‘Grand tamasha’ Congress describes PM Modi’s Bengaluru roadshow

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Congress on Saturday called Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “master of distortion” and accused him of caring only for his “grand tamasha” and not the inconvenience caused by his 26-km roadshow in Bengaluru.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh alleged ambulances were stuck on roads due to the chaos caused by the roadshow and said that Modi should cancel the second part of the roadshow slated for Sunday.

With just four days to go for the Karnataka assembly polls, Modi held a massive roadshow from Someshwar Bhavan RBI Ground in Bengaluru South to Malleshwaram’s Sankey Tank.

The prime minister will hold another roadshow on Sunday morning.

“The Master Of Distortion and Incitement (‘Abuse’ No. 92??) is arriving in Bengaluru today. We already know what he’ll say to inflame prejudice and bigotry,” Ramesh said on Twitter ahead of Modi’s roadshow.

He said the prime minister will stay absolutely silent on the real issues of Karnataka like “40 per cent commission sarkar, intolerable price rise, rising unemployment, and a forever under-construction and dug-up Bengaluru”.

“This time the despair is so high that his #40km40percent roadshow over 2 days is locking up an entire city, creating chaos & uncertainty for students writing crucial exams, and felling a number of trees,” the Congress leader said.

“Have you ever seen a PM this desperate,” he asked.

After the roadshow, Ramesh said Modi should cancel its second part scheduled for Sunday.

    “Ambulances stuck, chaos on road!

“If the PM has any shame left or even an iota of concern for the people of Bengaluru, he would immediately cancel part 2 of the #40km40percent roadshow tomorrow. But we all know that all he cares for is his Grand Tamasha,” Ramesh tweeted.

He also shared a video of a traffic jam.

In another tweet, he said, “Jawans have been martyred, Wrestlers are protesting, Manipur is burning And all the Prime Minister can think of is rallying to save the BJP from a humiliating defeat in Karnataka. Pathetic priorities!”

Modi’s three-hour roadshow traversed through parts of south and central Bengaluru, touching about a dozen assembly segments. He waved at large crowds that gathered on both sides of the route.

Later, he addressed a rally in Badami and said the overwhelming response he received in Bengaluru during the roadshow made him believe that it is the people who are contesting the Karnataka elections on behalf of the BJP.

He said that the love and affection he received in Bengaluru was “unparalleled”.

Hindu temple vandalised in Canada; police describes it as ‘hate-motivated incident’

    [ad_1]

Toronto: A prominent Hindu temple in Canada’s Ontario province has been vandalised by unknown people with “anti-Hindu and anti-India graffiti”, in what is described by police as a “hate-motivated incident.”

In a statement, the police in Ontario’s Windsor city said on Wednesday that it has launched an investigation into the incident and looking for two suspects.

The High Commission of India in Ottawa, Canada has strongly condemned the act of vandalism.

“We have taken up with the Canadian authorities the hateful act of putting anti India graffiti on the walls of BAPS Swaminarayan temple in Windsor. We strongly condemn this act of vandalism,” the mission said in a tweet.

The Windsor Police Service said officers were dispatched to the Hindu temple in the 1700 block of the Northway Avenue following a report of hate-motivated vandalism on Wednesday.

“Officers discovered anti-Hindu and anti-India graffiti sprayed in black on an exterior wall of the building,” the police said in a statement.

The Windsor Police Service was investigating vandalism at the temple “as a hate-motivated incident,” the statement said.

Through investigation, officers obtained a video that shows two suspects in the area just after 12 a.m. In the video, one suspect appears to commit the vandalism on the wall of the building while the other keeps watch, it said.

At the time of the incident, one suspect wore a black sweater, black pants with a small white logo on the left leg, and black and white high-top running shoes.

The second suspect wore black pants, a sweatshirt black shoes, and white socks.Police asked residents in the immediate vicinity of the temple to check their home surveillance or dashcam video footage for evidence of the suspects.

In January, the Gauri Shankar temple in Brampton was targeted with anti-India graffiti, causing an outrage among the Indian community.

The Indian Consulate General in Toronto had said the defacing of the temple had deeply hurt the sentiments of the Indian community in Canada.

At least three similar acts of vandalism have been recorded in Canada last year.

Last September, the Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement condemning the rise of hate crimes against Indians and anti-India activities in Canada, expressing their concern with stern language.

Statistics Canada reported a 72 per cent increase in hate crimes based on religion, sexual orientation, and race between 2019 and 2021.

This has led to increased fears among minority communities, particularly the Indian community, which is the fastest-growing demographic group in Canada, accounting for almost four per cent of the population.

‘All-out revolution’: Proud Boy describes group’s desperation as Jan. 6 approached

    [ad_1]

    capitol riot proud boys 02657

Now, the group’s leaders — Tarrio and Joe Biggs of Florida, Ethan Nordean of Seattle, Zachary Rehl of Philadelphia and Dominic Pezzola of New York — are facing the gravest charges to emerge from the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

“Everyone felt very desperate,” Bertino said of the group’s increasingly militant rhetoric as Jan. 6 neared, particularly after the Supreme Court declined to take up Trump’s actions. As for Tarrio, Bertino added, “His tones were calculated, cold but very determined that he felt the exact same way that I did.”

Bertino didn’t travel to Washington on Jan. 6, in part because he was nursing a stab wound from a skirmish during a Dec. 12, 2020, visit to Washington to protest Trump’s defeat. But he remained in contact with the group on Jan. 6, including Tarrio, who had been released from jail and traveled to a Baltimore hotel. Prosecutors showed jurors Bertino’s excited messages, urging the Proud Boys to push farther into the Capitol and help disrupt the counting of electoral votes intended to certify Biden’s victory.

“I thought I was watching history,” Bertino recalled. “I thought it was historical. I thought it was a revolution starting.”

When one member of the group informed others that then-Vice President Mike Pence had resisted Trump’s entreaties to overturn the election on his own, Bertino assured them: “Don’t worry, boys. America’s taking care of it right now.”

Bertino’s jubilance turned into fury after Trump told rioters to go home and law enforcement cleared the Capitol.

“We failed,” he told other Proud Boys in various Telegram chats, after Congress had returned to continue certifying Biden’s victory. He lamented that the rioters caused mayhem simply to “take selfies in Pelosi’s office.”

That sentiment continued into Jan. 7.

“I’m done fellas,” Bertino said in a voice message to the group. “In case you couldn’t fucking tell. I’m done. I didn’t take a knife in the fucking — in the lungs to watch the power be given right the fuck back to these evil cocksuckers. We need fucking war. We need to take it back. And we need to fucking get these motherfuckers. Judge, jury, executioner, we need to fucking hang traitors.”

“You ready to go full fash?” asked Proud Boy leader John Stewart in response, referring to fascism. Later, Stewart blamed the “normies” — the Proud Boys’ term for nonmembers who align with them — for having “stopped 25% of the way in.”

“That building should still be occupied right now. They should have cops stuck inside that building … They decided to run around and take a bunch of fucking selfies. And, you know, steal some fucking memorabilia to prove that they were in there so that their conviction is assured.”

Throughout Bertino’s testimony — his second day on the stand — Prosecutors homed in on messages sent among Bertino and other Proud Boys leaders discussing the prospect of violence on Jan. 6, and noted repeatedly that Tarrio and other defendants never pushed back or suggested violence wasn’t the goal.

The entire trial — perhaps the most crucial to emerge from the Jan. 6 attack — may hinge on whether jurors believe Bertino’s testimony. He was in frequent contact with Tarrio and other group leaders in the weeks leading up to Jan. 6 and provided context for the group’s lengthy chats.

Defense attorneys have yet to cross-examine him, but they’re likely to press him on the contours of his plea deal with the government, as well as his voluminous testimony to the Jan. 6 select committee, which omitted many of the key details he described to the jury on Wednesday.

For example, Bertino described in court — but not to the select committee — an extensive Telegram chat with Tarrio on Jan. 6, while both men were watching the riot unfold from afar. Bertino described a feeling of pride at seeing the Proud Boys help lead the way into the Capitol and a pang of jealousy for being absent.

“I wanted to be there to witness what I believed was the next American revolution,” Bertino told jurors.

Bertino also clarified an odd text to Tarrio that read “They need to get peloton.” It was an autocorrect for Pelosi, Bertino said.

“She was the target, as far as the one who had been pushing the information [about the election],” Bertino recalled thinking. “She was the talking head of the opposition. And they needed to remove her from power.”

  • BRS’s Kavitha describes PM Modi’s speech as disappointing, repetitive

BRS’s Kavitha describes PM Modi’s speech as disappointing, repetitive

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K Kavitha described Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech addressed in Lok Sabha on Wednesday as disappointing and repetitive.

Speaking to reporters, she said that the speech has been heard almost 100 times in the Parliament.

“It was a very rhetorical speech that he has given 100 times. It had no mention of Adani, no mention of the money lost of middle-class people, common people,” she said.

Kavitha remarked that the national Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) copies schemes from Telangana.

“Rythu Bandhu is a vision and flagship scheme of the KCR government. Today when the PM spoke about PM Kisan Yojna, he openly lied about the figures of beneficiaries of the scheme. If you believe you can lie and still come back to power people will see the arrogance,” Kavitha said.

She spoke about Modi’s silence on the Adani expose by Hindenburg at the Parliament. “If PM Modi wants to conveniently give ornate speech to hide behind the national flag to protect his friend Adani then only time will decide the fate of this government.”

“Adani or Pradhani it’s all the same now, it’s entwined. Every single person knows that they are two sides of the same coin,” Kavitha added.

Kavitha further said that BRS has questions for PM Modi that should be answered..

“What is the current status of the State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Bank of Baroda, and the LIC? And has the government chalked out a plan to bail them?” she asked.

Lastly, she said that PM Modi acts like a ‘traffic police’ by diverting criticism towards Opposition parties.
