    Dubai Sheikh Mohammed donates Dh250-million to ‘1 Billion Meals’ campaign

    Abu Dhabi: Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Tuesday announced his personal contribution of real estate assets and monetary contributions worth 250 million Dirhams (Rs 5,59,34,02,975) towards the “1 Billion Meals Endowment” campaign, the Dubai Media Office (DMO) reported

    “Ramzan is a special time in the UAE thanks to the acts of kindness it encourages, to the people of this nation and to the noble values instilled in us by the late Sheikh Zayed. The UAE stands strong because of its charity efforts, and because of the prayers of millions of people who benefit from them,” Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid said.

    Sheikh Mohammed expressed his gratitude to all donors whose contributions greatly supported the Ramzan food aid campaign, which exceeded its target in less than a month.

    Sheikh Mohammed said that generosity and the Emirates are two sides of the same coin, and that the One Billion Meal Endowment campaign will continue to welcome donations throughout the year.

    In a tweet, Sheikh Mohammed said that “the outcome of the One Billion Meal Endowment campaign has reached more than one billion and seventy-five million dirhams, in which more than 180,000 people participated.”

    1 Billion Meals Endowment campaign

    The “1 Billion Meals Endowment” campaign, which started on the first day of Ramzan, launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to establish the largest Ramzan sustainable food aid endowment fund.

    The “1 Billion Meals Endowment” campaign has seen a remarkable response at the community level to donate and help provide a food safety net for underprivileged communities around the world. The Endowment Fund will continue to welcome contributions throughout the year.

    The campaign received donations in the form of land, corporate shares, and cash contributions from companies and individuals, as well as daily subscriptions to be donated by thousands of community members.

    Abu Dhabi: Emirates airlines on Thursday announced the donation of 10 million Dirhams (Rs 22,25,90,031) towards the “1 Billion Meals Endowment” campaign, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.

    With this, the Emirates airline has joined a growing list of contributors to the “1 Billion Meals Endowment” campaign.

    Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman and CEO of Emirates Airline and Group said: “The “1 Billion Meals Endowment” campaign is a practical example of Sheikh Mohammed’s vision for sustainable good and charity, which creates hope and leads to a better future for all.

    “Our support for the campaign reflects our commitment to help improve the quality of life in underprivileged communities, especially those served by Emirates around the world. We are honoured to be part of the campaign and its efforts to provide a food safety net in countries struggling with food insecurity,” he added.

    1 Billion Meals Endowment campaign

    The “1 Billion Meals Endowment” campaign, which started on the first day of Ramzan, launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to establish the largest Ramzan sustainable food aid endowment fund.

    The “1 Billion Meals Endowment” campaign is an extension of previous food aid drives, starting in Ramzan 2020 with “10 Million Meals” campaign, followed by “100 Million Meals” in Ramzan 2021 and “1 Billion Meals” in Ramzan 2022.

    Dubai’s 1 Billion Meals Endowment campaign has raised a total of 750 million Dirhams (Rs 16,67,73,05,655) in 20 days, a result of contributions from 120,000 donators including major contributors, individuals, businesses and private- and public organizations.

    Tirupati: A devotee from Telangana presented two unique sarees, one of which had a gold zari (fine thread) in-laid, to Tirumala Sri Venkateswara Swamy and Tiruchanoor Sir Padmavati Devi temples in Tirpuati, an official said.

    These sarees, presented by Nalla Vijay, which could fit into a match box were presented through Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary K S Jawahar Reddy.

    The devotee presented the sarees to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) at Sri Padmavati Rest House in Tirupati, the official said in a statement on Sunday.

    “The cost of the saree presented to Srivaru is about Rs 45,000 while the one donated to Ammavaru has 5 grams of gold zari in its weaving,” the official added.

    Meanwhile, TTD, which administers the Tirupati temple, conducted the annual Pushpayagam, a ritual of flowers at Vontimitta Sri Kodandarama temple on Sunday evening.

    About 2.5 tonnes of flowers, encompassing 11 varieties, including six varieties of aromatic leaves were offered in a floral bath to the deities of Sri Sita Lakshmana sameta Sri Ramachandra Swamy.

    Further, Reddy directed TTD officials to make the services of the paediatric hospital available to the public by December.

    He inspected the construction work of the children’s hospital in Tirupati and also the work site of the feed mixing plant and second unit of agarbattis (incense sticks) at SV Gosala.

    With the new feed mixing plant, the chief secretary observed that TTD cattle will receive better fodder to enhance their milk production while the second agarbattis unit will help meet the rising public demand for incense sticks.

    Reddy appreciated the doctors team led by Srinath Reddy for performing 1,300 heart surgeries in the paediatric hospital, besides two heart transplants.

    Hyderabad: Director of KIMS-Ushalakshmi Centre for Breast Diseases, Dr P Raghu Ram donated Rs 10 lakh to 37 girl students in his adopted village Ibrahimpur, Medak on Sunday.

    Each girl student received Rs 27, 000 in their Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana accounts. According to the scheme, the money will mature to Rs 1 lakh after they turn 18 years.

    Health minister T Harish Rao distributed the cheques at a function held in Siddipet.

    Singing praises, the minister said, “Due to Dr Raghu Ram’s contribution, Ibrahimpur village now has a modern crematorium, home solar systems to ensure zero electricity bills, digital classrooms, a dining hall in school premises, and an open-air gym.”

    Speaking on the occasion, Dr Raghu Ram said Ibrahimpur village is a benchmark for other villages.

    “There are nearly 10,000 villages in Telangana. My wish is for 10, 000 citizens to adopt one village each and invest part of their resources, time, and energy to uplift the lives and livelihood in rural areas, where more than 70 percent of the population reside,” he said.

    Princess Esra donates Rs 5 lakh gold jewelry to Yadadri temple

    Hyderabad: Princess Esra, ex-wife of the late titular Nizam Mukarram Jah, has made a donation of 67 grams of gold jewelry worth approximately Rs 5 lakh to Lord Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy during the annual brahmotsavam at Yadadri temple.

    Yadadri Temple Development Authority Vice Chairman G Kishan Rao on behalf of Princess Esra donated the jewelry to the temple Executive Officer N Geetha.

    According to Kishan Rao, Princess Esra, who resides in London but frequently travels to Hyderabad and her home country of Turkey, earlier expressed interest in visiting the temple.

    While Princess Esra had planned to visit the temple during her recent trip to the city, she was unable to do so following Mukarram Jah’s demise last month.

    During Asaf Jahi’s rule, the last Nizam of Hyderabad Mir Osman Ali Khan also passed a grant of Rs. 82825 to the temple.

    Princess Esra

    Princess Esra who was born in Turkey is a princess by marriage and not by birth. She was married to Prince Mukkaram Jah of Hyderabad’s Asaf Jah Dynasty in 1959.

    During their 15 years of marriage, they have a daughter Shekhya and a son Azmet Jah who is the current head of the House of Asaf Jah.

    The princess who currently lives in London is credited with the restoration of the Chowmahalla and Falaknuma Palaces.

    Yadadri temple

    It is a temple located on a hillock in Yadagirigutta, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district of Telangana state.

    The expansion and rebuilding of the temple that started in 2016 were completed in March 2022. It was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Telangana State K Chandrashekar Rao on March 28, 2022.

    The base of the temple which is entirely built in stone is now 14 acres. Earlier, it was built on two acres.

    Doha: Qatar will send 10,000 units of cabins and caravans used during the FIFA World Cup 2022, to the homeless victims of the earthquake disaster in Syria and Turkey, local media reported.

    At dawn on Monday, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck southern Turkey and northern Syria, followed by another hours later with a magnitude of 7.6 and hundreds of violent aftershocks, which left huge losses of lives and property in both countries.

    In that situation, Qatar, the host country of the 2022 World Cup, announced that it would stand by the two countries.

    The first shipment of 306 cabins is scheduled to leave the port of Doha bound for Turkey on Monday, with more shipments expected to be delivered in the coming days, according to Qatari officials.

    “In light of the urgent needs in Turkey and Syria, we have decided to ship our cabins and mobile homes to the region, to provide immediate and much-needed support to the people of Turkey and Syria,” a Qatari official said in a statement to AFP.

    The Emir of  Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, arrived on Sunday, in Turkey on a working visit, during which he will meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

    Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported that the Emir of the country arrive in Istanbul, Turkey, accompanied by an official delegation, to meet with President Erdogan.

    Sheikh Tamim’s visit comes at a time when Turkey is struggling to overcome the effects of the devastating earthquake that struck the southwest of the country on Monday, February 6, 2023.

    On Friday, Emir of Qatar donated 50 million Qatari riyals for the earthquake-affected people in Turkey and Syria.

    Donations to the Qatari campaign amounted to more than 168 million and 15 thousand and 836 Qatari riyals, as of Saturday.

    Qatar provided initial aid represented by an air bridge equipped with relief and health materials and a rescue team, as well as 10,000 mobile homes, and tons of its aid arrived at the Turkish airport in Adana.

    In a humanitarian spirit, an anonymous Pakistani businessman residing in The United States of America has donated 30 million US dollars (Rs 2,47,56,15,00) to help the victims of the terrible earthquake in Turkey and Syria that stuck on Friday leading to major loss of life and property.

    Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has praised the businessman whose name is not revealed

    “Deeply moved by the example of an anonymous Pakistani who walked into Turkish embassy in the US and donated $30 million for earthquake victims in Türkiye and Syria,” Shehbaz Sharif tweeted on Saturday.

    “These are such glorious acts of philanthropy that enable humanity to triumph over the seemingly insurmountable odds,” he added.

    In a video clip posted on Twitter, Yousuf Erim, a journalist at TRT World, expressed his appreciation for the move and said, “Afers, a Pakistani businessman entered the Turkish Embassy in the United States and donated $30 million himself anonymously. We don’t know who he is. His identity has not been revealed.”

    At dawn on February 6, an earthquake of 7.7 degrees struck southern Turkey and northern Syria, followed hours later by another with a magnitude of 7.6 and dozens of aftershocks, leaving huge losses of lives and property in both countries.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

    The death toll from the earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria has risen to more than 27,000, while the number of injured has reached more than 85,000, by Saturday evening.
