  • JK Traffic Dept Collects Nearly 100 Crore From Violators

    SRINAGAR: The traffic department of Jammu and Kashmir collected nearly a hundred crore rupees from the alleged violators in the last 5 years.

    The highest number of penalties has been recovered by the Traffic Police City Jammu. The official data reveals that for the last 5 years from 2018 to 2022, Traffic Police National Highway Ramban has realized a fine to the tune of over Rs 15 crores.

    Traffic Police City Jammu over Rs 38 crores, Traffic Police Rural Jammu over Rs 16 crores, Traffic Police City South Srinagar nearly Rs 16 crores while Traffic Rural Kashmir has realized a fine of Rs over 5 crores in a single year in 2022.

    The Traffic Department has made the data public in reply to the queries raised by an applicant.

    The information provided to the applicant reveals that not a single ambulance is in possession of Traffic Police National Highway Ramban, Traffic Police City Jammu, Traffic Police Rural Jammu, Traffic Police City South Srinagar and Traffic Rural Kashmir.

    The manpower in Traffic Department regulating traffic has also been witnessing a nose dive. Traffic Police City South in Srinagar had strength of 527 traffic police personnel in 2018 which came down to 500 in 2019,492 in 2020, 488 in 2021, and 466 in the year 2022.

    The deployment of traffic personnel has also witnessed a fall in Traffic Police City Jammu 463, Traffic Police Rural Jammu 324 including 84 SPOs, and Traffic Rural Kashmir 365. [KNT]

    SRINAGAR: Chief Secretary, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta on Wednesday launched 3 online services of the Revenue and Registration Departments.

    The services include Downloading of Registered Document, Aadhaar based authentication and online portal of Evacuee Property.

    The launch was attended by Financial Commissioner Revenue Shaleen Kabra, Commissioner Secretary IT Prerna Puri and Secretary Revenue Dr. Piyush Singla, IGR J&K Sheikh Arshad Ayub, Custodian General Rajesh Sharma and other officers of the Revenue Department.

    The feature of online downloading will enable citizens to have access to the copy of registered document immediately upon registration and thus, shall no longer have to visit the Sub Registrar Office on the next day to collect it. This shall save time and effort of the citizens as well as substantially reduce the burden on the official staff. This will further entail the change in PSGA timelines from 2 days to a single day.

    Aadhaar based authentication in document registration shall enable online identification of intending parties from the server of UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) and thereby eliminate the chances of fraud or impersonation and also rule out ‘benami’ transactions. In future, this will enable the department to dispense with the need of identifiers in registration and finally pave the way for e-registration.

    Chief Secretary was informed that the Registration portal namely NGDRS has already been integrated with key services such as PAN verification, Rapid Assessment System (RAS) and DigiLocker.

    While commending the Revenue Department on the achievement of important milestones, Chief Secretary stressed on strengthening the online portals so that citizens do not have to face any speed or connectivity related issues while uploading or downloading their documents. He further directed the Revenue Department to conduct a workshop for field functionaries of the Department and come up with a comprehensive roadmap for demystification of revenue terminology, so that it becomes accessible and understandable for the common man.

    He further directed the Department to expeditiously pursue the Scanning and Digitization of Legacy Registration data from the courts. He noted that online seeding of old registration data shall be a massive reform which shall hugely benefit the citizens in assurance of titles and can minimize the burden on the official machinery.

    Custodian General J&K gave a brief presentation on the launch of the Evacuee Property Portal jkcustodian.jk.gov.in which contains a database of all the evacuee property of the UT spread over 14 Lakh kanals, services such as e-auction of property, Issuance of NOCs, Change of use of property, Renewal of rent, transfer of allotment, etc.(GNS)

    SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired a meeting of Power Development Department to review power situation during the upcoming summer months, on Wednesday at Civil Secretariat.

    The meeting discussed the various aspects to meet the high electricity demand and a multi-pronged strategy to ensure adequate availability of power.

    The Lt Governor directed the officers to strictly implement the decisions taken in the earlier meetings to meet any peak demand and proactive actions for robust power distribution & transmission system.

    The Lt Governor also directed to launch a campaign against theft of electricity. He said cases of theft should be tackled on priority since it is an important aspect to ensure energy security to all.

    Sinha sought a detailed report on the ongoing power sector projects and schemes such as installation of pre-paid meters. He directed the officers to analyse all the issues such as manpower augmentation & rationalisation to provide better power services to the people of J&K.

    He further instructed to complete the augmentation and upgradation work of Grid stations on a war footing.

    A PowerPoint presentation was given by Sh. H. Rajesh Prasad, Principal Secretary, Power Development Department on actions taken on the directions during the previous review meeting.

    The Lt Governor also launched Real-Time Data acquisition system (RT-DAS). The system would provide real-time access to performance parameters pertaining to different feeders besides other benefits.

    Dr Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary; Sh. H. Rajesh Prasad, Principal Secretary, Power Development Department along with other senior officials attended the meeting.

    SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Wednesday ordered disengagement of three employees of ARTO Sopore on charges of corruption.

    An order issued by the Transport commissioner, read that In view of the recommendations made by the ARTO Baramulla conveyed by the RTO Kashmir vide No. RTOK/Estt/615-17dated 19-04-2023, the following consolidated workers are hereby disengaged with immediate effect.

    The employees were identified as Aijaz Ahmed Mir, Farooq Ahmed Wagay and Mohammad Ashraf Dar.

    Notably,three employees (consolidated) at ARTO office Sopore were arrested for taking bribe from the public visiting the office for obtaining Driving License, NOC, Registration of vehicles.

    SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha addressed the National Conference on ‘[email protected]’, today at the Convention Centre.

    The Conference was organized by IIM Jammu, IIT Jammu, AIIMS Jammu, in collaboration with Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DICCI) to deliberate upon priorities, prospects and way forward for creating an inclusive & sustainable society.

    “The aspirations of humanity can be fulfilled only in the conditions of peace. And, I strongly believe, ‘Ahimsa’ deeply rooted in our great civilization, is making the world realize the futility of conflict and utility of dialogue,” said the Lt Governor.

    During India’s G20 presidency, green, accelerated, inclusive & sustainable growth are top priorities and the world is looking at us with a hope to deal with the challenges of Covid, Climate Change and Conflict, observed the Lt Governor.

    “Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a new vision to the world that climate change cannot be fought from conference tables alone but It has to be fought from the dinner tables in every home. This will pave the way for sustainable & inclusive development,” the Lt Governor said.

    The Lt Governor stressed upon synergy between developmental activities and environment conservation to ensure global prosperity and better quality of life for all. He further observed that Ecological security will lead to economic security and strengthen our social development initiatives.

    “India will play the most important & constructive role for climate future and shape the action plan for mitigation, adaptation and environmental management systems. India will guide the world towards achieving the goal of environmentally sustainable development,” he said.

    The Lt Governor said that under the leadership of Prime Minister, India has given a new social model to the world for equitable development.

    Atma-Nirbhar Bharat, Make In India and Digital India have provided a robust framework for rapid and sustainable growth, he added.

    The Lt Governor also underscored the important role of premier institutions like IIM, IIT & AIIMS and the youth to provide future solutions to humanity.

    He further emphasized on exchange of best practices and increased cooperation between the countries for Digitally Empowered Society and Knowledge-based Economy.

    G20 represents 60% of the world population, accounts 85% of global GDP and 75% of global trade. I am confident that India’s G20 presidency will give new impetus to global relations and strengthen the spirit of “One Earth, One Family, One Future”, he added.

    Dr Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary also shared his views and highlighted the efforts to fulfil India’s G20 goals.

    SRINAGAR: At least seven shops and a residential house were gutted in a massive fire incident in Qalamabad village in Handwara area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

    Reports said that a fire broke out in a residential house this afternoon. The raging flames soon after spread to a shopping complex in proximity near Jamia Masjid Qalamabad.

    Responding to the exigency, Handwara Police and locals swung into action to douse off the flames. After hours of strenuous efforts, the blaze was controlled but not before it gutted at least seven shops and a double-storeyed residential house. Among the gutted shops included four of merchandise (Kiryana), two of hardware and one of a tailor. The residential house and the shopping complex are said to belong to one Ghulam Ahmad Najar.

    The fire also caused minor damage to the attic portion of the Jamia Masjid Qalamabad.

    Two civilians and a cop during the rescue operation suffered contusions and were administered with first aid at the site.

    Chairman Jamia Masjid Qalamabad, Abdul Ghani Reshi while extending his gratitude to Handwara Police and local administration alongside Army’s 30 RR said that the timely action from them prevented the fire from spreading further. The mosque head however castigated the local unit of F&ES Department for failing to act on time, which according to him led to escalation of the blaze.

    “We are highly thankful to Handwara Police, the local administration alongside Army’s 30 RR for their timely help and preventing the spread of fire”, he said adding “We however are highly agonized by the pathetic approach of the local F&ES Department unit which despite at a stone’s throw distance failed to perform its duty as otherwise expected.” (GNS)

    SRINAGAR: National Investigation Agency special court Jammu has issued non-bailable warrants against 23 militants in Kishtwar district operating from Pakistan.

    An official said that the warrants were issued against Manzoor Ahmed, Ghulam Mohd. Guijar, Nazir Ahmed, Shabir Ahmed, Mohd lgbal Rishi, Mohd Amin Bhat, Jamal Din Naik, Gh Hussain Sheikh, Bashir Ahmed Raina, Gulzar Ahmed, Shabbir Ahmed, Imtiyaz Ahmed, Bashir Ahmed, Mohd Shafi, Gh. Nabi Wani, Abdul Kareem, Gulabu, Farooq Ahmad Ganie, Mohd Haneef Sheikh, Mushtaq Ahmed, Mohd Irfan Khanday and Mohd Rafiq Khanday.

    He said the warrants have been issued in case FIR 90/2022 of PS Chatroo, under Section 120-B/121-A/IPC, 13/18/39/UAPA, 120B/121-A/IPC

    SSP Kishtwar Khalil Poswal said that chief investigation officer DySP PC Vishal Sharma approached the special NIA Court for issuing non-bailable warrants against the accused for their active involvement in militant activities for creating unrest in the Chenab valley and other parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

    He said they mobilised sleeper cells and pushed them into J&K in connivance with secessionist and separatist leaders for waging war against the Government of India with nefarious design of seceding Jammu and Kashmir from Union of India.

    The SSP said further investigation into the case is underway. (KNO)

    SRINAGAR: Chief Secretary, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta expressed confidence that India is more than capable of achieving its goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2070 and said that it is high time we shifted away from fossil fuels and made alternate sources our main energy providers.

    He was speaking at a workshop  organised by the Jammu & Kashmir Pollution Control Committee here at the Convention Centre.

    The interactive workshop on ‘Climate Change Mitigation and Green Financing for a Climate Resilient and Carbon Neutral J&K’ was attended by Dr.Mohit Gera, PCCF (HoFF), J&K Forest Department and Chairman, J&K Pollution Control Committee; Dr. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice Chancellor, Islamic University, Kashmir; HoDs of Forest Department, Dr. Ravindranath, renowned IPCC Author, and resource persons from MoEFCC, TERI, Earnest and Young Climate, World Resources Institute of India besides other eminent guests and environment experts.

    Dr Mehta appreciated the efforts of the Pollution Control Committee and Jammu & Kashmir Forest Department for organizing deliberations on Net Zero Carbon by 2070. He informed that J&K has already made a model by developing a climate resilient and carbon neutral Panchayat of village Palliin District Samba which is first of its kind in the country.

    According to Dr Mehta, Jammu & Kashmir has always been at the forefront of adopting flagship developmental schemes of the government.

    ‘The distinction of implementing the 75 Amrit Sarovars in each district amongst first in the entire country is a good example of how well J&K can adapt to the needs of the times with cooperation from its citizens. Similarly, schemes like “Har Gaon Hariyali”, “One Beat Guard, One village Program”, “Van Se Jal, Jal Se Jeevan” have been very effective in building in resilience and adaptation at village level.

    J&K has been a leader in adopting transformative steps in the overhaul of sports, agriculture, and tourism sectors in recent years. The Chief Secretary stated that we are planting more trees every year than ever before and this year over one and half crore trees are going to be planted again all over J&K.

    In terms of health infrastructure, Jammu & Kashmir ranks among the leading states of India. The Har Ghar Nal Se Jal scheme will also be fully implemented by the end of this financial year, he continued. The scheme aims to mitigate water supply challenges for the coming 50 years at least, in view of climate change.

    The Chief Secretary stressed the importance of communicating climate change adaptation measures to the masses in a way that creates a genuine connection with them. To achieve this goal, the Chief Secretary emphasized the need to communicate with the public at all levels, including panchayats, in ways that creates public ownership.

    The CS stressed that what is good for the environment is invariably good for the economy and society and underlined that infrastructure development of the states should not hamper our climate change mitigation steps.

    Also, the Chief Secretary urged the environmental experts present to work out environmental plans for Jammu & Kashmir for timely intervention on behalf of the UT administration. The Chief Secretary expressed hope that J&K will continue taking a lead in India’s fight against climate change even in the years ahead.

    SRINAGAR: The Badshah of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan is in Kashmir to shoot for a song sequence of his upcoming movie ‘Dunki’.

    The actor arrived in Kashmir on Monday and drove straight to Sonamarg where he was spotted entering a hotel.

    The crew on Wednesday started shooting for a song sequence in the Thajwas area of Sonamarg. The song is being choreographed by ace Choreographer Ganesh Acharaya.

    The four day shooting schedule of Dunki in the valley includes outdoor locales of Sonmarg and Dal Lake, media reports said.

    A huge crowd of Shah Rukh Khan’s fans have arrived on the spot and elaborate security arrangements have been put in place.

    After the record breaking success of Pathaan, the actor has two back to back releases, Dunki and Jawan in his kitty.

    Dunki is directed by RajKumar Hirani and is set to hit the theatre on December 22, 2023.
