    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana Gig and Platform Workers’ Union (TGPWU) have demanded justice for the Swiggy delivery boy who lost his life in a tragic road accident on May 5.

Raju, 31, a resident of the Gandhi colony met with a fatal road accident while delivering food in Alwal of Hyderabad following which he was rushed to the nearby hospital. However, he soon succumbed to his injuries.

Being the only earning member of his family, Raju was survived by an old and ailing mother, a wife, and two small children.

    MS Education Academy

Additionally, Raju was also paying for his wife, Soni Rasapuram’s education who is studying first year of B.Ed.

Soon after the accident, the family tried to contact the management at Swiggy. However, they ended up receiving a computer-generated response with none from the company reaching out to the family so far.

TGPWU’s founder and president, Shaik Salauddin who visited the bereaved family on Monday said, “Raju’s death stands completely ignored by the company. The family was left distressed.”

The union has promised the family to step in and negotiate with Swiggy while they demand Rs 25 lakh as compensation in case of death under the Workmen’s Compensation Act, 1923 (which is to compensate workers who have encountered injuries due to an accident during their employment).

TGPWU has further demanded that police should file an FIR against the person who had hit Raju in the accident and also facilitate compensation from the accused to Raju’s family.

    Accident on May 5

The incident reportedly occurred at night when a speeding car from Kanaji Guda hit a person, and then continued to run until a high-tension pole made it stop.

The incident caused injuries to three people, including Raju who was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.

Police identified the driver as a software employee who accelerated her car by mistake, while she was supposed to hit the brake to avoid hitting a man who came in front of the car, ending up in a major accident.

  • Hyderabad: Row over ORR toll collection; BJP demands ‘no toll’

Hyderabad: Row over ORR toll collection; BJP demands ‘no toll’

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana BJP leader Gudur Narayan Reddy on Wednesday demanded Telangana government cancel the toll collection right given to a private company on the Toll Operate Transfer (TOT) method for Rs 7380 crores for three decades reasoning that it would incur a loss to Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).

In a media statement, he said that the decision of the state government was like killing the goose that lays golden eggs and smacks of a scam.

He alleged that the government has given toll collection right to a Mumbai-based company at less than half the price that could be earned in the coming three decades.

    MS Education Academy

Alleging that the whole process is a scam, the BJP leader said that the government has given the right collect to toll on ORR on Toll Operate and Transfer method to the private company at a rate of Rs 7380 crores for 30 years, whereas it is estimated that about Rs 17000 crores could be earned in 30 years.

“It means that the company would make a profit of more than Rs 10,000 crores in the next three decades,” said Gudur while adding that the government was supposed to give toll collection right only for two to four years and not 30 as in the case.

Stating that the BRS government which would be out of power in five months has usurped the rights of the next six governments, Reddy said, “It was nothing but an undemocratic and unjustifiable act of BRS.”

The BJP leader further said that at present the estimated revenue through toll collection on ORR was about Rs 540 crores per annum and will likely be reaching up to Rs 650 crores per annum by 2033 and that sums up the average revenue per each decade to Rs 5200 crores.

Pointing that the deal is a loss for HMDA, Reddy said, “The government has accepted the low price offered by the Mumbai-based company to secure the right, the revenue would be less than 2500 crores per decade.”

While recollecting that the BRS government had been criticizing the BJP government at the Centre for selling public sector companies, the BJP leader said that the former did not have any right to entrust the projects to private companies at a throwaway price.

Arvind Kumar sys ORR operation bid finalised as per norms

Explaining TOT, the special chief secretary of Telangana, Arvind Kumar said that the system for the toll collection on ORR is not to increase the toll but taken up as per the NHAI rules.

Addressing a press conference organised on Wednesday to clear out the glitch about awarding the TOT contract, Arvind Kumar said the toll policy of the Telangana government is based on the National Highways Fee Rules, 2008, and toll collection on ORR will follow the same guidelines.

Defending the process of global tenders for awarding the contract for 30 years, Arvind said that the bids represented the Net Present Value (NPV) of the future cash revenue estimates.

NPV is arrived at after discounting inflation and overheads such as operation and maintenance expenditure, income tax, changes in working capital, interest on short-term loans and others.

“Rs 7380 crore today is not of the same value as Rs 7380 crore in 30 years,” asserted Arvind, adding that there will be a review every 10 years, to go over the actual revenue realisation and the agreement will be brought down if the traffic increases.

The TOT contract was awarded to IRB Infrastructure Developers Limited for the highest bid amount of Rs 7380 crore, among four competitors which included Adani Road Transport and present concessionaire Eagle Infra.

Given the Rs 542 crore toll collection on ORR for the year 2022-23, several questions were raised about the throwaway price for which the contract had been given, which Arvind Kumar sought to answer through the press conference.

Aurangabad: Congress demands judicial probe on violence during Ram Navami

    [ad_1]

Aurangabad: Former Maharashtra minister and Congress leader Arif Naseem Khan on Wednesday demanded a probe by a sitting high court judge into the violence in Aurangabad city ahead of Ram Navami, saying no report has been brought on the incident yet.

At least 12 persons, including 10 policemen, were injured after a mob of around 500 people went berserk and hurled stones and petrol-filled bottles when the cops tried to control the situation following a clash between two groups near a Ram temple at Kiradpura locality on the intervening night of March 29 and March 30.

Ram Navami was celebrated on March 30.

    MS Education Academy

Khan spoke to the media after meeting Aurangabad Police Commissioner Manoj Lohiya.

“We expect an inquiry by a high court judge in the case of Kiradpura violence in Aurangabad a few hours before Ram Navami. The incident occurred over a month ago, but no report citing the reason behind it has come out yet,” Khan said.

Condemning the incident, Khan said it has to be investigated to find out what are the elements behind it and “who is getting the political mileage out of it”.

“Hate speeches were given in Aurangabad on March 18 and March 19. Later, after a period of one week or more, the incident (violence near Ram temple) took place. Why did the police not act on it and beef up security in the city,” Khan asked.

  • FCIK Demands Govt Intervention To Stop JK Bank’s ‘Smear Campaign’

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: The Federation of Chambers of Industries Kashmir (FCIK) has called for immediate intervention by the UT government in resolving issues between J&K Bank and MSMEs, in order to put a stop to the maligning campaign launched by the former against non-performing assets (NPAs) without giving them a reasonable opportunity of being heard.

The demand was made in a marathon meeting between the FCIK Advisory Committee and Presidents of organized industrial estates, held at FCIK headquarters under the chairmanship of M.D. Qureshi, which was attended by Presidents of industrial estates including Lassipora, Khunmoh, Rangreth, Zainakote, Sanat Nagar, BAMK, Zakura, Anchidora Anantnag, Vessu, Ganderbal, Gagran Shopian, Shalteng, Sopore, Baramullah, Kupwara, besides other members of the Advisory Committee.

The Presidents of various industrial estates presented a detailed account of continued financial stress currently prevalent in MSMEs owing to a number of reasons which, among other difficulties, has also led to growing NPAs. They said that the unilateral withdrawal of marketing support to MSMEs committed under the industrial policy of 2016-26, coupled with long spells of business interruptions during re-organisation and Covid restrictions, had been the main reason for this financial stress. Further withholding or delaying of payments on account of supply of material and execution of works to government departments and PSUs had contributed to the stressfulness of hundreds of enterprises.

The meeting regretted that, contrary to acknowledgment of such difficulties, the bank has launched an unwarranted and undesired campaign of maligning and tarnishing the public image of entrepreneurs, adding that such tactics were detrimental not only to the cause of industrial growth and promotion but also to the cordial relations of J&K Bank with local MSMEs.

The meeting underscored the role of the UT government as mediator between J&K Bank and MSMEs in order to identify an acceptable solution to the issue for the benefit of both parties. The members made it clear that all MSMEs were willing to repay their loans to the bank on the launch of a uniform, non-discriminatory restructuring and OTS schemes with a reasonable timeline. The members reminded that the harsh provisions of SARFAESI Act in the UT required some dilution and relief for the reason that the enterprises here were working under most unconducive and disturbed conditions, unlike their counterparts in the rest of the country. The meeting expected the UT government to step in for the sake of reposing faith and confidence of entrepreneurs on their promoters and use its influence as majority shareholders to shape the desired restructuring/OTS schemes. The government also needed to link these schemes with the rehabilitation of sick industrial units under an existent revival and rehabilitation scheme.

Earlier, the President of Industrial Growth Centre Lassipora, Haji Muzaffar, presented a detailed account of the recent visit of MD and other top officials of J&K Bank and informed about their willingness to facilitate NPAs with a suitable OTS scheme besides enhancing access to credit for prospective and existing industrial units. Muzaffar said that during the extensive visit to various industrial units, the MD and his team had a complete idea and expressed satisfaction on the working of manufacturing units from grassroots.

The Advisory Committee, while endorsing the views and suggestions of its constituents, assured the meeting to put in their efforts for holding separate and joint meetings with bank authorities and government to find a lasting solution to all bank issues. The constituents vowed their full support to FCIK Advisory Committee in all its steps and programs which they deem necessary in the process of obtaining relief to the industrial units in distress.

BJP team blames Odisha’s BJD govt for Sambalpur violence, demands CBI probe

    [ad_1]

Sambalpur: The BJP MP’s team that visited Sambalpur, the scene of violence between two communities during Hanuman Jayanti processions last month, on Tuesday, “blamed” the BJD government in Odisha for it and demanded a CBI probe into the incident.

Three members of the team – Uttar Pradesh Rajya Sabha member Brij Lal, party MP from Jharkhand Samir Oraon and Jyotirmay Singh Mahato from West Bengal visited the western Odisha city and will submit their report to BJP president J P Nadda.

During the visit, the team members interacted with Biswanath Sikka alias Kalia of Bhawanipali, who was injured in the incident. However, they could not meet the family of Chandrakant Mirdha, a tribal, of Jharmunda village, who was murdered on April 14.

    MS Education Academy

Talking to reporters, Brij Lal, who led the delegation, said, the violence during the bike rally on April 12 was a “planned” incident.

The ruling Biju Janata Dal strongly opposed the BJP team’s visit to the violence hit Sambalpur and said that the saffron party would be “held responsible” if there is any recurrence of violence in the region.

“These people want violence to prevail and therefore instigating communities. The BJP team visits the place as they have no faith in police, administration, national human rights commission or even the national commission for ST,” BJD Mahila wing president Snehangini Chhuria told reporters at a press conference in Jharsuguda.

Brij Lal told reporters that the special branch of Odisha police had alerted the state government about the possibility of the violence. Even the Union Ministry of Home Affairs had also issued an advisory. But the deployment of police in such a sensitive place, where the violence took place on April 12, was “very poor”.

“This is not all, even police were not equipped to deal the situation. Anti-national slogans were raised during the rally. It is the complete failure of the state government and the police. Had there been adequate deployment, the violence could have been averted”, he said.

Brij Lal further said, the man who was murdered was the only son of the family. However, “we could not meet the family as the house was closed. Surprisingly, the administration has no answer on the whereabouts of the family,” he said and alleged that the tribal tradition had not been followed while performing the last rites of the tribal man, Chandarakant Mirdha.

The Sambalpur Superintendent of Police B Gangadhar said that police arrested at least six persons in connection with Mirdha’s murder.

His death had nothing to do with the violence in the city on April 12 and 14, the SP claimed, adding that many people including 10 police personnel were injured and a number of shops gutted during the clash.

The city was placed under curfew for several days and internet services were suspended in view of the violence.

Brij Lal said: “We met Biswanath Sikka who was injured in the incident and interacted with him. We also interacted with the different civil society organizations. During the visit, we found that the violence in Sambalpur was result of complete failure of the BJD.” He accused the BJD of doing appeasement politics.

“We will submit a report to our national president JP Nadda over the entire incident. We also demand the state government to write to the union government for investigation into the entire incident by CBI in assistance with the National Investigation Agency (NIA),” he said.

IWPC urges government to take empathetic view on wrestlers’ demands

New Delhi: The Indian Women’s Press Corps on Saturday urged the government to take an empathetic view of the issues raised by the protesting women wrestlers demanding a probe against Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over allegations of sexual harassment.

In a statement, the IWPC said it stands in solidarity with the women wrestlers. It also deplored any form of harassment and sexual exploitation of women sportspersons.

“These women wrestlers have made our country proud and have been sitting on protest for several days now. As women sports professionals, they need to be supported and encouraged,” it said.

  • FCIK Demands Action Against Government Order Violators

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: The Federation of Chambers of Industries Kashmir (FCIK) has expressed concern over non-compliance of government orders by various departments regarding the procurement of 25% of their total annual procurement of goods or services from Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and has urged for strict action against violators of orders.

In a statement issued to the press, the FCIK regretted that a government circular issued under No: FD-Code/240/2022-02-1899 dated 24-02-2023 issued by the Finance Department Codes Division, which makes it mandatory upon all government departments and Public sector undertakings to earmark and procure a minimum of 25% of the total overall annual procurement of goods or services from MSMEs, besides earmarking 3% from within the 25% target for earmarking for micro and small enterprises owned by women, was openly being flouted.

The FCIK has informed that the violation was mainly being done by the engineering departments under the garb of “providing and fixing” affixed to the nomenclature of any industrial product in their NITs to convert its configuration to a so-called works contract. “In some cases where the engineering departments make it open for both MSMEs and the contractors, the work order is grabbed by the latter for having quoted lesser rates than a manufacturing unit,” said the spokesman of FCIK, surprised that “how was it possible that a contractor who ought to procure industrial goods from a manufacturing unit before their installation could win the very contract from the same manufacturing unit in a tendering competition”.

The FCIK has drawn attention to the government towards the use of untested, unauthentic, low-quality, and deviation in the use of material in many of these works contracts. “Whereas the power transformers, conductors, and other equipment manufactured by the local industry were subjected to multiple and rigorous testing before delivery, such a process was dormant in most of the works contracts,” said FCIK, adding that this paved the way for the installation of untested and substandard goods. It has also been observed that many contractors were using imported deodar-resembling timber against the specified deodar specie mentioned in the contracts, informed FCIK. “Such imported timber is far less in cost than Deodar, which is sold only by the J&K State Forest Corporation alone,” said FCIK, adding that “departments required to ascertain in the first instance that how could a contractor quote rates below the average sale price of JKSFC if he didn’t intend to deviate from specifications later”. FCIK had recently taken up the matter of the use of Rajasthani Kota stone in place of local devri stone tiles in the “smart city project” which amounted to brazen deviation from the specifications. All such quality issues could be taken care of only when these industrial goods were procured by industrial units, claimed FCIK.

FCIK has urged upon all Administrative departments to monitor that their subordinate offices adhere to the government instructions regarding earmarking and procurement of 25% of their annual requirements from MSMEs besides segregating industrial goods from works contracts. The Finance department has already established that a meager cost towards the installation of an industrial product could not change its nomenclature to a works contract, informed FCIK.

FCIK has invited the attention of Principal Secretary PWD and Chief Engineer R&B towards the NIT No: 05 of R&B/Khanabal/2023-24/E-Tendering/1035-44 dated 24-04-2023 issued by Executive Engineer, R&B Division, Khanabal for 16 various works and has sought their intervention in making the concerned to change the eligibility criteria for specified industrial related works to keep it restricted to registered MSMEs only.

ABVP meets UGC chairman, demands CUET-UG ‘common counselling’

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: A delegation of RSS-affiliated ABVP met with University Grants Commission Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar here Saturday and demanded “common counselling” for admissions through CUET-UG.

The delegation also requested that examinations being conducted by the National Examination Agency (NTA) should only be held at “government and trusted centres”, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) said in a statement.

Nearly 14 lakh students have applied for CUET-UG this time, up by 41 per cent since last year. The CUET-UG remains the second-largest entrance exam in the country in terms of applicants. In the debut edition of the exam, 12.50 lakh students registered themselves and 9.9 lakh of them submitted their applications.

    MS Education Academy

During the meeting, the ABVP delegation led by its national general secretary Yagywalkya Shukla raised the issue of increasing financial pressure on students due to registration fees, and demanded a simplified admission process and a one-time fee for the same, the statement said.

“The ABVP has demanded that common counselling should be done under CUET like IIT and NIT. That the examinations being conducted by the National Examination Agency (NTA) should be conducted only at government and trusted centres, and the number of examination centres in the country should be increased,” it added.

In the statement, Shukla said it was necessary to ensure that the admission process was simplified and the counselling system made more convenient.

“The fee should be charged only once as per the financial convenience of the students. Along with this, every effort should be made to create transparency in the examinations. Having a common counselling process will make it easier for the students,” Shukla added.

BJP MP demands NIA probe in Sambalpur violence

    [ad_1]

Bhubaneswar: Senior BJP leader and Bargah MP Suresh Pujari Monday demanded a NIA probe into the recent violence in Sambalpur district.

The BJP leader claimed the Sambalpur violence where many people including 10 police personnel were injured during Hanuman Jayanti celebrations, may be linked to “anti-national activities”.

This came as the ruling BJD said that the state BJP has been trying to create tension in Odisha between communities,

    MS Education Academy

“Anti-national slogans were raised during the group clash in Sambalpur on April 12. It proves presence of anti-national forces here,” Pujari alleged.

He claimed that as gangster Guddu Muslim’s driver came to Bargarh district and allegedly stayed with one man identified as Raja Khan after the Praygraj shootpit incident, the communal violence which broke out here could be linked to anti-nationals.

“What is the link between Guddu Muslim and Raja Khan? Who were given shelter in Odisha? Are they in anyway linked to the Sambalpur violence?” he querried.

Stating that the Odisha unit of BJP has already apprised Union Home Minister Amit Shah on these issues, Pujari said that Odisha Police does not have the resources to conduct a detailed investigation into such incidents and the state government should hand the case over the NIA.

Earlier, the Odisha BJP had alleged that Raja Khan, a close aide of Guddu Muslim, is an associate of BJD MLA Susanta Singh, a claim which the ruling party rejected outright.

Odisha’s Industries Minister Pratap Deb alleged that BJP was attempting to create tension for the last 15 years.

“Action should be taken against those breaking the law or instigating violence irrespective of the party affiliation. Let police and law do their work,” he said.
