SP, BSP are in ICU: UP Deputy CM Maurya

    [ad_1]

Bareilly: Expressing confidence that the BJP will win a large number of seats in the civic body polls, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Monday said both the Samajwadi Party and the BSP are “in the ICU” and that voters are not willing to provide “oxygen” to them.

Campaigning for BJP’s mayor candidate Umesh Gautam here, Maurya said, “If there is a need to bring money for the development of Bareilly, it will be brought from Delhi and Lucknow. Goddess Lakshmi does not come on ‘elephant’ (BSP poll symbol), ‘hand’ (Congress symbol), or ‘cycle’ (SP symbol) but only on ‘lotus’ (BJP symbol).”

Targeting the opposition parties, the deputy CM said, “SP and BSP are in the ICU and people are not giving oxygen to them. If they get oxygen, they will again trouble the people. If the voters give them a chance, then they will also reach the ICU.”

    MS Education Academy

He said that the SP, the BSP and the Congress will be ousted when the results of municipal elections come on May 13. “The BJP has the blessings of the public. There are achievements of the double-engine government before all.”

Claiming that the BJP will win all the 17 municipal corporations of the state, including Bareilly, Maurya said, “A triple-engine government is being formed in place of the double-engine government as mafia raj has ended in the state.”

A new era of development has begun, he said, appealing to voters to ensure the victory of the BJP candidates in the municipal elections.

  • Denied BJP ticket, former deputy CM Savadi joins Congress in poll-bound Karnataka

Denied BJP ticket, former deputy CM Savadi joins Congress in poll-bound Karnataka

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Former Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi, who announced his decision to resign from the primary membership of the BJP after being denied a ticket to contest in the May 10 Assembly elections, on Friday joined the Congress.

Savadi would now be the grand old party’s candidate in Athani in Belagavi district, Congress leaders said.

His decision came after a meeting with Karnataka Congress chief D K Shivakumar, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Siddaramaiah and Congress general secretary and party in-charge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala.

    MS Education Academy

“Our meeting with Savadi took place in a cordial manner. We are aware of his dignity and position. He has agreed to become a member of our (Congress) family of his own volition. He is coming with us after accepting the party’s ideology and leadership,” Shivakumar, who was flanked by Savadi and Siddaramaiah, told reporters.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said he was “saddened” by Savadi’s decision to part ways with the BJP and join the Congress.

“…I’m feeling very sad, we shared a close bond. Sometimes such political situations arise,” Bommai said. “He might have found his political future in Congress. We will do our job in our party.” .

Savadi, who resigned as an MLC on Friday, said he had been loyal to the BJP and helped the party candidates win in other parts of the state as well, but it did not live up to its promise of fielding him in the 2023 Assembly election from Athani.

On his decision to join the Congress, Savadi, a three-time MLA from Athani, said he had only demanded a ticket to contest the elections, besides completion of some irrigation projects in his constituency that are pending, in the event of the Congress coming to power..

Ignoring Savadi’s request, the BJP had earlier this week given the Athani ticket to sitting MLA Mahesh Kumathalli. Savadi had lost the 2018 elections to Kumathalli, who was then with the Congress.

Kumathalli was among the group of defectors who helped the BJP bring down the Congress-JD(S) coalition government and form its own government under the leadership of B S Yediyurappa in 2019.

Kumathalli later joined the BJP and successfully contested the Athani by-election on the party ticket.

Attacking the BJP, Savadi said he had not demanded the deputy chief minister’s post from the ruling party in 2019 but they had given it to him and thereafter removed him from the position without informing him, which he perceived as an insult.

“After losing the election (in 2018), I was made an MLC and then the deputy chief minister. But later they removed me. Why did they make me a minister and then remove me,” he asked.

Replying to a question, he said the BJP should answer why he was denied a ticket to contest in the May 10 Assembly elections.

  • Land-for-jobs ‘scam’: Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi questioned by CBI, ED quizzes sister Misa

Land-for-jobs ‘scam’: Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi questioned by CBI, ED quizzes sister Misa

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Investigation agencies on Saturday questioned Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav and his MP sister Misa Bharti in connection with the railways land-for-jobs scam case here, officials said.

While Yadav was quizzed by the CBI for more than eight hours, the ED questioned Bharti for over six hours, they said.

Slamming the BJP over the questioning of the two Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra alleged the ruling party wants to finish off the Opposition and democracy and also expressed solidarity saying, “We are all united against the attack on democracy.”

In a tweet in Hindi, she said, “BJP wants to finish off the Opposition and democracy from this country. That is why it is continuously attacking the voice of the people in the Opposition.”

Yadav had missed three earlier dates given by the agency and arrived at the CBI headquarters here around 10:30 am according to his commitment to the Delhi High Court last week, they said.

He was questioned till around 8 PM with a nearly 90-minute lunch break, during which he went out of the building, they said.

The CBI’s line of inquiry was believed to have focused on Yadav’s financial transactions, including his purported links to AB Exports Private Limited and AK Infosystems Pvt Ltd.

Last week, the CBI assured the Delhi High Court that Yadav would not be arrested this month.

Bharti was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the railways land-for-jobs linked money laundering case here, officials said.

The Rajya Sabha member went to the agency’s office in central Delhi around 11 am and exited around 7 pm.

She left for lunch for over an hour in the noon during she which told waiting reporters outside the ED office that the proceedings were “confidential” and hence she would not want to comment.

It is understood that her statement was recorded by the investigating officer under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Yadav’s counsel, Maninder Singh, had informed the high court that he would require some time to appear before the CBI investigators due to the ongoing Bihar Assembly session, scheduled to conclude on April 5.

The CBI’s counsel, D P Singh, had argued that the assembly was not convened on Saturdays and Yadav could appear before the agency on any Saturday in March according to his convenience.

The RJD leader had sought quashing of the summonses issued against him on February 28, March 4 and March 11.

A special CBI court had already granted bail to Yadav’s father Lalu Prasad, mother Rabri Devi, sister Bharti and others in the same case on March 15.

The CBI’s probe is part of an ongoing investigation into documents and evidence that came to light after the initial charge sheet was submitted, as well as the alleged involvement of accused persons that could not be completed by the time the initial report was filed.

Officials said that fresh questioning was taking place as part of further investigation based on new inputs gathered during the agency’s ongoing probe.

The CBI has alleged that during Lalu Prasad’s tenure as railway minister from 2004 to 2009, favourite candidates were appointed in violation of norms and procedures without any advertisement or public notice.

The agency further claimed that substitutes from Patna were appointed in various zonal railways in Mumbai, Jabalpur, Kolkata, Jaipur, and Hazipur. In return, the candidates, directly or through their family members, allegedly sold land to Prasad’s family members at highly-discounted rates.

Congress questions absence of Deputy LS Speaker for past 4 yrs

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Sunday questioned the non-appointment of a Deputy Speaker in the Lok Sabha, terming it “unconstitutional”.

“For the last 4 years there has been no Deputy Speaker in the Lok Sabha. This is unconstitutional. What a far cry from March 1956 when Nehru proposed the name of Sardar Hukam Singh an Opposition Akali Dal MP & a critic of Nehru for the post & he was unanimously elected”, he said in a tweet.

In the Lok Sabha, there has been a precedent of appointing a opposition MP as Deputy Speaker but in the current house, the post has been vacant since its constitution.

In the first Narendra Modi government, AIADMK’s M. Thambidurai was the Deputy Speaker while in the UPA regime, the post was held Akali Dal’s Charanjit Singh Atwal and then BJP’s Kariya Munda.

Adams quietly creates new offices, empowering low-profile deputy mayor

    [ad_1]

    nyc mayor rats 70208

Marmara, who made $224,618 last year with overtime, worked in Southeast Queens. During his three decades on the force, the Civilian Complaint Review Board substantiated three complaints against him, including one in 1996 related to use of force, according to public records.

His new office is tasked with helping city agencies “monitor and assess the delivery of services to the public and other key stakeholders to ensure that services are delivered in a professional, equitable, efficient and effective manner,” according to the executive order Adams signed Jan. 26.

It is expected to spot “deficiencies” in agencies and is empowered to conduct audits and direct commissioners on how to respond to community complaints. And it can monitor how effectively departments are correcting mistakes or poor performance related to “delivery of services,” the order reads.

The office affords Banks an expanded role beyond overseeing public safety, while taking on a politically relevant issue that Adams has deemed one of his priorities — improving government efficacy.

Until now, Banks’ job has been restricted to public safety agencies like the FDNY and Office of Emergency Management. From his office in a private building a few blocks from City Hall, he can keep an eye on the NYPD — where he served as chief of department before stepping down amid a federal corruption probe for which he was an unindicted co-conspirator. He was never charged.

Meanwhile the risk management office began operating last year but hadn’t been formally established until Adams signed the executive order in January.

As a candidate in 2021, Adams announced plans to create an office that would root out waste, fraud and abuse in city government. Run by former Deputy Comptroller Marjorie Landa, the office has six employees and a budget of $900,000, the spokesperson said.

Among the office’s tasks is auditing city agencies and troubleshooting independent audits conducted by city and state comptrollers. Adams is likely to come under increased scrutiny from City Comptroller Brad Lander as the passage of time weakens the standard tactic of blaming bad audits on the prior mayor.

Landa’s office is expected to track agency implementation of the comptrollers’ audit recommendations and report its own findings to the city’s Department of Investigation when necessary, according to the executive order.

“Making government work for everyday New Yorkers and ensuring taxpayer dollars are spent wisely are at the heart of Mayor Adams’ vision for a more equitable city,” spokesperson Jonah Allon said, noting these offices are the first of their kind. “Under the mayor’s leadership, these offices will promote smart, data-driven solutions to ensure city agencies are fulfilling their core mandates and delivering better, more efficient services to New Yorkers.”

On Friday Adams announced the creation of the Mayor’s Office for Child Care and Early Childhood Education, to focus on connecting families with “equitable, high-quality and affordable early education and care.” It comes as Adams is scaling back a pre-kindergarten program for 3-year-olds, which he said is not reaching the families most in need of it.
