Wipro’s Q4 results: Will buyback prevent share price drop? Stocks dip 27 pc in 1 year

    [ad_1]

Wipro, Indian multinational corporation that specializes in information technology, consulting, and business process services, is set to announce its Q4 results today along with a proposed share buyback program.

With Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Infosys both missing street estimates in their Q4 results, investors are cautious about Wipro’s performance. The big question on everyone’s mind is whether the proposed buyback program will prevent a further drop in Wipro’s share price, which has declined by over 27 percent in the past year.

Outcome of the Wipro Board Meeting

Wipro’s two-day board meeting began yesterday, during which they were expected to consider a proposal for a share buyback program. The outcome of the board meeting will be announced today along with the Q4 results.

In a statement to the stock exchanges, the company earlier said, “The outcome of the Board meeting will be communicated to the stock exchanges soon after the conclusion of the Board meeting on April 27, 2023.”

Wipro stocks dip by 27 percent in one year

Wipro’s share price has been on a downward trend for the past year, with the stocks dipping by over 27 percent. In the current year alone, the stocks have dropped by over four percent.

This decline is a cause for concern for investors, and the announcement of the buyback program is being seen as a potential solution to stabilize the share price.

Wipro’s past performance and share buyback program history

Wipro has a history of using share buyback programs. In 2021, the company bought back shares worth Rs 9500 crore at an offer price of Rs 400 per share. In 2019, it bought back shares worth Rs 10500 crore at an offer price of Rs 325 per share.

When it comes to declaration of the earnings, the reactions of the investors have been mixed in the past. Wipro’s shares traded in the red on the next day of the earnings declaration in six out of 13 quarters since 2020.

  • Adani group stocks dip; Adani Enterprises tumble over 28%, Ports over 19%

Adani group stocks dip; Adani Enterprises tumble over 28%, Ports over 19%

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Shares of Adani Group firms slumped on Wednesday and have lost more than Rs 7 lakh crore of their combined market capitalisation in the last five trading sessions amid concerns over US-based short seller Hindenburg Research’s report.

The decline is about 38 percent compared to the market valuation at the end of trading on January 24, the day when the report was released.

Adani Group stocks have taken a beating on the bourses after Hindenburg in the report made a litany of allegations, including fraudulent transactions and share price manipulation, at the Gautam Adani-led group.

At the end of Wednesday’s trading session, all the group companies settled in negative territory with shares of three companies hit their lowest price band.

Shares of Adani Enterprises nosedived 28.45 percent to close at Rs 2,128.70 on the BSE despite the company’s Rs 20,000-crore share sale sailed through on the last day on Tuesday after non-retail investors bid in big volumes. There was, however, a muted response from retail investors and company employees.

The share sale opened on January 24.

The counter of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone plunged 19.69 percent, Adani Total Gas slumped 10 percent, Adani Green Energy declined 5.78 percent, Adani Wilmar fell 4.99 percent, Adani Wilmar went down 4.99 percent, Adani Power dropped 4.98 percent and Adani Transmission (2.46 percent)

In addition, Ambuja Cements tanked 16.56 percent, while ACC dropped 6.34 percent and NDTV went down 4.98 percent.

The Adani group stocks (including Ambuja, ACC and NDTV) have lost more than Rs 7 lakh crore or about 38 percent of their combined market cap in the last five trading sessions, Manish Chowdhury, head of research at Stoxbox, said.

“With investors hoping for a breather following the successful closure of the Adani Enterprises FPO yesterday, it was another shocker when news emerged today that Credit Suisse has stopped accepting bonds of Adani group as collateral for margin loans to its private banking clients. With several questions being raised about the group, it looks prudent to stay away from these companies till the dust settles,” he added.

Equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty ended on a mixed note after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman raised the personal income tax rebate limit, doled out sops on small savings and announced one of the biggest hikes in capital spending in the past decade in Budget 2023-24.

The 30-share BSE benchmark Sensex climbed 158.18 points or 0.27 percent to settle at 59,708.08. In contrast, the broader NSE Nifty declined 45.85 points or 0.26 percent to end at 17,616.30.

32 lakh devotees take holy dip in Ganga, Sangam at ‘Magh Mela’ in UP

    [ad_1]

Prayagraj: Thirty-two lakh devotees took a dip in Ganga and Sangam on the occasion of Basant Panchami — the fourth bathing festival of the ongoing ‘Magh Mela’ — here on Thursday, officials said.

Sangam is a confluence of three rivers — Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati.

Additional Mela Officer Vivek Chaturvedi said, “From 4 am to 4 pm on Thursday, 32 lakh devotees took a dip in Ganga and Sangam.”

Kashi Sumeru Peethadhishwar Swami Narendranand Saraswati said the goddess of knowledge, Saraswati, was born on the day of Basant Panchami. That is why this day is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Mother Saraswati.

More than 5,000 police personnel have been deployed at the fair for security, Senior Superintendent of Police (Magh Mela) Rajeev Narayan Mishra said.

Arrangements have also been made for river ambulances and floating police posts. The crowd is being monitored through CCTV, body and drone cameras, he added.

The next bath will take place on ‘Maghi Purnima’ on February 5. The ‘Magh Mela’ will conclude with a final bath on the occasion of ‘Mahashivratri’ on February 18.
