Hyderabad: Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari on Thursday directed the district collectors to prepare an action plan for the implementation of the Telangana government’s sheep distribution scheme’s second phase.

In a video conference with the collectors, CS Kumari asked them to create a plan for the collection of sheep units, transportation, and collection of deposits from the beneficiaries.

“The sheep distribution program should be organised under the leadership of the collectors. The plan should be prepared in accordance with the target of distributing sheep to 3.38 lakh people in the second phase,” added the chief secretary.

  • Stampede at food distribution centre kills 11 in Pakistan’s Karachi city

Stampede at food distribution centre kills 11 in Pakistan’s Karachi city

    [ad_1]

Karachi: At least 11 people, including women and children, were killed and several others injured in a deadly stampede at a Ramzan food distribution centre in Pakistan’s port city of Karachi on Friday, officials said.

The stampede took place after some people unknowingly stepped on a live wire where food was being distributed, leading to the tragedy.

Soon, people started pushing each other, due to which some even fell into a nearby drain, police said.

At least 11 people, including women and children, died in the stampede and several others were injured.

“Initially two persons were electrocuted after stepping on the live wire and that led to panic and stampede,” SSP Ameerullah told PTI.

“Two children and two women fell in a drain when its wall collapsed due to the rush of the people,” he said.

At least 11 other people, including women, have died while trying to get free flour from government distribution outlets in Pakistan’s Punjab province in recent days.

With the latest incident in Karachi, the death toll from stampedes across free food centres in Pakistan has risen to at least 22.

The free food distribution initiative was launched by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif last week at a time when the country is in the midst of a severe economic crisis.

Pakistan has been negotiating with the IMF for the release of a USD 1.1 billion bailout package since February but has so far met with little success due to the stringent conditions imposed by the Washington-based lender.

The funds are part of a USD 6.5 billion bailout package the IMF approved in 2019, which analysts say is critical if Pakistan is to avoid defaulting on external debt obligations.

The weekly inflation level in Pakistan has touched an all-time high of 45 per cent.

Pakistan is scrambling to increase its forex reserves, which are currently estimated to be at USD 4.2 billion, according to the country’s central bank.

  • Free ration distribution for ration card holders to begin before Holi; Check full details

    [ad_1]

New Delhi, Mar, 02: Free ration scheme under NFSA to distribute wheat, rice, millet and sugar.

The Free Ration Scheme 2023 is a lifeline for the poor across India. With the National Food Security Act (NFSA), the government is providing free ration to over 80 crore people in the country until December 2023. The good news is that all ration card holders will receive free ration before Holi 2023. The government has issued a letter to this effect, announcing that in addition to wheat and rice, millet will also be distributed for free, and sugar will be provided to Antyodaya card holders.

The distribution of free ration (wheat-rice-millet) will commence on March 5, 2023, and will continue until March 20, 2023, in Uttar Pradesh. Eligible household cardholders will receive 5 kg of free ration (2 kg wheat, 2 kg rice, and 1 kg millet) per unit, while Antyodaya card holders will receive 35 kg (14 kg wheat, 20 kg rice, and 1 kg millet) for free. Wheat-rice was already distributed in the previous month.

Antyodaya card holders will also receive 3 kg of sugar during the first three months of this year (January-February and March). The cardholder will have to pay Rs 18 per kg and Rs 54 for 3 kg, and the amount should be paid separately. Ration distribution will be done once a month, and in March, cardholders will receive ration (wheat-rice-millet) for that month.

Unfortunately, the delay in lifting caused the ration to be distributed late in the state. However, the government ensures that under NFSA, free ration will be available to all cardholders across the country until December 2023. The Free Ration Scheme 2023 has been a boon for millions of people, providing them with much-needed relief during these difficult times.

  • Calcutta HC questions irrational posting, distribution of Bengal teachers

Calcutta HC questions irrational posting, distribution of Bengal teachers

    [ad_1]

Kolkata: A single-judge bench of the Calcutta High Court on Friday questioned the “irrational” distribution of postings of teachers in different state-run schools in West Bengal where schools with adequate number of students have an inadequate number of teachers while those with fewer students have too many teachers.

During the course of hearing on a matter relating to teachers’ transfers, it came to the notice of Justice Biswajit Basu of Calcutta High court that a school in Kolkata- adjacent Howrah district having a total student strength of 13 has five teachers.

This is in sharp contrast to another school in the same district, where only eight teachers are catering to a total student strength of 550. This school is running without any proper teacher for crucial subjects like mathematics and geography.

Expressing regret over this irrational teacher to student ratio in schools, Justice Basu also questioned the requirement of running schools with such few numbers of students. He also questioned whether it is not better to withdraw the recognition of such schools and transfer the teachers posted there to schools without adequate teaching staff.

The counsel for the state education department said that there can be problems if such a step is taken since there can be political pressures in the matter.

“Forget about the political pressures. There is an urgent requirement of improving the academic grades of the schools. Why can’t we think of model schools? There are girls’ schools in the state which neither have adequate teachers nor security staff and not even proper toilets. How can one remain silent in such a situation?” Justice Basu questioned them.

Advising the state education system to introduce a proper and transparent transfer policy, Justice Basu said that teachers who refuse to abide by the transfer policy should be denied their salary from the next month.

“We will have to first think of the interest of the students. I know that changing the process is time consuming. But we will have to achieve it,” Justice Basu observed.
