Kuwait denies residency permit renewal of 5000 expats

    [ad_1]

Kuwait: Kuwait’s Interior Ministry has denied residency permit renewal applications for 5,000 expatriates who have stayed abroad for more than six months.

The expatriates reportedly submitted their renewal applications online, citing “illness, family situations, and financial incapacitation, among other reasons”, as their reasons for staying abroad for more than six months.

“Other expatriates will also lose their iqamas this month for the same reason. The ministry, through the department of residency affairs, automatically and immediately cancels the residency of any expatriate who has been outside Kuwait for six months,” a source at the interior ministry told Kuwait Times.

In October 2022, the Interior Ministry announced it would electronically cancel residence permits for government sector workers.

The ministry also included private sector partners and their dependents, students and self-sponsored residents whose visas will be canceled if they have been outside the country for six months or more.

As per media reports, the ministry calculates the period of absence of expatriates from the country from August 1, 2022 to January 31, 2023. After six months, their residency will be automatically revoked.

According to Kuwaiti law, the maximum length of stay for expatriates outside the country is six months. Although this was in effect earlier, based on humanitarian considerations, since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, the cabinet had given special permission to non-residents to stay outside the country for more than six months and to renew their residence documents online.

Expatriates make up approximately 3.4 million of Kuwait’s total population of 4.6 million.

Google denies it copied ChatGPT to train its own AI chatbot Bard

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Google has denied the reports that it is copying Microsoft-owned OpenAI’s ChatGPT to train its AI chatbot called Bard.

A report in The Information claimed that OpenAI’s success “has forced the two AI research teams within Google’s parent, Alphabet, to overcome years of intense rivalry to work together”.

According to the report, citing sources, software engineers at Google’s Brain AI group are working with employees at DeepMind, which is a sibling company within Alphabet to develop software to compete with OpenAI.

“Known internally as Gemini, the joint effort began in recent weeks, after Google stumbled with Bard, its first attempt to compete with OpenAI’s chatbot,” the report claimed.

However, a Google spokesperson told The Verge that “Bard is not trained on any data from ShareGPT or ChatGPT”.

Meanwhile, Google has announced it is opening up access to its ChatGPT competitor “Bard” as an early experiment for users to collaborate with generative AI.

Early access to Bard has rolled out in the US and the UK, and the company said it will expand the access over time to more countries and languages.

Bard, like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Microsoft’s Bing chatbot, is based on a large language model (LLM), specifically a lightweight and optimised version of LaMDA, which the tech giant said will be updated with newer, more capable models in the future.

Users can interact with Bard by asking questions and refining their responses with follow-up questions.

Rahul attends Parliament panel meet on external affairs, denies anti-India remarks

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: After returning from London, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi attended the meeting of the parliamentary committee on external affairs where, sources said he responded to the BJP MPs without naming him about MPs going abroad and speaking against the country.

The meeting was held on Saturday.

Sources said Rahul Gandhi said that he has not spoken anything which is against the country. The members of the ruling party objected to this, but Rahul was supported by the opposition members, sources said. After which External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar intervened and said the members should speak on the subject.

Rahul has been insisting that he wants to speak in the House and met the Speaker a few days ago. He said four Ministers have raised allegations against him in Parliament House so he has the right to respond.

“It is my right to be allowed to speak on the floor of the House. I requested the speaker today. I went to his chamber and I requested him. I said – look, I would very much like to speak. I told him that people from the BJP have made allegations against me and as a Member of Parliament, it is my right to speak,” he said on Thursday.

The BJP has ceased the opportunity to target Rahul Gandhi, and BJP National President J.P. Nadda has said that Rahul Gandhi has become “a permanent part of this anti-nationalist toolkit”.

Nadda said: “It’s unfortunate that the Congress party is indulging in anti-national activities. After being repeatedly rejected by the nation, Rahul Gandhi has now become a permanent part of this anti-nationalist toolkit.”

  • Judge denies media access to records in Mar-a-Lago grand jury fight

Judge denies media access to records in Mar-a-Lago grand jury fight

    [ad_1]

In her latest six-page ruling, Howell said revealing any of the records publicly would invade grand jury secrecy.

“Responding to petitioners’ request would be infeasible without disclosing grand jury material because, if the government asked to hold the former president in contempt, as petitioners allege, that request would have been part of an effort to secure compliance with the grand jury Subpoena,” wrote Howell, taking care not to confirm any details of the battle. “The requested filings would invariably and consistently touch on ‘matters occurring before the grand jury.’”

Howell noted news reports about prosecutors’ efforts to seek contempt proceedings over allegedly inadequate efforts by Trump lawyers to locate documents with classification markings related to the ongoing probe headed by special counsel Jack Smith.

Last month, Howell denied a similar access request from POLITICO and The New York Times for information about privilege battles relating to prosecutors’ efforts to call former White House aides before a grand jury investigating attempts to interfere with the certification of the 2020 presidential election.

But last month, Howell also opted to unseal several significant filings in a grand jury matter connected to Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.), a key ally in Trump’s effort to overturn the 2020 election. Howell said the grand jury materials in that case could be released in part because the court of appeals held public arguments about the matter that revealed details that had previously been public.

Howell, an appointee of President Barack Obama, is set to end her seven-year term as chief judge next week. Grand jury-related matters not resolved by then are expected to be transferred to her successor, U.S. District Court Judge James Boasberg, also an Obama appointee.

Santos’ comments come after POLITICO exclusively reported that his former roommate, Gustavo Ribeiro Trelha, claimed Santos oversaw the credit card operation. Gaya deaths: Indian Army denies any firing practice in Deuri Dumri range on Holi

    [ad_1]

Patna: A day after three persons of a family lost their lives and two others injured in a blast in Bihar’s Gaya, the Indian Army on Thursday held that there was no firing practice session in Deuri-Dumri range in the district on the day in question.

In a statement, the army clarified that there was no mortar firing practice in Deuri-Dumri range in Gaya on the day of Holi, and it will cooperate with the investigating agencies. It has also expressed deep condolences to the family members of those who lost their loved ones in the Wednesday accident.

The villagers of Guler Bind claimed that there was firing practice in the Deuri-Dumri range and one shell fell in the adjoining village and exploded. Due to the explosion, three persons lost their lives and two others were seriously injured in this incident.

As per the army statement, whenever a firing session was to be held in the range, the local range officer takes prior permission from the district administration and alerts the villagers residing in the surroundings of the range. As there was no firing practice scheduled on March 8, the local army official did not take permission from the district administration.

The statement further said that there is a suspicion of blind mortar shells were accumulated at the place for trading and termed it a wrong and dangerous practice. There is also a possibility that a mortar shell fell earlier and was found by anyone leading to an explosion on March 8, it added.

The villagers have shown the round circle pit having the size of mortar shell but if a mortar shell explodes, it does not leave such a signature on the soil, it said.

Terming the incident “unfortunate”, the army has expressed deep sorrow and condolences to the family members of the victims and said that it is ready to help the district administration as well as the villagers.

Andrew Tate denies lung cancer claims; Dubai hospital condemns medical letter leak

    [ad_1]

The controversial British-American kickboxer turned social media influencer Andrew Tate, who has been detained in Romania since December, has denied having lung cancer.

This comes after a copy of his medical file went viral on social media platforms and also came after his manager, The Sartorial Shooter took to Instagram on Friday to inform that the news was true.

Now, Tate has denied the news and called it rumours. Taking to Twitter, he said his lungs have the capacity of an “Olympic athlete”.

“I do not have cancer. My lungs contain precisely 0 smoking damage. In fact, I have an 8L lung capacity and the vital signs of an Olympic athlete,” Andrew Tate tweeted.

“There is nothing but a scar on my lung from an old battle. True warriors are scarred both inside and out,” he added.

He believes that “As one of the most influential men on the face of the planet, it is important for the good of humanity that I live as long as possible. At my current strength levels, I estimate to survive at least 5,000 more years.”

“It is important for the good of humanity that I live as long as possible. At my current strength levels, I estimate to survive for at least 5000 more years. With this in mind, I take my medical care extremely seriously,” Tate continued in a Twitter thread.

Moreover, he mentioned his health check before his arrest in Romania.

“I had a regular checkup organized in Dubai pre-detention. The doctors were extremely interested in the scar on my lung. They do not understand how I survive without treatment. They do not know the secrets of Wudan. But this battle has long passed,” the influencer concluded.

Dubai hospital condemns leak of Tate’s medical letter

In response to a leak of the letter, King’s College Hospital in London where Tate was receiving treatment said, “We confirm that the letter, which details Mr Tate’s visits at our hospital in Dubai Hills, and the Medical Centres in Dubai Marina and Jumeirah, as well as the diagnostic tests he underwent was issued by one of our family medicine practitioners Dr Ali Razzak.”

Razzak is the medical director of King’s Dubai Marina Medical Center and Tate’s primary care physician, according to the statement.

Regarding the leaked documents, the hospital “strongly condemned” it and reiterated that the leak did not happen on their end.

Tate is a British-American citizen known for his misogynistic views. He has 5.1 million Twitter followers.

He was arrested on December 29, 2022, when authorities descended on his property north of Bucharest. His brother, Tristan, and two Romanian women are also in detention in the same case. None of the four has been formally charged.
