Ghaziabad: A court here on Wednesday awarded death sentence to a man for raping and killing a nine-year-old girl last year.

Special POCSO Judge Amit Kumar Prajpati said the culprit should be hanged till death. Kapil Kashyap was held guilty by the court on Monday and the court had reserved its decision for Wednesday, Special Public Prosecutor Sanjiv Bakharwa said.

On August 18 last year, two sisters, aged nine and six, were lured by Kashyap who promised to give them ice creams. He took them on his bicycle to a sugarcane field, and tried to rape both the girls.

The six-year-old tried to save herself but Kashyap slapped her and she became unconscious. He thought she had died, Bakharwa said. He added that Kashyap raped the nine-year-old and then strangled her to death.

Initially, based on their father’s complaint, a kidnapping case was registered. During investigation, murder and rape sections of the Indian Penal Code were added along with provisions of the The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, he said.

  • Farmhouse owner’s wife alleges husband’s role in Satish Kaushik’s death

Farmhouse owner’s wife alleges husband’s role in Satish Kaushik’s death

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: In connection with the veteran actor Satish Kaushik’s death, the owner of the farmhouse Vikas Malu’s second wife has levelled serious accusations against her husband, claiming his role in the death of the actor.

Vikas Malu’s second wife has also complained to the police in the matter, after which the Delhi Police has initiated an inquiry into the allegations.

Delhi Police told ANI in a statement, “In actor Satish Kaushik’s death case, an inquiry has been initiated into allegations of foul play levelled by a woman (wife of one Vikas Malu). An inspector-level officer from the South West district has been asked to probe the entire matter. The woman will be called by police to record her statement.”

Talking to ANI, Vikas Malu’s wife said, “I have got a complaint registered in connection with Satish Ji’s death. He had come to my husband’s farmhouse for a party, where his health deteriorated. Some objectionable medicines have also been found from the farmhouse.”

She alleged that Satish Kaushik and Vikas Malu had business links and there was a monetary dispute between the two.

“Satish Ji and my husband had business connections as well. In August 2022, an argument broke out between Satish Ji and my husband, where Satish ji demanded Rs 15 crores that he had earlier given to him. But, my husband said that he will give the money in India.”

She further alleged, “When I later asked from him about the money, my husband said that he borrowed the money from Satish ji, but the money went for loss during the Covid period. My husband was not in the mood to return the money, he even said that he will use blue pills and Russian girls to do away with Satish Kaushik. That’s why I have brought this angle to the police for fair investigation”.

On being asked about her earlier complaints against Vikas Malu, she alleged that Vikas as well as his son “raped” her after which she left his house.

“I have earlier registered a complaint against Vikas Malu. Firstly, Vikas raped me, and then forcefully got married to me. After marriage, even his son started raping me. This was completely unbearable for me, and I left his house in October 2022,” she said.

It is pertinent to note that the minor son of Vikas Malu’s first wife had also lodged an FIR against Vikas Malu’s second wife under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act. The video is also with the police, the police said.

After receiving complaints from both sides, the police registered FIRs against both parties but did not arrest them.

Vikas Malu’s second wife further alleged that her husband has connections to the underworld including the likes of Dawood Ibrahim.

“I have images of several people who used to visit our house regularly. Vikas himself told me that Anas, who used to come to our house, is Dawood Ibrahim’s son. Mustafa, another person who regularly came to our house, is also Dawood Ibrahim’s right-hand man,” she further added.

The matter pertains to the death of veteran actor, Satish Kaushik who died on March 9 allegedly due to cardiac arrest

Satish Kaushik celebrated Holi with his friends, and danced, after which he went to sleep at around 9:30 pm and at around 12 am his health deteriorated. He called the manager and told him that he was having difficulty in breathing. His manager took him to Fortis Hospital in Gurugram where he died at 1.43 am despite being given Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

The Delhi Police said that it is examining seven hours of CCTV footage at the farmhouse in Delhi where the actor celebrated Holi.

The police also said that the detailed post-mortem report of Kaushik confirms that the death was a “natural” one and occurred due to ‘cardiac arrest’.

According to the post-mortem report, the cause of death was cardiac arrest due to coronary artery blockage which is associated with coronary artery diseases. Death appears to be natural in manner. The viscera have been preserved and photography, videography has been done, the police said.

Satish Kaushik had a medical history of hypertension and sugar, the police said.

Days after the demise of the 66-year-old veteran actor, a crime team of Delhi’s South-West district police visited the farmhouse, where the deceased actor was staying, sources said on Saturday.

As per sources, the probing team recovered some ‘medicines’ from the farmhouse. The medicines have been sent for examination and the report is yet to come. Although, no banned medicine has been found, however, it is being ascertained which salts were found in the medicine.

Further investigation is underway in the case.

Mumbai: A young man and his minor girlfriend allegedly ended their lives by jumping off a hillock in a north-west suburb of Mumbai, police said here on Saturday.

The man, identified as one Akash Jhate and the 16-year-old girl studying in SSC, were neighbours in the Janupada tribal-dominated locality near Samata Nagar in Kandivali east.

While the boy worked as a housekeeper, the girl was a school student and they reportedly took the extreme step as their families were against their liaison.

The girl’s family said that when they woke up in the morning, the girl was missing from the home and they launched a frantic search for her in the vicinity, but failed to trace her.

They approached the Samata Nagar Police to lodge a missing complaint, and being a minor, the police launched investigations into a possible abduction angle.

It was only on Friday afternoon that the police were alerted of the tragedy by a local informing about two bodies found lying at the bottom of a hill there. They were rushed to the Shatabdi Hospital where the doctors declared them dead.

Though no suicide note has been recovered, subsequent police enquiries revealed that the girl claimed to have gone out with a friend, while the boy sent a message to his family saying he was leaving home and would never return.

The bodies of the deceased were sent for an autopsy and later handed over to their respective families for the last rites.

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Bollywood star Anil Kapoor remembered his ‘Mr. India’ co-actor Satish Kaushik by sharing a series of pictures with him and Anupam Kher, calling Kaushik his ‘younger brother’.

Actor-Director Kaushik passed away due to a heart attack in Gurugram late on Wednesday. He was 66. Among his many memorable roles, Kaushik is fondly remembered for playing the role of ‘Calendar’ in the 1987 film ‘Mr. India’ directed by Shekhar Kapur, in which Anil Kapoor played the titular character.

Sharing a bunch of pictures with Kaushik, Anil Kapoor wrote in the caption: “The Laurels of the industry have lost their Hardy… the Three Musketeers have lost the most talented, generous and loving Musketeer and I have lost my younger brother… gone too soon… I love you Satish.”

In the first two pictures, Anil could be seen posing with Kaushik in movie sets, while in the third and fourth pictures, all the three friends — Anil, Anupam, and Kaushik — are seen together.

In the last two pictures, Anil and Kaushik are seen posing together in a cheerful mood.

  • India suffers one stroke death every 4 minutes: Top expert MV Padma Srivastava

India suffers one stroke death every 4 minutes: Top expert MV Padma Srivastava

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Brain stroke is the second most common cause of death in India with one patient succumbing to the disease every four minutes, a top health expert flagged on Thursday.

Padma Shri awardee Dr (Prof) MV Padma Srivastava, who is the most renowned neurologist in the country and is a Professor of Neurology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, participated in the celebration of International Women’s Day event at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital today.

Delivering a keynote address at the event titled, “Stroke care and its primary preventive methods in poor resource settings in India”, Dr Srivastava said, “Stroke is the second most common cause of death in India. About 1,85,000 strokes occur every year in India with nearly one stroke every 40 seconds and one stroke death every 4 minutes.”

She further referred to the Global Burden of Diseases (GBD) and said that most incidents of stroke were recorded in the country.

“India bore most of the burden of stroke with 68.6 per cent incidence of stroke. 70.9 per cent stroke deaths and 77.7 Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) lost. These figures are alarming for India with many living in poor resource settings. Another alarming and important finding of the GBD 2010 stroke project is 5.2 million (31 per cent) strokes were in children aged less than 20 years. The stroke burden is greater in India and more so among younger and middle-aged people,” she said.

The health expert flagged the lack of necessary infrastructure to deal with the alarming data in the country.

“In spite of these alarming figures, many Indian hospitals lack the necessary infrastructure and organization required to treat stroke patients quickly and efficiently and do not deliver adequate stroke care. The stroke services across the country especially in public sector hospitals are deficient in many aspects,” Dr Srivastava said.

The Padma Shri awardee further listed the solutions to boost the infrastructure needed to tackle the rising numbers.

“One of the solutions for this deficiency in rich and poor resource settings in India is to adopt Telestroke models in poor resource settings. Implementation of Telemedicine / Telestroke facilities is an important step for bridging the economically and geographically challenged and underprivileged sections of the society,” she said.

This program also included inspirational talks by three distinguished faculty members of the hospital.

The members included Dr Jayashree Sood, Chairperson, Institute of Anesthesiology, who spoke on how to maintain the balance between work and life, especially for women, Prof Kusum Verma, Advisor Cytopathology who spoke on her experiences mitigating professional challenges and Padma Bhushan Dr Neelam Kler Chairperson of Department of Neonatology who talked about her belief in the saying ‘Never say Never’.

This program was hosted by the department of Research and chaired by Prof NK Ganguly, former director general ICMR and Chairperson department of Research, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.

The department of research at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital has a robust PhD program and a state of art equipped laboratory with a focus on basic and translational research in varied fields including neurobiology, cancer biology, stem cell biology, immunology, autoimmune and infectious diseases.
