Hyderabad: During the ongoing CB-CID investigation into the destruction of Waqf properties, shocking revelations have emerged that have left even the office bearers of the Waqf Board surprised. According to reports, the board’s silence and indifference regarding waqf properties has led to damage and land grabbers are attempting to seize 3630 square yards of land in Begum Bazar Kolsawadi through fake documents.
Waqf properties are considered as the Amanah (trust) of Allah, and it has been revealed that this property was obtained through fake documents and being declared as a purchase. Despite all details and documents of this disputed land being mentioned in the gazette with the Telangana State Waqf Board, the person occupying this property is claiming that the Waqf Board excluded this property from the Waqf in 1962. This claim has surprised Waqf Board officials, as no one has the power to exclude any land or property that has been dedicated from the Waqf.
Officials have confirmed that no such letters were issued by the Waqf Board in 1962, nor were any orders issued based on such letters. However, the claim is being made based on fake letters and orders. An attempt is being made to declare the disputed land as land purchased under the contract sale deed.
The gazette notification issued by the Government of Andhra Pradesh in 1985 after the Waqf survey confirms the presence of a total of 3630 square yards of land in entry number 1938. During the visit of CB-CID officials along with officials and employees of the Waqf Board, it was revealed that the property with the State Waqf Board is attached under TakiyaCharkodi and Dargah Syed Shah Bahadur Shah and Diwan Shah Wali, but some part of this property was occupied by the person who is in possession during the survey.
When asked to produce documents, the man handed over a letter dated October 25, 1962, to the office bearers, which the Board officials termed as fake, stating that the writing on the letter did not belong to the Board. Additionally, the letter was prepared in the name of Andhra Pradesh Muslim Waqf Board, which was not formed until 1969, and the letterpad has the Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board written on it, which proves the rigging in the preparation of the letter.
Begum Bazar is one of the most valuable areas in Hyderabad where property prices are skyrocketing, and the land in question is highly valuable. If the responsible Waqf Boards act immediately and take steps to protect this property, a significant increase in the Waqf Board’s income can be ensured. Neglecting this land will lead to the land grabbers staking a claim, and the Waqf Board may have to prove their property in court based on fake documents.
However, the situation demands immediate action by the Waqf Board to protect their properties from land grabbers and prevent further damage to Waqf properties. It is essential to take legal action against those who have been involved in this fraudulent activity to ensure that justice is served.

Jodhpur: The Rajasthan High Court on Monday granted bail to self-styled godman Asaram in a case pertaining to furnishing a forged RTI reply in the Supreme Court in support of his bail plea.
Granting bail to Asaram, Justice Kuldeep Mathur of the high court’s Jodhpur bench observed that no direct role was attributed to the petitioner in the creation of the forged RTI reply submitted before the apex court and the offences alleged to have been committed by him are triable by a magistrate.
Asaram is already serving a life sentence since 2018, following his conviction in a case of sexual exploitation of a minor student of his “gurukul”.
The court also took into account that co-accused Ravirai Marwah has already been granted bail and the trial is likely to go on for long.
The case was lodged against Asaram after Marwah, one of his sympathisers, submitted the forged RTI reply pertaining to the self-styled godman’s health condition in the Supreme Court for the purpose of his bail in 2016.
The document was allegedly obtained from a Jodhpur jail through an application filed under the the Right to Information (RTI) Act by one Ganesh Kumar and was provided to Marwah, who subsequently handed it to Asaram’s lawyer in the apex court.
On finding that the document was forged following an objection by the state government, the Supreme Court had directed police to file a case against Asaram and Marwah despite the self-styled godman tendering an apology in the court.
Asaram’s counsel Gokulesh Bohra said police had arrested Asaram in the case from the Jodhpur jail on a production warrant and filed a chargesheet against the two.
“While Marwah has already been granted bail, we also argued in the court that Asaram has already been in judicial custody in another criminal case for the last 10 years and he is not allowed to meet devotees and other visitors in the absence of the jail authorities,” Bohra said.
He further told the court that the petitioner could not have had any opportunity to prepare a fake document and was only a signatory to the vakalatnama filed before the Supreme Court for bail.
Direct ancestors of King Charles III and the royal family bought and exploited enslaved people on tobacco plantations in Virginia, according to new research shared with the Guardian.
A document discovered in archives reveals that a direct ancestor of the king was involved in buying at least 200 enslaved people from the Royal African Company (RAC) in 1686.

The document instructs a ship’s captain to deliver the enslaved Africans to Edward Porteus, a tobacco plantation owner in Virginia, and two other men. Porteus’s son, Robert, inherited his father’s estate before moving his family to England, in 1720. Later a direct descendant, Frances Smith, married the aristocrat Claude Bowes-Lyon. Their granddaughter was Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, the late queen mother.
The documents establishing these royal roots were found by the researcher Desirée Baptiste, while investigating links between the Church of England and enslavers in Virginia, for a play she has written.
The revelation follows the Guardian’s publication of a document earlier this month that linked the slave trader Edward Colston to the British monarchy. The latest discovery, which Baptiste made deep in the RAC archives, reveals a direct line up the Windsor family tree to the trafficking of enslaved Africans.
The RAC, which traded almost 180,000 enslaved people, was granted royal charters by successive English kings. In the newly published document, senior RAC officials, describing themselves as “your loving friends”, instructed the captain of a ship to deliver “negroes” to Edward Porteus.

“You are with your first opportunity of wind and weather that God shall send after receipt hereof to sett sail out of the River of Thames on the Shipp of Speedwell and make the best of your way to James Island on the River of Gambia,” the instruction stated. It added: “ … our said Agent to put aboard the Shipp Two Hundred Negroes and as many more as he shall get ready and the ship can conveniently carry … and then proceed … to Potomac River in Maryland, and deliver them to Mr Edward Porteus, Mr Christopher Robinson and Mr Richard Gardiner.”
The will of Edward Porteus, another document examined by Baptiste, referred to “negroes”, whom he left to his son Robert. Edward Porteus also left to his wife, Margaret, “my negroe girl Cumbo”.
Virginia is a landmark state in the history of US slavery, because of an infamous landing of enslaved African people at Jamestown in 1619. Laws developed in the state to maintain slavery and crush uprisings included whipping, and dismembering people by cutting off a foot. A study of these laws states that: “A slave giving false evidence would … receive his 39 lashes and then have his ears nailed to the pillory for half an hour, after which they would be cut off.”
An uprising by enslaved people in 1663 in Gloucester County, where Porteus was based, was mercilessly put down, according to an account by the Colonial Willamsburg Foundation: “Several bloody heads dangled from local chimney tops as a gruesome warning to others.”
Earlier this month, in response to the Guardian’s reporting, Charles signalled for the first time his support for research into the links between the British monarchy and the transatlantic slave trade.
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said at the time that Charles took “profoundly seriously” the issue of slavery, which he has described as an “appalling atrocity”. Support for the research was part of Charles’s process of deepening his understanding of “slavery’s enduring impact”, the spokesperson said, which had “continued with vigour and determination” since his accession.
Race equality and reparations campaigners told the Guardian that while they mostly welcomed the support for research, they believed Charles must go further, and acknowledge the established history now.
A palace spokesperson said in response to questions about the Windsor family’s heritage in Virginia that they were unable to comment until after the coronation. A spokesperson explained that the media operation was under “intense pressure” dealing with global interest in the coronation.

However, last week the bishop of London, Sarah Mullally, issued an apology relating to the same Virginia family. A son of Robert Porteus by a second marriage, a lineage separate from the royal family, was Beilby Porteus, who was bishop of London for 22 years from 1787. In January, Fulham Palace Trust, which maintains the historic London bishops’ residence, published research on the Porteus plantations. It acknowledged that Bishop Porteus and a brother inherited their father’s large Virginia estate, and continued to profit from it as “absentee plantation owners and enslavers”.
Mullally marked the opening of a new Fulham Palace exhibition on transatlantic slavery and resistance by issuing an apology relating in part to Porteus. “I am profoundly sorry for the harm that was inflicted by my predecessors through their involvement with the transatlantic slave trade,” Mullally said in a statement. “It continues to be a source of great shame to us as a diocese.”
Quick Guide
What is Cost of the crown?
Show
Cost of the crown is an investigation into royal wealth and finances. The series, published ahead of the coronation of King Charles III, is seeking to overcome centuries of secrecy to better understand how the royal family is funded, the extent to which individual members have profited from their public roles, and the dubious origins of some of their wealth. The Guardian believes it is in the public interest to clarify what can legitimately be called private wealth, what belongs to the British people, and what, as so often is the case, straddles the two.

In the play that Baptiste developed from her historical research, the lead character calls on Charles to apologise for the monarchy’s institutional and family involvement in transatlantic slavery.
“The Royal African Company document shows the current king’s direct ancestor trafficking newly arrived Africans, and profiting from the confiscated lives of enslaved people, like the ‘Negroe girl Cumbo’ left in Edward’s will,” Baptiste said. “This means the royal links to slavery are more than just institutional, they are in their family heritage.”
Prof Trevor Burnard, the director of the Wilberforce Institute for the Study of Slavery and Emancipation at the University of Hull, said: “Charles has given an encouraging response to further research, and this new information shows that further research should be done, showing how extensive the links are of the royal family, aristocracy and all parts of Britain, to slavery.”

POLITICO obtained a copy of the letter sent to House Intelligence Committee Chair Mike Turner (R-Ohio). Tim Parlatore, one of the letter’s signatories, told POLITICO that it was also sent to House Intel Democrats and to Republicans and Democrats on the Senate Intelligence Committee. The letter was first reported by CNN.
“Please know that despite the differences in the cases, we do not believe that any of these three matters should be handled by DOJ as a criminal case,” Trump’s lawyers wrote. “Rather, the stakeholders to these matters should set aside political differences and work together to remediate this issue and help to enhance our national security in the process.”
The letter said two of Trump’s lawyers, Parlatore and Jim Trusty, reviewed 15 boxes of documents that were taken to Mar-a-Lago after Trump left the White House and then later sent to the National Archives.
“Following its review of the materials, NARA inserted placeholder pages where it had removed documents with classification markings,” reads the letter, signed by Parlatore, Trusty, John Rowley and Lindsey Halligan. “That allowed Messrs. Parlatore and Trusty to discern what the documents were, as well as what other materials in the boxes were in the proximity of the marked documents when the White House staff packed them. The vast majority of the placeholder inserts refer to briefings for phone calls with foreign leaders that were located near the schedule for those calls.”
The appearance of documents marked classified at Mar-a-Lago, the lawyers continue, was “the result of haphazard records keeping and packing by White House staff and GSA.”

“There are military members serving today from Georgia and other places who are less safe because of what this airman did,” Graham said on ABC’s “This Week.” “There is no justification for this, and for any member of Congress to suggest it’s OK to leak classified information because you agree with the cause is terribly irresponsible and puts America in serious danger.”
Teixiera, a member of the Massachusetts National Guard, is accused of uploading dozens of secret documents detailing sensitive intelligence and defense information on the social media website Discord. He was arraigned in a Boston court on Friday, charged with unauthorized retention and transmission of classified national defense information.
The leak is seen as potentially having serious implications for Ukrainians on the battlefield and has frustrated several U.S. allies.
Graham, who was speaking from Israel after wrapping up a trip to Saudi Arabia, said the leak has been “very damaging” in the region.
“There’s information about the air defense capability of the Ukraine and everybody in the region [is] really worried because who wants to share information with the United States if you’re gonna read about it in the paper or find it on the internet? This has done a lot of damage to us in the region,” Graham said.

Senior officials inside the national security apparatus were briefed on the documents on April 6, the same day the leak was first reported by The New York Times, according to two other senior U.S. officials. And the Biden administration began looking into the leak only last week.
The delay has current and former officials asking why the breach went unnoticed for so long. And it suggests that there may be a large online blind spot in the U.S. intelligence gathering process.
“Federal government agencies do not proactively monitor online forums looking for threat-related activity,” said John Cohen, the former acting undersecretary for intelligence and analysis at the Department of Homeland Security. “If a person or entity were to post classified information on one of those forums, there’s a high likelihood that government officials would not detect it.”
Officials at the top ranks of the Pentagon, the intelligence community and at the Department of Justice are still scrambling to understand who first leaked the documents, how many classified U.S. documents may still be circulating and why they went unnoticed.
Current and former officials said while each agency is responsible for investigating breaches of intelligence within their own departments, there is no one office that is responsible for monitoring, for example, social media sites for classified leaks.
The Central Intelligence Agency, the National Security Council, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Pentagon declined to comment.
The U.S. government — including the Pentagon and agencies in the intelligence community — maintains that it does not spy on Americans, and there’s an argument that monitoring these online forums — even for illegally leaked materials — could be considered just that.
“Do we really want the government monitoring everything said on social media sites? The answer to that is no. If you do that, you automatically get into civil liberties issues,” said a former U.S. intelligence official familiar with the document probe. “We haven’t yet figured out a way to square that circle between on the one hand protecting people’s rights to speak and on the other hand finding out what’s going on.”
Cohen argued this leak is a potential crime and threat to national security that means the First Amendment may not apply. “Depending on the circumstances, it is possibly illegal and likely not considered protected speech,” he said.
It’s still unclear exactly when the original leak took place and who is responsible for disseminating the classified material. But the story of how the documents ended up online in recent days, including on Twitter and Telegram, can be traced back to a small group of users on the messaging app known as Discord, a platform popular with gamers.
Members of a now-defunct server on Discord first began seeing sensitive government information about global topics, including about the war in Ukraine, this winter, according to two people who viewed content from that group.
One of the users of the group — who has since deleted his profile — first started posting the information in written, summary form sometime in the winter. Weeks later, beginning in January, the user began to post images of what appeared to be internal U.S. classified documents that had been printed and folded in half. Some of them were labeled “Secret” and “Top Secret.”
Weeks later, in March, one of the users from the Discord server reposted the images on a second group on the platform known as WowMao.
“He posted 30 plus … documents concerning the Russia-Ukraine war,” said the person who started that group, a well-known Filipino YouTuber named Mao. Mao described his server as “edgy” and said the person who posted the documents might have been trying to be “cool” or “funny.”
“He must have been around circles where there were hackers,” Mao said. “There are Discord servers where people post hacks they found and stuff they found off the dark web and they are only shared within those circles. And sometimes stuff gets leaked out from there.”
After being posted on WaoMao, the documents appeared on other social media sites including Twitter, Telegram and 4Chan. At least one of the images that appeared on those sites was altered to show higher Ukrainian and lower Russian death totals.
Over the past several years, multiple government agencies have become aware of the potential upside of monitoring specific online forums, Cohen said. The problem, however, is that there are certain legal limitations on what government officials can do to track Americans’ social media activity.
The FBI is allowed to go onto social media sites and other online forums to monitor activity when it has opened a specific case, Cohen said. The Department of Homeland Security can also monitor certain online activity — but only on forums that are open to the public. The intelligence community can also monitor social media messages, as well as other communications, of foreigners.
But in this case, the individual was not threatening acts of violence and there aren’t signs that the person was known to law enforcement for any other reason.
Various agencies throughout the U.S. government often communicate with social media platforms about content that deals with everything from misinformation and disinformation to election security, hate speech and posts that threaten violence. But it is unclear the extent to which the government asks companies to remove specific content from their sites, and whether companies comply.
Discord said in an emailed statement that in regard to the breach of classified material, the company is “cooperating with law enforcement.”
“When we are made aware of content that violates our policies, our safety team investigates and takes the appropriate action, including banning users, shutting down servers and engaging with law enforcement,” said Discord spokesperson Madeline Sarver, adding that the company uses a “mix of proactive and reactive tools” to keep content that violates its policy off the platform.
Officials in Washington are wary of developing methods that would allow them to detect and analyze threats online — a stance that has sometimes disturbed lawmakers.
In a House congressional hearing in December with Ken Wainstein, the head of DHS’s office of intelligence and analysis, Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) said she was frustrated that she and other people in her state had to learn about threats posed by right-wing extremists from outside the government.
“My district is where the raids happened for the plot to kidnap and kill my governor. But the government agencies — I understand it is a sensitive issue — but I couldn’t feel more strongly about the importance of you all getting left and right limits, getting really clear about it and then coming up to proactively talk to us about this issue,” Slotkin said. “No one wants to go after someone for free speech, but when you have double the incidents of antisemitism in my state, the question remains what is my government doing to help?”
Cohen argued that the government needs to find a way to more closely monitor activity online that does not threaten acts of violence or relate to terrorism but may still be illegal, such as the leaking of classified information. But he said that leaning on research or academic institutions that track illicit activity on the internet may be an easier path than asking law enforcement or intelligence agencies to do the monitoring.
In recent days, officials inside the Biden administration have also faced tough questions from allies about how the leak occurred and why the U.S. is just now racing to investigate. U.S. officials have also discussed with allies in Europe and Kyiv whether it plans to restrict the dissemination of classified intelligence about the war in Ukraine.
Top officials at the Pentagon and National Security Council have not answered detailed questions from the podium since the leaked documents appeared, but have said they take the leak seriously and are still investigating. NBC News reported Wednesday the administration is considering changing the way it tracks social media content.
It’s unclear exactly how many documents have circulated online since the original posting on Discord. Many of the users and servers where they first appeared have since vanished. But one person who viewed the documents on the original Discord server said they believe there are perhaps dozens of additional classified documents that have not been made public.
The winding trajectory of how the classified documents spread through social media is likely muddying the investigation into the leak.
“This is not your typical leak where it goes to the media or to a foreign power,” the former U.S. intelligence official said. “It’s going to make it a bit of a challenge for the FBI to try to figure out what’s going on here.”
Alexander Ward and Mohar Chatterjee contributed to this report.
