New Delhi: A 30-year-old woman suffered a miscarriage after she was shot at by her neighbour in northwest Delhi’s Siraspur on Monday when she objected to loud music being played by a DJ during a function at his house, police said.

Harish, who fired at the pregnant woman, and his friend Amit, whose gun was used in the commission of the crime, have been arrested, they said.

The condition of the woman is stated to be critical.

At around 12:15 am, a PCR call was received regarding a firing incident in Siraspur, a senior police officer said.

After reaching the spot, it was found that a woman, Ranju, a resident of Siraspur, was admitted to Max Hospital in Shalimar Bagh. Doctors at the hospital told police that she had sustained a gunshot injury in her neck and was unfit for giving a statement, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer north) Ravi Kumar Singh.

Later, the statement of an eyewitness, the victim’s sister-in-law, was recorded.

Thereafter, Harish took a gun from his friend Amit and opened fire. A bullet hit Ranju, the eyewitness told police.

Harish and Amit have been arrested. A case under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 27 of the Arms Act has been registered against them, the police said.

EAM Jaishankar receives Bhutan’s King at Delhi airport

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck on Monday began his two-day trip to India with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar receiving him at the airport here, reflecting the importance New Delhi has attached to the visit.

The King will hold talks with President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday.

In a tweet, Jaishankar said the visit by King Wangchuck will further strengthen the close and unique India-Bhutan partnership.

“Honoured to welcome His Majesty the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, on his arrival in India. His visit will further strengthen the close and unique India-Bhutan partnership,” he said.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also welcomed the visiting dignitary.

“Warm welcome to India, Your Majesty! His Majesty the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck arrived in India a short while ago. His Majesty was received by EAM @DrSJaishankar at the airport,” MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted.

Jaishankar is scheduled to call on the King this evening.

Bhutan is a strategically important country for India and the defence and security ties between the two sides have witnessed significant expansion in the last few years.

The strategic ties witnessed an upward trajectory in the last few years in the backdrop of a 73-day face-off between Indian and Chinese troops in Doklam tri-junction in 2017.

The Doklam plateau is considered an important area for India’s strategic interest.

The standoff at Doklam tri-junction in 2017 began after China tried to extend a road in an area that Bhutan claimed belonged to it.

India had strongly opposed the construction as it would have impacted its overall security interests. The India-China face-off was resolved following several rounds of talks.

In October 2021, Bhutan and China signed an agreement on a “three-step roadmap” to expedite negotiations to resolve their festering boundary dispute.

Bhutan shares an over 400-km-long border with China and the two countries have held over 24 rounds of boundary talks in a bid to resolve the dispute.

The King of Bhutan had a transit visit to Delhi in September last year.

India sent special assistance to Bhutan during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the first country to receive Covishield vaccines from India.

India has been providing assistance to Bhutan for implementation of its successive ‘Five Year Plans’ since 1961.

India’s assistance towards Bhutan’s XII five-year-plan (2018-23) was Rs 4,500 crore for various multi-sectoral projects, small development projects and direct budgetary support.

There has been significant cooperation between the two sides in the area of hydro-power projects.

India has consistently been Bhutan’s top trading partner, and remains the leading source of investments in Bhutan.

In November 2021, India formalised the opening of seven new trade routes for Bhutan’s bilateral and transit trade with India, new market access was provided for allowing formal export of 12 agri-products from Bhutan to India.

‘Sisodia is mastermind of Delhi excise policy scam’, says BJP leader

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday slammed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over the excise policy case and said that former deputy CM Manish Sisodia was the “mastermind of the alleged scam”.

Addressing a press conference here, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said, “Why did the court refuse to give relief to Manish Sisodia, the accused in the liquor scam? Manish Sisodia and company have received a bribe of Rs 100 crore and this has been verified through the court.”

“The court said that while reviewing the evidence presented, it can be said that Manish Sisodia is not honest but the mastermind of this corruption policy,” Poonawalla added.

    MS Education Academy

On Friday, a Delhi court, while dismissing the bail plea of Sisodia in the excise policy case lodged by the CBI, said prima facie the AAP leader “is the architect of the criminal conspiracy in the matter”.

Special Judge M.K. Nagpal said Sisodia’s release may adversely impact the ongoing investigation and “seriously hamper” its progress.

Four men have been charged by the Delhi Court on Saturday for rioting, and setting a mosque ablaze during the 2020 north East Delhi riots.

The accused – Ankit Sourabh Sharma, Rahul Kumar and Sachin – were identified on the basis of CCTV cameras present on the riot site.

According to the FIR lodged at Karawal Nagar police station, the complainant Mohammed Imran had alleged that the four were part of a mob that set fire to the Allah Wali mosque situated in Shahid Bhagat Singh Colony. Delhi: Man blackmails friend for money, arrested

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: A person was arrested for blackmailing his friend to pay Rs 4 lakh, the Delhi Police informed on Saturday.

As per the police, the accused hatched a conspiracy to lure the victim into removing his clothes and then record the video to blackmail him for money.

“Police arrested an accused for sextortion of Rs 4 lakhs from a victim. The victim was receiving objectionable video calls from a number that lured him to remove clothes, which was later recorded and used for blackmailing him by his friend,” the Delhi Police said in a statement.

    MS Education Academy

The complaint named Bablu (28 years) had alleged that he received a message on WhatsApp from a number who disclosed her identity as ‘Ankita Sharma’.

“She started vulgar chatting with the complainant and also made a video recording of the same. She asked the complainant to get nude saying that she too is also nude on the other side. However, when the complainant took off his clothes, the call got disconnected. He then received a video recording of him without clothes. The accused threatened him of making his obscene video viral and demanded money from him. The victim paid Rs 4 lakh,” the complaint stated.

Subsequently, a case vide FIR No 30/2023 was registered dated March 29 at Cyber North Police Station and an investigation was taken up.

His complaint was later forwarded by MHA Cyber Crime Reporting Portal to Cyber Police Station, the police said.

A dedicated team was handed over the task to identify accused persons and arrest the culprits, after which a detailed technical analysis of Call Detail Records and Money Trail was carried out. Details obtained from UPI IDs and concerned beneficiary banks were also analysed.

The victim was arrested by the police. He was identified as Shivam Kumar, who also happened to be a close friend of the victim.

On sustained interrogation, the accused revealed that he came in contact with the victim Bablu, as they stayed in the same locality after which they became close friends.

Bablu told the accused that he was chatting with a girl on WhatsApp who asked for nude video of him and is now blackmailing him for money. He initially asked Bablu to ignore her messages, but later out of greed, decided to himself pretend as a fraudster.

He brought a new SIM card and started blackmailing the victim using the new number. After that, pretending to help the victim in transferring the money, he took Rs 4 lakh from him.

The accused also told the police that he has already spent all the money on luxury items.

Further investigation is underway in the case.

  • Authorities conduct ‘encroachment removal’ action at site of old ‘dargah’ in south Delhi

Authorities conduct ‘encroachment removal’ action at site of old ‘dargah’ in south Delhi

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Authorities conducted an “encroachment removal” action at the site of an old ‘dargah’ located beside a prominent street near the shrine of Hazrat Nizamuddin in south Delhi on Saturday amid heavy security deployment, police said.

The dargah of Syed Abdullah urf Bhure Shah, located on a plot near the Sabz Burj — a 16th-century double-domed Mughal-era monument, is “centuries-old” and the saint is revered by people from both Muslim and Hindu communities, said Yusuf Beg, caretaker of the dargah.

A posse of police and paramilitary personnel were deployed when the action was carried out by the authorities at the site facing the busy Zakir Husain Marg.

    MS Education Academy

Beg said that they themselves removed the canopy and steel barriers placed next to the graves to prevent any damage.

“A drive to remove encroachment on the pavement was carried out by the PWD. Adequate security personnel deployment was made,” a senior police officer said.

As the dargah is located in the sensitive Nizamuddin area, paramilitary personnel were also on standby and one of them carried a tear gas shell box as well.

“We have been told to ensure law and order is maintained,” a paramilitary personnel on duty said.

The officials of the Delhi PWD could not be immediately reached for comments.

Beg and his son wept in a corner as a bulldozer removed the extracted canopy and later dug out the flooring made around the graves, which stand very close to the street.

“There are seven graves near the roadside, including that of Baba Bhure Shah and his kin. Now, the graves have all become exposed to the elements, they have ‘chadar’ over them, and in gusty wind or rain, the graves may get affected. There are a few graves on the inner side near a tree. Both Hinds and Muslims visit this dargah, and it is located near the famous Hazrat Nizamuddin dargah,” he told PTI.

The canopy carried ‘ayats’ (verses) from the holy Quran, the dargah caretaker said.

Asked what led to the action, Beg claimed that in February they were called by the district administration authorities and told about the plan to make the pavement free of any encroachment.

“These graves are a few centuries old, and we cannot move them. We do not have documentary evidence to prove its age, so action has been taken. We had already removed some of the steel grills and other structures recently, which were near the street. And, today also, we removed the canopy and steel barriers placed next to the graves ourselves. If it had been done by a bulldozer machine, it could have damaged the graves,” Beg said.

Asked about the structures that were removed by authorities during the action, he said, “A couple of rooms were demolished, and the flooring next to graves was dug up for the pavement.”

A pile of household items, an old clock, some important documents, grain bags, donation boxes, and grillwork objects lay deposited behind two small roofless rooms left as of now. Images of the holy sites of Mecca and Medina are painted on one of its walls.

Two men were seen offering the afternoon ‘namaz’ in one of the rooms as an old tree peeped from above. An ornate lamp removed from the now demolished room lay next to them.

Picking up and patting his pet cat that strolled nervously amid the pile of items, Beg said, “We call him ‘Sheru’, and he grew up amid us. He used to roam around beneath the canopy and often sat next to Baba’s grave.”

Several onlookers, including locals stood nearby, some on the road divider on the Zakir Husain Marg, as the bulldozers swung into action. The traffic was very momentarily halted on one side, near the street facing the Sabz Burj, during the course of the action.

Delhi High Court, in an order on March 14, 2022, observed that the government concerned was “duty bound” to remove all unauthorised constructions that might exist on public land.

  • Delhi Haj committee seeks LG’s intervention over notice to vacate its rented premises

Delhi Haj committee seeks LG’s intervention over notice to vacate its rented premises

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Delhi State Haj Committee chairperson Kausar Jahan on Saturday met Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena seeking his intervention regarding a notice received by it for vacating its premises rented from the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB).

The Haj committee is controlled by the BJP.

Later, in a press conference at the Delhi BJP office, Kausar, accompanied by the party’s national spokesperson Shazia Ilmi, accused the Arvind Kejriwal government of harassing the Haj committee.

    MS Education Academy

No immediate reaction was available from the DUSIB or the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to the BJP leaders’ charges.

Kausar said the DUSIB had sent a notice to the committee asking it to vacate its premises at Haj Manjil at Turkman Gate over rent dues.

Condemning the notice during the month of Ramzan and when the Haj committee is busy with preparations for the Haj pilgrimage, Kausar urged Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for withdrawal of the vacation notice.

Ilmi said the notice by the Delhi government agency was shameful as it was a religious body looking after pilgrimage of Muslims.

Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor alleged that the DUSIB notice was an act of vendetta by the AAP government since Kausar Jahan, a BJP leader, was elected chairperson of the Haj committee.

“It is regrettable that the Kejriwal government is so callous and considers Muslims as only a vote bank and having failed to get its own party man elected as Delhi Haj Committee chairperson, it has now resorted to issuing vacation notice to the Haj committee,” Kapoor charged.

Ilmi said that the Haj committee was established in 1995 by the then chief minister of Delhi, Madan Lal Khurana, in the building located at Turkman Gate and it has been serving the Haj pilgrims for almost three decades.

She claimed that this building is a property of the DUSIB and for the last eight years when the chairperson of the Delhi State Haj Committee was a member of the Aam Aadmi Party, it did not pay the rent. The rent dues in almost a decade have accumulated to Rs 1.31 crore.

The Haj committee is a department of the Delhi government and it is astonishing that one department of the government is giving notice to another department to vacate the office building for non-payment of rent, she added.

Delhi BJP Minority Morcha president Mohammad Haroon said the way the AAP government has given a notice to the Haj committee shows that it has no respect for the Muslim community. He warned of a protest if the notice was not withdrawn by the government.
