Air India ‘pee-gate’: Delhi court extends Shankar Mishra’s judicial custody

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Patiala House Court on Saturday extended the judicial custody of Shankar Mishra, the man accused of urinating on an elderly female co-passenger in a drunk state on board a New York-New Delhi Air India flight in November last year, by 14 days.

On January 7, the court had sent Mishra to 14-day judicial custody, which was extended till February 4 on Saturday.

Earlier, in the wake of Air India banning Mishra from flying for four months on the basis of its internal committee report, his legal counsel had opposed the findings of the panel, saying that they are ready to file an appeal.

“We respect the authority and mandate of the internal inquiry committee, but we disagree with its findings and are already in the process of challenging this decision in accordance with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation’s (DGCA) civil aviation requirements for unruly passengers,” Mishra’s lawyers had said.

Aviation regulator DGCA had also imposed a fine of Rs 30 lakh on Air India besides suspended the licence of the pilot-in-command for three months in connection with the Air India urination case.

Moreover, the regulator had imposed a penalty of Rs 3 lakh on the director of inflight services of Air India for failing to discharge her duties on November 26, 2022.

The incident of passenger misbehaviour which occurred on the AI-102 flight from New York to New Delhi came to the notice of DGCA on January 4.

After Mishra claimed that the complainant had soiled her own seat, the latter had rubbished the allegation, saying it was “completely false and concocted”.

“The said allegation is also in complete contradiction and a complete volte-face of the statements and the pleaded case of the accused in his bail application,” she had said.

The victim had said that her intention has all along been to ensure that institutional changes are made so that no individual has to go through the “horrendous experience” she went through.

“Instead of being remorseful for the utterly disgusting act committed by him, he has adopted a campaign of spreading misinformation and falsities with the intent of further harassing the victim,” she had said.

On January 13, Mishra told the court that he is not the accused.

“There must be someone else who peed or it must be her who urinated,” he had said.

He also claimed that the woman was suffering from some prostate-related disease.

  • DCW chief molestation case: Accused AAP member, sting done to defame Delhi Police, claims BJP

DCW chief molestation case: Accused AAP member, sting done to defame Delhi Police, claims BJP

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The BJP on Friday raised questions over DCW chief Swati Maliwal’s molestation claims, alleging that the person she accused is an AAP member and her “drama” was part of a conspiracy which has now been “exposed”.

Several BJP leaders hit out at Maliwal, an Aam Aadmi Party appointee.

An immediate reaction was not available from the AAP on the issue.

Maliwal, chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women, had alleged that she was molested by a drunk man while on an inspection at night and dragged for 10-15 metres by his car outside AIIMS with her hand stuck in the vehicle’s window. The accused, a 47-year-old man, was arrested.

BJP leader Shazia Ilmi tweeted that Maliwal’s “drama” has been exposed.

“@AamAadmiParty and… did a sting to defame Delhi and its police and serious questions arise on its credibility. Is cheap politics legitimate on the serious issue of women safety? she asked.

Former DCW chief Barkha Shukla Singh said by indulging in such drama, Maliwal should not weaken women.

Delhi BJP working president Virendra Sachdeva said Harish Chandra Suryavanshi, who was accused of harassing Maliwal, is actually a prominent activist of the Aam Aadmi Party in Sangam Vihar.

Sachdeva released a photo in which the accused is seen campaigning with AAP MLA Prakash Jarwal.

Sachdeva said with the revelation of the photo and Suryavanshi’s background, “it has become clear that the incident was a conspiracy of AAP to defame Delhi internationally by showing the city as an unsafe city for women”.

    [ad_1]

Amid the ongoing row over the teachers’ training program in Finland between the Lt-Governor and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia has alleged that L-G VK Saxena is “trying to stop the file” again. AAP leaders held a protest outside the L-G House over the matter.

The L-G House termed the allegations as “motivated” and “misleading” and asked CM Arvind Kejriwal to show Delhi Teachers Finland on Google Maps. LG also said that by showing teachers Finland on Google Maps and then conducting online session with Finland teachers, Delhi Govt can save over 120 Crores which it can utilise in giving ads across the country.

Social media users extended their support to LG, saying the same Kejriwal had asked Vivek Agnihotri to upload The Kashmir Files on youtube, the same way Delhi teachers can visit Finland through google maps saving crores of taxpayers’ money.
