of Organised Crime Syndicates operating in the northern States of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi. Today’s attachments follow similar attachments of 5 properties (4 in Haryana and 1 in Delhi) on March 4th, 2023.

According to statsment, properties attached today were found acquired from funds generated from carrying out different types of militant and criminal extortion activities and were thus ‘proceeds of militancy’, as they were being used for hatching militant conspiracies and execution of crimes.

The Properties attached in action by NIA today include the House of Chhotu Ram@ Bhat at Chautala (district Sirsa), House of Jagseer Singh @ Jagga @ Jagsir @ Jagga Sarpanch at Takhatmal (district Sirsa), house of Virender Singh @ Kala Rana in district Yamuna Nagar and land of Raju @ Mota r/o Basaudi in district Sonipat in Haryana and land of Satyawan Sehrawat @ Sonu at Dariyapur in Delhi, he said.

NIA’s action today has hit at the weapons supply chain of this network. Virender @Kala Rana, Chhotu Ram @Bhat and Jagseer Singh @Jagga used to provide weapons and arrange logistics, include safe sanctuaries, to the gang members. Satyawan @ Sonu and Raju @Mota r/o Basaudi had also harboured gangsters. They had a major role to play in the generation of funds to support the operations of militancy-crime syndicates. Raju @Mota had laundered the money by investing the ‘proceeds of terrorism’ in real estate business and other businesses, including liquor, he said.

NIA has carried out over 230 raids/searches across Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Delhi/ NCR, arrested 27 gangster-leaders, recovered around 38 weapons, frozen 87 Bank accounts since it launched its drive against organised crime syndicates in August 2022. In addition, Canada based Arsh Dalla and Pakistan based Harvinder Rinda have been listed as ‘terrorists’ by the MHA under UAPA in the recent past, he said.

The drive to choke these organised crime networks of funding and to dismantle their ecosystem by attaching and seizing their properties, derived from ‘proceeds of terrorism and crime’ would be intensified in the coming days, alongwith Police forces of various States, reads the statement.(GNS)

Mehrauli demolition drive: Delhi HC seeks identity documents of residents

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday asked counsel for Goshiya Colony Sewa Samiti and others residing in Mehrauli area of south Delhi to submit a list of identity documents of 467 residents in a plea challenging the colony’s demolition by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA).

A bench of Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora asked advocate Anupradha Singh, counsel for petitioner, to provide a list of the identity documents to counsel of the DDA and Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB).

The judge also asked her to file a rejoinder to the affidavits filed by the DDA and DUSIB, for which the court granted her one week’s time.

The court then listed the matter for the next hearing on March 14.

On February 17, the High Court had directed the DDA and DUSIB to file affidavits in the plea.

The plea challenges the December 12, 2022 demolition notice, wherein the DDA planned to carry out a demolition drive in the entire Goshiya Colony, which is in existence for more than five decades and consists of over 600 houses, with approximately 4,000 population.

The plea stated, citing the ‘Ajay Maken and others vs Union of India’ case that a demolition drive cannot be carried out without following the protocol for removal of jhuggis as per the order of High Court.

The petition claimed that the land-owning agency cannot begin the demolition process until the DUSIB determines that the jhuggis are not eligible for rehabilitation.

However, the DDA in its affidavit has stated that the land falls in Mehrauli Archaeological Park which forms part of the Southern Central Ridge where a large number of historical world-famous monuments exist which are protected/unprotected and maintained by the Archeological Survey of India (ASI).

It is stated in the affidavit that according to DDA’s land record, the land subject matter of the present petition false in khasra number 216 and 217 villages Ladha Sarai Mehrauli New Delhi and that Khasra Number 217 is acquired land.

The land has been set apart as green in the master plan of Delhi since the beginning and is to be developed and maintained as green and to be conserved under the Mehrauli Heritage Zone, the DDA’s affidavit stated.

  • Thousands join clean Yamuna drive in Taj city

Thousands join clean Yamuna drive in Taj city

    [ad_1]

Agra: The vanishing ghats of the Yamuna were cleaned and the river bed was made litter-free by scores of volunteers of the Nirankari Mission in Agra.

The dry and polluted river, without any fresh water, continues to remain a major threat to the Mughal monuments along its banks. River activists said the state and the successive Union governments showed no sense of urgency to desilt and dredge the river to revive it and support its aquatic life.

The volunteers, men, women, and children armed with gloves, spades, baskets and tractor trolleys, spent several hours picking up the garbage, mostly used polythene, plastic waste, and leather cuttings. Several tonnes of litter were cleared and transported to the municipal dump yards, the organisers said.

The action started early at the Etmauddaula viewpoint park, Balkeshwar Ghat, Hathi Ghat, Poiya Ghat and Kailash under the supervision of the Mission’s zonal chief Kanta Mahendru.

“Our hearts should be clean and also our surroundings, the rivers, the wells, and ponds,” she said.

Over the years, Yamuna has been reduced to a vast ‘sewage canal’ as all the freshwater is consumed by Haryana and Delhi.

“What flows down the river as it enters Uttar Pradesh is a combination of sewer, industrial effluents, and discharges from the drains. In Agra alone, more than a hundred drains open into the river, though the Supreme Court and the NGT have directed the local authorities to divert or tap the drains,” lamented environmentalist Devashish Bhattacharya.

Agra’s drinking water problem has been largely solved by the 130 km long pipeline from Bulandshahar district, which brings 150 cusecs of Ganga water. Ten cusecs of water go to Mathura while Agra gets 140 cusecs.

But the Yamuna is crucial to Agra, not only as it’s the city’s lifeline, but also to sustain monuments like Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Etmauddaula, Ram Bagh, etc.

“A dry and polluted river raises the air pollution levels in the city as dry dust from the river bed hits the monuments,” said members of the River Connect Campaign.
