Hyderabad: With 10 days to Eid ul Fitr, Ramzan shopping picks up

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Just ten days are left until the Eid ul Fitr festival and markets are abuzz with shoppers.

‘Shop till you drop’ is the mantra of shoppers thronging the markets of the old city. While traditional markets at Charminar, Pathergatti, Khilwat, Sultan Bazaar, Mallepally, Tolichowki, Abid Road, Nampally, Musheerabad and Secunderabad are already packed.

Switch from old city markets to new malls

The trendy youngsters prefer the malls and big establishments at Abid Road, Ameerpet, Punjagutta, Dilsukhnagar, Masab Tank, Madhapur, Jubilee Hills, Kondapur Road, A S Rao Nagar, Malkajgiri, Secunderabad Park Lane and Begumpet.

“It’s all about choice. Other than the traditional wear we buy the regular or party wear clothes at the outlets of various prominent readymade clothing brands,” said Mohd Hussain, a resident of Moghalpura, who works with an IT company.

The switch of buyers from the old city markets to newer areas of the city has not hampered the sales at the markets. “The newer generations preferred Abids, Nampally, Koti and Narayanguda until five years ago, now they prefer Jubilee Hills, Madhapur, Begumpet, Secunderabad, Banjara Hills and Punjagutta for their apparels,” said Abid Mohiuddin, secretary Old City Traders Association.

    Business in Old City

In the run-up to Eid-ul-Fitr, shops remain in business until ‘sehri’ time. Recently, the Telangana government in an order permitted shops and establishments, except bars and clubs, to remain open 24×7, provided they obtain special permissions.

After the Covid pandemic when business suffered a lot, the traders heaved a sigh as sales picked up now. “Still there is a fear in the people about Covid with fresh reports coming about new cases. It has not impacted business so far,” said Riyazuddin, a footwear dealer at Nayapul.

Shopping in old city markets is a different experience. The best part is that one can bargain at the shops and roadside stalls alike. Crockery, shoes and other footwear, skull caps, bangles, home furnishings, apparel, bridal wear, traditional costumes and other stuff are sold on the 2 km stretch between Madina Building and Charminar.

Arrangements for iftar are made all over the market by the traders for the facility of the customers and salesmen.

    [ad_1]

Riyadh: Periodic maintenance of the holy Kaaba and the perfuming of its Kiswah was carried out on Monday ahead of the last ten days of Ramzan, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The periodic maintenance process was carried out with the participation of the Presidency of the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, Sheikh Dr Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais.

Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais said that the Saudi leadership is keen to take care of the holy Kaaba because of its Islamic importance.

He added that the Presidency uses the finest types of perfumes to fragrance the Kaaba and the finest types of silk to make its Kiswah.

The last ten days of the holy month begin on Tuesday and Muslims intensify their worship during this period in search of Laylat Al-Qadr, the holiest night in the Islamic calendar.

Laylat Al-Qadr marks the night on which the Quran was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad and is believed to have occurred on one of the last ten nights of Ramzan, although the exact night is not clear.

  • New guidelines issued for Umrah pilgrims safety in last 10 days of Ramzan

New guidelines issued for Umrah pilgrims safety in last 10 days of Ramzan

    [ad_1]

Riyadh: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of the Interior has issued updated guidelines for the safety and security of pilgrims and worshippers in Makkah and Madinah during the last ten days of Ramzan, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque has strengthened its preparations and increased security, health, emergency and volunteering efforts to provide services that help pilgrims easily perform their rituals during the holy month.

    Here are the guidelines

    • Pilgrims can use public buses from King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, or buses from the car park in Makkah Al-Mukarramah to reach the Grand Mosque.
    • Pilgrims can also use taxis, as well as trains from Al Haramain Station from King Abdulaziz International Airport to Al Rusaifa Station in Makkah Al Mukarramah.
    • Pilgrims can walk if they live in the central area or next to the Grand Mosque, or they can take a private car which must be driven by non-Umrah pilgrims.
    • Non-Umrah pilgrims are allowed to stay in the parking lot located at the beginning of Makkah Al-Mukarramah. Pilgrims can use public transportation to reach the Grand Mosque.
    • The General Syndicate of Cars also provides a free public transportation service at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah to transport Umrah pilgrims to Makkah Al-Mukarramah.
    • Inside the Grand Mosque, pilgrims must abide by the instructions set by the security services.
    • The green light on the main gates means that pilgrims can enter through that gate as there is room for pilgrims to pray, but a red light indicates the entry is denied due to all sites being full.
    • Collecting donations is prohibited in the Grand Mosque, adding that pilgrims are not allowed to smoke, beg, or engage in commercial activities such as buying and selling.

  • China opposes Amit Shah’s visit days after renaming 11 places in Arunachal Pradesh

China opposes Amit Shah’s visit days after renaming 11 places in Arunachal Pradesh

    [ad_1]

Beijing: China on Monday criticised Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh, stating that it violated Chinese sovereignty over the area, a claim outrightly dismissed by India.

Home Minister Shah on Monday launched Vibrant Villages Programme’ from Kibithoo, the border village of Arunachal Pradesh and India’s easternmost place.

“Zangnan, (the Chinese name for Arunachal Pradesh) is China’s territory,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin told a media briefing here while answering a question on Shah’s visit to the area.

    MS Education Academy

“Indian officials’ activities in this area violate China’s sovereignty and (are) not conducive to peace and tranquility in the border regions. We firmly oppose it,” he said.

India last week outrightly rejected China renaming some places in Arunachal Pradesh, asserting that the state is an integral part of India and assigning “invented” names does not alter this reality.

India’s reaction came in response to Beijing announcing Chinese names for 11 more places in Arunachal Pradesh which the neighbouring country claims as Southern Tibet.

“We have seen such reports. This is not the first time China has made such an attempt. We reject this outright,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said in New Delhi.

“Arunachal Pradesh is, has been, and will always be an integral and inalienable part of India. Attempts to assign invented names will not alter this reality,” he said.

It was the third batch of standardised geographical names for Arunachal Pradesh issued by China’s civil affairs ministry.

The first batch of the standardised names of six places in Arunachal Pradesh was released in 2017 while the second batch of 15 places was issued in 2021.

China’s renaming of the places in Arunachal Pradesh came in the midst of the lingering eastern Ladakh border standoff that began in May 2020.

Following the standoff, India bolstered its overall military preparedness along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Arunachal Pradesh sector as well.

Last month, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said the situation along the LAC in eastern Ladakh remained “very fragile” and is “quite dangerous” in military assessment because of close deployments of troops of both sides in some pockets though “substantial” progress has been made in the disengagement process in many areas.

The Indian and Chinese troops are locked in a nearly three-year confrontation in certain friction points in eastern Ladakh even as the two sides completed disengagement of troops from several areas following extensive diplomatic and military talks.

India has been maintaining that its ties with China cannot be normal unless there is peace in the border areas.
