Telangana HC asks state govt to conduct Republic day event at Parade grounds

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: As a pushback to the Telangana government’s call to not celebrate Republic day at Parade grounds, the state High Court on Wednesday asked the government to adhere to the Defence ministry’s formulations for the Republic day at Parade grounds.

The state government reportedly has told Raj Bhavan that it may organise the R-Day celebration separately, breaking with tradition for the second year in a row by not holding a unified formal ceremony at Secunderabad’s Parade Ground.

In 2022, owing to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, KCR decided not to hold any Republic Day celebrations at the Parade Grounds in Secunderabad.

On Thursday, Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan said that her office did not receive any communication from the government on conducting the upcoming Republic Day event.

The rift between the Telangana Governor and the KCR government has deepened over the last two years. KCR is visibly upset about the Governor delaying the passing of 8 legislative bills in the assembly.

Soundararajan, a former Tamil Nadu BJP chief, took over as Telangana governor in 2019, but her relationship with the KCR government soured within a year. BRS leaders chastised her for acting like a ‘BJP agent,’ while the governor claimed Raj Bhavan personnel were being humiliated.

Republic Day: Over 6,000 policemen deployed in New Delhi

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Delhi Police have deployed over 6,000 police personnel in and around the New Delhi district amid adequate security arrangements for the safe conduct of the Republic Day parade, an official said on Tuesday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi, Pranav Tayal said that the police have made arrangements for around 70,000 people and the total deployment will be more than 6,000 police personnel.

Both static and mobile Quick Response Teams will remain alert to handle any untoward situation, he said,

“We have intensified the anti-terror measures in coordination with other agencies. Teams of National Security Guard will also be deployed,” the DCP said.

The city is already under a heavy security cover after intelligence agencies received inputs of a possible terror attack in the run-up to the Republic Day. Vehicles are being thoroughly checked at all the entry and exit points of Delhi.

“Delhi has always remained a target for anti-social elements. Threat perception is very high during such occasions. There are threat inputs and we have strengthened our security apparatus,” the DCP said.

The police have also installed 150 new CCTV cameras with some even having a feature of face recognition to keep an eye over the movement of every unsocial element.

This time the police have also introduced a new security feature in the entry pass of the Republic Day parade. “Every pass or ticket has a QR code. The entry will only be given when that code is scanned and the person carrying it is identified and verified,” the DCP said.

He said that no person without a pass or a ticket will be allowed to gain entry at the Kartavya Path.

The Delhi Police on Monday banned the flying of sub-conventional aerial vehicles over the national capital for security and safety reasons.

Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora issued the order, prohibiting the flying of aerial vehicles such as para-gliders, para-motors, hang-gliders, UAVs, UASs, microlight aircraft, remotely-piloted aircraft, hot air balloons, small-sized powered aircraft, quadcopters or even by para-jumping from aircraft till February 15.

India: Egyptian President to be chief guest at Republic Day parade

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday and was accorded a warm welcome. He will be the chief guest at the 74th Republic Day parade.

He is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including five ministers and senior officials for his official visit from January 24-27.

As he arrived in New Delhi, the traditional folk dance is being performed to welcome Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

It is pertinent to mention that this is the first time the President of Egypt has been invited as the chief guest on Republic Day.

Notably, India and Egypt are celebrating 75 years of establishment of diplomatic relations this year. India has also invited Egypt as a ‘guest country” during its G20 Presidency.

According to the statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs, Sisi will be accorded a ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on Wednesday.

He is scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar among others, with whom he will hold a meeting at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, as per a media advisory released by the MEA.

On the same day, the Egyptian president will lay a wreath at the Rajghat, the memorial of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. He will hold a meeting with PM Modi and discuss bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest during his stay.

The same evening, President Droupadi Murmu will host a state banquet in honour of the visiting dignitary.

On Republic Day, Sisi will witness the Republic Day Parade as the chief guest. A military contingent of the Egyptian Army will march on the Rajpath along with other contingents.

Sisi will attend the “at home” reception by President Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhawan. He will also hold a meeting with Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. He will interact with the business community in India. Sisi will return to Cairo on January 27.

“This is for the first time that the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt has been invited as Chief Guest on our Republic Day. A military contingent from Egyptian Army will also participate in the Republic Day parade,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in an official statement on Monday.

The Ministry of External Affairs stated, “The forthcoming visit of President Sisi is expected to further strengthen and deepen the time-tested partnership between India and Egypt.”

India and Egypt have “warm and friendly relations marked by civilizational, cultural and economic linkages and deep-rooted people-to-people ties”, as per the MEA statement.

The ties between the two nations are based on shared cultural values, commitment to strengthening economic growth, and cooperation in various sectors, including defence, security and convergence on regional and global issues.

  • Indians can now afford 5G smartphones at just Rs 44 a day: Samsung India

Indians can now afford 5G smartphones at just Rs 44 a day: Samsung India

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Samsung India on Tuesday said it now has more than 62 million Galaxy A series smartphone customers in India and people can now enjoy a true 5G experience at just Rs 44 a day, or Rs 1,320 a month, via attractive EMI options, as the country-wide 5G roll out gains momentum in 2023.

Aditya Babbar, Samsung India’s Senior Director of Mobile Business, told IANS that the early launch of new 5G smartphones is part of the company’s 5G-first strategy and will help the South Korean company secure 75 per cent of its smartphone business through 5G devices this year.

“We’ve come up with multiple affordability options for our consumers, including extremely low EMIs, starting as low as Rs 44 per day for newly-launched Galaxy A14 5G,” Babbar said.

Last year, Galaxy A series was India’s best-selling smartphone series.

“In fact, the Galaxy A is industry’s fastest-growth smartphone series (above 10 million units). We believe the launch of Galaxy A14 5G and A23 5G will help us start the year on a strong note,” Babbar added.

Samsung’s new Galaxy A series smartphones are made for the 5G era and come with a large 6.6-inch screen and a 5000mAh battery for seamless entertainment.

Samsung is betting big on its recently launched 5G smartphones – Galaxy A14 5G and A23 5G – to consolidate its 5G leadership in the country.

Galaxy A14 5G comes with Samsung’s new Galaxy signature design and is the company’s most affordable 5G smartphone in the A series portfolio in India, starting at an effective price of Rs 14,999.

Galaxy A23 5G, which comes with a 50MP camera with OIS, starts at an effective price of Rs 20,999.

According to Babbar, to democratise 5G technology in India, “we are not only reaching out to more customers by leveraging our distribution depth, but also providing more affordability options to customers”.

“We have ensured that A14 5G and A23 5G are the most widely distributed 5G smartphones in the country. We are also ensuring equal EMIs for our 4G and 5G phones,” Babbar told IANS.

Samsung said that 60 per cent of its customers use affordability platforms to buy smartphones, higher than the industry average of 40 per cent.

Nearly 80 per cent of Samsung customers who buy smartphones on credit use Samsung Finance+ platform, which the company launched in 2019.

Samsung led the India market in 5G smartphone shipments last year.

  • Karnataka govt to pay Rs 59.9L per day to legal team for border row case

Karnataka govt to pay Rs 59.9L per day to legal team for border row case

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has fixed a professional fee of Rs 59.9 lakh a day for the team of senior lawyers, including Mukul Rohatgi to fight the case pertaining to border row with Maharashtra in Supreme Court.

A Law department order said it has fixed the terms and conditions and professional fee to the legal team to represent Karnataka before the Supreme Court in an original suit (number 4/2004) filed by the government of Maharashtra against Karnataka on the border dispute.

As per the January 18 order, senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi will be paid Rs 22 lakh per day for appearing before the apex court and Rs 5.5 lakh per day for conference and other works.

Another lawyer Shyam Divan will be paid Rs six lakh a day for appearing before the court, Rs 1.5 lakh per day for preparation of the case and other works and Rs 10 lakh for outstation visits per day. The government will bear the expenses on hotel facilities and business class air travel.

The Advocate General of Karnataka will be paid Rs three lakh a day for appearing in the SC, Rs 1.25 lakh per day for preparing cases and other works, Rs two lakh on outstation visits apart from bearing the hotel and business class air travel expenditures.

The state government has also hired senior lawyer Uday Holla, a former advocate general of Karnataka, who will be paid Rs two lakh per day for appearing in the apex court, Rs 75,000 per day for preparation of the case, Rs 1.5 lakh per day for settlement of pleadings and other works, and Rs 1.5 lakh per day for outstation visits apart from hotel and travel expenses.

The boundary row had intensified late last year, with vehicles from either side being targeted, leaders from both the States weighing in, and pro-Kannada and Marathi activists being detained by police amid a tense atmosphere in Belagavi.

The border issue dates back to 1957 after the reorganisation of States on linguistic lines. Maharashtra laid claim to Belagavi, which was part of the erstwhile Bombay Presidency, as it has a sizeable Marathi-speaking population. It also laid claim to over 800 Marathi-speaking villages which are currently part of Karnataka.

Karnataka maintains the demarcation done on linguistic lines as per the States Reorganisation Act and the 1967 Mahajan Commission Report as final.

And, as an assertion that Belagavi is an integral part of the State, Karnataka has built the ‘Suvarna Vidhana Soudha’, modelled on the ‘Vidhana Soudha’ here.

Conman case: Delhi court exempts Jacqueline from personal appearance for one day

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Monday granted one-day exemption from personal appearance to actor Jacqueline Fernandez in a Rs 200 money laundering case involving alleged conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar.

Additional Sessions Judge, Patiala House courts, Shailender Malik was supposed to hear the arguments on framing charges in the matter, but has adjourned this matter for February 15.

The court on January 16 issued notice to Enforcement Directorate (ED) seeking the agency to respond to an application moved to court by Jacqueline seeking permission to fly to Dubai post January 27 for professional work.

As she had made a request for urgent hearing, the court had, hence, listed the matter for next hearing on January 25.

Jacqueline, even in December last year, had moved a plea seeking to travel abroad to visit her ill mother in Bahrain. Howbeit, she withdrew it as the court wasn’t willing to allow her to travel abroad.

Chandrashekhar is accused of extorting money from politicians, celebrities and businessmen, and allegedly duped pharma company Ranbaxy’s former owner Shivinder Mohan Singh’s wife Aditi Singh of Rs 200 crore.

Chandrashekhar has allegedly sent super expensive gifts to Jacqueline, while he also booked a chartered flight for her from Mumbai to Chennai during his bail period.

Moreover, according to ED, it is suspected that alleged conman had sent huge chunks of money extorted from Singh to the actor.

  • Haryana’s Republic Day tableau to depict Lord Krishna’s ‘Virat Swaroop’ form

Haryana’s Republic Day tableau to depict Lord Krishna’s ‘Virat Swaroop’ form

    [ad_1]

Chandigarh: International Gita Mahotsav is the theme of Haryana’s tableau for this year’s Republic Day parade on Kartavya Path and will depict a large “Virat Swaroop” statue of Lord Krishna as described in the Bhagavad Gita, an official said Sunday.

Amit Agrawal, the additional principal secretary to the chief minister, said the tableau will give the message of the Bhagavad Gita and will also meticulously showcase various scenes of the Mahabharata war.

Asserting that Kurukshetra, where according to scriptures the Mahabharata war was fought, is a renowned seat of culture and civilization, he said, “Here, on the banks of the sacred Saraswati river the Vedas and Puranas were composed and compiled.”

“About 5,159 years ago, on the first day of the Mahabharata war, the eternal message of the Bhagavad Gita was delivered,” Agrawal was quoted as saying in an official statement.

The International Gita Mahotsav is held in Kurukshetra every year. Agrawal said it aims to spread the inspirational message of the Bhagavad Gita and enlighten the world with the message of peace, harmony and universal brotherhood.

In 2018, the Haryana Government decided to start celebrating International Gita Mahotsav in other countries too. The next year, for the first time, the festival was organized in Mauritius and London. In 2022, the festival was also celebrated in Canada.

Last year, Haryana’s tableau at the Republic Day parade was themed on the achievements of the sportspersons hailing from the state.
