New Delhi: Delhi BJP will hold an indefinite sit-in outside Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s house over his allegedly spending Rs 45 crore on renovation of his official residence, a party functionary said Sunday.

The party will stage a sit-in outside Kejriwal’s official residence 6, Flagstaff Road in Civil Lines from Monday, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva said.

Earlier in the week, the BJP had alleged that Kejriwal spent Rs 45 crore on renovation of his official house during 2020-22.

“The most shameful thing in this is that this scam was done at a time when Corona was in its worst form in Delhi and hundreds of people were dying every day,” Sachdeva said.

The dharna will be led by BJP MP Harsh Vardhan with workers from Keshav Puram and Chandni Chowk districts, he said.

Delhi BJP leaders stage dharna at Rajghat over AAP’s ‘insult’ to Mahatma Gandhi

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: A group of Delhi BJP leaders and workers on Sunday staged a sit-in at Rajghat here over alleged insult to Mahatma Gandhi by the AAP.

The BJP leaders led by state president Virendra Sachdeva also prayed at the Gandhi’s memorial prior to AAP convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal reached there before going to the CBI headquarters for questioning in connection with the alleged liquor scam.

“When Kejriwal gets trapped, he remembers Mahatma Gandhi, although he has ordered for removing Gandhi’s portrait from offices of his government,” Sachdeva charged.

    MS Education Academy

He further attacked Kejriwal over AAP workers holding protests across the city, and said, “Kejriwal’s politics is inspired by his actor friend Prakash Raj’s villainous roles in the movies. The call of AAP for road blockade in Delhi is inspired by the role of Raj in film Policegiri.”

Sachdeva said Kejriwal was called by the CBI for liquor scam of his government but he went to the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi, and nothing can be “more shameful” than this.

Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said that due to the hard work of BJP workers, Kejriwal who is “mastermind” of the liquor policy scam will also be in jail soon.

“Whenever Kejriwal was asked about the liquor scam in the assembly, he ran away. Kejriwal will now have to face the consequences of his actions and will have to resign and also go to jail,” Bidhuri said.

Former Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta said the party workers’ struggle has paid off today. Kejriwal’s aides Satyendar Jain and Manish Sisodia are already in the jail waiting to welcome him there, he said.

  • Pilot sits on dharna, targets own govt in Rajasthan

Pilot sits on dharna, targets own govt in Rajasthan

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Tuesday sat here on a fast, piling pressure on his own party by targeting the Ashok Gehlot government in Rajasthan for inaction’ in alleged cases of corruption when the BJP ran the state.

The former deputy chief minister began the dharna at the Martyr’s Memorial here, ignoring warnings by the Congress central leadership that the move just months ahead of the assembly polls is “anti-party activity”.

CM Gehlot and Pilot have been at loggerheads since the Congress formed the government in the state in December 2018.

    MS Education Academy

Pilot offered flowers at the portraits of Mahatma Gandhi and social reformer Jyotirao Phule before starting his silent protest around 11 am. “This struggle against corruption will continue,” Pilot told reporters while leaving the venue at 4 pm as scheduled.

He sat alone on the dais for five hours, against the backdrop of a large banner that described the event as a fast against “corruption” during the term of BJP’s Vasundhara Raje — “Vasundhara Sarkar Me Hue Bhrashtachar ke Viruddh Anshan”. The song “Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye” played in the background.

His supporters sat behind or below the platform.

No ruling party minister or MLA showed up as they were asked by Pilot to keep away. But several other leaders, including former MLAs Santosh Saharan and Ramnarayan Gurjar were present.

The Pilot faction apparently did not want to make it a headcount of MLAs with him versus those with Gehlot in the divided Rajasthan Congress. Also, this would have put the pro-Pilot MLAs at a greater risk of action by the party leadership.

Gehlot did not made any direct remark on Pilot’s move after the younger leader announced the agitation on Sunday.

But On Tuesday morning, as his former deputy began the dharna, the CM released a video expounding his own vision for the state. “I have decided that I have to make Rajasthan the top state by 2030,” he said.

“To realise this dream, in the last four budgets and this year’s ‘Bachat, Rahat and Badhat’ budget, I have made schemes no other state has,” he added in the clip, which could be interpreted as an indication that the veteran politician sees himself as his party’s CM candidate in the next election as well.

Pilot’s fast was an apparent attempt to stall this in the run-up to the polls. But the Congress leadership appeared to have thrown its weight behind Gehlot, at least for now.

“If there is any issue with his own government, it can be discussed at party forums instead of the media and in public,” Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Rajasthan in-charge at the All India Congress Committee (AICC), had said in a statement Monday night.

“This is clearly anti-party activity. I am in touch with him and I still appeal for dialogue since he is an indisputable asset to the Congress,” he added.

Rajasthan Tourism Minister Vishvendra Singh’s son Anirudh Singh, who recently targeted Rahul Gandhi for his remarks in UK, was present at the dharna site. Several workers from Pilot’s constituency Tonk and areas in eastern Rajasthan also came.

As the fast ended, Pilot said the Congress had assured people that its government will take effective action over corruption during the term of the previous BJP government.

“I wanted the Congress government to take action against the corruption of the former government,” he told reporters. “This struggle against corruption will continue.”

The Gehlot-Pilot tussle began during the formation of the Congress government in December 2018. Both were keen on the chief minister’s post.

But the party high command picked Gehlot for the top post in the state for a third time and Pilot was made his deputy.

In July 2020, Pilot and a section of Congress MLAs rebelled openly against Gehlot, demanding a change of leadership in the state. Pilot was stripped then of the posts of deputy chief minister and Pradesh Congress Committee president.

The month-long crisis ended after the party’s central leadership’s assurance to look into the issues Pilot raised.

Gehlot later used terms like “gaddar” (traitor), “nakara” (failure) and “nikamma” (worthless) for Pilot, and accused him of being involved with BJP leaders in a conspiracy to topple the Congress government.

Last September, MLAs in the Gehlot camp boycotted a Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting and held a parallel meeting to stall what they felt was an attempt to make Pilot the new chief minister.

Gehlot was then being considered for the party president’s post.

  • Telangana: BRS stages Maha Dharna against auction of Singareni mines

Telangana: BRS stages Maha Dharna against auction of Singareni mines

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Saturday organised a ‘Maha Dhama’ to protest against the Centre’s decision to auction Singareni Collienes Company Limited (SCCL) coal mines during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the city on Saturday.

BRS party working president and IT minister KT Rama Rao (KTR) took to Twitter to share a news report of the central government removing four Tamil Nadu coal blocks from the auction list following strong objections in the state. He said that the BRS is demanding the same reaction from the union government.

KTR alleged that the BJP is discriminating against Telangana in comparison with other states.

    MS Education Academy

Welfare Minister Koppula Eashwar, MLA Korukanti Chander and other leaders took forward the Maha Dhama in Godavarikhani chowk.

Eashwar said that the Union government is “selling” Indian Airlines, ports, Life Insurance Corporation (LIC), Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and other public sector units to PM Modi’s “frends” Adani and Ambani. “On similar lines, Singareni, which is running in profits, will be privatised and the employees will lose their jobs because of the lack of mines”

Panchayatraj minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao and ST Welfare Satyavathi Rathod participated in the Maha Dharna in Jayashankar Bhupalpally.

Forest minister Allola Indrakaran Reddy, MLA N Diwakar Rao and other party leaders were present at the protest staged at Naspur mandal centre. BRS whip Balka Suman demanded the centre abandon its plans to auction the Satthupalli, Shravanapalli and Penugadapalli coal blocks.

Speaking at the protest, Suman dubbed the auction of coal blocks as “a conspiracy” to wreck the economical condition of Telangana and warned that failure in stopping the auction will lead to a boycott of BJP leaders from the coal belt area.

Transport minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar, MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra, MLAs Vanama Venkateshwar Rao, and K Upender Reddy continued the Maha Dhama in Kothagudem.

Talking about the Maha Dharna, the BJP MLA Eatala Rajender held that the state government was responsible for the debts incurred by Singereni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL).

After the amendment of the Mines and Minerals Regulation Act in 2015 that gave leverage to the Telangana government to get coal blocks allocated through Coal India, it failed to apply and secure even one of the four coal blocks directly under its control since 2017,” said Eatala.

Rajender further alleged that the BRS willfully made the Singareni write to the Centre that mining the Tadicherla block wasn’t feasible. “Genco was allocated the Tadicherla coal block, and it requested Singareni to do the mining. But Singareni was asked to submit that it wasn’t viable,” said Eatala.

Telangana: KTR calls for ‘Maha Dharna’ against SCCL privatisation

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi’s (BRS) working president and Telangana minister KT Rama Rao on Thursday gave a call for a massive protest against the centre’s decision to auction Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) coal mines.

Stating that the centre issued a notification to auction the mines in Sathupalli Block 3, Shravan Palli, Penagadapa, KTR demanded the auctioning process, which was scheduled to be conducted from March 29 to May 30, to be rolled back.

Vehemently opposing the central government’s ‘veiled attempts’ to privatise the SCCL, KTR gave a call for Maha Dharna, a press release stated.

    MS Education Academy

Further, he demanded that SCCL should allocate the mines without auctioning. “BRS leaders and activists along with Singareni employees will protest against the centre, in Mancherial, Peddapalli, Ramagundam on April 8,” said the minister.

KTR spoke about the economic significance of SCCL, the centre’s conspiracy to impede Telangana’s growth by privatising SCCL, and the disastrous impact of its privatisation on various sections of the state.

‘Why privatise when SCCL is profitable?’

“Can anyone from the Centre dare to reason the need for privatising SCCL when it is setting records in terms of production, profits and Plant Load Factor (PLF)?” he said.

BRS’s working president said, “The centre is conspiring to push Singareni, which is currently reaping profits, into losses by not allocating the coal mines. The Centre sold many Public Sector Units (PSU) which made profits. Vizag Steel Plant (VSP) was also pushed into losses by not allocating mines to it”.

    KTR slams PM Modi

He informed that the chief minister and BRS president K Chandrashekar Rao had already written to the centre stating that the coal mines needed for SCCL be allocated to it.

Adding that Singareni Employees have also placed the same demand he accused, “Though the state urged the union government for the past several years for the allocation of the mines to Singareni, the centre turned a deaf ear to it. This is despite the allocation of a large number of Lignite mines to Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC) through nomination”.

The minister alleged, “The prime minister who was generous towards Gujarat, discriminated against the progressive Telangana. PM Narendra Modi who visited Ramagundam on November 11, 2022, assured that Singareni would not be privatised. But the PM did not stand by his promise. How would Modi respond to it during his next visit to the state?”

‘SCCL privatisation – an attempt to gut agriculture and mar CM KCR’: KTR

KTR termed the privatisation of the SCCL as an ‘attempt to mar CM KCR’s determination’ to provide 24-hour free electricity to farmers. He also alleged that the centre is trying to force the farmers to rely on bores for farming again.

“Singareni plays a crucial role in thermal power generation in the State and provides high-quality power to agricultural needs, industries, and domestic requirements, the Centre is creating obstacles to this,” he said.

“The centre is not able to digest the appreciation Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project has been receiving and it is plotting to deprive the lift irrigation projects of power supply,” he further said.

Mamata sits overnight in ‘dharna’ against Centre, raises political temperature

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sat overnight in front of Dalit icon Dr B R Ambedkar’s statue on Red Road in the heart of the metropolis, surrounded by a cohort of TMC leaders and workers under television camera arclights.

Banerjee, who is staging a two-day sit-in to protest alleged discrimination by the Centre against the state, had Wednesday in a change of stance urged all political parties in the country to unitedly fight the BJP in next year’s Lok Sabha election.

This is a departure from an earlier decision to remain equidistant from both the Congress and the right-wing party ruling India’s federal polity.

The Trinamool Congress supremo was accompanied by several party leaders, including Firhad Hakim and Aroop Biswas at the protest site.

Banerjee’s 30-hour demonstration is likely to end around 7 pm on Thursday.

Security measures in and around the venue were tightened keeping in mind the presence of high-profile leaders, a senior officer of Kolkata Police said.

Banerjee started the sit-in from Wednesday noon, protesting against the Centre’s “stoppage” of funds to the state for MGNREGA and other schemes of the housing and public works departments.

Stating that the 2024 Parliamentary polls will be a fight between the citizens of the country and the BJP, Banerjee had Wednesday asserted that people across religions must unite to defeat the saffron party and save the poor of the country.

She described the BJP as ‘Dushasana’ and ‘Duryodhana’ the two antagonists from the epic Mahabharata’.

“I urge every political party in India to unite to oust this Dushasana’ BJP government. This Duryodhana’ BJP should be removed from power to save the country’s common man as well as Indian democracy,” Banerjee said.

Kolkata has been witnessing a flurry of political activity ahead of the panchayat elections slated for this summer, which has now received a green signal from the Calcutta High Court.

The state’s political temperature has risen by a few notches with rallies by Banerjee’s nephew and TMC leader Abhisek, BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari and a march organised by the Left-Congress alliance, alongside the sit-in, which has been drawing large crowds of onlookers.

Jaipur: After the charred bodies of two Bharatpur youths – Nasir and Junaid – were found in Haryana recently, the families of the victims have staged a dharna in the village graveyard in the district demanding the arrest of killers.

They alleged that when Kanhaiya was murdered in Udaipur, his criminals were caught in 1 hour, but now the killers of both victims have not been arrested yet.

Nasir’s and Junaid’s cousin Mohammad Javed said that he will not move from dharna until the accused are arrested. “We all are sitting on dharna, we will continue to sit on dharna like this till our demands are fulfilled,” he said.

A complaint was registered on February 15, after Junaid and Nasir were abducted and beaten up by unknown people. They were allegedly taken along; relatives allege that Junaid and Nasir were kidnapped in their own Bolero car and were burnt alive.

Odisha: BJD, BJP stage rival dharna on LoP’s misbehaviour’ , worsening’ law and order

    [ad_1]

Bhubaneswar: The women’s wing of the ruling BJD in Odisha staged a dharna here on Thursday demanding removal of Jaynarayan Mishra from the post of the Leader of Opposition for allegedly misbehaving with a woman police officer in Sambalpur.

Mishra on Wednesday stirred controversy by allegedly pushing the woman police officer during a BJP protest in Sambalpur. The incident took place in front of the district collector’s office during the party’s statewide stir on “worsening” law and order in the coastal state.

The saffron party too staged a dharna near Raj Bhavan, claiming that there was a bid to eliminate Mishra, also the BJP MLA from Sambalpur, for criticising the state government in connection with the assassination of ex-minister Naba Kishore Das.

Members of the BJD and BJP also burnt effigies of the Leader of Opposition and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik respectively.

Holding placards and banners, the BJD activists who were on a dharna on MG Road, accused Mishra of pushing and assaulting the woman police officer.

The protesters also demanded an apology from Mishra.

BJD spokesperson Shreemayee Mishra claimed Jaynarayan Mishra was a “habitual offender”, with 14 cases, including murder, registered against him.

Meanwhile, members of the saffron party demanded the chief minister’s resignation for allegedly failing to maintain law and order in the state.

The BJP for the last two days was holding demonstration across the state over the “worsening” law and order following the assassination of Naba Kishore Das last month allegedly by a former policeman.

Based on the complaint of Dhanupali Police Station Inspector in-charge Anita Pradhan, the law enforcers in Sambalpur had on Wednesday booked Mishra under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Meanwhile, Sambalpur Mahila BJP also lodged a complaint against Anita Pradhan, alleging that she had pushed and misbehaved with the Leader of Opposition.

A video (not verified by PTI) that went viral showed Mishra assaulting the woman police officer in the western Odisha city.

The BJP rank and file, including its senior leaders, came down heavily on the state government alleging that Mishra was being framed by the BJD after he launched a scathing attack on the state government following Naba Kishore Das murder case.

“It is a plot created by the BJD to fix Mishra as he was attacking the government on its weak points. The woman police officer instead misbehaved with the Leader of Opposition, who is considered as second to the chief minister in the Assembly,” said BJP state in-charge D Purendeswari.

Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said the incident was “pre-planned” and “sponsored” by the government to “cover up its inefficiency and wrongdoings”.

“Jaynarayan Mishra was not appointed the Leader of Opposition as a charity from Naveen Patnaik. He was appointed by the Parliamentary Board of the BJP The law and order situation is fast deteriorating in the state.

“Such pre-planned and state-sponsored acts do not last long in a democracy,” Pradhan told reporters.

IG, North Range, Deepak Kumar said the police has registered a case against Mishra on the basis of a complaint by the woman police officer.

The BJP’s complaint against the police officer has been registered as a station diary, Kumar said.

The complaint by the saffron party will be probed while investigating the allegations made by the woman police officer, Kumar said.

Meanwhile, BJP’s Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi said, “We know an incident has taken place and the law will take its own course. The incident is worrisome both for the party and Mishra”.

Meanwhile, Mishra alleged that a group of BJD goons Thursday reached the circuit house at Sambalpur where he was staying.

“The BJD goons had come to eliminate me,” Mishra told reporters in Sambalpur.

The BJP MLA from Sambalpur also accused the Dhanupali Police Station Inspector in-charge Anita Pradhan of pushing him.

“The IIC, who was involved in corrupt practices, had intentionally shoved me. She stamped on my feet and pushed me twice,” Mishra told reporters.

AAP leaders detained in Jammu during ‘dharna’ against anti-encroachment drive

    [ad_1]

Jammu: AAP leader Harsh Dev Singh, including two other partyment, were detained on Sunday during a protest outside Raj Bhawan here held against an anti-encroachment drive.

Before they were detained, the three sat on a dharna holding a tricolour flag in front of Raj Bhawan in protest against the drive.

“Though the Lieutenant Governor assured the poor they will not be evicted, the district and tehsil administration were dispossessing only the poor and un-influential while leaving the rich and powerful untouched,” the former minister said.

The Aam Aadmi Party leader said that several ex MLAs had carved out colonies by encroaching the state and other lands and sold them at exorbitant rates, while the poor continue to be harassed, intimidated, and persecuted despite the tall slogans of the LG. He called upon the ex-ministers, MLAs, and bureaucrats to come clean on the issue before initiating eviction proceedings against the poor, villagers, nomads, and other homeless people.

He said that selective action against the poor was not only reprehensible but amounted to a “sin of the highest order.” Singh also accused the LG administration of facilitating the encroachment of palatial mansions and those of state lands, forest lands, lands under the Jammu Development Authority, and municipal lands by ex-ministers, MLAs, and some saffron party leaders.

He alleged that several BJP leaders were reported to have regularised state lands under the Roshni scheme with full impunity.

Singh urged the civil society also to come forward to expose and oppose the authoritarian and dictatorial policies of the present corrupt regime.

Hyderabad: ‘Save Waqf Board properties’, ALMMO protests at Dharna Chowk

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: All India Muslim Minority organization (ALMMO) staged a protest at Dharna Chowk on Friday demanding judicial powers for Waqf Board.

Members of various Muslim organisations, social activists, and several citizens participated in the protest.

Protestors accused chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao of not abiding by his statements given in the Assembly nine years ago.

They held that the dharna was to remind the CM of the promises made in his manifesto nine years ago.

Saving the Waqf properties is the motive behind the protest, a protestor said.

They further added that the Muslim minorities have been betrayed in terms of their rights and that the state government should hand over the waqf properties to underprivileged Muslims only.

Chairman of Deccan Waqf Protection Society, Osman Hajiri said that the state government had earlier promised the judicial powers to be given to Waqf Board. “However, the promise remains unfilled,” he added.

He said that Waqf land encroachments have been going on for ages, but prime properties of the Waqf like that of the Hussain sha wali Dargah, which is worth around one lakh crore, have been lost though it was under the favor of the board after an argument in Telangana High Court.
