    SRINAGAR: The authorities on Thursday issued avalanche warming to eight districts of Jammu and Kashmir amid inclement weather conditions.

    According to a communique, Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority said avalanche with low danger level is likely to occur above 2400 to 3200 metres above sea level in Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch, Ramban, Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora districts.

    The communique also reads that avalanche with medium danger level is likely to occur above 2800 metres in Ganderbal district in the next 24 hours.

    “People living in these areas are advised to take precautions and avoid venturing in the avalanche prone areas till further orders,” it reads.

    People living in these areas have been in the meantime advised to take precautions and avoid venturing in the avalanche prone areas till further orders. (GNS)

    Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Police on Sunday conducted a flag march and patrolled various districts in the state after mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf were shot dead in Prayagraj.

    While speaking to ANI, the Mau Superintendent of Police Avinash Pandey said,” We are keeping vigil. After looking at the sensitivity of the situation in the district we are on alert. We are talking to the public to maintain peace”.

    In the aftermath of the incident, UP Police also conducted a flag march in Lucknow’s Husainabad.

    Police were also seen patrolling in Mathura.

    According to UP police officials, security has been beefed up in various districts after the incident.
    Police also conducted a patrol in Ayodhya, officials informed.

    Uttar Pradesh Government on Sunday imposed Section 144 of CrPC in all the districts, in the aftermath of Atiq Ahmed, Ashraf Ahmed being shot dead in Prayagraj, officials informed.

    “After the simultaneous killing of mafia Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf, police will be deployed in Prayagraj, especially the old areas of the city,” police officials informed.

    UP Police officials also mentioned that a Rapid Action force is being deployed in the Prayagraj to maintain high security.

    In view of the tension, we have increased vigilance,” the official said.

    “Rapid Action Force has been called. Police are arranging security by dividing Prayagraj city into several zones,” he added.

    Days after Atiq Ahmed’s son Asad was killed in an encounter in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi, the mafia-turned-politician and his brother Ashraf Ahmed were killed on Saturday while being taken for a medical in Prayagraj.

    Atiq Ahmed was accused in the 2005 BSP MLA Raju Pal murder case and also in the Umesh Pal murder case which happened in February this year.

    UP Police so far has arrested a total of 3 shooters in this incident.

    In the aftermath of the incident, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered a high-level inquiry into the matter.

    “CM Yogi immediately called a high-level meeting and ordered a high-level inquiry into the whole matter. Chief Minister also gave instructions for the formation of a three-member Judicial Commission (Judicial Inquiry Commission) in the matter,” officials said.

    Reacting sharply to the incident, AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi said that this incident is a perfect example of the Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi’s failure on law and order system in the state.

    Asaduddin Owaisi took to Twitter and said,” Atiq and his brother were in police custody. He was handcuffed. JSR slogans were also raised. The killing of both is the failure of Yogi’s law and order system. Those celebrating encounter Raj are also responsible for this murder”.

  • Emergency Operation Centers To Be Set Up In All Districts Of JK

    SRINAGAR: In order to minimize the damage caused by the earthquakes and other natural disasters, the Jammu and Kashmir government is planning to set up state-of-art Emergency Operation Centers (EOC) in all 20 districts, as per media reports.

    The moves will minimise the damage caused by the natural disasters as the UT falls in the earthquake zone 1V and V and is highly prone to flood damage, according to a government statement.

    The government of Jammu and Kashmir has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with NDMA, Government of India for the implementation of an Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) to coordinate disaster calls in Dial No 112, ANI reported.

    The process of construction of the EOC has been started in Budgam district which will have a complete disaster management plan under National Disaster Management Plan (NDMP) 2019 and it will be implemented in all districts.

    Detailed attention will be paid to disaster risk prevention, mitigation initiatives and guidelines, building the capacity of all stakeholders in UT to deal with disasters and promoting community-based disaster management and roles for all relevant stakeholders and defining responsibilities with clarity.

    For capacity building, around 1.5 lakh community volunteers will be engaged in three phases including 15,000 volunteers in the first phase, 35,000 volunteers in the second phase and 1, 00,000 volunteers in the third phase.

    The survey report states that the focus is on building the capacity of all stakeholders to respond promptly to disasters in a planned manner so as to reduce loss of life and economic losses in various forms.

    ANI reported that hazard mapping, hazard assessment, and impact assessment will be standardized for different sectors and regions while emphasis will be placed on forecasting and early warning of various meteorological events and hazards.

    The Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction is working on identifying various hazards that threaten the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.

    Lucknow: Ten districts in Uttar Pradesh will soon get Sanskrit medium secondary schools.

    The 10 districts are Varanasi, Rae Bareli, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Moradabad, Shamli, Jalaun, Etah, Amethi, and Hardoi.

    This is a part of an initiative of the state government to promote Sanskrit education in Uttar Pradesh.

    At present, there is only one government Sanskrit secondary and one government Sanskrit degree college that are operating in the entire state.

    All other such institutions are being run privately.

    The establishment of new Uttar Madhyama (intermediate-level) Sanskrit schools is among the top priorities of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

    After getting an in-principle consent from the state government, the officials of the state directorate of education have formally requested for the allocation of funds towards the construction of these new Sanskrit schools, said a state government spokesman.

    The state government had made a provision of Rs 100 crore in the 2023-24 budget.

    Meanwhile, it is also gearing up to open Government Sanskrit Secondary Schools of intermediate level in another five districts of Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Chitrakoot and Mathura, which are being developed as the key religious centres.

    SRINAGAR: With many aged parents being abandoned by their children in Kashmir, the government has decided to come up with old age homes in all districts so as to provide shelter to those in need.

    Many such homes for the destitute and abandoned senior citizens have already been established in around seven districts of Kashmir.

    Mohammad Ashraf Akhoon, deputy director, Social Welfare department Kashmir said that among 10 districts in Kashmir, old age homes have been already started in seven and will be established in the remaining few also very soon.

    He further added that there are two types of homes for elderly, daycare and residential. Daycare homes have been set up in some districts and residential in few, he said.

    “As of now,  we have good response in day care old age homes with hundreds of senior citizens coming every day; however, the response in residential homes is meager as just few have come in residential old age homes yet,” he said, adding that  residential old age homes have just one or two admissions.”

    Maintaining that  daycare homes allow them to express themselves,  Akhoon Ashraf said that elderly people here enjoy each other’s company ,   talk to each other and they get a platform to share ideas with each other.

    “The day cares are a good source of recreation for the elderly people of our society who either are abandoned by their children or want to spend some good time at these centers,” Akhoon Ashraf said, adding they are using library, read newspapers, sip tea together and take part in other recreational facilities.

    “Anybody who needs shelter in these homes must contact concerned district social welfare officer. They will be admitted in these old age homes immediately,” he said.

    Mumbai: The Congress’ Maharashtra unit on Sunday carried out vociferous protests in all districts in the state gainst the Bharatiya Janata Party for the disqualification of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha.

    The protests were led by state President Nana Patole from Nagpur, Congress Legislative Party Leader Balasaheb Thorat, other senior leaders, Regional Working President Naseem Khan, and Mumbai party chief Bhai Jagtap.

    They raised slogans against the ruling BJP at the Centre and said that this was “a murder of democracy”, but the Congress would not be cowed down and would continue its “struggle for freedom from the BJP’s dictatorship”.

    Patole, Thorat, Khan, Chavan and other leaders said that Gandhi is being punished for raising the burning issues concerning the people, and exposing the “corrupt nexus” between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his “industrialist friends”.

    They also demanded a probe into how and whose ill-gotten wealth had gone into one industrialist’s companies and why the Centre is scared of Gandhi’s revelations on them.

    The Congress state, cities and district units carried out a daylong ‘satyagraha’ across the state, and in Pune, a signature campaign in Gandhi’s favour was launched, while in other places, the protestors sported black badges and masks amid other forms of protests.

    The agitation was spearheaded by Patole, Thorat, Khan, Jagtap, ex-CM Prithviraj Chavan, Vilas Muttemwar, Rajendra Mulak, Wajahat Mirza, and Madhu Chavan, who said that “today’s Satyagraha is the beginning of a new revolution for freedom from dictatorship”.
