  • Mughal road accident: Bodies of Dir Finance, son recovered

    Jammu, July 10 (GNS): Bodies of Ranbir Singh Bali, Director of Finance, Forest, Ecology and Environment Department, and son were recovered from a gorge near Pannar bridge along Mughal road on Monday.

    Official sources told GNS that the accident took place at 1940 hours yesterday when a swift car (JK02BD -4635) on way to Surankote from Kashmir Valley via Mughal road. Three among those travelling in the car died on the spot and another was injured and evacuated to nearby hospital by rescuers including locals and police.

    The deceased included Ranbir Singh Bali (Director of Finance, Forest, Ecology and Environment Department), his wife Parvinder Kour and son Irvan Singh. Condition of his daughter Mahreen Kour  is stated to be out of danger. Later, they said, body of Parvinder Kour was retrieved but that of Bali and Irvan Singh could not be recovered immediately, they said. This morning,  they said, both bodies were recovered by locals, police, SDRF, DGPC Poonch and army’s 16RR after hectic efforts.

  • Dir Agriculture inaugurates Hi-tech poly-house, mushroom units at Rawanpora Tangmarg

    SRINAGAR, APRIL 26:  The Director Agriculture Kashmir Chowdhury Mohammad Iqbal today Inaugurated a Hi-tech poly-house and two mushroom units at Rawalpora,  Sub-division  Tangmarg district Baramulla. 

    During his visit to the sub- division he took stock of the agriculture scenario in the area.

    Speaking to the farmers of different areas, the sub-division Director said that the department is working on an ambitious plan of providing farmers with round the year availability of seedlings of different vegetable crops. 

    He said to achieve this goal the department has established hi-tech polyhouses in all the districts of Kashmir division.

     Dir also highlighted the Importance of integrated farming and asked the farmers to diversify their agriculture operations.

    He asked the concerned officers to guide the farmers during their preparation of paddy nurseries and during the pre and post harvest operations of oil seed ( Mustard ) crop.

     He asked the farmers that the department would provide all the technical assistance to them in comprehensively performing their agriculture activities.

    Later,  Dir Agriculture visited some progressive agri- entrepreneurs in the area who have established their integrated farm units.

     He held interactions with these agri-preneurs and took feedback from them. 

    Director was accompanied by deputy director planning Mohammad Younis Chowdhury and some other offices of the department.

    Complaint against Telangana Health Dir for ‘unscientific’ claims

    Hyderabad: The Forum for Good Governance on Tuesday sent a complaint to the Telangana chief secretary against the Telangana Director of the Medical and Health department Dr. G Srinivasa Rao, stating that he is “unfit for the position due to his unscientific views” about medicine. 

    The letter by the FFGG secretary Padmanabha Reddy pointed out that in the past the Telangana Director of Medical and Health department had made several statements indicating his unscientific views and “lack of faith” in modern medicine. 

    The letter also alleged that Rao is making the comments in “bad taste”, seeking limelight amid the rumours that he is going to enter politics soon.

    “During Christmas celebrations he stated in full public glare that Covid-19 is controlled in the state because of the grace of god (Jesus) and not because of mass vaccination program of the government,” stated the letter. It also said that Rao’s comments are an insult to the massive vaccination program taken up by the Telangana government. 

    Forum For Good Governance also recalled that the the Health Director’s statements from February 12 that he grew up under the influence of Naxalites in the Badrachalam area.  “Rao said that he held the stethoscope by mistake. If I were to hold a gun, I would have been killed by now, he stated,” wrote the FFGG secretary in the letter. 

    Padmanabh Reddy also stated that on April 17, during an iftar dinner after offering namaz, Rao said that in his childhood he suffered an injury after which when he was taken to a hospital where the doctors opined that “only god could help him”. The letter said that Dr Rao said that his grandfather took him to a Masjid where the Moulana “tied him a tayath“. 

    “He stated that he is in the post of the health director because of the divine powers of the tayath,” said the complaint letter from Forum For Good Governance. It also stated that Rao’s statements such as
    “Jesus alone controlled COVID-19” and that the “tayath cured him the when doctors could not help” sends wrong signals about medical and health activities of the government.

    “If he has no faith in the modern medicine he is unfit to hold the post of Director of Health,” said Padmanabh Reddy’s letter. The FFGG requested that Rao be removed from his post and replaced by a suitable person in his place.

    SRINAGAR: As the tulip bloom is almost over, authorities have decided to close the garden for the general public from Friday.

    Director Floriculture Kashmir in a statement said that the Tulip garden shall remain closed for general public from Friday.

    “As the Tulip Bloom is almost over, the Tulip Garden, Srinagar shall remain closed for general public w. e. f  21.04.2023, ” it said.

    A record 3.65 lakh tourists including locals had visited the garden since its opening on March 19.

    SRINAGAR: Following the completion of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) and its calibration, Srinagar airport authorities are expecting the commissioning of the new ILS CAT II by mid-July this year.

    Director Srinagar International Airport Kuldeep Singh Rishi told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the installation process of ILS Cat II has been completed. He said the approach procedure designing process will commence in mid-May and the commissioning of the new ILS CAT II is expected by mid-July.

    “The installation of ILS Cat II has already been completed and the calibration of this new system has also been completed on March 30 this year. The ILS approach procedure designing process will commence in mid-May, and the commissioning of new ILS CAT II is expected by mid-July,” he said.

    As per the officials, the upgradation of ILS CAT II will ensure that flight operations are undertaken in low visibility, particularly during foggy weather conditions.

    For the past several years, people have been demanding the installation of the latest ILS at the airport, and with the new ILS CAT II in place, it is believed that with the new functionality, the visibility threshold would increase to 600 meters and help in smooth night landings as well.

    The CAT-II or CAT-III facility is a radio navigation system that provides guidance to aircraft to approach a runway at night or in bad weather.

    It is pertinent to mention here that a Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism, and Culture in its report had flayed the government for the non-availability of the latest Instrument Landing System (ILS) CAT-II or CAT-III at the Srinagar International Airport. (KNO)

    Srinagar, Mar 14: Mission Director, Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihood Mission (JKRLM), Indu Kanwal Chib on Tuesday said that 40,000 women in Jammu & Kashmir are ‘lakhpati’ as they earn over Rs one lakh a year and that under the supervision of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, a big e-commerce platform will soon be started for the women entrepreneurs in the Union Territory.

    Talking to the reporters, Chib, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that the J&KRLM is going to organize an 11-day National level fair SARAS (Sale of Articles and Rural Artisan Society) from tomorrow on the banks of world famous Dal Lake Near Ghat No- 8 Boulevard Road.

    She said that such events are being organized frequently outside J&K, but in the UT, the frequency was too low. However, we have started organizing such events and after Jammu, the event will be organized from tomorrow in Kashmir as well. SARAS is a marketing strategy for the rural artisans to sell their products,” she said.

    Under the UMEED scheme, she said that there are many platforms where the women are being skilled in both farm and non-farm skills.

    At present, Self help groups of 78000 people have been engaged, she said that there are many entrepreneurs in J&K. “For me, those selling milk at home are also entrepreneurs. 40,000 women are lakhati as they are earning more than one lakh a year and 65 per cent among them are entrepreneurs,” she said.

    “The time has changed as the women are not behind the men. From drivers to carpenters, women can do everything. But, it is not a race,” she said while replying to a query.

    She further said that under UMEED scheme, a big e-commerce platform is being made available under the supervision of Lieutenant Governor and that the work is already going on with ‘Meesho’—(KNO)
