Damascus: Syrian air defences on Friday most of the Israeli missile strike that targeted military sites in Damascus.

Local media said the forces shot down most of the missiles in the sky over Damascus and its vicinity, reports Xinhua news agency.

The Israeli forces carried out their attack from the Golan Heights, targeting military sites in the countryside of Damascus, the Syrian army said in a statement, adding that no casualty was reported.

Xinhua reporters heard several explosions in Damascus amid the attack and the air defence responses.

The attack is the second in 24 hours.

After midnight Thursday, Israel launched a missile strike, injuring two soldiers and leaving damage.

Israel has carried out hundreds of air attacks against targets inside government-controlled parts of Syria in recent years, including two missile strikes this month on Aleppo International Airport.

This was the third attack by Israeli forces on the air transport facility in six months.

Israel claims the strikes are aimed at bases of Iran-allied armed groups such as Lebanon’s Hezbollah.

Israel says such operations are aimed at preventing Iranian weapons from reaching armed groups in Syria that are backed by Iran.

Nearly half a million people have been killed in Syria’s civil war, and around half of the country’s pre-war population has been forced from their homes.

Damascus: Two soldiers were wounded in an Israeli missile attack near the Syrian capital Damascus on early Thursday morning.

“At around 1.20am, the Israeli enemy carried out an aerial aggression from the direction of the occupied Golan Heights targeting several positions in the vicinity of Damascus,” Syrian News Agency (SANA) reported.

“The attack wounded two soldiers and caused some material losses,” it said.

Syrian air defence intercepted several missiles.

According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), explosions were heard early Thursday morning in the Syrian capital.

On March 7, a similar bombing put the airport out of service for days and killed three people, including a Syrian officer.

During the past years, Israel launched hundreds of air strikes in Syria, which targeted sites of the Syrian army, Iranian and Lebanese Hezbollah targets, including weapons and ammunition depots in separate areas.

Syria has been witnessing a bloody conflict since 2011, which has killed about half a million people, caused massive damage to infrastructure, and led to the displacement of millions of people inside and outside the country.

  • 5 people killed, 15 injured in Israeli air strikes on Damascus

5 people killed, 15 injured in Israeli air strikes on Damascus

    [ad_1]

Damascus: At least 5 people were killed and 15 were injured after Israel launched air strikes on Syria’s capital Damascus’ residential building, SANA, the Syrian news agency reported.

According to the Syrian news agency, the raids occurred on early Sunday when the Israeli jet hit a building in central Damascus’s Kafr Sousa neighbourhood near a large, heavily guarded security complex close to Iranian installations, witnesses said.

After the incident, the quake-affected country’s Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said that Syria expect that United Nations Security Council would condemn the Israeli aggression.

“Syria expects the United Nations Secretariat and Security Council to condemn Israeli aggression and crimes, take the necessary measures to deter them, hold them accountable, punish their perpetrators and ensure they do not recur,” the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said on Sunday.

The Ministry said, in a statement, that at the time when Syria was trying to heal its wounds, bury its martyrs, and receive condolences, sympathy and international humanitarian support in facing the devastating earthquake, the Israeli entity launched an air aggression today targeting the civilian-populated residential neighbourhoods in Damascus, reported SANA.

On February 6, a 7.8 magnitude quake hit Turkey and Syria leading to the death of over 5,800 people. The toll death toll from Turkey and Syria crossed 46,000, Al Jazeera reported.

The ministry added, “The aggression comes in the context of the systematic Israeli attacks against the Syrian civilian targets, including homes, service centres, airports, and ports, intimidating the Syrians who are still suffering from the catastrophic effects left by the earthquake and working to support those affected by it.”

The ministry noted that the hostile action also coincides with the attacks carried out by Daesh (ISIS) terrorist organization, claiming the lives of dozens of innocent civilians in the eastern countryside of Homs province.

The ministry stressed that “the continuation of these brutal attacks and crimes against the Palestinian and Syrian people constitutes an explicit threat to peace and security in the region and requires urgent international action to stop the Israeli aggressive actions on Syrian territory, according to SANA.

Iran condemns Israeli missile attack on Damascus

Tehran: The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani has condemned an Israeli missile attack earlier in the day on Syria’s capital Damascus.

In a statement published on the Ministry’s website, Kanaani on Sunday said the continuation of the attacks by Israel proves that it seeks to aggravate the Syrian people’s pain and suffering, who are still grappling with the consequences of the deadly and destructive quakes.

He slammed the “shameful” silence of Western states in the face of Israel’s frequent “violations of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” calling on the international community as well as responsible bodies, especially the UN Security Council, to react “immediately, seriously and effectively” to Israeli “aggression” against a UN member state.

At least five people, including a soldier, were killed and 15 others wounded early Sunday by an Israeli missile attack on Damascus, the Syrian army said in a statement.

There has been no comment from the Israeli authorities on the attack, Xinhua news agency reported.

Launched from the occupied Golan Heights, the attack targeted several military sites in Damascus, including the residential neighbourhood of Kafar Sousah, said the Army statement.

It added that many of the wounded are in critical condition, and many residential homes in Damascus and its countryside were damaged.

The fresh attack comes as Syria is still coping with the devastating earthquakes on February 6 that struck the north of the country and killed thousands.
