Modi Government`s Big Decision! LPG Cylinder To Cost Rs 200 Less For These Consumers

NEW DELHI: The government on Friday extended the Rs 200 per LPG cylinder subsidy under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) by one year in the wake of high prices of petroleum products in the international market. The move will benefit 9.6 crore families. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved a subsidy of Rs 200 per 14.2 kg cylinder for up to 12 refills per year to be provided to the beneficiaries of PMUY, I&B Minister Anurag Thakur told reporters.

As of March 1, 2023, there were 9.59 crore PMUY beneficiaries. Further, the minister said the total expenditure will be Rs 6,100 crore for the financial year 2022-23 and Rs 7,680 crore for 2023-24.

The subsidy is credited directly to the bank accounts of the eligible beneficiaries. Thakur said there has been a sharp increase in international prices of LPG due to various geopolitical reasons and it is important to shield PMUY beneficiaries from high LPG prices.

An official release said that targeted support to PMUY consumers encourages them for continuous use of LPG.

“It is important to ensure sustained LPG adoption and usage among PMUY consumers so that they can completely switch to cleaner cooking fuel,” it said.

The average LPG consumption of PMUY consumers has increased by 20 per cent from 3.01 refills in 2019-20 to 3.68 in 2021-22. All PMUY beneficiaries are eligible for the targeted subsidy.

To make liquified petroleum gas (LPG), a clean cooking fuel, available to rural and deprived poor households, the government launched Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in May 2016, to provide deposit-free LPG connections to adult women of poor households.

WBSSC recruitment: CBI gets details about number of OMR sheets tampered with

    [ad_1]

Kolkata: With the arrest of a top official of an OMR sheet manufacturing entity, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths have got the details about the number of OMR sheets that were allegedly tampered with in different examinations for recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff in West Bengal state-run schools.

These examinations were conducted by West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC).

According to sources, during the interrogation of Niladri Das, the vice-president of OMR sheet manufacturing entity, NYSA, the CBI sleuths have secured information about 8,163 OMR sheets that were allegedly tampered with to make room for ineligible candidates.

Sources, citing CBI sleuths, claimed that as many as 6,304 OMR sheets were tampered with in case of non-teaching staff, which included 3,481 Group-D posts and 2,823 Group-C posts.

In case of teaching staff, the total number OMR sheets that were tampered with stands at 1,859, out of which 952 were for recruitment of secondary teachers while the remaining 907 were for recruitment of teachers at higher secondary level.

“Our sleuths are now trying to track how Das financially benefited from this tampering of OMR sheets,” said a CBI associate.

Das is currently in CBI custody and is facing marathon investigation by the central agency.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that this is not the first time that Das had been arrested. In March 2019, he was arrested by the sleuths of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of West Bengal police in a case of forgery following an FIR filed against him in East Midnapore district.

Preliminary investigation by the central agency have revealed that Das’s connection with the WBSSC was through the commission’s former chairman Subiresh Bhattacharya.

MC Stan’s team breaks Abdu Rozik’s car, read details here

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Tajik singer Abdu Rozik is one of the most loved celebrities in India. He rose to fame after participating in the TV reality show Bigg Boss. During the season 16 of the Bigg Boss, Abdu remained part of Mandali (a group of various contestants) which was loved by most of the audience. One of the Mandali members, MC Stan emerged as the winner and these members were often seen partying after coming out of the house too.

After Stan suddenly started ignoring Abdu Rozik, the young singer recently revealed that his friendship with Stan has ended. Abdu’s team also issued a statement in this regard which reads that on March 10, Sajid Khan visited Abdu and called MC Stan but he hung up saying he will call later.  According to the statement, Abdu had also sent Stan a voice note to the Bigg Boss winner to which the latter didn’t respond.

A day after MC Stan did not respond to Abdu’s voice note, Tajik singer spoke to rapper’s manager saying he “wanted to support his brother by attending, not performing” at his show. Chota Bhaijaan according to the statement was told by the security team and organizers that Stan didn’t want Abdu at the venue.

“Abdu then thinking this was a mistake from Stan’s team, tried to go to the venue as a normal guest with a ticket only to be sworn at very bad words by Stan’s management and to be turned away at the normal entrance. Abdu’s car was also damaged ,” the statement further reads.

As per the statement, Stan’s team has informed the independent two record labels that Stan did not want to collaborate with Abdu after they wanted the duo to work on one of the label’s projects. “Abdu was naturally disappointed and saddened due to the response as he believed he and MC Stan are friends. Abdu at first wanted to discuss with Stan privately and sort out the differences before admitting publicly that they are not in good terms,” added the statement.

It also reads that the mandali members had informed Abdu earlier that Stan was offended after Chota Bhaijaan didn’t take a picture with Stan’s mother at the Bigg Boss finale.

“As little or large an issue may be, respect is so important between brothers and between fans and their idols. We condemn anyone who is being racist, body shaming, bullying, height shaming, and defaming Abdu and will take action against the specific group of accounts who are doing this,” the statement concluded.

MC Stan, Abdu Rozik, Sajid Khan, Shiv Thakare, Sumbul Touqeer Khan, and Nimrit Kaur Ahluwalia were the members of the mandali during the Bigg Boss season 16.

  • Fear, burnout and insubordination: Insiders spill details about life at the highest levels of FBI

Fear, burnout and insubordination: Insiders spill details about life at the highest levels of FBI

    [ad_1]

    main gerstein fbichaos lead

The Man at the Center of it All

The FBI is no stranger to criticisms, both internal and external. For years, they’ve been piling up. A series of withering federal watchdog reports have faulted the bureau for slipshod compliance with everything from national-security surveillance procedures to its own rules limiting contacts with the media. A bipartisan assemblage of members of Congress excoriated the FBI for badly botching complaints of sexual abuse of teenage gymnasts. Trials spearheaded by a special counsel have exposed rivalries within the bureau and loose ends that investigators failed to run down.

Many of those issues have been compounded and thrust into public consciousness by Trump, who spent his entire presidency accusing the bureau of deep-seated political bias for pursuing cases against him or his allies — claims underscored by his abrupt and dramatic firing of Comey in 2017. To this day, Republicans in Congress are pushing charges that the bureau was “weaponized” by Trump’s opponents.

But unlike the blunt attacks by outsiders, which often go unrebutted by the bureau, the trial provided a forum for FBI insiders themselves to describe their own views of what has plagued the sprawling crime-fighting and intelligence agency. And their answers exposed fissures among factions of the FBI that have long been viewed in the Trump era as monolithic — divisions that FBI insiders said were more palpable during the handoff of the bureau from Robert Mueller to Comey.

And witnesses named names, with a particular focus on Baker’s predecessor as FBI general counsel, former federal prosecutor Andrew Weissmann.

“This was a significant problem under Andrew Weissman’s tenure,” Baker testified, describing a lack of communication in the FBI counsel’s office. People “didn’t tell each other what they were doing,” he added, characterizing it as a “silo problem” that “I inherited from Andrew.”

Weissman is now best known as a top hand to Mueller during the investigation of the Trump campaign’s links to Russia in 2016 — and whether Trump obstructed justice. He led the attention-grabbing criminal cases against former Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort. He has since become a prominent cable news contributor and commentator on Trump’s bevy of current legal woes. But to Baker, Weissmann was the root of a culture of fear and burnout that plagued the FBI general counsel’s office the day Baker arrived.

“I wanted people to tell me when I was wrong, which was the complete opposite from what Andrew did–Andrew Weissman,” Baker testified. “The agency … had this tendency not to speak truth to each other in meetings and in other settings.”

At another point, Baker referred to “the negativity that flowed from” Weissmann and said it left some employees in the counsel’s office distrustful of others.

Baker said the communications breakdown extended to the highest levels of the office, with top lawyers not speaking up even if they disagreed with a decision or saw problems it would create.

In a 2014 e-mail shown at the trial, Baker’s chief of staff Justin Schoolmaster, described the flawed hiring process for one general counsel’s office job as a mess left over from Weissmann’s tenure. “Hopefully this is one of the last remaining pot holes left by the previous regime,” Schoolmaster wrote.

Weissman declined to comment for this story.

  • Rahul Gandhi’s Rape Statement In Kashmir, Delhi Police Seeks Details

Rahul Gandhi’s Rape Statement In Kashmir, Delhi Police Seeks Details

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: In an interesting development, Delhi Police is seeking details of the statement Congress leader Rahul Gandhi made in Srinagar during the conclusion of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, more than three fortnights ago. A police team is visiting the Gandhi scion’s Delhi residence to seek information for a mandatory follow-up.

“Rahul Gandhi gave a statement in Srinagar on January 30 that during the Yatra he met several women and they told him that they had been raped,” Special CP Law and Order Sagar Preet Hooda told reporters outside Gandhi’s Delhi residence. “We are trying to get details from him so that justice can be given to victims”.

Hooda said it was important for the police to know whether any woman from Delhi eyed her message to Rahul Gandhi. “There might be a possibility of the involvement of minors also,” he said, insisting that, in that case, the law will have to take its own course. And justice can be delivered.

Police said they sent two notices to Gandhi on March 15 and March 16, seeking a meeting to gather the details. Police said they waited for hours to get a chance to meet the opposition leader.

“In one particular case, I asked a girl, she had been raped, I asked her should we call the police, she said that don’t call the police then I will be shamed,” Gandhi had said in Srinagar, according to the Delhi Police.

Congress has reacted by saying they will respond to the notices in due course f time. “We will respond to the notice in the due course per law,” Congress tweeted. “This notice is yet another proof of a govt in panic and their latest salvo to weaken democracy, women empowerment, freedom of expression and role of the opposition.”

  • Delhi police notice to Rahul Gandhi for details on ‘sexual harassment’ of women

Delhi police notice to Rahul Gandhi for details on ‘sexual harassment’ of women

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: A team of Delhi Police led by senior police officials on Sunday reached the residence of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi to record his statement in connection with his Bharat Jodo Yatra speech in Srinagar in which he had mentioned about the sexual harassment of some women.

Sources said that senior police officials had served the notice to Gandhi in this respect.

The source said that Gandhi himself received the notice.

Following the meet, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi assured the Delhi police that he will share the information about the claims that he had made during his Bharat Jodo Yatra speech in Srinagar, and also said that he needed some time for this.

“We have met Rahul Gandhi, he has said that he needs time to give his statement. Gandhi said that the Yatra was so long and he needed to recollect who had connected him and his team. After receiving details he has assured to share them with us,” said a police official who did not wish to be named.

A Delhi police team led by Special Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, Dr Sagar Preet Hooda and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), New Delhi Pranav Tayal had reached Gandhi’s residence at Tughlak lane early this morning to serve him notice.

The Delhi police also had a questionnaire ready, which they wanted to give to him, in case he wants to reply in a written format.

Gandhi had mentioned about the victims of sexual harassment in his Bharat Jodo Yatra speech in January in Srinagar.

The Delhi Police took cognisance of his account of the Yatra that he interacted with some women who were raped.

The Delhi Police had visited him twice and waited for hours to get the details about the victims of sexual abuse who had approached him to seek security.

Congress protest after notice to Rahul Gandhi:

The national capital on Sunday witnessed a massive drama with the Congress workers taking to the streets after the Delhi police served a notice to their party leader Rahul Gandhi over his speech made during Bharat Jodo Yatra in Srinagar.

A few of them were detained by the Police for posing a threat to the law and order of the city.

Soon after the Police served a notice to former Congress president Rahul Gandhi for his speech made in connection with alleged sexual assault on women, during his Bharat Jodo Yatra in Kashmir, a number of party workers gathered outside his residence in Tughlak lane area to stage a protest.

The protestors were raising slogans against the Delhi Police and Centre.

Sensing the gravity of the matter, extra police force which was deployed in the morning, detained the protestors.

Delhi Police has said that they only want to take action against the culprits who sexually assaulted the women.

Rahul Gandhi had, during his speech, said that a few women met him and alleged that they were sexually assaulted.
