Mumbai: Members of popular American former boy band ‘Backstreet Boys’, who are all set to start the India leg of its DNA world tour, were greeted by the staff of a Mumbai hotel with a dance on their all-time hit number, ‘Larger Than Life’.

The band, which has been dishing out hits and setting records since 1993, has been making the wrong kind of news lately because of the sexual assault charges against Carter.

Carter and AJ McLean, another leading voice of the pop group, were greeted by a swarm of paparazzis waiting to catch a glimpse of the musicians at the airport. The band members were visibly taken by surprise at the reception they got and started recording every moment of their arrival.

The group, which was formed in 1993, is in India country for its DNA World Tour 2023. The band will first perform in Mumbai on May 4 after which it will be setting the tone right for the music lovers in Delhi on May 5 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

The group rose to fame with its debut album ‘Backstreet Boys’ in 1996. They released their second international album ‘Backstreet’s Back’ in 1997 and rose to superstardom with their third studio album ‘Millennium’, anchored by the worldwide hit ‘I Want It That Way’.

The band has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making it the best-selling boy band of all time, and one of the world’s top-selling music performers.

The band holds the record for being the first group since Led Zeppelin to have its first 10 albums reach the top 10 on the Billboard 200, and the only boy band to do so.

Geeta Kapur talks about Sonali Bendre, Indian dance going global

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Ace choreographer Geeta Kapur, who is seen among the panel of judges with Terence Lewis and Sonali Bendre on the dance reality show, ‘India’s Best Dancer Season 3’, shared how she felt about judging the show along with Sonali whom she had previously choreographed.

Geeta also talked about the newness she is looking at in the third season and her friendship with Terence.

Talking about working with Sonali, she said: “Working with such an artist is always a humble experience. Sitting next to her is a mix of unreal and surreal because I feel like I really came to this place to sit next to her. I will say that I am always humbled to sit next to those who are so great in their own way, and I feel like I didn’t get there, but I have the opportunity to sit next to them.”

    MS Education Academy

After having judged the previous seasons of ‘India’s Best Dancer’, she was asked what new she is looking at the contestants in this season.

She said: “I think many dancers get lost in just learning art or dance forms and lose their personality somewhere in between when we watch our Bollywood movies and look at ionic characters like Madhuri Dixit or SRK. That’s why I want to see a dancer who also brings out his unique personality through the dance form.”

Speaking about judging the show with Terence again and her friendship with him, she said: “The equation is different because we are friends, we grew out of two random people who came from two different places and are now very close. We did so many shows together and also created a nice bond. We try to create a nice bond in the meeting and I like to sit in the panel and love pulling his leg. He doesn’t mind me joking with him.”

When it comes to the global dance scene, how do you map Indian dance styles?

She replied: “I am happy to say that we are now on the world map because people welcome us, our artistes and our dance form. And we are really happy to see our culture projected all over the world.”

  • Will IPL 2023 be the last dance of CSK’s ‘Thalapathi’ MS Dhoni?

Will IPL 2023 be the last dance of CSK’s ‘Thalapathi’ MS Dhoni?

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: When the 16th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) gets underway from March 31, talismanic Chennai Super King skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be the only captain to lead the same side ever since the inaugural edition of the cash-rich league in 2008.

In his 16-year long journey at IPL, Dhoni has seen it all — winning multiple titles, getting banned for two years in between, handing over captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja before taking it back again — at CSK. But, as nothing lasts forever, this IPL season could be his last as a player with four-time champions CSK.

Though there has not been any official statement on this count either from the CSK management or Dhoni, there are some obvious hints at his retirement from IPL.

Handing over captaincy to Jadeja last year was a big indication that the former India captain is looking for his successor at the Chennai-based franchise. Though the move failed as the star all-rounder couldn’t handle the pressure well, it was clear that Dhoni wants to groom someone for the leadership role.

As far as his fitness is concerned, Dhoni is still one of the fittest Indian cricketers and can even give young players a run for their money. His tactical acumen is still by far the best in comparison to other skippers in IPL. However, the only concern about Dhoni is that he doesn’t play any other form of competitive cricket except IPL, so his match preparedness, which helps in taking the right decision at the right time, can be a factor.

As of now, 41-year old Dhoni, who has led CSK to four IPL titles, will captain the franchise in the upcoming season as they open their campaign against defending champions Gujarat Titans in the opening match in Ahmedabad on March 31. But it will be interesting to see whether there will be any twist in the tale in terms of captaincy as was the case last year.

It has been learnt that the Chepauk stadium in Chennai is gearing up for ‘Thala’s’ farewell match. The game against Kolkata Knight Riders on May 14 will be CSK’s last home game of IPL 2023, so it might be Dhoni’s last game for the franchise if they don’t qualify for the playoffs.

Notably, Dhoni in November 2021 had confirmed that his last T20 game will be in Chennai, but whether it will be next year or in five years’ time, he doesn’t know.

“I have always planned my cricket. My last home game in ODI was at my hometown in Ranchi. So, hopefully, my last T20 will be in Chennai. Whether it’s next year or in five years’ time, I don’t really know,” Dhoni had said at that time.

Since then, TV commentators have asked him multiple times about his retirement plans, but Dhoni has always kept his options open.

The World Cup-winning captain rarely interacts with the media. He is not that active on social media either. So it’s quite difficult to predict what will be his next move.

But if indeed Dhoni decides to hang his boots from the cash-rich league after this season, it will be an emotional occasion for the CSK fans. He might be associated with the franchise in some role in future, but that feeling will be missing for sure.
